Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay and Shenzhen 2011 Summer Universiade on cover from China

On March 24, 2008, China Post issued a two-stamp series dedicated to the Olympic torch relay. The relay began—as is customary—in Olympia, Greece, on March 25, 2008, and concluded 130 days later, on August 8, 2008, in Beijing during the opening ceremony of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad.
The tradition of the Olympic torch relay dates back to the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.
The 2008 Olympic flame traveled through more than 130 cities across five continents (including Paris on April 7), covering a total distance of nearly 137,000 kilometers. During its journey, the Olympic torch was notably carried to the "Roof of the World," Mount Everest.
One of the two stamps in the series (a 3-yuan stamp) appears to depict the silhouette of Mount Everest with the Olympic torch in the foreground.
The Olympic torch, the shape of which is inspired by traditional Chinese scrolls, features a pattern known as the "auspicious cloud," commonly found on ancient pottery. Designed by the Lenovo Group and made from an aluminum-magnesium alloy, it weighs slightly less than 1 kg and measures 72 cm in length.

These two stamps (designed by Wang Huming), which were also issued as part of a souvenir sheet, have been used on the right side of the cover above, sent from Beijing on May 25, 2026. Many thanks, Ruinan!
The other stamp (1.20 yuan) depicts Huānhuan—one of the five mascots (*Fuwa*) of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, associated with the element of fire—carrying the Olympic flame, with the lighting ceremony in Olympia shown in the background.
The other two pairs of stamps on the left (designed by Xiao Yong) were issued on May 4, 2011, to announce the 26th Summer Universiade, held in Shenzhen from August 12 to 23, 2011.
The Universiade's logo, known as "Happy U," is featured on the bottom-right stamp (1.20 yuan) and appears in a smaller size on all four stamps; it consists of a dynamic "U" shape made of multicolored dots, evoking an open, welcoming cup.
The Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center stadium, inaugurated in 2011 for the event, is depicted on the top-right stamp (1.20 yuan); the stadium hosted the football and athletics competitions.
The mascot "UU"—a smiling "U" figure—appears on one of these four stamps (1.20 yuan), while the final stamp features the event's motto, "Start Here," alongside an image of a torch.
At this Summer Universiade—an international multi-sport event organized every two years by the International University Sports Federation (FISU)—China dominated the medal table by a wide margin, securing a total of 146 medals ahead of Russia, South Korea, and Japan.

"Slender West Lake" prepaid postcard sent from Yangzhou, China

The Grand Canal (site inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2014), vast waterway system in the north-eastern and central-eastern plains of China, is running from Beijing in the north to Zhejiang province in the south, over a length of approximately 1800 km.
Constructed in sections from the 5th century BC onwards, it was conceived as a unified means of communication for the Empire for the first time in the 7th century AD (Sui dynasty). This led to a series of gigantic construction sites, creating the world's largest and most extensive civil engineering project prior to the Industrial Revolution.
It formed the backbone of the Empire's inland communication system, transporting grain and strategic raw materials, and supplying rice to feed the population.
By the 13th century it consisted of more than 2,000 km of artificial waterways, linking five of China's main river basins. It has played an important role in ensuring the country's economic prosperity and stability and is still in use today as a major means of communication.

Slender West Lake, the most famous park in Yangzhou (a city in central Jiangsu Province), is located in the western suburbs of the city and is a stretch of river connected to the Grand Canal, which was dug during the Sui Dynasty (581-618). Centuries before that, it was already a place of leisure.
Slender West Lake, which meanders for five kilometers, resembles a long series of prestigious sites: the Long Dam, Xu Garden, the Golden Mound, the Terrace of the Flutes, the Moon Pavilion, the Lotus Bridge, and the White Pagoda.
Many thanks to Wenbo for sending this prepaid postcard (2017 - 0.80 yuan) on February 25, 2026, from Yangzhou, dedicated to this Slender West Lake.
Wenbo used two other stamps, from series entitled  "Special-use stamps for greeting cards", issued respectively on August 8, 2013 (Brilliant, 1.20 yuan, design: Yue Xin) and May 19, 2015 (Backpackers, 3 yuan, design: Song Jian, Liu Jing).

Above is the other side of this postcard, showing a view of this Slender West Lake. In the background on the right is the Wuting Bridge, also known as the Lotus Bridge, one of Yangzhou's iconic landmarks.
It is one of China's Ten Great Ancient Bridges and is nicknamed "China's Most Beautiful Bridge." Its construction began during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty (1757), inspired by the Five Dragon Pavilions of Beihai in Beijing.
In the background on the left is the Lianxing Temple (or White Pagoda), a white Buddhist temple in the Tibetan style. Founded in the 13th or 14th century during the Yuan Dynasty, it was renamed Lianxing Temple in the 17th or 18th century under the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing Dynasty.

