Koloman Moser on stamp in Austria

Le 31 octobre 2008, la poste autrichienne a émis un timbre en l'honneur de Koloman ("Kolo") Moser (1868-1918), peintre et designer autrichien, figure emblématique de l'Art nouveau à Vienne.
Je ne sais pas si ce timbre commémore les 140 ans de la naissance de l'artiste ou les 90 ans de sa mort ? sans doute les deux !

Une photographie de 1905 le représente à gauche sur cette enveloppe. La jolie oblitération "1er jour" de Vienne reproduit son profil également présent sur le timbre. S'agit-il d'un autoportrait ?
On October 31 2008, the Austrian Post issued a stamp in honor of Koloman ("Kolo") Moser (1868-1918), Austrian painter and designer, an emblematic figure of "Art Nouveau" in Vienna.
I don't know if this stamp is commemorating the 140th anniversary of the birth of the artist or the 90 years of his death ? probably both !

A photograph of 1905 represents him on the left on this cover. The nice FDC cancellation from Vienna reproduces the artist's profile also present on the stamp. Is it a self-portrait ?

"Kolo" sera l'un des fondateurs en 1897 de la Sécession viennoise, un courant de l'Art nouveau en Autriche et en 1903 de la Wiener Werkstätte (atelier viennois), réunissant des architectes, artistes et designers ayant pour but de réaliser des oeuvres artistiques accessibles à tous. Cet atelier fut fondé avec l'architecte autrichien Josef Hoffmann, dont l'oeuvre principale est le palais Stoclet à Bruxelles, pour lequel Koloman Moser a réalisé des meubles et des objets décoratifs.
A noter que ce palais avait fait l'objet d'une émission commune en 2007 entre la Belgique et la république tchèque, pays natal de Hoffmann. L'Autriche aurait pu en faire partie...
Koloman exerça son art dans différents domaines : arts graphiques, mode, vitraux, céramiques, vaisselles, bijouterie, mobilier...
Pour l'anecdote, Koloman Moser réalisa en 1908 une série de timbres consacrés aux 60 ans de règne de l'empereur François-Joseph !
Enfin, la poste autrichienne avait déjà émis en 1968 un timbre consacré à Moser pour commémorer les 50 ans de sa mort. Curieusement, ce timbre reproduisait déjà un portrait de l'artiste plutôt qu'une de ses oeuvres...
"Kolo" will be one of the founders in 1897 of the Vienna Secession, an "Art Nouveau" trend in Austria and in 1903 of the Wiener Werkstätte (Vienna Workshop), bringing together architects, artists and designers aimed to design art accessible to evryone. This workshop was founded with the Austrian architect Josef Hoffmann, whose main work is the Stoclet Palace in Brussels, in which Koloman Moser has made furniture and decorative objects.
Note that this Palace was the subject of a joint issue in 2007 between Belgium and Czech Republic, homeland of Hoffmann. Austria could have been part of it...
Koloman practiced his art in different areas : graphic arts, fashion, stained glass windows, ceramics, tableware, jewelry, furniture...
For the anecdote, Koloman Moser designed in 1908 a series of stamps devoted to the 60-year reign of Emperor Franz Joseph !
Finally, the Austrian Post had already issued a stamp in 1968 dedicated to Moser to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death. Curiously, this stamp already reproduced a portrait of the artist rather than one of his works...
