Série EUROPA 2020 (Anciennes routes postales) sur lettre de Slovénie

Merci beaucoup Petra pour cette jolie lettre envoyée le 28 juillet 2020 depuis la capitale slovène, Ljubljana, affranchie avec les 2 timbres de la série EUROPA émise le 13 juillet 2020, illustrant le thème des anciennes routes postales ("starodavne poštne poti" en slovène) !
Ces 2 timbres (tirage : 40000 chacun), conçus par Zlatko Drčar, ont été imprimés, comme de coutume, chacun en feuillet composé de 8 timbres + 1 vignette.
A travers cette série, la poste slovène nous transporte à l'époque romaine et au 17ème siècle, marquant les débuts du réseau postal en Europe.
Dans l'antiquité romaine, le territoire de la Slovénie actuelle était un carrefour incluant plusieurs routes très fréquentées et très importantes. L'État romain avait créé un service de messagerie appelé "cursus publicus" pour le transport des communications officielles.
Des chariots rapides étaient utilisés pour transporter une grande variété de communications officielles sur des tablettes de cire ou des rouleaux de papyrus, ainsi que de l'argent, des objets importants...
Des stations relais ("positae stationes") étaient situées le long des routes, généralement à une journée d'intervalle.
Thank you very much Petra for this lovely letter sent on July 28, 2020 from the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, franked with the two stamps of the EUROPA series issued on July 13, 2020, illustrating the theme of the ancient postal routes ("starodavne poštne poti" in Slovene) !
These 2 stamps (print run: 40,000 each), designed by Zlatko Drčar, were printed, as usual, each in a sheet consisting of 8 stamps + 1 label.
Through this series, the Slovenian Post takes us back to Roman times and the 17th century, marking the beginnings of the postal network in Europe.
In Roman antiquity, the territory of present-day Slovenia was a crossroads with several busy and very important roads. The Roman state had created a courier service called "cursus publicus" for the transport of official communications.
Fast carriages were used to transport a wide variety of official communications on wax tablets or papyrus scrolls, as well as money, important objects ...
Relay stations ("positae stationes") were located along the roads, usually one day's journey apart.  

 

Une des plus anciennes représentations de ces chariots utilisés à l'époque est un bas-relief romain représentant un attelage ("Voyage vers le monde souterrain") emmuré aujourd'hui dans l'église du village de Maria Saal en Autriche, lieu de pèlerinage connu pour son sanctuaire de Sainte-Marie.
Ce bas-relief, qui semble constituer la plus ancienne représentation d'un transport postal, a été découvert dans une tombe de l'ancienne cité romaine de Virunum (Carinthie, sud de l'Autriche).
Le timbre ci-dessus à droite (tarif permanent "C" pour un envoi standard international - 1,17€ actuellement) à été conçu à partir de ce bas-relief.
A noter que ce même bas-relief figure également sur des timbres EUROPA 2020 émis par la Bosnie-Herzégovine (HP Mostar), Macédoine du nord, Monténégro et Bulgarie. 
L'autre timbre (tarif permanent "D" pour un envoi ordinaire international 1ère classe - 1,31€ actuellement) représente un postillon, un messager postal à cheval, jouant ici du cor. Ce timbre est inspiré d'une célèbre estampe d'une circulaire (Flugblatt) annonçant la fin de la guerre de Trente Ans (1618-1648), alors largement diffusée dans tout le Saint Empire romain germanique. Ce postillon est devenu synonyme du facteur apportant de joyeuses nouvelles. 

One of the oldest representations of these carriages used at the time is a Roman bas-relief called "Journey to the Underworld" walled up today in the church of the village of Maria Saal, Austria, a place of pilgrimage known for its St Mary's sanctuary. 

This bas-relief, which seems to constitute the oldest representation of a postal transport, was discovered in a tomb in the ancient Roman city of Virunum (Carinthia, southern Austria). 

The stamp above on the right (permanent rate "C" for an international standard shipment - currently € 1.17) was designed from this bas-relief. 

To note that this same bas-relief is also featured on EUROPA 2020 stamps issued by Bosnia-Herzegovina (HP Mostar), North Macedonia, Montenegro and Bulgaria.

The other stamp (permanent rate "D" for an ordinary international 1st class shipment - currently € 1.31) features a postilion, a postal messenger on horseback, here playing the horn. This stamp is inspired by a famous print of a handbill (Flugblatt) announcing the end of the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648), which was circulated widely throughout the Holy Roman Empire. This postillion became a synonym for the postman bringing joyful news.
