Clay figurines and common quail stamps on postcard from Uzbekistan (Samarkand)

On March 7, 2022, the Post of Uzbekistan (Oʻzbekiston) put into circulation a series (4 se-tenant stamps, with year "2021") dedicated to the country's traditional applied arts, in particular the art of clay figurines.
One of these 4 stamps (design: Kaneves Ye., print run: 8,000), value 4,200 UZS, was used on this postcard sent on June 9, 2023 from the city of Samarkand. Thank you very much Terence!
Samarkand (UNESCO World Heritage since 2001) is one, with Bukhara, of the oldest inhabited cities in Central Asia. Located on the Silk Road, between China and the Mediterranean, it was one of the largest cities.
Founded in the 7th century B.C. as ancient Afrasiab, Samarkand had its most significant development in the Timurid period from the 14th to the 15th centuries. The major monuments include the Registan Mosque and madrasas, Bibi-Khanum Mosque, the Shakhi-Zinda compound and the Gur-Emir ensemble, as well as Ulugh-Beg's Observatory.

Crafts and folk traditions give Uzbekistan its unique character and attract tourists from different countries. Uzbekistan is particularly known to lovers of art pottery. One of the unique features of applied art is called "souvenirs", that is, small clay figures.
These figurines wear vibrant national costumes and look nothing alike and are smiling, referencing the Uzbek people's love of bright colors and decorations.
They are always made in a composition - with bread, a teapot, watermelon or fruit, with musical instruments...
The other stamp above (1,600 UZS, print run: 2,000,000, design: Kanevets E.), issued on February 5, 2020, is part of a definitive series dedicated to different species of birds living on the territory of Uzbekistan, the common quail (Coturnix coturnix) here.

"Fauna of Uzbekistan - Cats" stamp set on cover from Uzbekistan

On October 26, 2021, the Post of Uzbekistan (Oʻzbekiston) put into circulation a series (2 stamps) dedicated to fauna and in particular to two breeds of domestic cats ("mushuk" in Uzbek).
These two stamps (illustrator: Mulla-Akhunov D., print run: 8,000 each), printed in the same sheetlet consisting of 8 stamps (4 of each), have been used on this cover sent on June 7, 2023 from Tashkent, the capital. Thank you very much Terrence!
The two breeds featured here are Persian (7600 UZS) and Bengal (5900 UZS) cats.

The Persian cat is a long-haired breed originating from Iran, with a rounded silhouette and a very short muzzle on its head. Recognized since the end of the 19th century, this breed was first modified by the British, then mainly in the USA after the Second World War. This breed is the most sold in the world.
The Bengal cat is a breed originating from the USA, medium to large in size, characterized by its fur resembling that of the Bengal leopard cat, a species of wild cat from which it is descended, by crossbreeding with domestic cats.

"Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympics" stamp set on cover from Uzbekistan

Very happy to share with you this interesting cover from Uzbekistan (O'zbekiston in Uzbek) sent on May 30, 2017 from Tashkent (Toshkent in Uzbek), the capital of the country, franked with the series of two stamps, issued on May 23, 2016, devoted to the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Rio 2016. Thank you very much Shukhrat!
Uzbekistan, independent since 1991, is located in Central Asia and has the distinction of being one of the only two doubly landlocked countries in the world. I let you find the 2nd one...
Uzbekistan has participated in the Summer Olympic Games since 1996 (Atlanta) and the Summer Paralympic Games since 2004 (Athens).

These 2 stamps (1900 et 2100 so'm, design : E. Kanavets, print run : 8,000) were designed from photographs showing an Olympic weightlifting event (Uzbek athlete Ivan Efremov is featured here at the London Olympics in 2012) and a Paralympic athletics event (triple jump, who is this athlete?).
At the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the Uzbek team (70 athletes in 15 sports) achieved the best result in its history with 13 medals won including 4 gold medals (in boxing and weightlifting).
The country won 31 medals at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, including 8 gold medals (in athletics, judo and swimming).
The logo of the Uzbek National Olympic Committee is included at the top left on the 1900 so'm stamp, designed from the Khumo, the legendary sacred bird, symbol of happiness and generosity, also present on the coat of arms of the country.

2200 ans de la capitale Ouzbek

2200th Anniversary of Tashkent

The Post of Uzbekistan has commemorated the 2200th anniversary of the founding of the city of Tashkent, capital of the country, by issuing on August 17, 2009 a series of eight stamps.
One of these eight stamps in included on the nice cover below specially issued to celebrate this anniversary.
Thank you very much Marat :-)

This letter was mailed on August 29, 2009, the day when a special cancellation was issued. This blue postmark below is depicting the new clock tower, built to celebrate these 2200 years near another oldest tower clock, built in 1947 to honor the 500,000 Uzbek deaths during the 2nd World War...

What a pity that an other classical postmark has also been applied on the stamp :-(
The monument depicted in the lower left commemorates the country's independence in 1991. The imposing building represented on the right (the Uzbek flag fleeting in the top) houses the city administration of Tashkent, including the mayor's office.
The stamp (350 sums) shows the building with its distinctive blue dome, housing the Amir Timur (Tamerlane) Museum since 1996 , also called the State Museum of History of the Timurid Dynasty (1370-1526).
Tamerlane, born near Samarkand in 1336, was a fearsome warlord using force and terror to build a huge empire in Central Asia. He was also a patron of arts and letters that made the greatness of his capital Samarkand.

