Le prince Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun est né le 28 juillet 1952 alors que son père, le roi Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), était souverain du pays depuis 6 ans.
Le prince, désigné héritier du trône par son père en 1972, est le seul fils du couple royal, frère des 3 princesses Ubol Ratana Rajakanya, Maha Chakri Sirindhorn et Chulabhorn.
A noter que la princesse Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, très populaire dans son pays en particulier pour ses nombreux projets philanthropiques et humanitaires, aurait pu succéder à son père suite à la révision de la constitution thaïlandaise en 1974...
La popularité du prince est en effet bien moins importante que celle des autres membres de la famille royale, du fait de sa vie privée tapageuse, de son excentricité et de son manque d'engagement.

Membre de la dynastie Chakri qui règne depuis 1782, le prince Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun devient roi de Thaïlande le 1er décembre 2016 sous le nom de Rama X.
Âgé alors de 64 ans, il est le plus vieux souverain de la dynastie à accéder au trône.
Le 28 juillet 2019 (2019 correspondant à l'année 2562 dans le calendrier bouddhiste), la poste thaïlandaise a mis en circulation un timbre (10 baht) à l'occasion du 67ème anniversaire du roi Rama X, présent à droite sur le pli Premier Jour ci-dessus, avec TAD de Bangkok. Merci beaucoup Thapanaphong !
Rama X y est représenté en tenue d'apparat dans une salle du palais royal de Bangkok, également présent sur le 2ème timbre ci-dessus (10 baht) émis le 4 mai 2019 à l'occasion du couronnement du roi Rama X.
Le portrait du roi est imprimé (par Cartor Security Printing) en relief sur ce timbre, incluant également des parties imprimées avec une encre dorée (son monogramme en haut à gauche en particulier).
Ce timbre est oblitéré avec un TAD qui semble évoquer une exposition (philatélique ?) organisée jusqu'au 31 décembre 2019 au Grand Postal Building, l'édifice postal historique (inauguré en 1940) de la capitale thaïlandaise.
Member of the Chakri dynasty, ruling since 1782, Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun became King of Thailand on December 1, 2016 under the name of Rama X.
At the age of 64, he was the oldest ruler of the dynasty to accede to the throne.
On July 28, 2019 (2019 corresponding to the year 2562 in the Buddhist calendar), the Thai Post issued a stamp (10 Baht) on the occasion of the 67th birthday of King Rama X, a stamp present on the right on the First Day cover above, with cancellations from Bangkok. Thank you very much Thapanaphong!
Rama X is represented in ceremonial dress in a room of the Royal Palace of Bangkok, also present on the 2nd stamp above (10 Baht) issued on May 4, 2019 on the occasion of the coronation of King Rama X.
To note the embossed portrait of the king (printed by Cartor Security Printing) on this stamp, including also parts printed with a golden ink (his monogram at the top left in particular).
This stamp is canceled with a postmark that seems to evoke a (philatelic?) exhibition organized until December 31, 2019 at the Grand Postal Building, the historic postal building (inaugurated in 1940) of the Thai capital.
