A l'occasion d'une exposition philatélique nationale organisée du 18 au 20 avril 2019 à Gouda, la poste néerlandaise PostNL a mis en vente anticipée la série EUROPA (2 timbres, émission Premier Jour le 23 avril 2019) dont le thème est consacré cette année aux oiseaux nationaux.
Les Pays-Bas, comme la France par exemple, n'ont pas officiellement d'oiseau national même si l'association BirdLife Netherlands a organisé un vote en 2015 pour en désigner un et c'est la barge à queue noire (Limosa limosa) qui a été choisie.
Mais ce sont 2 espèces de passereaux, le chardonneret élégant et le jaseur boréal qui ont été choisis sur ces 2 timbres EUROPA (tarif "1 International jusqu'à 20g" - 1,45€ actuellement) imprimés dans un même feuillet composé de 6 timbres (3 paires).

On the occasion of a national philatelic exhibition organized from 18 to 20 April 2019 in Gouda, the Dutch PostNL has put the EUROPA series (two stamps, first day of issue on April 23, 2019) in preview sale, a set having the national birds for theme this year.
The Netherlands, like France for example, does not officially have any national bird although the BirdLife Netherlands association organized a contest in 2015 to nominate one, and the black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa) was chosen.
But two species of passerines, the European goldfinch and the Bohemian waxwing, have been chosen on these two EUROPA stamps (tariff "1 International up to 20g" - € 1.45 currently) printed in the same sheetlet of 6 stamps (3 pairs).

Ces 2 timbres (conception : Yvonne van Warmerdam) ont été créés à partir d'aquarelles de l'illustratrice Michelle Dujardin, qui travaille toujours sur un fond blanc, dans un style minimaliste-réaliste et en donnant le sentiment que l'oiseau est en vie...
Le chardonneret élégant (Carduelis carduelis), avec sa face rouge écarlate, est sans doute un des oiseaux les plus colorés vivant sous nos latitudes.
Cet oiseau est particulièrement connu aux Pays-Bas à travers une œuvre "Het puttertje" (1654) du peintre Carel Fabritius (1622-1654). Conservé au Mauritshuis à La Haye, c'est l'une des seules œuvres de Fabritius qui soient parvenues jusqu'à nous.
L'autre timbre montre un oiseau également coloré, le jaseur boréal (Bombycilla garrulus), appelé "pestvogel" ("oiseau de peste"), une espèce peu populaire, longtemps associé au malheur ou à la guerre, soupçonnée également de transmettre la peste...
A noter qu'un chardonneret figure également sur un des 2 timbres EUROPA émis cette année par la poste de Guernesey.
A noter enfin qu'environ la moitié (25) des pays ou territoires émettant des timbres EUROPA cette année, incluant les Pays-Bas (cf mentions dans les marges latérales ci-dessus), participent au projet "Europa Bird Stamps 2019" consistant à scanner les timbres (via une application gratuite CEE-app) pour écouter le chant des oiseaux.

The European goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis), with its scarlet red face, is without doubt one of the most colorful birds living in our latitudes.
This bird is particularly known in the Netherlands through a work "Het puttertje" (1654) by the painter Carel Fabritius (1622-1654). Preserved at the Mauritshuis in The Hague, it is one of the only works by Fabritius still existing today.
The other stamp shows an also colorful bird, the Bohemian waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus), called "pestvogel" ("plague bird"), an unpopular species, long associated with misfortune or war, also suspected of transmitting the plague ...
It should be noted that a goldfinch is also featured on one of the two EUROPA stamps issued this year by the Guernsey Post.
To note also that about half (25) of the countries or territories issuing EUROPA stamps this year, including the Netherlands (cf mentions in the lateral margins above), are participating in the "Europa Bird Stamps 2019" project consisting in scanning the stamps (via a free CEE-Application) to listen to the birds singing.