This lake was popularized in the poem "On Baozhang Creek", written in 1736 by the Hangzhou native Wang Hang (1704-1784) during a visit to Yangzhou.

Many thanks to Wenbo for sending this prepaid postcard (2019 - 0.80 yuan) on February 23, 2026, from the Grand Canal Museum, which opened in 2021 in Yangzhou, a city in central Jiangsu Province.
This modern museum (with over 4 million visitors annually), dedicated to the Grand Canal heritage site and located in Sanwan Wetland Park, has as its main missions the preservation of cultural heritage, scientific research, exhibition, and public awareness.
I assume that the two illustrated postmarks on the left side of this postcard were applied at this Museum.
The pre-printed stamp depicts the Five-Pavilion Bridge, also known as the Lotus Bridge, spanning the waterway of West Thin Lake and one of the iconic structures of Yangzhou. It is listed among the Ten Great Ancient Bridges of China and is nicknamed the "Most Beautiful Bridge in China". Its construction began during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty (1757), inspired by the Five Dragon Pavilions of Beihai in Beijing.
Wenbo used two other stamps, one of which is part of a "Special Stamps for Greeting Cards" series issued on May 19, 2015 (backpackers, 3 yuan, design: Song Jian, Liu Jing).
The stamp on the left (1.20 yuan, design: Liu Xiangpin) is part of a series (3 stamps) issued on May 12, 2007, dedicated to various mausoleums of emperors of the Qing and Ming dynasties, particularly the Xiaoling Tomb here, the tomb of the first Ming emperor, Hongwu, who ruled China from 1368 to 1398, and Empress Xiaoci, located east of Nanjing.

Above is the other side of this postcard, featuring an artistic depiction of Shaobo Lake, formerly known as Wuguang Lake, located in Yangzhou.
In ancient times, it was part of the Thirty-six Weirs and has long been praised with the verse, "The sails of the thirty-six weirs have all vanished, leaving only the lake's radiant glow".
Shaobo Lake is one of the lakes located on the Huai River's outflow channel into the Yangtze River. The lake stretches 17 kilometers in length, with a maximum width of 6 kilometers. This lake provides benefits for flood regulation, irrigation, and aquaculture. Benefiting from its rich Grand Canal culture, its tourism value is increasingly prominent.

"Coastal Landscapes" joint stamp set with Cuba, on cover from China

On September 28, 1960, Cuba became the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. This opened new prospects for friendship between China and Latin American countries.
Bilateral relations are based on trade, credit, and investment, which have increased significantly since the 1990s. China is now Cuba's second-largest trading partner after Venezuela.
On September 26, 2000, the postal administrations of China and Cuba issued a joint set (two stamps) to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of these diplomatic relations.
The Chinese version of this series (2 x 0.80 yuan, design: Li Defu) was used on the right of the cover below, sent on January 24, 2026, from Beijing. Thank you very much, Ruinan!
This series illustrates coastal landscapes of the two countries: the coconut grove bay on Hainan Island (left) and the Varadero seafront (right).
Located on Cuba's northern coast, Varadero is a popular resort town, one of the largest in the Caribbean, frequented primarily by Canadian and European tourists.

Ruinan used four other stamps, including one (1.50 yuan, design: Du Yukai) from a set of five stamps issued on September 17, 2017, dedicated to various scientific and technological innovation projects, the Chinese pilot research and development project on the Bohai region's breadbasket, launched on April 10, 2013 here, which aims to increase agricultural production in the provinces of Hebei, Shandong, Liaoning, and Tianjin.
The stamp on the left (1 yuan, design: Zou Jianjun) is from a series of four stamps issued on August 22, 1996, dedicated to the Western Xia necropolis (dynasty between 1032 and 1227), located at the foot of the Helan Mountains in the Ningxi Autonomous Region. This site contains nine mausoleums and approximately 250 tombs of important figures. This stamp notably depicts a remnant stele discovered in Shouling.
The other 1-yuan stamp (design: Zhu Zhengeng) is part of a series (4 stamps) issued on May 15, 1993, dedicated to democratic patriots who had long collaborated with the Communist Party and participated in the anti-Japanese and anti-Chiang Kai-shek revolutionary process, the struggle for peace and democracy, the overthrow of the Kuomintang (KMT), and the establishment of the People's Republic of China. This stamp features a portrait of Huang Yanpei (1878-1965), an educator, industrialist, politician, and pioneering founder of the Democratic League of China.
The last stamp (1.50 yuan, design: Wang Huming) is part of a series (6 stamps) issued on July 29, 2017, dedicated to representations of the phoenix on Chinese cultural relics, a blue and white porcelain pot decorated with phoenixes and peonies (made during the reign of Daoguang, Qing dynasty) here.

