Merci beaucoup Jürgen pour cette jolie lettre, envoyée le 2 mai 2019 (1er jour d'émission !) depuis Genève (bureau "Filiale 1200 Genève 21 Les Pâquis"), affranchie avec la série EUROPA 2019 (2 timbres) ayant pour thème les oiseaux nationaux !
Ces 2 timbres (1 CHF chacun), conçus par Claude Luethi, ont été imprimés par Gutenberg AG (Liechtenstein) dans une même feuille composée de 16 timbres (8 de chaque) avec en particulier le nom des oiseaux représentés sur cette série (en allemand, français, italien et anglais) dans la marge inférieure.
C'est le cas pour les 2 timbres se-tenant utilisés sur cette lettre, illustrant un aigle royal et un bécasseau sanderling en vol.
Le logo EUROPA présent sur ces timbres était correct l'année dernière mais à nouveau non conforme sur cette série 2019 (police inadéquate concernant la lettre R) !
Thank you very much Jürgen for this nice letter, sent on May 2, 2019 (the first day of issue!) from Geneva (post office "Filiale 1200 Genève 21 Les Pâquis"), stamped with the EUROPA 2019 set (2 stamps) devoted this year to the theme of national birds!
These 2 stamps (CHF 1.00 each), designed by Claude Luethi, were printed by Gutenberg AG in Liechtenstein, in a unique sheet of 16 stamps (8 of each) with in particular the names of the birds featured on this series (in German, French, Italian and English) in the lower margin.
This is the case for the two se-tenant stamps used on this letter, illustrating a golden eagle and a sanderling in flight.
The EUROPA logo on these stamps was correct last year but again non-compliant on this 2019 series (inadequate font for the letter R)!
La Suisse n'a pas d'oiseau national officiel même si l'aigle royal (Aquila chrysaetos) est un des emblèmes majestueux de la région des Alpes, représentant 61% du territoire.
Entre 350 et 400 couples nicheurs ont été recensés dans le pays, avec son aire de répartition incluse sur une carte de Suisse (encre argentée), en bas à droite sur le timbre.
Cet oiseau a également été choisi sur des timbres EUROPA 2019 émis en Moldavie, Liechtenstein, Bosnie-Herzégovine (République serbe) et Roumanie.
L'autre timbre représente un bécasseau sanderling (Calidris alba), un petit oiseau migrateur moins connu, originaire de la toundra arctique, observé autour des lacs suisses (principalement dans la partie nord de la Suisse, cf la carte également présente sur le timbre) lors de sa migration vers l'Europe du sud et l'Afrique, entre les mois d'avril et juin.
A noter enfin qu'environ la moitié (25) des pays ou territoires émettant des timbres EUROPA cette année, incluant la Suisse, participent au projet "Europa Bird Stamps 2019" consistant à scanner les timbres (via une application gratuite CEE-app) pour écouter le chant des oiseaux.
Switzerland does not have any official national bird although the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) is one of the majestic emblems of the Alpine region, representing 61% of the territory.
Between 350 and 400 breeding pairs have been recorded in the country, with its distribution area included on a map of Switzerland (silver ink), at the bottom right on the stamp.
This bird has also been chosen to be featured on EUROPA 2019 stamps issued in Moldova, Liechtenstein, Bosnia and Herzegovina (Republika Srpska) and Romania.
The other stamp depicts a sanderling (Calidris alba), a small, lesser-known migratory bird, native to the Arctic tundra, observed around Swiss lakes (mainly in the northern part of Switzerland, see also the map on the stamp) during its migration to southern Europe and Africa, between the months of April and June.
Lastly, about half (25) of the countries or territories issuing EUROPA stamps this year, including Switzerland, are participating in the "Europa Bird Stamps 2019" project consisting in scanning the stamps (via a free CEE-Application) to listen to the birds singing.
