Le 27 août 2019, l'Institut Postal Dominicain (Instituto Postal Dominicano - Inposdom) a mis en circulation un timbre consacré au 150ème anniversaire de la naissance du Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948).
Ce timbre (RD $ 100.00, tirage : 20000), conçu par Alejandro Vignieri, a été dévoilé dans la salle Eduardo La Torre du ministère dominicain des Affaires étrangères, en présence de Madhu Sethi, ambassadrice de la République de l'Inde, du ministre des Affaires étrangères, Miguel Vargas, et du directeur général de l'Inposdom, Dr. Modesto Guzmán.

On August 27, 2019, the Dominican Postal Institute (Instituto Postal Dominicano - Inposdom) put into circulation a stamp dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948).
This stamp (RD $ 100.00, print run: 20,000), designed by Alejandro Vignieri, was unveiled in the room "Eduardo La Torre" of the Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of Madhu Sethi, ambassador of the Republic of India, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miguel Vargas, and the Director General of Inposdom, Dr. Modesto Guzmán.

Ce timbre a été conçu à partir d'un des nombreux portraits de Gandhi esquissant un sourire, sur fond de drapeau indien.
Le Mahatma Gandhi, né en 1869 à Pordanbar (état du Gujarat), surnommé le "Père de la Nation" en Inde, fut un des pionniers du mouvement d'indépendance du pays, prônant la désobéissance, la non-violence et le concept du "swaraj" (autodétermination).
Le 30 janvier 1948, en chemin vers une réunion de prière, Gandhi est assassiné à New Delhi par un hindou nationaliste.
Hors Inde, il semble qu'une centaine d'administrations postales ont émis ou vont mettre en circulation cette année des timbres consacrés au 150ème anniversaire de la naissance de Gandhi, un record je pense !

Outside India, it seems that a hundred postal administrations have issued or will put into circulation this year stamps dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Gandhi, a record I think!
