Sepac 2021 (historical maps) and Expo 2020 Dubai stamps on cover from Luxembourg

Timbres Sepac 2021 et Expo 2020 Dubaï sur lettre du Luxembourg

Quelques administrations postales (France, Monaco, Pologne, République tchèque, Saint-Marin, Nations Unies, Brésil, Émirats Arabes Unis) ont émis cette année (en 2020 pour Monaco...) des timbres consacrés à l'exposition universelle de Dubaï 2020 qui devait initialement être organisée du 20 octobre 2020 au 10 avril 2021. Mais à cause de la pandémie de Covid-19, cette exposition a été décalée, du 1er octobre 2021 au 31 mars 2022.
La plupart de ces timbres ou blocs-feuillets évoquent les pavillons des pays émetteurs, ce qui est le cas sur le timbre (0,80€) émis le 14 septembre 2021 par la poste du Luxembourg, présent à gauche sur cette lettre envoyée le 4 octobre 2021 depuis la ville d'Esch-sur-Alzette. Cette exposition universelle, organisée pour la 1ère fois dans un pays arabe, a pour thème "Connecter les esprits, construire le futur", autour de 3 sous-thématiques : Opportunité, Mobilité et Durabilité.
Some postal administrations (France, Monaco, Poland, Czech Republic, San Marino, United Nations, Brazil, United Arab Emirates) issued this year (in 2020 for Monaco ...) stamps dedicated to the Dubai World Expo 2020 which was initially to be organized from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021. But because of the Covid-19 pandemic, this exhibition has been postponed, from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.
Most of these stamps or souvenir sheets evoke the pavilions of the issuing countries, which is the case on the stamp (€ 0.80) issued on September 14, 2021 by the Luxembourg Post, present on the left on this cover sent on October 4, 2021 from the city of Esch-sur-Alzette. This Expo 2020 Dubai, organized for the first time in an Arab country, has for theme "Connecting minds, Creating the future", around 3 sub-themes: Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.

 

Le pavillon du Luxembourg, conçu par Metaform Architects, a pour thème "L'ingénieux Luxembourg" ("Resourceful Luxembourg") et a une forme basée sur l'idée du ruban de Möbius, une forme infinie, à l'image de l'économie circulaire, mais symbole aussi d'ouverture et de dynamisme.
L'autre timbre ci-dessus (1,05€), émis le même jour, est la contribution du Luxembourg à la série Sepac (Small European Postal Administration Cooperation), dont le thème cette année est consacré aux cartes historiques.
Ce timbre représente le plus ancien plan de la ville de Luxembourg, conçu vers 1559 par le cartographe néerlandais Jacob van Deventer (1500-1575), sur commande du roi Philippe II d'Espagne, qui le chargea d'établir les plans de toutes les villes importantes des Pays-Bas espagnols.
Jacob van Deventer fut l'un des premiers cartographes à utiliser la triangulation pour établir ses cartes. 

The Luxembourg pavilion, designed by Metaform Architects, has as its theme "Resourceful Luxembourg" and has a shape based on the idea of the Möbius ribbon, an infinite shape, like the circular economy, but also a symbol of openness and dynamism.

The other stamp above (€ 1.05), issued the same day, is Luxembourg's contribution to the Sepac association (Small European Postal Administration Cooperation) series, whose theme this year is dedicated to historical maps.

This stamp represents the oldest plan of the city of Luxembourg, designed around 1559 by the Dutch cartographer Jacob van Deventer (1500-1575), on the order of King Philip II of Spain, who commissioned him to draw up the plans of all the important cities of the Spanish Netherlands.

Jacob van Deventer was one of the first cartographers to use triangulation to establish his maps.
