L'itinéraire de Rose Valland (1898-1980), attachée au musée du Jeu de Paume à Paris pendant la 2ème guerre mondiale, constitue un témoignage marquant de la Résistance qu'a su opposer le monde des musées aux convoitises allemandes sur le patrimoine artistique français.
L'histoire de Rose Valland, peu connue du grand public, permet ainsi d'apporter un nouvel éclairage sur les enjeux économiques et culturels de la collaboration et met en évidence l'importance des spoliations subies par les familles juives à cette période.
Courageuse et déterminée face à l'Occupant, Rose Valland a réussi à se maintenir en poste au cœur même du lieu de transit des œuvres en partance pour l'Allemagne. Sa ténacité permettra de mener à bien la politique de récupération de ce patrimoine après la guerre, contribuant ainsi à la restitution des biens (près de 50000) des victimes juives et à la reconstitution des collections nationales...
The itinerary of Rose Valland (1898-1980), attaché at the Jeu de Paume Museum in Paris during the Second World War, is a striking testimony of the Resistance that the world of museums has been able to oppose to German lusts over the French artistic heritage.
The story of Rose Valland, little known to the general public, thus provides a new perspective on the economic and cultural issues of the Collaboration and highlights the importance of spoliations suffered by Jewish families at this time.
Courageous and determined against German Occupier, Rose Valland managed to stay in the very heart of the transit place for the works bound for Germany. Le 1er octobre 2018 (vente générale), la poste française a mis en circulation un nouveau timbre (1,20€, tirage : 500010) consacré à la mémoire de Rose Valland.
Ce timbre, conçu par l'illustratrice Eloïse Oddos, figure sur le pli Premier Jour ci-dessus, avec TAD de Paris (conçu également par Eloïse Oddos) du 28 septembre 2018. Merci beaucoup Joël !
Le même TAD, évoquant la rose créée en 2013 en son honneur (dans la roseraie historique du Musée dauphinois à Grenoble) était mis en circulation les 28 et 29 septembre 2018 à Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs (38), sa ville natale.
Cette même rose est présente en haut à droite sur le timbre, conçu à partir d'une photographie montrant Rose Valland en 1934 au Jeu de Paume à Paris lors d'une exposition consacrée au sculpteur argentin José Fioravanti (1896-1977).
A noter que ce même jour, un autre timbre conçu par Eloïse Oddos, consacré à Louise de Bettignies, a été mis en circulation, ce qui, à ma connaissance, est une première en France !
On October 1, 2018 (general sale), the French Post has put into circulation a new stamp (€ 1.20, print run: 500,010) dedicated to the memory of Rose Valland.
That stamp, designed by illustrator Eloïse Oddos, is present on the First Day cover above, with cancellations from Paris (also designed by Eloïse Oddos) dated September 28, 2018. Thank you very much Joël!
The same postmark, evoking the rose created in 2013 in her honor (in the historic rose garden of the Musée dauphinois in Grenoble) was put into circulation on 28 and 29 September 2018 in Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs (38), her birth place.
This same rose is present at the top right on the stamp, designed from a photograph featuring Rose Valland in 1934 at the Jeu de Paume Museum in Paris during an exhibition dedicated to the Argentinian sculptor José Fioravanti (1896-1977).
To note that the same day, another stamp designed by Eloïse Oddos, dedicated to Louise de Bettignies, was put into circulation, which, unless I'm mistaken, is a first in France!
