Hommage à l'explorateur Frič en Rép. Tchèque

A tribute to traveller Frič in Czech Republic

Parmi les nombreuses émissions de nouveaux timbres tchèques le 5 septembre 2012, déjà présentées sur ce blog, il y a également un timbre (10 Kč) commémorant le 130ème anniversaire de la naissance de l'explorateur, botaniste, ethnographe et écrivain tchèque Alberto Vojtěch Frič (1882-1944).
C'est ce timbre, conçu par Jan Kavan et gravé par Vaclav Fajt, qui figure sur le FDC officiel ci-dessous avec TAD de Prague, ville de naissance de Frič. Merci beaucoup Bret :-)
Among the many new Czech stamp issues on September 5, 2012, already featured on this blog, there is also a stamp (10 Kč) commemorating the 130th anniversary of the birth of the Czech explorer, botanist, ethnographer and writer Alberto Vojtěch Frič (1882-1944).
It is that stamp, designed by Jan Kavan and engraved by Vaclav Fajt, that appears on the official FDC below with postmarks from Prague, the Frič's birthplace. Thank you very much Bret :-)

Surnommé le "chasseur de cactus" en Europe, Alberto Vojtěch Frič était déjà considéré à l'âge de 15 ans comme un des plus grands spécialistes en la matière (quelques spécimens de cactus sont représentés sur la gravure à gauche sur cette enveloppe).
Sa collection fut toutefois détruite en 1899 à cause du gel et Alberto Vojtěch Frič débuté alors, entre 1901 et 1929, une série de voyages en Amérique du sud et du nord, pour collecter de nouvelles espèces de plantes. Il rassembla également de nombreuses pièces ethnographiques concernant des tribus sauvages, en particulier la tribu des Chamacoco qui vivent le long du fleuve Paraguay (une femme de cette tribu deviendra même sa femme...).
C'est cette région du Paraguay qui figure dans le fond sur ce timbre à côté du portrait de Frič.
Avec ses nombreuses photographies botaniques et ethnographiques, Frič est également considéré comme un pionnier en la matière en République tchèque.
Nicknamed the "Cactus Hunter" in Europe, Alberto Vojtěch Frič was already considered at the age of 15 years as one of the greatest experts in that field (some cactus specimens are featured on the engraving to the left on this envelope).
However, his whole collection was destroyed in 1899 due to freezing and Alberto Vojtěch Frič began then, between 1901 and 1929, a series of trips in South and North America, to collect new species of plants. He also collected many ethnographic materials concerning wild Indian tribes, in particular the Chamacoco tribe living along the Paraguay River (a woman of that tribe even became his wife...).
It is this region of Paraguay appearing in the background on this stamp next to the portrait of Frič.
With his many botanical and ethnographic photographs, Frič was also considered as a pioneer in this field in Czech Republic.
