L'histoire de la fabrication de meubles en bois cintré (ou courbé) sur le territoire de la République tchèque remonte à 1861 lorsqu'une usine de fabrication a été créée par Michael Thonet (1796-1871) à Bystřice pod Hostýnem (Moravie, est du pays).
Michael Thonet était un ébéniste et industriel allemand-autrichien, inventeur d'un procédé pour courber le bois et est un des premiers à avoir rationalisé la production pour l'orienter vers l'industrie.
Michael Thonet ouvrira également une usine de fabrication dans la petite ville de Koryčany, également en Moravie, où avait lieu le Premier Jour d'émission (le 20 juin 2018) d'un nouveau timbre tchèque (19 CZK) consacré à cette tradition de la fabrication de meubles en bois courbé dans le pays, différents types de chaises en particulier.
The history of the manufacture of bent wooden furniture in the territory of the Czech Republic dates back to 1861 when a manufacturing plant was created by Michael Thonet (1796-1871) in Bystřice pod Hostýnem (Moravia, Eastern part of the country).
Michael Thonet was a German-Austrian cabinetmaker and industrialist, inventor of a wood-bending process and one of the first to have streamlined production to industry.
Michael Thonet also opened a manufacturing factory in the small town of Koryčany, also in Moravia, where was held the First Day of Issue (on June 20, 2018) of a new Czech stamp (19 CZK) dedicated to this tradition of manufacture of bent wood furniture in the country, different types of chairs in particular.

La gravure à gauche (par Bohumil Šneider) représente différents types de chaises en bois courbé, complétant celles déjà présentes sur le timbre, conçu par Pavel Sivko.
J'aime beaucoup la mise en page de ce timbre avec le nom du pays et la valeur faciale au centre et 4 modèles de chaises autour dont la chaise Thonet n°14 (en haut à gauche), véritable best-seller et icône du design mobilier industriel, avec des lignes simples et élégantes, qui aurait été vendue à plus de 50 millions d’exemplaires dans le monde entre 1859 et 1910.
La plupart de ces modèles de chaises créés par Michael Thonet sont exposés au Wien Museum Karlplatz en Autriche.

The engraving on the left (by Bohumil Šneider) represents different types of bent wooden chairs, completing those already present on the stamp, designed by Pavel Sivko.
I really like the layout of this stamp with the name of the country and the nominal value in the center and 4 models of chairs around including the chair Thonet No. 14 (top left), real bestseller and icon of the industrial furniture's design, with simple and elegant lines, which would have been sold to more than 50 million copies in the world between 1859 and 1910.
Most of these chair models created by Michael Thonet are on display at the Wien Museum Karlplatz in Austria.
Ce timbre a été imprimé en feuille de 50 timbres ainsi que dans un carnet (tirage : 14000) composé de 8 timbres et 4 vignettes (cf ci-dessus).
La couverture de ce carnet (ci-dessous) est intéressante car elle montre une illustration de cette même chaise n° 14 ainsi qu'un appareil utilisé pour courber le bois.
This stamp was printed in a sheet of 50 stamps as well as in a booklet (print run: 14,000) composed of 8 stamps and 4 coupons (above).
The cover of this booklet (below) is interesting because it shows an illustration of this same chair No. 14 and a device used to bend wood.
