"Disney celebrates 100 years" souvenir sheet on FDC from Switzerland

Bloc-feuillet "Disney fête ses 100 ans" sur FDC de Suisse

Le 16 octobre 1923, Walt Disney (1901-1966) fonda officiellement à Los Angeles le "Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio" (qui deviendra plus tard "The Walt Disney Company"), son premier studio d'animation, qui révolutionna dès sa création l'industrie du divertissement.
En près d'un siècle, Disney a inventé de nouvelles manières de raconter des histoires et a donné naissance à quelques-uns des personnages les plus emblématiques, Mickey Mouse en particulier, qui sont entrés aujourd'hui au panthéon de la culture populaire. 
Le 9 novembre 2023, la poste suisse a mis en circulation 2 timbres autocollants (1,10 CHF chacun) consacré au 100ème anniversaire de Disney, représentant respectivement Mickey Mouse et Minnie Mouse.
Ces 2 timbres ont été imprimés chacun en feuillet de 10 timbres ainsi que dans un même bloc-feuillet, présent sur cette lettre avec TAD Premier Jour de Berne. Merci beaucoup Jürgen !
D'autres personnages de Disney figurent dans les marges de ce bloc-feuillet : Dingo, Pluto, Daisy Duck et Donald Duck.
A noter que des timbres consacrés à Disney ont également été émis cette année en France, Allemagne, Australie et Pays-Bas. 
On October 16, 1923, Walt Disney (1901-1966) officially founded the "Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio" (which later became "The Walt Disney Company") in Los Angeles, his first animation studio, which revolutionized the entertainment industry.
In nearly a century, Disney invented new ways to tell stories and created some of the most iconic characters, Mickey Mouse in particular, who have entered the pantheon of popular culture today.
On November 9, 2023, the Swiss Post put into circulation two self-adhesive stamps (1.10 CHF each) dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Disney, representing Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse respectively.
These two stamps were each printed in sheetlets of 10 stamps as well as in the same souvenir sheet, present on this cover with First Day cancellation from Bern. Thank you very much Jürgen!
Other Disney characters appear in the margins of this souvenir sheet: Goofy, Pluto, Daisy Duck and Donald Duck.
To note that stamps dedicated to Disney were also issued this year in France, Germany, Australia and the Netherlands.

5 ans après la création du "Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio", le monde fait la connaissance de Mickey Mouse en 1928. En 1937, Disney crée Blanche-Neige et les Sept Nains, le premier long métrage d'animation.
Le premier parc à thème a ouvert ses portes en 1955 : Disneyland. En 1971, Walt Disney World ouvre ses portes et un âge d'or commence avec La Petite Sirène (1989). Les années suivantes ont vu la signature d'un accord de distribution avec Pixar (1991), les acquisitions de Capital Cities/ABC (1995), Marvel Entertainment (2009) et Lucasfilm (2012), et l'acquisition de la plupart des actifs de 20th Century Fox (2019). Le très attendu service de streaming Disney+ a été lancé en 2019.
Tout au long de l'année 2023, Disney rendra hommage aux personnages et récits de ce premier siècle d'émerveillement et présentera, sous l'appellation "Disney 100", un programme de festivités qui proposera au grand public, en France comme dans le monde entier, des expériences immersives, des concerts inédits, des collections exclusives, des événements incroyables à Disneyland Paris.
Disney s'est inspiré de la Suisse plusieurs fois : pour tourner "Le Troisième Homme sur la montagne", Walt Disney s'est rendu à Zermatt en 1958. Cette visite lui a inspiré le grand huit "Matterhorn Bobsleds" que l'on retrouve aujourd'hui dans le parc Disneyland de Californie et le château de Chillon, au bord du lac Léman, lui a également servi de modèle pour le château du Prince Éric dans "La Petite Sirène". 
Five years after the creation of the "Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio", the world met Mickey Mouse in 1928. In 1937, Disney created Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first animated feature film.
The first theme park opened in 1955: Disneyland. In 1971, Walt Disney World opened its doors and a golden age began with The Little Mermaid (1989). The following years saw the signing of a distribution agreement with Pixar (1991), the acquisitions of Capital Cities/ABC (1995), Marvel Entertainment (2009) and Lucasfilm (2012), and the acquisition of most of the assets of 20th Century Fox (2019). The highly anticipated Disney+ streaming service was launched in 2019.
Throughout 2023, Disney will pay tribute to the characters and stories of this first century of wonder and will present, under the name "Disney 100", a program of festivities which will offer the general public, in France and around the world, immersive experiences, new concerts, exclusive collections, incredible events at Disneyland Paris.
Disney was inspired by Switzerland several times: in 1958, during shooting of "Third Man on the Mountain", Walt Disney travelled to the town of Zermatt, where he had the idea for the "Matterhorn Bobsleds" rollercoasters, which are now at Disneyland in California and Château de Chillon on the shore of Lake Geneva served as the inspiration for Prince Eric’s castle in "The Little Mermaid".
