Pour rappel, depuis 2014, certains pays membres (22 au total actuellement) de l'Union Postale pour la Méditerranée (PUMed), une union restreinte de l'UPU, émettent chaque année des timbres "Euromed Postal" ayant un thème commun lié à la région méditerranéenne.
Après les "Maisons de la Méditerranée" en 2018, les 14 administrations postales participantes ont émis cette année des timbres "Euromed Postal" différents consacrés à des types de costumes traditionnels du pourtour de la mer Méditerranée.
La version chypriote de ce timbre (1,88€, tirage : 190000, imprimé en feuillet de 8 timbres), conçu par Theodoros Kakoullis, figure sur cette lettre envoyée le 9 octobre 2019 (Journée mondiale de la poste) depuis Nicosie (Lefkosia en grec).
As a reminder, since 2014, some member countries (currently 22 in total) of the Postal Union for the Mediterranean (PUMed), a restricted union of the UPU, are issuing each year "Euromed Postal" stamps devoted to a common theme related to the Mediterranean region.
After the "Houses of the Mediterranean" in 2018, the 14 participating postal administrations have issued this year different "Euromed Postal" stamps devoted to traditional types of costumes around the Mediterranean Sea.
The Cypriot version of this stamp (€ 1.88, print run: 190,000, printed in sheetlet of 8 stamps), designed by Theodoros Kakoullis, was used on this letter sent on October 9, 2019 (World Post Day) from Nicosia (Lefkosia in Greek).
Le logo Euromed Postal (un faucon stylisé) est présent en bas à droite sur ce timbre, comme de coutume.
Les tenues traditionnelles chypriotes (hommes et femmes) reflètent un caractère conservateur, avec toutefois une grande diversité et un certain charme, comme cette tenue urbaine féminine sur ce timbre, typique de la région de Karpas ou Paphos.
La pièce principale du costume masculin est un pantalon bouffant appelé "vraka", se portant en semaine avec une chemise en coton rayée de couleur foncée ou avec une chemise en soie le week-end ou pendant certaines fêtes.
A noter également ce 2ème timbre (0,02€, émission de 2019) avec mention "Refugee Stamp" (en grec, anglais et turc), réémis régulièrement, apposé en complément sur toutes les lettres et cartes postales postées sur l'île afin de financer un fond pour les réfugiés grecs ayant fui le nord de l'île après l'invasion turque de 1974.
The Euromed Postal logo (a stylized hawk) is present on the bottom right of this stamp, as usual.
The traditional Cypriot costumes (men and women) reflect a conservative character, with however a great diversity and a certain charm, like this urban feminine outfit on this stamp, typical of the region of Karpasia or Pafos.
The basic piece of the male costume is a multi-pleated pants called "vraka", worn with a dark striped cotton shirt for everyday use or with a silk shirt on weekends or during certain festivities.
To note also this 2nd stamp (€ 0.02, issue of 2019) with "Refugee Stamp" mention (in Greek, English and Turkish), reissued regularly, affixed in complement on all the letters and postcards mailed from the island in order to finance the fund for the Greek refugees who fled the north after the Turkish invasion in 1974.
