Fourth centenary of the death of El Greco in Spain

On June 19, 2014, the Spanish Post has commemorated the 400th anniversary of the death of the painter El Greco (1541-1614), considered as the founder of the Spanish painter school of the 16th century, by issuing a beautiful souvenir sheet, inspired by one of the major works exhibited at the El Greco Museum in Toledo : "View and Plan of Toledo" (1610).
I was very lucky to receive the official FDC regarding this numbered souvenir sheet (€ 2.00, print run : 300,000), with FDC cancelaltion from Toledo, sent on November 16, 2015 from Madrid. Thank you very much Luis !
The stamp, partially engraved, delimits a fragment of this painting, with the city of Toledo at the bottom and the Virgin presenting the chasuble to San Ildefonso in the sky.

To note that this sheet integrates an Augmented Reality (AR) technology which, using a smartphone, allows to view stamps devoted to El Greco and his painting in this case.
El Greco (Dominikos Theotokópoulos is his real name) began his apprenticeship as an icon painter in Crete, then a territory of the Republic of Venice where he settled in 1560.
He then rubs the great painters of the Italian Renaissance such as Titian, Tintoretto, Bassano or Veronese.
After Rome in 1570, El Greco settled in Spain, in Toledo, in 1577, where he lived and worked until his death in 1614.
It was during these Spanish years that he painted his greatest works : altarpieces for the monastery of Santo Domingo el Antiguo, "The Disrobing of Christ" for the Cathedral of Toledo as well as large paintings for churches and religious institutions and series of individual portraits.
The illustration on the left on this envelope also contained fragments of two other works of El Greco : "View of Toledo" (Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York) and "Baptism of Christ" (Prado Museum in Madrid).
