Le 27 juillet 2018, les administrations postales de Pologne et de Lituanie ont mis en circulation un timbre commun ayant pour thème le 300ème anniversaire du couronnement de l'icône de la Mère de Dieu de Trakai (Lituanie).
La poste polonaise a imprimé ce timbre (3,20 PLN, conception : Agnieszka Sancewicz, tirage : 105000) dans un joli bloc-feuillet composé de 2 timbres + 2 vignettes alors que la poste lituanienne a émis ce timbre dans un bloc-feuillet composé de 4 timbres + 2 vignettes (tirage : 30000 timbres).
La version polonaise de ce bloc-feuillet a été utilisée sur la lettre ci-dessous envoyée le 31 octobre 2018 depuis la ville de Łosice (centre-est du pays). Merci beaucoup Gregorz !
Le timbre représente cette icône alors que la vignette la montre avec son revêtement doré et cette couronne ajoutée en 1718.
On July 27, 2018, the Polish and Lithuanian postal administrations issued put into circulation a joint stamp devoted to the 300th anniversary of the coronation of the icon of the Mother of God (Our Lady) of Trakai, Lithuania.
The Polish Post printed this stamp (3.20 PLN, design: Agnieszka Sancewicz, print run: 105,000) in a nice souvenir sheet consisting of 2 stamps + 2 vignettes while the Lithuanian Post issued this stamp in a souvenir sheet composed of 4 stamps + 2 vignettes (print run: 30,000 stamps).
The Polish version of this souvenir sheet was used on the letter below sent on October 31, 2018 from the city of Łosice (center-east of the country). Thank you very much Gregorz!
The stamp represents this icon while the vignette shows it with its golden coating and this crown added in 1718.
Les 2 anges dorés sur les marges latérales de ce bloc-feuillet figurent sur l'autel principal de la basilique Sainte-Marie à Trakai, une ville située dans le sud-est de la Lituanie, célèbre pour son château, où cette icône est située.
Cette icône, représentant la Vierge Marie, avec l'enfant Jésus assis sur ses genoux et tenant une branche avec trois fleurs dans sa main gauche, a été peinte au milieu du 15ème siècle (partiellement repeinte au début du 17ème siècle).
Le 4 septembre 1718, le pape Clément XI (1649-1721) envoie l'évêque polonais Konstanty Kazimierz Brzostowski (1644-1722) pour le couronnement canonique de l'icône vénérée dans cette région. Lors de ce couronnement, cette Mère de Dieu de Trakai est déclarée Patronne de la Lituanie et l'icône reçoit le titre de Santé des malades.
Il s'agissait de la première image de la Vierge Marie à être couronnée par le pape en Lituanie et seulement la 2ème dans le monde en dehors de Rome.
Le Parlement de Lituanie a déclaré l'année 2018 "Année de la Mère de Dieu de Trakai" pour marquer les 300 ans du couronnement de cette icône sainte.
The two golden angels on the side margins of this souvenir sheet are included on the main altar of St. Mary's Basilica in Trakai, a town in south-eastern Lithuania, famous for its castle, where this icon is located.
This icon, depicting the Virgin Mary, with the baby Jesus sitting on her lap and holding a branch with three flowers in her left hand, was painted in the middle of the 15th century (partially repainted at the beginning of the 17th century).
On September 4, 1718, Pope Clement XI (1649-1721) sent Polish bishop Konstanty Kazimierz Brzostowski (1644-1722) for the canonical coronation of the venerated icon in this region. At this coronation, this Mother of God of Trakai is declared Patroness of Lithuania and the icon receives the title of Health of the sick.
It was the first image of the Virgin Mary to be crowned by the Pope in Lithuania and only the 2nd in the world outside Rome.
The Parliament of Lithuania declared the year 2018 "Year of the Mother of God of Trakai" to mark the 300-year jubilee of the coronation of this holy icon.
