From September 9 to October 23, 2011, the seventh edition of the IRB Rugby World Cup will be held in New Zealand, which had already organized the first edition in 1987, together with Australia.
The French Post has issued on general sale on July 11, 2011 a souvenir sheet consisting of four stamps, dedicated to this important international sporting event.
It's this sheet that appears on the FDC souvenir from Paris below.
Thank you very much Joël :-)

To note that three other major cities of rugby in France (Toulouse, Montpellier and Clermont-Ferrand) have also issued this series in preview sale on 8 and 9 July 2011, but with different postmarks.

The background of this sheet (printing run : 2,000,000) and the FDC cancellation evoke both a typical pattern of Maori tattoos. This postmark and the sheet have been both designed by Stéphane Humbert-Basset.
This sheet was designed in the same way as the souvenir sheet issued last year for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa with two stamps featuring game actions, two stamps depicting tourist sites of the host country (Auckland and Arthur's Pass National Park) and the flags of the twenty participating countries.
Unfortunately, I find this series as little successful as last year :(
The French team will try to get out of its pool (with New Zealand, Tonga, Canada and Japan) to win its first ever Rugby World Cup !
To note that the next editions will be held in England in 2015 and Japan in 2019.
