Du 14 au 23 novembre 2011, Singapour (Marina Bay) a accueilli la 20ème édition de la "World Orchid Conference (WOC)", une conférence internationale consacrée aux orchidées. A noter que Singapour avait déjà organisé en 1963 la 4ème édition de cette manifestation florale organisée tous les 3 ans depuis 1954.
Singapour a sans doute été choisie pour avoir été dans le passé une des 1ères places mondiales pour le commerce des orchidées et est toujours actuellement un important centre de marché des orchidées d'orient comme d'occident.
From 14 to 23 November 2011, Singapore (Marina Bay) has hosted the 20th edition of the "World Orchid Conference" (WOC), an international conference devoted to orchids. To note that Singapore had already organized in 1963 the fourth edition of this floral event organized every three years since 1954.
Singapore was certainly chosen for having been in the past one of the most important producers of orchids for commerce in the world and for being currently still an important marketplace for orchids from both the east and west.

Parmi les orchidées choisies pour cette série : l'incontournable Vanda Miss Joaquim (la fleur nationale de Singapour depuis 1981), la Renanthera (la fleur officielle de cette conférence), la Grammatophyllum speciosum (la plus grande orchidée du monde, également appelée "orchidée tigre") ou la Dendrobium World Peace (une fleur hybride conçue en 1995 à l'occasion du 50ème anniversaire des Nations Unies).
La prochaine édition (21ème) de cette WOC aura lieu à Johannesbourg (Afrique du sud) en 2014 et la suivante devrait être organisée en 2017 à Guayaquil (Équateur).

Among the orchids chosen for this set : the inevitable Vanda Miss Joaquim (Singapore's national flower since 1981), the Renanthera (the official flower of this conference), Grammatophyllum speciosum (the largest orchid in the world, also called "Tiger Orchid") or Dendrobium World Peace (an hybrid flower commemorating the 50th anniversary of the United Nations in 1995).
The next (21st) edition of this WOC will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2014 and the 22nd edition should be organized in 2017 in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
