EUROPA 2026 (70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps) s/s on cover from Bosnia & Herzegovina (Pošte Srpske)

The year 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps, a philatelic initiative launched to strengthen relations between European countries and promote lasting peace and unity.
First issued in 1956 by six nations – Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, founding members of the European Union – this program has gradually expanded to include 53 participating postal organizations.
Last year, PostEurop's Stamps and Philately Working Group organized an internal competition to choose a common design on the theme "70th Anniversary of the EUROPA Stamp: United by...".
Guided by shared values such as communication, innovation, cooperation, and common roots, the members submitted 15 creative proposals, each presenting a unique vision.
Following a vote by 50 postal organizations, the Finnish Post (Posti) won the competition, ahead of the Post of Bosnia & Herzegovina (Sarajevo) and the Post of Luxembourg.
The design by artist and graphic designer Klaus Welp will therefore be featured on the EUROPA stamps issued in 2026.

On April 22, 2026, the Post of the Republika Srpska (Pošte Srpske), one of the 3 postal operators of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), together with the Post of the Federation of BiH in Sarajevo (BH Pošta) and the Croatian Post in Mostar (HP Mostar), put into circulation a unique EUROPA stamp reproducing the design by Klaus Welp.
This stamp (3.60 BAM, print run: 8,000) was printed in a sheetlet of nine stamps as well as in a souvenir sheet (print run: 8,000) used on the cover above, sent on May 3, 2026, from Istočno Sarajevo. Thank you very much, Miro!
This EUROPA stamp combines abstract and symbolic elements. The diagonally ascending dotted line represents both the perforation of a stamp and the progressive work of the PostEurop. The seven dots, connected by a straight line, symbolize seventy years of unified effort by postal operators across the continent.
The blending gradients and dotted patterns in the background form a cohesive and vibrant surface, reflecting the joyful mix of colours from the European flag and symbolizing the unity of all member nations.
It should be noted that the Post of the Republika Srpska issued its first EUROPA stamps in 1997 (tales and legends), although its first official EUROPA stamps were issued in 2005 (Gastronomy) when the postal administration became a member of the UPU (and a member of PostEurop in 2008).

EUROPA 2025 (National Archaeological Discoveries) s/s on cover from Bosnia & Herzegovina (Pošte Srpske)

The theme chosen by the PostEurop association for the EUROPA 2025 stamps is "National Archaeological Discoveries" ("Nacionalna arheoloska otkrica").
On April 24, 2025, the Post of the Republika Srpska (Pošte Srpske), one of the 3 postal operators of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), together with the Post of the Federation of BiH in Sarajevo and the Croatian Post in Mostar (HP Mostar), put into circulation two stamps illustrating this theme,
particularly dedicated to the archaeological site of Skelani.
These two horizontal stamps (3.30 BAM, print run: 8,000 each), designed by Nebojsa Djumic, were each printed in a separate sheetlet (8 stamps + 1 label) as well as in a single souvenir sheet (print run: 8,000) including vertical stamps.
Many thanks to Miro for this lovely cover sent on May 5, 2025, from Istočno Sarajevo, franked with this EUROPA souvenir sheet!

159 kilometers from the confluence of the Piva and Tara rivers and the source of the Drina, in the meander formed by the river around the Osata mountain range, in the middle Podrinje, lies the town of Skelani, in the east of the country, near the border with Serbia.

This region is rich in natural and mineral resources, which contributed to the development of a Roman settlement from the 1st to the 4th century. Exceptional urban planners, builders, and craftsmen, the Romans left behind numerous buildings and monuments, the remains of which are still visible today.
The first archaeological excavations at Skelani were conducted by Carl Patsch (1865-1945) in 1896. During this time, he discovered and explored two early Christian churches, a necropolis, and a brickyard, and collected over 80 Roman monuments.
A century later, archaeologists returned to Skelani. Under the direction of Mirko Babić, excavations were carried out in 2008 at four locations: "Zadružni dom", "Branko's Field", "Baba Ankino dvorište" and in the "Porta of the Serbian Orthodox Church". Remains of ancient buildings were discovered at all four locations, and the finds of Roman floor mosaics at the "Zadružni dom" site and 30 Roman monuments at the "Baba Ankino dvorište" site were particularly valuable.
After these discoveries, the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska declared the archaeological complex in Skelani a cultural asset of exceptional importance. The Public Institution Archaeological Museum "Roman Municipium" Skelani was soon established, with the task of taking care of the protected complex.
During the following period, the villa urbana was almost entirely explored, and a corridor with floor mosaics dominated by floral and geometric motifs (like the one depicted on the stamp on the left) was discovered. In a room interpreted as a dining room, a mosaic whose central motif is a medallion depicting the Gorgon Medusa was discovered (see stamp above on the right).

"150 years of the UPU 1874-2024" stamp on cover from Bosnia & Herzegovina (Pošte Srpske)

In 2024, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) celebrated its 150th anniversary. On October 9, 1874, 22 countries gathered to sign the Treaty of Bern, creating the General Postal Union, which would later become known as the Universal Postal Union (from 1878).
150 years later, the UPU now unites the postal networks of 192 member countries, having realized its founders' vision of establishing a single postal territory to serve people everywhere.
The UPU's theme for its 150th year, "150 years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nations", recognizes this accomplishment, and reinforces its commitment to serve peoples for the decades and centuries to come.
Throughout 2024, the UPU organized a series of events and campaigns in celebration of its rich past, dedicated present and promising future, in particular using the hashtag #UPU150 on social media.