"Beijing 2008 Olympic Games / Olympex" stamp set on cover from China

As part of the Summer Olympic Games held in Beijing from August 8 to 24, 2008, Olympex - the largest exhibition of stamps, coins, souvenirs, and collectibles related to the Olympic Games - opened on August 7, 2008, at the Beijing Exhibition Center.
A collaborative effort between the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Beijing 2008 Organizing Committee, the Chinese Olympic Committee, and the China Postal Administration, this exhibition was a highlight of the Games' cultural program.
On August 8, 2008, the China Post issued a series (2 stamps + 1 souvenir sheet, design: Ma Gang) commemorating the opening of Olympex
The two stamps from this series (1,20 yuan, design: Ma Gang) have been used on the cover below, sent from Beijing on October 30, 2025. Thank you so much Ruinan!

The date "20080808" appears on the right of these two stamps, recalling the start of this competition.
The date of August 8, 2008, and the time of the opening ceremony's broadcast, 8:08 PM (local time), were chosen to incorporate as many eights as possible, as this number is considered lucky in China.

These two stamps reproduce old stamps with an Olympic theme, issued respectively by Greece (March 25, 1896, reconstructed statue of the Victory of Paionios, Archaeological Museum of Olympia) and by Portugal (May 22, 1928, to announce the Amsterdam Olympic Games).
Ruinan used, on the left, a series (2 stamps, 1.20 yuan, design: Shang Yu), issued on February 18, 2009, dedicated to the 24th Winter Universiade (logo and mascot Dongdong), an international university multi-sport competition held from February 17 to 28, 2009, in Harbin, China. A total of 1,658 athletes from 44 nations participated in the various events (12 sports), with China topping the medal standings ahead of Russia and South Korea.
The last stamp (1.20 yuan) is part of a series (four stamps, designed by Hu Fuzong) issued on June 24, 2018, entitled "Integrity and Probity," illustrating the exemplary actions of incorruptible and disciplined officials in ancient China through four historical scenes.
This stamp, "Issuing a Proclamation to Refuse Gifts", depicts a story set in the early Qing Dynasty. Yu Chenglong was a famous official in the early Qing Dynasty. During his 24 years of serving as an official, he won deep love and respect from the people and high praise from Emperor Kangxi for his outstanding political achievements and his life of being incorruptible and hardworking.
One Mid-Autumn Festival, the magistrate of Daming County privately sent a valuable gift to him. Yu Chenglong not only resolutely refused it on the spot but also issued a public notice titled Proclamation on Strictly Banning Gift-Giving, sternly ordering all subordinate officials not to give gifts or offer bribes. He warned that anyone who violated this rule again would not be forgiven...

Stamps for greeting cards on "World Heritage" prepaid card from China

Many thanks to Wenbo for sending this interesting prepaid postcard on February 23, 2026, from Yangzhou (located in central Jiangsu Province)!
I don't know the exact date (presumably in 2009) when this postcard, which includes a pre-printed stamp (0.80 yuan) reproducing the UNESCO World Heritage logo, was put into circulation.
This postcard focuses specifically on the Guangling King's Tomb Museum (Han Dynasty) in Yangzhou.
Hanling Garden, also known as the imperial tomb of Guangling King, is a leading national tourist destination in China. Inside are the well-preserved tombs of Liu Xu, the first Guangling King of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC–AD 24), and his queen, and their wooden coffins.
This tomb is called an "underground palace" for its large scale, the most complicated structure and the most excellent workmanship among similar tombs in China.

The Guangling Commandery was a historical commandery in China, existing from the Han to the Tang dynasties, located in what is now Jiangsu Province, on the central coast of China.
It took its name from Guangling, the ancient name for Yangzhou. At the beginning of the Han dynasty, the commandery was known as Dongyang and was successively part of the Kingdom of Wu and then the Kingdom of Jiangdu. In 121 BC, Jiangdu was abolished, and Guangling became a commandery. In 117 BC, Guangling was granted to Liu Xu, son of the reigning Emperor Wu, and established as a kingdom. Liu Xu and his descendants ruled Guangling until Wang Mang usurped power.
Also noteworthy on the left is the special red cachet depicting a tortoise-shaped royal seal (presumably that of King Liu Xu).

