L'indépendance du Kosovo a été proclamée unilatéralement le 17 février 2008 lors d'une session extraordinaire du parlement, qui déclarait ce nouveau pays indépendant de la Serbie, cette dernière s'y opposant fermement.
Cette indépendance est toujours contestée aujourd'hui par la Serbie qui la considère comme une de ses provinces, et divise la communauté internationale, 117 pays ayant reconnu officiellement cette indépendance dont 24 des 28 pays de l'Union Européenne (tous sauf l'Espagne, la Roumanie, la Grèce et la Slovaquie).
Depuis 10 ans, le pays est devenu membre de la plupart des grandes organisations sportives mondiales mais reste à ce jour non membre des principales institutions internationales (ONU, UNESCO...), la Chine et la Russie en particulier ne reconnaissant pas cette indépendance.
Kosovo's independence was proclaimed unilaterally on February 17, 2008 during a special session of parliament, which declared the new country independent of Serbia, the latter strongly opposing it.
This independence is still disputed today by Serbia which considers it as one of its provinces, and divides the international community, 117 countries having officially recognized this independence including 24 of the 28 countries of the European Union (all except Spain, Romania, Greece and Slovakia).
For the last 10 years, the country has become a member of most of the world's major sports organizations but to this day remains a non-member of the main international institutions (UN, UNESCO ...), China and Russia in particular not recognizing this independence.

Le 17 février 2018, la poste du Kosovo a mis en circulation un timbre (2,10€, tirage : 14000) consacré au 10ème anniversaire de cette indépendance ("10 vjetori I Pavarësisë së Kosovës").
Conçu par F. Bejtullahu, ce timbre, imprimé en feuillet de 4 timbres + 1 vignette, figure sur la lettre ci-dessus envoyée le 8 septembre 2018 depuis la ville de Rahovec (Orahovac en serbe), située dans le sud-ouest du pays. Merci beaucoup Sabri !
Ce timbre comporte le drapeau du Kosovo dans le fond avec le chiffre 10 au 1er plan, ainsi qu'un extrait de la déclaration d'indépendance signée le 17 février 2008.
On February 17, 2018, the Post of Kosovo issued a stamp (€ 2.10, print run: 14,000) devoted to the 10th anniversary of this independence ("10 vjetori I Pavarësisë së Kosovës").
Designed by F. Bejtullahu, that stamp, printed in a sheetlet of 4 stamps + 1 label, was used on the letter above sent on September 8, 2018 from the city of Rahovec (Orahovac in Serbian), located in the south-west of the country. Thank you very much Sabri!
That stamp features the Kosovo flag in the background with the number 10 in the foreground, as well as an extract of the declaration of independence signed on February 17, 2008.
