La ville de Soroca, située à 160 km au nord de Chișinău, a été fondée en 1420 à un endroit où il y avait une douane entre la Moldavie et l'Ukraine.
En 1499, aux ordres du voïvode Étienne le Grand et le Saint (1457-1504), à la place d'une forteresse ancienne appelée Alciona, a été construite une forteresse en bois entourée de bastions de terre.
Entre 1543 et 1546, Petru Rareș, fils d'Étienne le Grand, a fait reconstruire la forteresse, de forme circulaire, en faisant appel à des artisans de Transylvanie, bons connaisseurs de l'architecture des fortifications de l'époque de la Renaissance.
Le 2 août 2018, la poste moldave a mis en circulation un TAD spécial consacré au 475ème anniversaire du début de la construction de cette forteresse de Soroca ("Cetatea Soroca").

In 1499, under the orders of the voivode Stephen the Great and the Saint (1457-1504), at the place of an ancient fortress called Alciona, was built a wooden fortress surrounded by bastions.

Nicolae a utilisé en haut à droite un des 2 timbres de la série "Découvrez la Moldavie" ("Descoperă Moldova") émise le 5 juillet 2018, consacré à cette forteresse de Soroca.
Cette forteresse, située au bord du fleuve Dniestr, a été laissée pratiquement à l'abandon pendant la période soviétique avant d'être restauré à partir de 2007 (jusqu'en 2013), en particulier la reconstruction des toits des tours pour les protéger des intempéries et le renforcement de la tour principale.
Cette forteresse figure également sur le timbre à 0,40 L ci-dessus, faisant partie d'une série émise le 2 juillet 2004 à l'occasion du 500ème anniversaire de la mort d'Étienne le Grand.

Nicolae used on the top right one of the 2 stamps of the series "Discover Moldova" ("Descoperă Moldova") issued on July 5, 2018, dedicated to this Soroca Fortress.
This fortress, located on the banks of the Dniester River, was left abandoned during the Soviet period before being restored from 2007 (until 2013), in particular the reconstruction of the roofs of the towers to protect them from bad weather and the reinforcement of the main tower.
This fortress is also featured in the L 0.40 stamp above, being part of a series issued on July 2, 2004, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Stephen the Great.

Le timbre à 8,50 roubles (puis 8,50 L depuis le 1er février 2006) fait partie d'une série de 4 timbres (conception : Pál Varga), émise le 20 juillet 1992, représentant un même motif d'avion supersonique, avec des couleurs différentes. L'autre timbre (0,35 rouble puis 0,35 L à partir du 1er février 2006) fait partie de la 1ère série courante moldave (5 timbres) émise le 24 mai 1992, représentant les armoiries du pays.
L'autre côté de cette carte ci-dessus (n° 3/2018, tirage : 1000, conception : Lilian Iațco) montre une vue actuelle de cette forteresse de Soroca, un des sites touristiques les plus visités de Moldavie.

The 8.50 rubles stamp (value of L 8.50 from February 1, 2006) is part of a series of four stamps (design: Pál Varga), issued on July 20, 1992, depicting the same supersonic aircraft, with different colors.
The other stamp (0.35 ruble then L 0.35 from February 1, 2006) is part of the first definitive Moldovan series (5 stamps) issued on May 24, 1992, depicting the country's coat of arms.
The other side of this card above (No 3/2018, print run: 1,000, design: Lilian Iaţco) shows a current view of this Soroca Fortress, one of the most visited tourist sites in Moldova.
