EUROPA 2020 (Ancient postal routes) stamp set on cover from Vatican City

Série EUROPA 2020 (Anciennes routes postales) sur lettre du Vatican

Le 23 juin 2020, l'Ufficio Filatelico e Numismatico (UFN) de la Cité du Vatican a mis en circulation une très intéressante série EUROPA (2 timbres) ayant pour thème cette année les anciennes routes postales ("Antiche vie postali" en italien).
Ces 2 timbres (tirage : 45000 chacun), imprimés en France par Cartor en feuillet de 10 timbres, reproduisent des illustrations extraites du "Corpus Agrimensorum Romanorum" du 6ème siècle, ayant fait partie de l'ancienne bibliothèque palatine dont les origines remontent à la fondation de l'Université de Heidelberg (Allemagne) en 1386. 
Ces manuscrits, faisant aujourd'hui partie des collections de la bibliothèque apostolique vaticane, ont servi de modèles pour la célèbre table de Peutinger (13ème siècle) où figurent les routes et les villes principales de l'Empire romain, incluant l'ancien réseau postal "cursus publicus". 
On June 23, 2020, the Ufficio Filatelico e Numismatico (UFN) of the Vatican City put into circulation a very interesting EUROPA set (2 stamps) devoted this year to the theme of the ancient postal routes ("Antiche vie postali" in Italian).
These two stamps (print run: 45,000 each), printed in France by Cartor in sheetlet of 10 stamps, reproduce illustrations taken from the "Corpus Agrimensorum Romanorum" of the 6th century, having been part of the old palatine library whose origins date back to the foundation of the University of Heidelberg, Germany in 1386.
These manuscripts, now part of the collections of the Vatican Apostolic Library, served as models for the famous Peutinger Table (13th century) where the roads and main cities of the Roman Empire are shown, including the old postal network "cursus publicus".

 

Ces 2 timbres, sur lesquels les anciennes voies romaines sont imprimées avec une encre dorée, figurent sur cette jolie lettre envoyée le 19 août 2020 depuis la Cité du Vatican. Merci beaucoup Salvatore !
Le 1er timbre (1,10€) reproduit une magnifique miniature représentant la Colonia Julia Augusta Ta(urinorum), occupant deux pages entières du "Corpus Agrimensorum Romanorum", avec l'enceinte et les tours de la ville fortifiée de Turin à droite, avec l'intersection des 2 voies principales, le Cardo Massimo (direction nord-sud) et le Decumano Massimo (direction est-ouest).
L'autre timbre (1,15€) est consacré à la Colonia Axurnas et la ville fortifiée de Terracina dans laquelle pénètre la Via Appia, une voie romaine de près de 500 km de longueur, qui partait de Rome et longeait la côte tyrrhénienne, traversant les terres de la Campanie et de la Basilicate pour terminer dans les Pouilles.
These two stamps, on which the ancient Roman roads are printed with golden ink, are present on this nice letter sent on August 19, 2020 from the Vatican City. Thank you very much Salvatore!
The first stamp (€ 1.10) reproduces a magnificent miniature representing the Colonia Julia Augusta Ta(urinorum), occupying two whole pages of the "Corpus Agrimensorum Romanorum", with the enclosure and the towers of the fortified city of Turin on the right, with the intersection of the two main roads, the Cardo Massimo (north-south direction) and the Decumano Massimo (east-west direction).
The other stamp (€ 1.15) is dedicated to the Colonia Axurnas and the fortified town of Terracina with a section of the Via Appia, a Roman road nearly 500 km in length, which started from Rome and ran along the Tyrrhenian coast, crossing the lands of Campania and Basilicata to end in Puglia.
