Le 6 octobre 2017, la poste française a mis en circulation (vente Premier Jour) un nouveau timbre à l'occasion du 120ème anniversaire de la naissance du père jésuite Victor Dillard (1897-1945), martyr et figure de la Résistance pendant la 2ème guerre mondiale.
Créé et gravé par Yves Beaujard, ce timbre (0,73€, tirage : 700032) a été conçu à partir d'une photo de Victor Dillard (échangeant avec un jeune américain), avec une vue de Blois (sa ville natale) en arrière-plan, en particulier le pont Jacques-Gabriel sur la Loire et la cathédrale Saint-Louis.

On October 6, 2017, the French Post has put into circulation (First Day of Issue) a new stamp on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Jesuit Father Victor Dillard (1897-1945), martyr and figure of the Resistance during the Second World War.
Created and engraved by Yves Beaujard, that stamp (€ 0.73, print run: 700,032) was designed from a photo of Victor Dillard (exchanging with a young American), with a view of the city of Blois (his hometown) in the background, especially the Jacques-Gabriel bridge over the Loire river and the Saint Louis Cathedral.

En 1915, Victor Dillard s'engage volontaire dans l'armée puis devient lieutenant à 21 ans.
Il entre ensuite dans la Compagnie de Jésus et est ordonné prêtre en 1931, devenant également rapidement aumônier auprès des jeunes et des étudiants de sa ville de Blois.
Pendant la 2ème guerre mondiale, il rejoint l'armée, est fait prisonnier au camp de Mailly. Il est ensuite transféré en Allemagne mais réussit à s'évader pendant le voyage et rejoint la zone libre à Vichy.
Lorsque les Nazis imposent le Service du travail obligatoire aux jeunes française, le Père Dillard décide d'organiser pour ces travailleurs-prisonniers une aumônerie clandestine en Allemagne, à Wuppertal où il se fait passer pour un électricien.
Trahi et arrêté en tant que religieux catholique, il est interné au camp de concentration de Dachau en novembre 1944 où il meurt le 12 janvier 1945, affaibli par la maladie et les atrocités du camp...
In 1915, Victor Dillard was a volunteer in the French army and became a lieutenant at age 21.
He then entered the Society of Jesus and was ordained a priest in 1931, also quickly becoming a chaplain to the young people and students of his city of Blois.
During the 2nd World War, he joined the army, was taken prisoner. He was then transferred to Germany but managed to escape during the trip and joined the free zone in Vichy.
When Nazis imposed the compulsory work service to French youth, Father Dillard decided to organize a clandestine chaplaincy for them in Wuppertal, Germany, where he pretended to be an electrician.
Betrayed and arrested as a Catholic cleric, he was interned at the Dachau concentration camp in November 1944 where he died on January 12, 1945, weakened by the disease and the atrocities of the camp...
