135 years of diplomatic relations between Romania and the USA

Romania and the United States of America officially established diplomatic relations on June 14, 1880.
On November 18, 1880, in Washington, a special envoy of Prince Carol I, Colonel Sergiu Voinescu, notified the US President Rutherford B. Hayes the independence of Romania. Colonel Sergiu Voinescu then became the first Romanian diplomat to be officially received at the White House.
To commemorate the 135th anniversary of these diplomatic relations with USA, the Romanian Post has released, on November 18, 2015, a special stamp (L 3.60).

It is that stamp, designed by Mihai Vămăşescu, which was used on the first day cover above (with the American flag upside down), with psotmarks from Bucharest. Thank you very much Mihnea !
That stamp was issued in sheet of  32 stamps as well as in a sheetlet (print run : 1,120 sheetlets) composed of 7 stamps + 2 different vignettes representing Romanian and American coins of that time, with the portrait of Rutherford B. Hayes (the 19th US President) and prince Carol I (later King of Romania between 1881 and 1914).
These two characters are also present on the stamp with the flags of the two countries in the background and the words "International recognition of Romanian independence" at the bottom.
Romania, a NATO member since 2004, has signed many privileged partnership agreements with the USA, particularly in the military and security, economic, science and technology, research, educational or cultural fields.