The imposing entrance to this Guangling King's Tomb Museum is shown on the other side of this card above.
In particular, the two magnificent gate towers ("que") that stand on the platform are clearly visible.

Common in front of ancient palaces, temples, and tombs, they are usually arranged on either side, with a central platform on which a watchtower is built. These two towers are often called the "mother-and-son gate towers."

"50 Years of Diplomatic Relations" joint stamp set with Samoa, on FDC from China

Merci beaucoup Ruinan !
The People's Republic of China and Samoa enjoy a long-standing friendship. Over a century ago, Chinese settlers in Samoa actively contributed to local development.
Samoa was the first Pacific island nation to gain independence and among the first to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China in 1975. Since then, the two countries have maintained mutual respect, equal treatment, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of these diplomatic relations, the postal administrations of both countries issued a joint series (two stamps) on November 6, 2025. The stamps depict endemic bird species, highlighting the exceptional natural beauty of both nations and symbolizing the strong foundations and promising future of their bilateral friendship.
The Chinese version of this series (2 x 1.20 yuan, design: Wang Guozheng) was used on the left on the cover below, sent on the First Day of Issue from Beijing. Thank you so much Ruinan!

The top stamp depicts a white eared pheasant (Crossoptilon crossoptilon), a bird species in the Phasianidae family native to southwestern China, particularly Tibet. A protected species emblematic of the Mo'ersi bird habitat in Danba, Sichuan, this bird has become a symbol of Danba's natural ecology. The plateau's unique climate and favorable environment provide it with an ideal habitat.
The other stamp depicts a tooth-billed pigeon (Didunculus strigirostris), belonging to the Columbidae family. Endemic to Samoa (living in the Dysoxylum forests of Savai'i, Upolu, and Nuʻutele islands), this critically endangered bird is not only an important member of the local ecosystem but also a symbol of Samoan natural and cultural heritage.
Ruinan also used the series (4 stamps, 1.20 yuan each, design: Ma Lihang) issued on May 18, 2025, dedicated to rare cultural relics discovered along the Overland Silk Road, from west to east, respectively (from left to right) a convex-nailed glass bowl from the Northern Zhou Dynasty (Guyuan Museum of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region), a silver plate decorated with divine figures from the Northern and Southern Dynasties (Gansu Provincial Museum), a silk arm guard from the Han Dynasty bearing the inscription "Five Stars Rise in the East, Benefiting China" (Museum of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region) and a Tang Dynasty mural depicting a foreign merchant leading a camel laden with silk (Luoyang Ancient Tombs Museum).

"Beijing 2008 Olympic Games - Mascots" stamp set on cover from China

To promote the Summer Olympics held in Beijing from August 8 to 24, 2008, the Chinese postal administration issued several series of stamps between 2001 and 2008, including one (six stamps) issued on August 8, 2007, depicting various Olympic sports practiced by the five official mascots of the Games.
These six stamps (1.20 yuan, design: Ma Gang), featuring the official logo of the Beijing 2008 Games in the upper left corner, have been used on the cover below, sent on November 29, 2025, from Beijing. Thank you very much, Ruinan!
The Fuwa ("good-luck dolls") were the official mascots of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, unveiled on November 11, 2005, marking the 1000th day before the opening of the Games.

Each of the five Fuwa represents the color of one of the five Olympic rings, and their headdress evokes a natural element: Bèibei (diving) is a blue mascot in the form of a fish, representing water sports and the sea; Jīngjing (shooting and weightlifting) is a black mascot in the form of a panda, representing combat sports and the forest; Huānhuan (BMX) is a red mascot in the form of the Olympic flame, representing ball sports and fire; Yíngying (pole vault) is a yellow mascot in the form of a Tibetan antelope, representing athletics and the earth; and Nīni (volleyball) is a green mascot in the form of a swallow, representing gymnastics and the sky.
By taking the first syllable of each mascot name, we obtain a pronunciation close to "Běijīng huānyíng nǐ", that is to say "Welcome to Beijing".

