Le 9 novembre 2017 (vente générale le 13 novembre 2017), la poste de Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon a mis en circulation un bloc-feuillet (2 timbres) en hommage au célèbre navigateur Eric Tabarly (1931-1998), également officier de la marine nationale, ayant marqué l'histoire de la voile à travers ses nombreuses victoires en courses au large et sa contribution au développement des activités nautiques en France.
Ce bloc-feuillet célèbre également le 30ème anniversaire de l'inauguration du centre de voile André Paturel, le 17 mai 1987, en présence d'Eric Tabarly.
C'est ce bloc-feuillet qui figure sur le FDC ci-dessous avec le TAD spécial émis à l'occasion du 71ème Salon Philatélique d'Automne à Paris.
On November 9, 2017 (general sale on November 13, 2017), the Post of Saint-Pierre & Miquelon issued a souvenir sheet (2 stamps) paying tribute to the famous French yachtsman Eric Tabarly (1931-1998), also an officer of the national navy, having marked the history of sailing through his many victories in offshore races and his contribution to the development of nautical activities in France.
This souvenir sheet also celebrates the 30th anniversary of the inauguration of the André Paturel sailing center on May 17, 1987, in the presence of Eric Tabarly.
It is this souvenir sheet that appears on the FDC below with the special postmark issued on the occasion of the 71st "Salon Philatélique d'Automne" in Paris.
Ce bloc-feuillet (tirage : 40000), conçu par Patrick Derible (qui a signé en bas à gauche sur l'enveloppe), se compose d'un portrait du navigateur gravé par Pierre Albuisson (2€) et d'une représentation de ce centre de voile André Paturel à Saint-Pierre (1€), situé quai Eric Tabarly.
Le fond de ce bloc représente une carte maritime avec l'archipel de Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon en haut à gauche et une évocation d'un des bateaux d'Eric Tabarly (Pen Duick) en bas à gauche.
Le texte à droite mentionne également qu'Eric Tabarly était citoyen d'honneur de la ville de Saint-Pierre et qu'il a fait 3 escales dans l'archipel lors des courses à la voile "Bermudes-Copenhague" en 1966, "Plymouth-Newport" en 1976 et "Lorient - Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon - Lorient" en 1987.
This souvenir sheet (print run: 40,000), designed by Patrick Derible (who signed at the bottom left on the envelope), consists of a portrait of the sailor engraved by Pierre Albuisson (€ 2.00) and a representation of this André Paturel sailing center in Saint-Pierre (€ 1.00).
The background of this sheet is featuring a maritime map with the archipelago of Saint-Pierre & Miquelon in the top left and an evocation of one of Eric Tabarly's ships (Pen Duick) in the lower left.
The text on the right also mentions that Eric Tabarly was honorary citizen of the city of Saint-Pierre and that he made 3 stops in the archipelago during the sailing races "Bermuda-Copenhagen" in 1966, "Plymouth-Newport" in 1976 and "Lorient - Saint-Pierre & Miquelon - Lorient" in 1987.
