Série "Relations diplomatiques" au Brésil

"Diplomatic Ties" stamp series in Brazil

The Brazilian Post is continuing in 2011 its stamp issues devoted to diplomatic relations. Belgium, Paraguay, Serbia, Ukraine, Italy and Qatar are thus in the spotlight this year.
I was lucky to receive the two FDC below devoted to "diplomatic relations" stamps with Paraguay (issued on May 6, 2011) and Ukraine (issued on August 24, 2011).
Thank you very much Marcelo for these interesting stamp souvenirs mailed on October 27, 2011 from Sao Paulo :-)

The stamp above to the right (2 copies) features the Itaipu hydroelectric plant. Located on the Parana River on the border between Brazil and Paraguay, this plant symbolizes the close relationship between the two countries.
On this aerial view, you can see the reservoir in the background, the dam to the right and the open spillway to the left. The border is located at the center of the dam with the Brazilian side to the right and the Paraguayan side to the left.
This plant, meeting 18% and 90% of all Brazil's and Paraguay's electricity needs, is considered as the largest producer of clean, renewable energy on the planet !
To note the officiel logo of the 200th anniversary of the independence of Paraguay included at the bottom left on this stamp.
I don't know if this stamp is a joint issue with the Post of Paraguay ??

The other stamp above refers to the 120th anniversary of the first Ukrainian Immigrants in Brazil, who arrived in 1891 in the State of Parana for most of them.
Almost 500,000 descendants of Ukrainian are now living in Brazil.
This stamp shows to the left a night view of St. Sophia Cathedral (a UNESCO World Heritage site) located in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, and the wooden church of St. Michael the Archangel to the right, the first church to be built in Brazil by the Ukrainian community in Mallet (State of Parana).
The golden decorative symboles included on this stamp are a reminder of traditional patterns used in Ukrainian embroidery or on Easter eggs (Pysansky).
To note that the same day, the Ukrainian Post has also issued a stamp (with a different design) devoted to this 120th anniversary...
