"Icebreaker FS Polarstern - MOSAiC Expedition" special postmarks on covers from Germany

TADs spéciaux "Brise-glace FS Polarstern - Expédition MOSAiC" sur enveloppes d'Allemagne

En septembre 2019, le brise-glace de recherche allemand "FS Polarstern" a quitté Tromsø, en Norvège, pour passer un an à la dérive dans l'océan Arctique, piégé dans la glace, une des plus grandes expéditions polaires de l'histoire.
Le but de cette expédition scientifique baptisée MOSAiC ("Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate") était d'étudier la région Arctique en tant qu'épicentre du réchauffement climatique et d'acquérir des connaissances fondamentales qui sont essentielles pour mieux comprendre le changement climatique mondial.
Plus de 300 chercheurs de 20 pays (dont la France) ont participé à cette expédition exceptionnelle, sur les traces de l'expédition révolutionnaire de Fridtjof Nansen en 1893-1896.
Le "FS Polarstern" est ainsi resté pendant une année complète près du pôle nord, y compris pour la première fois en période d'hiver polaire. 
In September 2019, the German research icebreaker "FS Polarstern" left Tromsø, Norway, to spend a year drifting through the Arctic Ocean, trapped in ice, one of the largest polar expeditions in history. The goal of this scientific expedition called MOSAiC ("Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate") was to study the Arctic region as the epicenter of global warming and to acquire fundamental knowledge which is essential to better understand the global climate change.
More than 300 researchers from 20 countries (including France) took part in this exceptional expedition, in the footsteps of Fridtjof Nansen's revolutionary expedition in 1893-1896.
The "FS Polarstern" thus remained for a full year near the North Pole, including for the first time during the polar winter period.

 

Le 12 octobre 2020, après 389 jours d'expédition, le "FS Polarstern" ("Etoile polaire") est rentré dans son port d'attache de Bremerhaven (Land de Brême), où est situé l'Institut Alfred Wegener (AWI) pour la recherche polaire et marine, qui est propriétaire de ce navire mis en service en 1982.
A cette occasion, plusieurs documents philatéliques ont été édités, comme ces 2 lettres spéciales ci-dessus et ci-dessous. Merci beaucoup Jens !
L'enveloppe ci-dessus (tirage : 1000) a été spécialement mise en circulation le 12 octobre 2020 par la Deutsche Post pour célébrer le retour du "FS Polarstern" à Bremerhaven et le succès de l'expédition MOSAiC 2019/2020.
Cette enveloppe est affranchie avec un des 2 timbres (1,12€) d'un bloc-feuillet émis le 8 novembre 2001, consacré au 100ème anniversaire de la recherche allemande en Antarctique. Ce timbre représente ce même brise-glace de recherche "FS Polarstern".

On October 12, 2020, after 389 days of expedition, the "FS Polarstern" ("Polar Star") returned to its home port of Bremerhaven (Land of Bremen), where the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) for Polar and Marine Research, the owner of this vessel which entered service in 1982, is located.

On this occasion, several philatelic documents were edited, such as these two special covers above and below. Thank you very much Jens!

The above envelope (print run: 1,000) was specially put into circulation on October 12, 2020 by the Deutsche Post to celebrate the return of the "FS Polarstern" to Bremerhaven and the success of the MOSAiC 2019/2020 expedition.

This envelope is franked with one of the two stamps (€ 1.12) from a souvenir sheet issued on November 8, 2001, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of German research in Antarctica. This stamp depicts this same "FS Polarstern" research icebreaker.

 

Ce 12 octobre 2020, un TAD spécial été également mis en circulation à bord du "FS Polarstern", avec mention "Deutsche Schiffspost" ("Poste allemande par bateau"), représentant ce navire et incluant le nom de l'Institut Alfred Wegener pour la recherche polaire et marine.
Ce TAD a été appliqué sur la lettre ci-dessus, affranchie avec 2 timbres identiques (0,80€), émis le 5 septembre 2019 pour commémorer le 250ème anniversaire de la naissance d'Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859), célèbre naturaliste, géographe et explorateur allemand ayant fondé les bases des explorations scientifiques, par la qualité des relevés topographiques et des prélèvements de faune et de flore effectués lors de ses expéditions, en Amérique du sud en particulier.
A noter également en bas à gauche sur cette enveloppe ce cachet évoquant cette expédition MOSAiC et en particulier sa 5ème et dernière phase. 

This October 12, 2020, a special postmark was also put into circulation on board the "FS Polarstern", with the mention "Deutsche Schiffspost" ("German Post by boat"), representing this ship and including the name of the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research.

This postmark has been applied to the above letter, franked with 2 identical stamps (€ 0.80), issued on September 5, 2019 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859), famous German naturalist, geographer and explorer who founded the bases of scientific explorations, by the quality of the topographical surveys and the samples of fauna and flora carried out during his expeditions, in South America in particular.

To note also at the bottom left of this envelope this cachet evoking this MOSAiC expedition and in particular its 5th and last phase.
