Le 2 mai 2019, la Deutsche Post a mis en circulation un très joli timbre EUROPA illustrant cette année le thème des "oiseaux nationaux" choisi par PostEurop.
A l'occasion de la 29ème édition de l'exposition philatélique internationale ("Internationale Briefmarken-Messe") organisée à Essen du 9 au 11 mai 2019, une enveloppe spéciale pré-timbrée ("Messebriefumschlag", prix de vente : 0,90€) a été éditée, avec le visuel de ce timbre EUROPA pré-imprimé.
A noter que, comme les années précédentes, ce timbre a été curieusement émis au tarif domestique (0,70€ pour un envoi standard jusqu'à 20g).

On May 2, 2019, the Deutsche Post has put into circulation a very nice EUROPA stamp illustrating the theme of "national birds" chosen by PostEurop this year.
On the occasion of the 29th edition of the international philatelic exhibition ("Internationale Briefmarken-Messe") held in Essen from 9 to 11 May 2019, a special prepaid envelope ("Messebriefumschlag", selling price: € 0.90) was edited, with the visual of this pre-printed EUROPA stamp.
To note that, as in previous years, this stamp was curiously issued at the domestic rate (€ 0.70 for a standard shipment up to 20g).

Ce timbre comporte la mention "Heimische Vögel" ("Oiseaux locaux") et représente un couple de bruants jaunes (Emberiza citrinella), idem sur l'illustration à gauche sur l'enveloppe.
A travers cette émission, la poste allemande a souhaité rappeler que même ces petits passereaux chanteurs, jadis courants dans nos campagnes eu Europe, sont aujourd'hui menacés et en déclin.
Ce timbre a été conçu par l'agence de design "nexd" (Düsseldorf) à partir d'une illustration de l'ouvrage "Oiseaux d'Europe" (1837) par le célèbre ornithologue et naturaliste britannique John Gould (1804-1881).
Pour atteindre le tarif en vigueur pour un envoi en Europe (0,90€), Jens a également utilisé un des timbres de la série courante "fleurs" en cours (débutée en 2005), des fleurs de jacinthe des bois "Hyacinthoides non-scripta" (0,20€, émis le 8 juin 2017) ici.
This stamp contains the words "Heimische Vögel" ("Local Birds") and represents a couple of yellowhammers (Emberiza citrinella), as in the illustration on the left on the envelope.
Through this issue, the German Post wanted to remind us that even these singing passerines, formerly common in our countryside in Europe, are today threatened and in decline.
This stamp was created by the design agency "nexd" (Düsseldorf) from an illustration of the book "Birds of Europe" (1837) by the famous British ornithologist and naturalist John Gould (1804-1881).
To reach the current rate for a shipment in Europe (€ 0.90), Jens also used one of the stamps of the definitive series "flowers" in progress (started in 2005), "Hyacinthoides non-scripta" blue flowers (€ 0.20, issued on June 8, 2017) here.

En Allemagne, cet oiseau est connu pour son chant s'apparentant parfois à la phrase "Wie, wie, wie hab ich Dich lieb!" ("Comment, comment, comment est-ce que je t'aime") !
A noter enfin qu'environ la moitié (25) des pays ou territoires émettant des timbres EUROPA cette année, incluant l'Allemagne, participent au projet "Europa Bird Stamps 2019" consistant à scanner les timbres (via une application gratuite CEE-app) pour écouter le chant des oiseaux.
Jens was kind enough to also send me the letter above, including this EUROPA stamp, with First Day postmark of May 2, 2019 from Berlin!
In Germany, this bird is known for its song sometimes similar to the phrase "Wie, wie, wie hab ich Dich lieb!" ("How, how, how do I love you!")!
Lastly, about half (25) of the countries or territories issuing EUROPA stamps this year, including Germany, are participating in the "Europa Bird Stamps 2019" project consisting in scanning the stamps (via a free CEE-Application) to listen to the birds singing.
