Le bloc-feuillet ci-dessous, émis le 5 novembre 2008, reproduit l'oeuvre "Allégorie de l'eau" peinte vers 1700 par l'artiste originaire de Bohême, Jan Jakub Hartmann (~1658-~1736).
Cette peinture est conservée à la Galerie Nationale tchèque à Prague.
Les marges du bloc (imprimées on offset) montrent cette toile pratiquement en entier et le timbre (imprimé en taille-douce) reproduit un détail d'une scène figurant dans sa partie inférieure.

The souvenir sheet below, issued on 5th of November 2008, reproduces the work "Allegory of Water" painted around 1700 by the Bohemian artist, Jan Jakub Hartmann (~1658-~1736).
This painting is kept at the Czech National Gallery in Prague.
The margins of this sheet (printed in offset) show almost the whole painting and the stamp (engraved) reproduces a detail from a scene in the lower part.

Au cours de la 2ème moitié du 17ème siècle, Hartmann s'est spécialisé dans les représentations de paysages, s'inspirant des grands maîtres hollandais. Il travaillait alors avec ses deux fils.
L'oeuvre ci-dessus provient d'une série intitulée "Les 4 éléments" et est associée à une autre peinture "Allégorie de la terre".
L'allégorie ci-dessus, jouant sur le contraste entre la forêt très sombre à gauche et une rivière claire à droite, est inspirée de la scène biblique de la pêche miraculeuse du Christ.
Hartmann avait la particularité de ne pas signer ni dater ses oeuvres...
Ce bloc, dessiné et gravé par Martin Srb, a largement mérité son prix de plus beau timbre tchèque émis en 2008 !
During the 2nd half of the 17th century, Hartmann specialized in depictions of landscapes, inspired by the great Dutch masters. He worked with his two sons.
The work above is from a series entitled "The four Elements" and is associated with another painting "Allegory of Earth".
The allegory above, playing with the contrast between a dark forest to the left and a clear river on the right, is inspired by the biblical scene of the Christ's miraculous fishing.
Jan Jakub Hartmann had the particularity of neither sign nor date his works...
This sheet, designed and engraved by Martin Srb, has largely deserved the Award of the most beautiful Czech stamp issued in 2008 !