Here is above all the eight stamps issued in a beautiful souvenir sheet. The bottom margin of this sheet and one of the stamps evoke the legendary Silk Road and the excavations of Shash-Tepa.
The other stamps depict different other major monuments of Tashkent, including the buildings of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate, the International Business Center, the Turkiston palace or the Mausoleum of Hazrati Imom Barakhon Madrasah...
It's worth noting that, probably because of a few historical traces, the USSR had commemorated the 2000th anniversary of the city of Tashkent by issuing a special stamp...in 1983 !

Journée internationale des enfants

International Children's Day

Merci beaucoup Marat :-)
On June 1, 2009 was celebrated the International Children's Day. I've to admit that this Day went unfortunately rather unnoticed in my country, which had commemorated the Women's Day earlier this year.
It seems that this international Day was commemorated on stamps in some countries.
This is the case in Uzbekistan where were issued on June 1, 2009 a series of six commemorative stamps and a special cancellation.
Two of these six stamps are included on the pretty cover below mailed from Tashkent.
Thank you very much Marat :-)

The Uzbek Post had in fact organized between March 26th and April 26th 2009, a national drawing competition among school children all over the country. From the 1014 pre-selected drawings, the three first prizes in both categories (5 to 10 years and 10 to 14 years) have been reproduced on these stamps.
This contest's theme was "the world through children's eyes". The two winners stamps above are entitled "Respect" and "Peace Dove".
They were cancelled with the special postmark issued with the words "International Protection of Children's Day" in Uzbek.
I like the unusual blue ink and the simple drawing showing a boy and a girl taking preciously our planet in their hands...

The Moldovan Post has also commemorated this June 1st's Day with the issue of a series of three stamps also depicting children's drawings.
This set, entitled "A healthy environment for Children" is also the result of a competition organized by the Moldovan association "Environment and Health".
One of these three stamps is included on the very colorful FDC above.
Thank you very much Sergio :-)
This L 5.00 stamp, reproducing a drawing by Irina Simion (13 years), has been issued with a surcharge of L 0.20 in favor of the "Environment and Health" association.
It's worth noting the three different postmarks on this letter : a nice FDC cancellation devoted to this set of stamps, a standard postmark from Chisinau and an other postmark specifically issued to commemorate the International Children's Day.

Here is above the other side of this cover (total print run : 30,000 copies) which allows us to see more clearly the special cancellation about this International Children's Day ("Ziua internaţională a copilului" in Moldovan).
Note the similarities with the cancellation issued by the Post of Uzbekistan, with this child also protecting a globe :-)

To conclude, Sergio was kind enough to include in his letter the 2nd maxicard issued as part of the Moldovan EUROPA set on May 7th 2009.
I've already published in a previous post the FDC with the two stamps of this series and the first maxiacrd with the "Galileo Galilei" stamp.
The card above (print run : 2,000 copies), is therefore concerning the 2nd stamp devoted to the Moldovan astrophysicist Nicolae Donici (1874-1956), whose main works were focused on the solar spectrum, comets and the planet Saturn, depicted at the top right on this card.
I'm not an expert, I suppose that the telescope shown above is a recent's one ?

2ème lettre d'Ouzbekistan !

My 2nd cover from Uzbekistan !

A national honor to the military forces of Uzbekistan with this new cover received a few days ago...
Marat thank you very much :-)
Since January 14 1992, more than four months after independence, the various armed divisions spread over the territory of Uzbekistan are under the jurisdiction of the state.
On January 14 1994, this day became the "National Day of the Defenders of the Homeland" ("Vatan Himoyachilari Kuni" in Uzbek).
Marat was kind enough to post his letter in Tashkent on last January 14 2009, when a blue special commemorative postmark was issued to celebrate that day !

To stay in the same topic, Marat chose two stamps issued on August 24 2001 in celebration of the ten years of independence of Uzbekistan.
The Post of Uzbekistan issued no fewer than 15 sets of stamps and/or miniature sheets to this occasion, each referring to different themes : agriculture, architecture, culture, sport...and military forces of course !
The two large stamps above have been extracted from the souvenir sheet of 8 stamps and one central vignette below, representing mainly different military exercises.

The last small stamp (200 sum) is part of the definitive series, begun in 2006, devoted to architecture. This stamp issued in 2008 depicts a theater (which one ?) certainly located in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent...

Ma 1ère lettre d'Ouzbékistan !

My First Cover from Uzbekistan !

Very pleased to show you today my first cover from Uzbekistan !
Thank you very much Marat for this interesting FDC mailed on 08/08/08, devoted to the 29th Olympic Games of Beijing (Pekin in Uzbek) :-)
Uzbekistan (O'zbekiston in Uzbek), independent since 1991, is located in Central Asia and has the particularity of being one of the two double-landlocked countries in the world. Which is the other country...
Note the unusual blue FDC cancellation affixed in Tashkent (Toshkent in Uzbek), the country's capital.
But why did the Uzbek Post affixe this other classic postmark, also dated 08/08/08 ???

Let's speak about the stamps now.
They are part of a set of four stamps representing four different sporting events among the 15 in which were competed the 58 athletes of the Uzbekistan olympic team.
The two stamps above represent judo (150 sum) and boxing (200 sum), the two others in the series are devoted to athletics and rhythmic gymnastics.
These four stamps seem to represent real athletes, maybe you'll recognize them ?
Good draw for judo because among the 6 medals won by Uzbekistan in Beijing, two medals were won in this sport ! The four other medals were won in wrestling, artistic gymnastics and trampoline (bronze medal for Ekaterina Khilko, the first Uzbek woman to win an Olympic medal in summer Olympic Games since independence).
Finally, on each stamp, and on the special cancellation, is included the logo of the Uzbek National Olympic Committee, whose symbol is the Khumo, the legendary holy bird, symbol of happiness and generosity... This bird also appears on the country's coat of arms.
