Le 4 novembre 2010, la Guernsey Post a mis en circulation pour Alderney (Aurigny en français) une série de 6 timbres + 1 bloc-feuillet consacrée au 150ème anniversaire de la naissance de James Matthew Barrie (1860-1937), plus connu sous la signature de JM Barrie, écrivain et dramaturge écossais, célèbre pour avoir créé le personnage de Peter Pan.
Pour rappel, Alderney est une île (2000 habitants) faisant partie du bailliage de Guernesey, située à 30 km au nord-ouest de Guernesey. A partir de 1983, des timbres spécifiques à Alderney ont été émis, valables toutefois sur tout le territoire du bailliage de Guernesey.
Le bloc-feuillet (3£) de cette série, conçue par le studio de graphisme et design "Two Degrees North" (basé à Guernesey) et imprimée en France par Cartor Security Printing, a été utilisé pour affranchir la lettre ci-dessous, envoyée le 1er avril 2019 d'Alderney.
On November 4, 2010, the Guernsey Post issued a series of 6 stamps + 1 souvenir sheet for Alderney, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of James Matthew Barrie (1860-1937), better known as JM Barrie, a Scottish writer and playwright, famous for creating the character of Peter Pan.
As a reminder, Alderney is an island (2000 inhabitants) being part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, located 30 km northwest of Guernsey. From 1983, specific stamps to Alderney were issued, valid however throughout the territory of the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
The souvenir sheet (£ 3.00) of this series, designed by the graphic design studio "Two Degrees North" (based in Guernsey) and printed in France by Cartor Security Printing, was used to stamp the letter below, sent on April 1, 2019 from Alderney.
En 1902, JM Barrie est devenu un dramaturge incontournable, en particulier grâce à 2 de ses pièces triomphant sur les scènes londoniennes (L'admirable Crichton et Quality Street).
Le personnage de Peter Pan apparaît pour la 1ère fois dans un roman fantaisiste intitulé "Le petit oiseau blanc" ("The Little White Bird").
Barrie développe ce personnage de Peter Pan pour créer la pièce de théâtre "Peter Pan, ou le garçon qui ne voulait pas grandir" dont la première eut lieu à Londres en 1904. La Fée Clochette (représentée dans la marge à gauche sur ce bloc-feuillet) fait également son apparition dans cette pièce.
Une version romanesque de Peter Pan, "Peter and Wendy" est publiée en 1911.
Peter Pan est représenté sur ce bloc-feuillet avec le Pays imaginaire (Neverland) dans le fond,ce pays auquel on accède en rêvant ou en volant, principalement accessible aux enfants, d'après l'œuvre de JM Barrie.
Les illustrations reproduites sur cette série sont inspirées d'un livre publié en 2006, créé par Geraldine McCaughrean, "Peter Pan in Scarlet", une sorte de suite moderne à ce "Peter and Wendy" de 1911.
In 1902, JM Barrie became a major playwright, particularly with two of his plays triumphing on London stages (The Admirable Crichton and Quality Street).
The character of Peter Pan appeared for the first time in a fantasy novel entitled "The Little White Bird".
Barrie developed Peter Pan's character to create the play "Peter Pan; or, The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up" which premiered in London in 1904. Tinkerbell (featured in the left margin on this sheet) is also appearing in this play.
A novel version of Peter Pan, "Peter and Wendy" was published in 1911.
Peter Pan is featured on this souvenir sheet with Neverland in the background, this fictional island that is accessed by dreaming or flying, mainly accessible to children, according to the work of JM Barrie.
The illustrations in this series are based on Geraldine McCaughrean's 2006 book, "Peter Pan in Scarlet", a kind of modern sequel to the 1911 "Peter and Wendy".
