En novembre 2009, l'Assemblée générale des Nations Unies a proclamé le 18 juillet "Journée internationale Nelson Mandela" pour honorer la contribution de l'ancien Président sud-africain à la culture de la paix et de la liberté.
Selon l'APNU, "elle a ainsi reconnu les valeurs défendues par Nelson Mandela et son dévouement au service de l'humanité, dans les domaines du règlement des conflits, des relations entre les races, de la promotion et de la protection des droits de l'homme, de la réconciliation, de l'égalité entre les sexes, des droits des enfants et autres groupes vulnérables, et du progrès des communautés démunies et sous-développées. Elle salue également la contribution qu'il a apportée à la lutte pour la démocratie à l'échelle internationale et à la promotion d'une culture de paix dans le monde entier".
In November 2009, the United Nations General Assembly declared 18 July "Nelson Mandela International Day" in recognition of the former South African President"s contribution to the culture of peace and freedom.
According to the UNPA, "it has thus recognized Nelson Mandela's values and his dedication to the service of humanity in the fields of conflict resolution, race relations, the promotion and protection of human rights, reconciliation, gender equality and the rights of children and other vulnerable groups, as well as the support of poor and underdeveloped communities. It acknowledged his contribution to the struggle for democracy internationally and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world".
Cette année marque le 100ème anniversaire de la naissance de "Madiba", Nelson Mandela (1918-2013), probablement la figure politique la plus marquante du siècle dernier dans le monde et le bureau de Genève de l'APNU a mis en circulation, le 18 juillet 2018, un timbre courant (2 CHF) pour marquer cette Journée internationale Nelson Mandela.
C'est ce timbre (tirage : 260000, imprimé par Lowe-Martin Group en feuille de 20 timbres), incluant un magnifique portrait de Mandela par Martin Mörck,qui figure sur la lettre ci-dessus envoyée de Genève le 27 août 2018.
Une citation de Mandela est également incluse sur ce timbre : "Il est très facile de casser et de détruire. Les héros, ce sont ceux qui font la paix et qui bâtissent".

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of "Madiba", Nelson Mandela (1918-2013), probably the most prominent political figure of the last century in the world and the Geneva office of the UNPA put into circulation, on July 18, 2018, a definitive stamp (CHF 2.00) to mark this Nelson Mandela International Day.
It is that stamp (print run: 260,000, printed by Lowe-Martin Group in sheet of 20 stamps), including a magnificent portrait of Mandela by Martin Mörck, which was used on the letter above sent from Geneva on August 27, 2018.
A Mandela's quote is also included on that stamp (in French): "It is easy to break down and destroy. The heroes are those who make peace and build".