"30 Years of Diplomatic Relations" joint stamp set with Monaco, on covers from China

The year 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Principality of Monaco and the People's Republic of China. Despite their differences and geographical distance, these two countries have fostered a constructive and dynamic dialogue based on trust and mutual respect in areas of shared interest.
The most significant diplomatic event in recent years was the historic state visit of President Xi Jinping to Monaco in 2019, following that of Prince Albert II in 2018 and the first state visit in 2007. Environmental issues are at the forefront of discussions between the two countries. Faced with this crucial challenge, Monaco and China share common concerns and strong commitments. Sporting values are also among the shared values of both nations.
In the economic sphere, after a sharp slowdown due to the global health crisis, business relations are resuming between Chinese and Monegasque investors.

To celebrate this 30th anniversary, the postal administrations of Monaco and China issued a joint set (2 stamps, illustrations by Yan Ping) on October 15, 2025, featuring emblematic flowers from these two regions of the world.
The Chinese version of this series (2 x 1.20 yuan) was used on the right side of the cover above, sent on October 16, 2025, from Beijing. Thank you very much, Ruinan!
The stamp on the left depicts the flowers of the Canterbury bells (Campanula medium), a large-flowered bellflower species common in southern Europe (endemic to France, Italy, and Monaco), which blooms from May to August.
The other stamp features an orchid of the genus Cymbidium, which includes orchids native to the Himalayas, China, Japan, and tropical Asian regions. These orchids produce tall, exceptionally long-lasting flower spikes, often fragrant, from autumn to early spring.
The hexagonal stamp on the left (1.20 yuan, design: Chen Jingyi), issued on February 7, 2025, commemorates the 9th Asian Winter Games (featuring mascots, two Siberian tigers Binbin and Nini), held from February 7 to 14, 2025, in Harbin.
The other five stamps have the United Nations as their theme: 50 years of the restoration of the lawful seat of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations (1.20 yuan, design: Guo Zhiyi), issued on October 25, 2021 (top left, unfortunately damaged), 50 years of the United Nations (0.20 yuan and 0.50 yuan, design: Yan Bingwu and Qin Mingliang), issued on October 24, 1995 and 70 years of the United Nations (1.20 yuan and 1.50 yuan, design: Guo Zhenshan), issued on September 26, 2015.

This same joint series with Monaco was used on the right side of the cover above, sent on November 2, 2025, from Beijing.
The two stamps in the middle (1.20 yuan, design: Wang Huming) were issued on January 5, 2024, to celebrate the Year of the Dragon according to the Chinese lunar calendar. These two stamps are themed "Dragon Soaring with Vigor" and "Dragon Presenting Auspiciousness".
The fifth stamp on the left (1.20 yuan, design: Chen Nan), with an attached label, issued on June 16, 2024, also depicts a dragon and is dedicated to Chinese cinema.
Cinema was introduced to China in 1896, and the first Chinese film, "Dingjun Mountain", was made in 1905. The film industry was concentrated in Shanghai during the first few decades.
In 2020, the Chinese film market surpassed the US market to become the largest in the world.

"15th National Games" joint stamp set with China and Macau, on FDC from Hong Kong

Held every four years since 1959, the National Games of the People's Republic of China (National Games) are the country's largest and most prestigious national multi-sport event.
The 15th National Games, which took place from November 9 to 21, 2025, were co-hosted by Guangdong Province, Hong Kong, and Macau. This was the third time Guangdong had hosted the National Games, after 1987 and 2001, and the first time that the two special administrative regions of China, Hong Kong and Macau, had organized the event. It was also the first time in the history of the National Games that they had been co-hosted by multiple provinces.
14,252 athletes, each representing a province of China, as well as some major organizations such as the People's Liberation Army, participated in this event, often called the "Chinese Mini Olympics", competing in 34 sports and 419 events.

On November 9, 2025, the postal administrations of China (3 stamps), Hong Kong (4 stamps), and Macau (4 stamps) released different series commemorating these 15th National Games.
A special sheet was printed, featuring all 11 of these stamps.
This series (designed by Toby NG, printed in France by Cartor) issued by Hong Kong is present on the official First Day Cover above. Thank you very much, Kevin!
This series illustrates the sports held in Hong Kong: rugby sevens and track cycling ($2.20), fencing and beach volleyball ($4.00), golf and triathlon ($5.40), basketball (men's U22), and handball (men's) ($5.50).
This series uses a silhouette-style design to present a mix of the signature colours of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, namely the cotton red of Guangzhou, the bauhinia magenta of Hong Kong and the lotus green of Macau. Through a unique touch of creativity and layering, each stamp depicts two competition events hosted in Hong Kong. On the stamps, athletic postures are cleverly blended with dynamic lines to vividly showcase the tremendous vigour of athletes.

