Timbre "400ème anniversaire du Mayflower" sur FDC des États-Unis d'Amérique
L'année 2020 marquait le 400ème anniversaire du départ du
Mayflower de Plymouth en Angleterre, pour découvrir le Nouveau Monde,
désormais connu sous le nom des États-Unis d'Amérique.
Ce navire est
devenu une icône culturelle dans l'histoire des États-Unis et plus de 30
millions d'américains peuvent retracer leur ascendance jusqu'aux 102
passagers et 30 membres d'équipage à bord du Mayflower lorsqu'il arriva à
Plymouth Bay (Massachusetts).
Les passagers, des dissidents
religieux anglais ("Pères pèlerins") et d'autres européens à la
recherche d'un lieu pour pratiquer librement leur religion, fondèrent la
colonie de Plymouth (qui exista de 1620 à 1691), la seconde colonie
permanente anglaise après Jamestown en Virginie, fondée en 1607.
The year 2020 marked the 400th
anniversary of the Mayflower's departure from Plymouth, England, to
discover the New World, now known as the United States of America.
This
ship has become a cultural icon in the United States history and more
than 30 million Americans can trace their ancestry back to the 102
passengers and 30 crew aboard the Mayflower when it arrived in Plymouth
Bay, Massachusetts.
The passengers, English religious dissidents
("Pilgrim Fathers") and other Europeans seeking a place to freely
practice their religion, founded the colony of Plymouth (which existed
from 1620 to 1691), the second permanent English colony after Jamestown
(Virginia) founded in 1607.
Le 17 septembre 2020, l'USPS a mis en circulation un très joli timbre (tarif permanent domestique "Forever" - 0,55$ actuellement) consacré au 400ème anniversaire de l'arrivée de ces 102 passagers anglais du Mayflower au large de l'actuelle Plymouth (Massachusetts).
Ce timbre autocollant (tirage : 25 millions), imprimé en feuille de 20 timbres, figure en 2 exemplaire sur ce splendide pli Premier Jour avec
TAD de Plymouth. Merci beaucoup Tristan !
J'aime beaucoup ce timbre montrant le Mayflower arrivant à Plymouth (illustration de Greg Harlin) en 1620, vers un monde inconnu. A noter sur ce timbre la présence d'une fleur d'aubépine stylisée imprimée en taille-douce, faisant partie de la famille des roses, parfois appelée "fleur de mai" ("mayflower").
L'île de Man a également émis en 2020 une série (6 timbres) consacrée à ce 400ème anniversaire du Mayflower.

On September 17, 2020, the USPS put into circulation a very nice stamp (permanent domestic rate "Forever" - $ 0.55 currently) dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the arrival of these 102 English passengers of the Mayflower off the coast of the current Plymouth, Massachusetts.
This self-adhesive stamp (print run: 25 million), printed in pane of 20 stamps, is present in 2 copies on this splendid First Day cover with postmark from Plymouth. Thank you very much Tristan!
I really love this stamp showing the Mayflower arriving in Plymouth Harbor (illustration by Greg Harlin) in 1620, then discovering an unknown world. To note on this stamp the presence of a stylized hawthorn flower printed in intaglio, member of the rose family, sometimes called a mayflower.
The Isle of Man also issued in 2020 a series (6 stamps) dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower.
