"Dove of Peace" joint embroidered stamp on FDC from Barbados

We all wish to live in peace and yet we are often surrounded by conflict, in ourselves and our communities, or at the global level.
An international initiative is now sending a specific signal with the embroidered "Dove of Peace" stamp, to strengthen awareness of peace and solidarity.
T
he Post of Barbados is one of ten international postal administrations (Åland, Armenia, Austria, Barbados, Cyprus, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Switzerland) that have joined forces to design an exceptional stamp, finely embroidered with recycled polyester yarn, in collaboration with the United Nations (the three offices in New York, Geneva and Vienna), the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and the Austrian embroidery manufacturer Hämmerle & Vogel GmbH & Co KG.

The Barbadian version of this stamp (2.20 BBD, unknown print run) was used on the official FDC above with cancellation of December 8, 2025.
The dove, a universal symbol of peace, hope, and understanding, was deliberately chosen as the central motif to convey a clear message across borders.
More than just a limited-edition collectible, this stamp is also intended as a symbolic reminder: peace is not self-evident; it requires daily effort and personal commitment comparable to the patience and care required to design each embroidered stamp.
The "Dove of Peace" stamp sends a simple yet powerful, unifying message across borders: peace begins with the small gestures made by each of us.

Culture, religion, Covid-19 and relations with Barbados stamps on cover from Colombia

Many thanks Camilo for this lovely cover sent on January 7, 2025 from Cali, the 3rd largest city of Colombia!
The stamp on the top right (10,000 COP, print run: 150,000) was issued on August 26, 2020 and dedicated to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in the country. The virus was first detected on March 6, 2020 in the country and to date, 6.4 million people have been infected and nearly 143,000 have died. A vaccination campaign began on February 17, 2021 and nearly 70% of the population has been fully vaccinated (with 2 doses).
The stamp on the top left (500 COP, print run: 40,000), issued on July 27, 2024, commemorates 100 years of presence of the Jesuits (Society of Jesus), a male Catholic congregation founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola in 1539, in the country.
The Saint Joseph Chapel, located in the San José farm, in Alto de los Padres, acquired in 1909 by Jesuit Father Zoilo Arjona, is depicted in the background on this stamp as well as a coffee plant, symbolizing the important agricultural contribution of the Jesuits in the country. A stained glass window (Temple of the Sacred Heart) depicting Saint Ignatius of Loyola is also featured on this stamp.

The two se-tenant stamps (2,000 COP) are part of a souvenir sheet (4 different stamps, print run: 30,000) issued on December 18, 2023 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Colombia and Barbados. The two countries officially established these relations on February 1, 1972.
These two stamps illustrate respectively Harrison's Cave (first mentioned in 1795, rediscovered in the 1970s), a tourist attraction in Barbados that can be visited aboard a small tram, and the Nemocón Salt Mine in Colombia. 80 meters underground, visitors travel through 1,600 meters of galleries from which, between 1816 and 1968, 8 million tons of salt were extracted. The 28 brine mirrors in which the salt rocks were dissolved are striking, as they produce an impressive optical effect.
The last two identical stamps above (1,000 COP, print run: 60,000), issued on October 19, 2024, are dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Jorge Eliécer Gaitán Theater, located in Bogota. It was founded in 1940 under the name Teatro Colombia before taking its current name in 1973, in an Art Deco building.
Jorge Eliécer Gaitán (1898-1948) was a Colombian politician from the middle class and very popular in his time. Mayor of Bogota and minister, he was one of the first in Colombia to talk about social policy, wishing in particular to democratize culture, nationalize education and improve the working conditions of workers.

"Builders of the Nation" stamps on cover from Barbados

As part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the independence of the country, the Postal Administration of Barbados put into circulation, on January 18, 2016, a series (14 stamps) entitled "Builders of the Nation" with in particular 10 stamps dedicated to the National Heroes of this Caribbean island.
Four stamps from this series were used to stamp the nice letter below, sent on June 25, 2019 from the Worthing Post Office, located in the south of Bridgetown, the capital. Thank you very much Tristan!
The first stamps bearing the mention "Barbados" were issued between 1852 and 1858 ("Britannia" series).
Barbados obtained self-government from the United Kingdom in 1961 and became independent within the Commonwealth on 30 November 1966.

Contrary to many other Caribbean islands, the postage stamp policy of Barbados is very reasonable (a maximum of 5 sets each year) and only concerns local themes.
The title "National Hero" was created in 1998 by the Barbados Parliament through the "Order of the National Heroes Act" and awarded to 10 Barbadian personalities who have played a key role in the country's history, such as Bussa (5c stamp), symbol of the fight against slavery.
Bussa led a revolt of 400 slaves in 1816 against the colonial authorities, a rebellion that failed but deeply marked the inhabitants (the abolition of slavery took place in 1838).
Samuel Jackman Prescod (1806-1871), depicted on the $ 1.50 stamp, was a Barbadian politician and judge, who was the first descendant of African migrants to be elected to the Barbados parliament in 1843.
Charles Duncan O'Neal (1879-1936), depicted on the $ 1 stamp, was a physician and a political figure in Barbados, founder of the Radical Democratic League in 1924.
The last stamp above (25c) is devoted to Sir Frank Walcott (1916-1999), a trade unionist and politician who played a key role in the organization of the Barbados labor movement.
Walcott was a member of the Barbados Assembly, representing the Democratic Labor Party between 1945 and 1966, and from 1971 to 1976. He was also President of the Senate between 1986 and 1992.
After the independence of Barbados in 1966, Walcott was the first ambassador of the country to the United Nations.
