Tribute to František Ladislav Rieger on FDC from Czech Republic

On October 24, 2018, the Czech Post issued several stamps including the one (27 CZK, design: Jan Kavan, engraving: Václav Fajt) present on the official FDC (print run: 3,200) below, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of František Ladislav Rieger (1818-1903), politician, economist and journalist, famous for having been a leader of the Czech nationalist movement.
Thank you very much Bret for this FDC with cancellations from Semily (north of the Czech Republic), hometown of Rieger, representing his ornamental monogram!
The illustration on the left evokes Rieger's writing desk with various authentic objects, such as several volumes of his encyclopaedia of general knowledge "Slovník naučný" (published between 1858 and 1874), his lion-shaped paperweight, his inkwell, his clock, a frame with a portrait of František Palacký, a handstamp and a manuscript of the Declaration of Citizen Rights.

Son of a miller, František Ladislav Rieger studied law and joined the Czech nationalist movement very young.
After a short-term job as a criminal court clerk following his university graduation, Rieger became a journalist.
During the revolutionary year of 1848 he was one of the Czech politicians and active members of the Austrian parliament who tried in vain to enforce the liberal principles of the Austrian constitution and the federalization of the monarchy.
After the restoration of the constitutional monarchy in 1860, he returned to politics as the main collaborator and successor of František Palacký, chairman of the Old Czechs Party.
He was then a member of the Austro-Hungarian parliament from 1879, president of the parliamentary Czech Club and later member of the upper chamber of the Austro-Hungarian parliament.
By the end of the 1880s, his grip on political power weakened with the weakening strength of the Old Czechs Party.
