Le 1er juillet 2019 (vente générale), la poste française a mis en circulation un très joli timbre consacré à Madame de Maintenon (1635-1719) à l'occasion du 300ème anniversaire de sa mort.
Ce timbre (1,05€, tirage : 700020), conçu par Eloïse Oddos, reprend la forme ovale du tableau reproduit, un portrait de Madame de Maintenon (Ecole française du 17ème siècle), exposé dans le château de Maintenon (Eure-et-Loir).
Sauf erreur, il s'agit du 3ème timbre de forme ovale émis en France après le timbre Rugby en 2011 et le timbre "Anne de France" en 2017...
La prévente de ce timbre avait lieu les 28 et 29 juin 2019 sur 3 sites : le château de Maintenon (Eure-et-Loir), le musée Bernard-d'Agesci à Niort (Deux-Sèvres) et le Carré d'Encre à Paris.
On July 1, 2019 (general sale), the French Post issued a very nice stamp dedicated to Madame de Maintenon (1635-1719) on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of her death.

Orpheline et sans le sous, elle épouse en 1652 (à seulement 16 ans) le poète burlesque Paul Scarron qui la laissera veuve à 25 ans. Cette union lui aura permis d'acquérir un solide bagage culturel.
En 1669, grâce à Madame de Montespan, maîtresse du roi Louis XIV, elle devient gouvernante des enfants illégitimes du roi, qui lui confère en 1675 le titre de Madame de Maintenon.
Après la mort de la reine Marie-Thérèse en 1683, Madame de Maintenon devient secrètement l'épouse du roi et aura une grande influence sur la fin de sa vie, l'encourageant à davantage de dévotion.

After the death of Queen Maria Theresa in 1683, Madame de Maintenon secretly became the king's wife and had a great influence on the end of his life, encouraging the king to be more devout.
En 1686, le roi Louis XIV finance à sa demande la création d'un pensionnat pour jeunes filles nobles dans le besoin, à Saint-Cyr. Madame de Maintenon s'y retire en 1715 après la mort du roi.

Ce TAD, conçu par Gilles Bosquet, représente une partie du château de Maintenon, construit au début du 16ème siècle dans un style Renaissance.
Madame de Maintenon devient propriétaire de ce château en 1674. Elle l'agrandit et l'embellit par de grands travaux financés par le roi, en particulier les jardins dessinés par André Le Nôtre.
Un timbre avait été émis en 1980 consacré à ce château de Maintenon.
In 1686, King Louis XIV financed at her request the creation of a school for poor girls of noble families, in Saint-Cyr. Madame de Maintenon retired there in 1715 after the death of the king.

This postmark, designed by Gilles Bosquet, represents a part of the Castle of Maintenon, built at the beginning of the 16th century in a Renaissance style.
Madame de Maintenon became the owner of this castle in 1674. She enlarged and embellished it with major works financed by the king, in particular the gardens designed by André Le Nôtre.
A French stamp was issued in 1980 devoted to this Castle of Maintenon.
