J'ai déjà évoqué dans un message précédent les 5 timbres de droite, émis le 16 juillet 2008, reproduisant des affiches de grands films du cinéma afro-américain des années 20 et 30.Le timbre de gauche, émis le 10 janvier 2007, rend hommage à l'immense chanteuse de jazz Ella Fitzgerald (1917-1996).
Ce timbre est le 30ème émis par l'USPS dans la série "Black Heritage". Le portrait de la chanteuse s'inspire d'une photographie de 1956.
La "First Lady of Song", célèbre pour sa tessiture de voix aux 3 octaves et sa capacité d'improvisation, remportera de nombreuses récompenses, dont 13 Grammy Awards.
Parmi ses plus grands succès, on peut citer "Mack the Knife", "Flying Home", "How High the Moon" ou "A Tisket, a Tasket" qui la fera connaître.
La poste française avait déjà honoré Ella Fitzgerald en 2002 dans une série de 6 timbres consacrés à des étoiles du jazz françaises et américaines.

The left stamp, issued on January 10 2007, paid tribute to the great jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald (1917-1996).
