Voulu par le précédent émir du Qatar, Hamad ben Khalifa Al Thani, le village culturel de Katara a été inauguré en 2010 sur la côte est du pays.
Ce projet multiculturel vise à rassembler le plus grand nombre autour des arts et de la culture, à travers des installations dédiées comme un amphithéâtre, des salles de théâtre, un opéra (accueillant l'orchestre philharmonique du Qatar), des galeries pour les expositions...
Deux mosquées ont également été construites, la mosquée dorée (dans un style ottoman) et la mosquée de Katara.
Ces 2 lieux de culte, ainsi que l'entrée de l'amphithéâtre et des pigeonniers traditionnels, figurent dans la marge de ce bloc-feuillet ci-dessous.

Imprimé à 40000 exemplaires, ce bloc-feuillet est composé d'un timbre (5 Riyals) représentant un livre avec un léger relief.
Ce Prix littéraire Katara, en partenariat avec l'UNESCO, est un des prix les plus richement dotés au monde (650000$ au total, 200000$ pour le lauréat).
En 2015, ce Prix a récompensé l'auteur algérien Waciny Laredj pour son roman "Butterfly Kingdom".
Les 3 autres timbres (4 Riyals) ci-dessus font partie d'une série courante (9 timbres) émise le 17 décembre 2013 suite à l'arrivée au pouvoir de l'émir Tamim ben Hamad Al Thani, après l'abdication de son père.
This souvenir sheet was issued on January 18, 2015 on the occasion of the creation of the Katara Prize for Arabic Novel, initiated by this Katara Cultural Village ("Katara" refers to the historical name of Qatar, used before the 18th century).

This Katara Literary Prize, in partnership with UNESCO, is one of the richest Prizes in the world ($ 650,000 in total, $ 200,000 for the drama winner).
In 2015, this Prize was awarded to the Algerian author Waciny Laredj for his novel "Butterfly Kingdom".
The other 3 stamps (4 Riyals) above are part of a definitive series (9 stamps) issued on December 17, 2013 following the arrival in power of the Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, after the abdication of his father.