Kevin also sent me the cover above, including the $5.40 stamp (golf and triathlon) and the First Day cancellation.
To note the special cachet on the left depicting the Kai Tak Stadium (50,000 seats, retractable roof), part of the Kai Tak Sports Park (opened on March 1, 2025), where events of these 15th National Games were held (rugby sevens, handball, fencing).
This sports park, located on the site of the former Kai Tak International Airport, also includes the Kai Tak Arena (10,000 seats) and a 5,000-seat youth sports field.
During these 15th National Games, Hong Kong athletes won 17 medals (8 gold, 2 silver, 7 bronze) in cycling, tennis, sailing, swimming, rugby, triathlon, and fencing.

"75 Years of Diplomatic Relations" joint stamp set with China, on cover from Indonesia

On August 30, 2025, the postal administrations of China and Indonesia released a lovely joint set (two stamps) featuring remarkable lakes, as part of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
These two stamps (5,000 IDR each, design: Guo Zhenshan + Indonesian Post) have been used on the cover below, sent by registered mail on September 25, 2025, from Malang (Java Island). Thank you very much, Irene!
Both countries are important developing countries, emerging markets, and significant forces in the Global South, among the world's five most populous countries. Their bilateral relations are of major strategic importance and exert considerable global influence.
The stamp on the left depicts Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, an important Hindu Shaivite temple located on the island of Bali, on the shores of Lake Bratan, in the mountains near Bedugul.
Built in 1633, this temple is used for offerings and ceremonies dedicated to the Balinese goddess of water, lake, and river Dewi Danu, due to the importance of Lake Bratan as the main source of irrigation in central Bali.

The other stamp in this joint series is dedicated to West Lake, a famous lake located in the historic center of Hangzhou, in China's Zhejiang Province.
Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Park was proclaimed a national park on November 8, 1982, and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011. The inscribed landscape has inspired famous poets, scholars and artists since the 9th century. It comprises numerous temples, pagodas, pavilions, gardens and ornamental trees, as well as causeways and artificial islands.

To note that the official logo for this 75th anniversary, featuring a giant panda and a Javan hawk-eagle (the Indonesian national bird), is reproduced on these two stamps, unlike the Chinese stamps...
The Indonesian Post printed these two stamps in a single sheet (6 pairs) with illustrated margins including the flags of both countries (as above), emblematic animals (giant panda and Komodo dragon (as above right)), and national flowers (peony and Sambac jasmine).

"Beijing 2008 Olympic Games / Olympex" souvenir sheets on covers from China

Merci beaucoup Ruinan !
The souvenir sheet from this series (6 yuan, standard version - a silk-printed version was also issued) was used on the cover below, sent from Beijing on September 27, 2025. Thank you so much Ruinan!

The emblem of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games appears in the upper left corner, with the inscription "20080808" on the right commemorating the start of the Games.
The date of August 8, 2008, and the time of the opening ceremony's broadcast, 8:08 PM (local time), were chosen to incorporate as many eights as possible, as this number is considered lucky in China.
The elements on the round stamp in this souvenir sheet evoke the previous Games in Athens in 2004 (the Olympic medal and the mascots Phevos and Athena, inspired by the terracotta dolls of ancient Greece dating back to the 7th century BC).
The stamp on the left is part of a series (12 stamps) issued in Greece on March 25, 1896, to commemorate the first modern Olympic Games in Athens. This stamp is inspired by the Nike of Paionios, a Greek sculpture (circa 420 BC) by the sculptor Paionius of Mende, currently housed in the Archaeological Museum of Olympia.
The torch on the right is the one used during the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The first Olympic torch relay (3,000 athletes from 7 countries) was indeed organized in 1936 and linked Olympia to Berlin.
Note that some countries (Belgium, France or Andorra (French Post)) also issued stamps in 2008 referring to this Olympex exhibition.

Ruinan was kind enough to also send me the above cover, sent on June 19, 2025 from Beijing, with a souvenir sheet that is part of a series (6 stamps + 1 souvenir sheet), issued on December 20, 2007, illustrating the different sites and stadiums where the competitions took place during these Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
This souvenir sheet with a pentagon-shaped stamp (6 yuan, design: Wang Huming) shows the characteristic structure of the Beijing National Stadium, also called "Bird's Nest", built especially for the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This stadium is the first stadium to host the opening and closing ceremonies of summer games (in 2008) then winter games (in 2022).
