Cet hôpital national de Sorokdo a été établi en 1916 sous occupation japonaise, sur la petite île de Sorokdo située sur la côte sud-ouest de la Corée du Sud (district de Goheung).
Appelée initialement clinique de charité de Sorokdo, cette institution médicale historique a été crée pour isoler des patients et développer des traitements contre la lèpre ou maladie de Hansen.
Des violations des droits de l'homme, incluant du travail forcé, des stérilisations, des avortements obligatoires ou d'autres expérimentations médicales, ont été constatées à cette époque sur ce même site.
Le 17 mai 2016, la poste coréenne a mis en circulation une intéressante jolie de 2 timbres (300 won, tirage : 600012 chacun, conception : Kim Sojeong) consacrée au 100ème anniversaire de cet hôpital national de Sorokdo.
The Sorokdo National Hospital was established in 1916 under Japanese occupation, on the small island of Sorokdo located on the southwest coast of South Korea (Goheung county).
Initially called Sorokdo Charity Clinic, this historic medical institution was created to isolate patients and develop treatments against leprosy or Hansen's disease.
Violations of human rights, including forced labor, sterilizations, forced abortions or other medical experiments, were reported at that time on this same site.
On May 17, 2016, Korea Post has released an interesting set of two stamps (300 won, draw : 600,012 each, design : Kim Sojeong) dedicated to the 100th anniversary of this Sorokdo National Hospital.
Ces 2 timbres (avec mentions imprimées avec une encre dorée) ont été émis dans un même feuillet composé de 12 timbres (6 paires) + 2 timbres dans la partie supérieure avec marges illustrées.
Les 2 timbres de ce haut de feuille ont été utilisés sur ce joli FDC ci-dessus avec TAD de Nambusan. Merci beaucoup Ji-Ho !
Le TAD représente le bâtiment spécialement construit en 1937 sur ce site pour recevoir les cendres des patients lépreux décédés.
Une carte de cette île de Sorokdo est incluse dans la marge supérieure, la partie inférieure montrant le pont reliant l'île à Daegyo, inauguré en 2009 et qui a permis de rompre l'isolement de l'île et de sensibiliser davantage le grand public à l'histoire de cette institution médicale.
Le timbre à gauche montre le bâtiment historique de cet hôpital ainsi qu'un monument montrant Guratop, une statue de l'archange Michel terrassant la maladie de Hansen, l'autre timbre représentant le bâtiment actuel et des mains bienveillantes envers un patient.
These two stamps (with mentions printed with golden ink) have been issued in a same sheet containing 12 stamps (6 pairs) + 2 stamps in the upper part with illustrated margins.

The FDC cancellation is featuring the building specially built in 1937 on this site to receive the ashes of deceased leper patients.
A map of this island of Sorokdo is included in the upper margin, the lower part showing the bridge connecting the island to Daegyo, opened in 2009 and which allowed to break the isolation of the island and to further raise awareness in the history of this medical institution.
The stamp on the left shows the historical building of this hospital as well as a monument showing Guratop, a statue of the Archangel Michael eradicating Hansen's disease, the other stamp depicting the current building and an image of caring hands holding one another.
