L'administration postale d'Åland a obtenu son autonomie postale en 1984 et avait émis son premier timbre le 1er mars de la même année (drapeau alandais).
Mais elle n'a émis ses premiers timbres EUROPA qu'en 1994 (grandes découvertes) avec 2 timbres (idem en 1995 et 1996). Entre 1997 et 2015, un seul timbre EUROPA était émis chaque année.
Curieusement, l'année où PostEurop décide d'émettre un timbre commun (dans le cadre du 60ème anniversaire de l'émission des premiers timbres CEPT-EUROPA), la poste d'Åland a choisi d'émettre 2 timbres EUROPA, le 9 mai 2016 (Journée de l'Europe)...
Un de ces 2 timbres (tarif permanent "Europa" 20g - 1,30€, tirage : 140000) à été conçu à partir de ce dessin commun (auteur : Doxia Sergidou / poste chypriote) choisi parmi 24 projets, ayant pour thème l'écologie en Europe avec en particulier ce slogan "Think Green".
The postal administration of Aland got its independence in 1984 and issued its first stamp on March 1st of the same year (Aland flag).
But Aland issued its first ever EUROPA stamps only in 1994 (great discoveries) with two stamps (2 stamps issued also in 1995 and 1996). Between 1997 and 2015, only one EUROPA stamp was issued every year.
Curiously, the year when PostEurop decided to issue a joint stamp (as part of the 60th anniversary of the issue of the first CEPT-EUROPA stamps), the Post of Aland chose to issue two EUROPA stamps, on May 9, 2016 (Europe Day)...
One of these two stamps (permanent rate "Europa" 20g - € 1.30, print run : 140,000) was designed from this joint drawing (author : Doxia Sergidou / Cyprus Post) chosen among 24 projects, devoted to the theme of "Ecology in Europe" and in particular the slogan "Think Green".
C'est ce timbre qui figure à droite sur cette jolie lettre envoyée le 1er juillet 2016 de Mariehamn, la capitale de cet archipel (région autonome de Finlande) situé dans le golfe de Botnie, entre la Suède et la Finlande. Merci beaucoup Liisa !
Ce timbre illustre le rôle et la responsabilité de l'homme pour un avenir plus vert.
Le 2ème timbre EUROPA ci-dessus (tarif permanent "Europa" 20g - 1,30€, tirage : 140000), conçu par Carl-Johan Listherby, est une interprétation littérale de se slogan "Think Green" ("Tänk grönt" en suédois, la langue officielle à Åland) avec ce cerveau humain constituant la partie supérieure d'un arbre.
Je ne sais pas si ce timbre correspond à la contribution de Åland à ce concours organisé par PostEurop ?
Ces 2 timbres ont été imprimés par Cartor Security Printing en France, chacun en feuille de 32 timbres (avec 8 vignettes centrales).
It is that stamp which appears to the right on this nice cover sent on July 1, 2016 from Mariehamn, the capital of this archipelago (an autonomous region of Finland) located in the Gulf of Bothnia between Sweden and Finland. Thank you very much Liisa !

The 2nd EUROPA stamp above (permanent rate "Europa" 20g - € 1.30, print run : 140,000), designed by Carl-Johan Listherby, is featuring a literal interpretation of this slogan "Think Green" ("Tänk grönt" in Swedish, the official language in Åland) with this human brain constituting the upper part of a tree.
I don't know if that stamp corresponds to the contribution of Aland in this contest organized by PostEurop ?
