Timbres "25 ans du Grand Orient de la Franc-Maçonnerie" sur FDC d'Uruguay
L'histoire de la franc-maçonnerie en Uruguay commence à la fin du 18ème siècle avec l'arrivée des premiers émigrants sur le territoire connu sous le nom de Bande Orientale.
Cette présence maçonnique a été accrue dès 1807 lors des invasions britanniques dans le Rio de la Plata, par la présence des loges militaires des régiments de Dragons irlandais. C'est en 1856 qu'est fondé officiellement le Grand Orient d'Uruguay avec une patente du Grand Orient du Brésil, qui deviendra postérieurement la Grande Loge de l'Uruguay.
Le Grand Orient de la Franc-Maçonnerie mixte d'Uruguay (G.O.F.M.U.) a été officiellement créé le 10 décembre 1998, date à laquelle a été célébré le 50ème anniversaire de la Déclaration universelle des Droits de l'Homme, ce qui a été l'aboutissement d'un processus de conjonction des volontés d'hommes et de femmes qui, venant de différentes origines, a voulu contribuer à une nouvelle façon de penser et de pratiquer la franc-maçonnerie en Uruguay, en accompagnant les grands changements que connaissait la franc-maçonnerie universelle au début du siècle et du millénaire.
The history of Freemasonry in Uruguay begins at the end of the 18th century with the arrival of the first emigrants to the territory known as the "Banda Oriental".
This Masonic presence was increased from 1807 during the British invasions in the Rio de la Plata, by the presence of the military lodges of the Irish Dragoon regiments. It was in 1856 that the Grand Orient of Uruguay was officially founded with a patent from the Grand Orient of Brazil, which later became the Grand Lodge of Uruguay.
The Grand Orient of Mixed Freemasonry of Uruguay (G.O.F.M.U.) was officially created on December 10, 1998, the date on which the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was celebrated, which was the culmination of a process of conjunction of the wills of men and women who, coming from different origins, wanted to contribute to a new way of thinking and practicing Freemasonry in Uruguay, accompanying the great changes that the universal Freemasonry was experiencing at the beginning of the century and the millennium.
La devise de cette obédience franc-maçonnique est celle forgée par les frères du siècle des lumières, "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" et celle de la maçonnerie libérale du temps présent, "Liberté absolue de conscience".
On retrouve ces 2 devises sur le timbre (32 pesos, tirage : 5000, conception : Eduardo Salgado) émis le 20 octobre 2023, célébrant le 25ème anniversaire de la création de ce Grand Orient de la Franc-Maçonnerie d'Uruguay.

Les symboles universels de la Franc-maçonnerie sont présents sur l'emblème de ce Grand Orient de la Franc-Maçonnerie d'Uruguay, en particulier l'équerre et le compas, représentant respevtivement la morale et la rectitude, et la tempérance et la maîtrise de ses désirs et émotions.
D'autres symboles comme le pavé mosaïque, la colonne J et la colonne B, représentant respectivement les colonnes de Jakin et de Boaz, qui étaient situées à l'entrée du Temple de Salomon selon la tradition maçonnique, figurent également sur cet emblème.
The motto of this Freemasonic obedience is that forged by the brothers of the Age of Enlightenment, "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" and that of liberal masonry of the present time, "Absolute freedom of conscience".

The universal symbols of Freemasonry are present on the emblem of this Grand Orient of Freemasonry of Uruguay, in particular the square and compasses, representing respectively morality and rectitude, and temperance and control over his desires and emotions.
Other symbols such as the mosaic pavement, column J and column B, representing respectively the columns of Jachin and Boaz, which were located at the entrance to the Temple of Solomon according to Masonic tradition, also appear on this emblem.