The UPU, a specialized agency of the United Nations (since 1947) headquartered in Bern, Switzerland, is the second oldest international organization after the International Telecommunications Union, and constitutes the main forum for cooperation between global postal sector players.
On October 9, 2024, World Post Day, the Post of the Republika Srpska (Pošte Srpske), one of the 3 postal operators of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), put into circulation a stamp dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the UPU ("150 godina Svjetskog poštanskog saveza" in Serbian).
This stamp (1.95 BAM, print run: 8,000, design: Nebojša Đumić), printed in a sheetlet of 8 stamps + 1 label, was used on the above cover sent on November 11, 2024 from Istočno Sarajevo. Thank you very much Miro!
This stamp was designed based on the new logo (since October 2024) of the
Pošte Srpske, representing a stylized messenger bird (reminiscent of the Japanese art of origami) whose body is made of an envelope.
The official logo (and associated slogan in English) of this 150th anniversary, created by the UPU, is reproduced on the adjoining label above.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has been a member of the UPU since January 26, 1993.

EUROPA 2023 (Peace - the highest value of humanity) stamp set on cover from Bosnia & Herzegovina (Pošte Srpske)

On the proposal of the Ukrainian Post, the theme chosen by the PostEurop organization for the EUROPA 2023 stamps is "Peace - the highest value of humanity" ("Mir - najveca vrijednost covjecanstva" in Serbian), echoing the aggression of the country by Russia which began more than one year ago.
This choice sounds like a reminder of the will that presided over the creation of the European Union in 1950 after the Second World War, summed up by Robert Schuman in a now famous formula: make Europe to make Peace.
To illustrate this 2023 theme, PostEurop organized a competition within the member countries and the Luxembourg Post's "Peace Knot" project (authors: Linda Bos and Runa Egilsdottir - A Designers' Collective) was chosen from among 29 proposals.
This project represents intertwined hearts, and hands with intertwined fingers, inspired by Celtic love knots. The different colors refer to all the countries of the world, united by this new symbol of peace, a kind of society based on cooperation, in which individuals stand together.

On April 28, 2023, the Pošte Srpske, one of the 3 postal operators of Bosnia & Herzegovina (BiH), together with the Croatian Post of Mostar (HP Mostar) and the Post of the BiH Federation in Sarajevo, put into circulation its EUROPA series, with a stamp (3.30 BAM) reproducing this common "Peace Knot" and another stamp (1.95 BAM) representing the Pošte Srpske's project (design: Danijela Popovic) for this PostEurop competition.
These two stamps (print run: 10,000 each) were each printed in a sheetlet of 9 stamps, the 3.30 BAM stamp also being printed in a souvenir sheet (print run: 8,000), like the one used on this cover sent on May 22, 2023 from Istočno Sarajevo. Thank you very much Miro!
The 2nd EUROPA stamp illustrates the carefree play of a girl who unknowingly creates symbols of peace and sends the message of happiness as the value of humanity.

EUROPA 2022 (Stories & Myths) stamp set on FDC from Bosnia & Herzegovina (Pošte Srpske)

Happy to share with you this nice official FDC (print run: 500) of May 11, 2022 with postmark from Banja Luka, concerning the EUROPA series (2 stamps) dedicated this year to the Stories and myths ("приче и митови" in Serbian).
These two stamps were put into circulation by the
Pošte Srpske (Republika Srpska), one of the 3 postal operators of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), with the Croatian Post of Mostar (HP Mostar) and the Post of the BiH Federation in Sarajevo.
These EUROPA stamps (design: Nebojša Đumić) have been each issued in sheetlet (8 stamps + 1 label) as well as in a booklet of 4 stamps (2 stamps of each, imperforated on some sides). Each of these stamps has been printed in 20,000 copies (10,000 for the booklet).

I really love the realistic and audacious design of this series as well as the First Day Cover, showing this scared young girl in her bed ...

Every nation has its own beliefs and myths that have been passed down from generation to generation for centuries. The mythology of the Slavic peoples, including the Bosnian Serbs, is very vivid and colorful.
The stamp on the right (2.70 BAM) is dedicated to Drekavac or the Screamer, a creature of South Slavic mythology, a material manifestation of an unbaptized dead man (according to some stories, a young boy) who cannot find peace.
According to legend, Drekavac is a small, hairy creature, with long, sharp claws on its toes and a large head on a thin neck. It has been mentioned that he is the object of frightening cries with which he can deafen a person. According to the myth, screamers attack people who find themselves late at night near a cemetery, a river, a lake or a forest by jumping on their backs and forcing them to walk all the way. night. If the victim does not obey the screamer's demands, he will be scratched and torn by the enormous claws of this mythical creature ...
The other stamp (1.95 BAM) is dedicated to Baba Roga, also a creature from South Slavic mythology. The little children were afraid of her. Baba Roga is often confused with a witch, although they are different mythological creatures.
In folklore, she is depicted exclusively as a terrifying female being in the form of a hunched, ugly, toothless old woman with a horrifying face and a horn on her head. She hides in dark places and only goes out at night. Baba Roga scares and kidnaps naughty children and takes them to her lair ...

Happy to share with you this nice official FDC of April 16, 2021 with postmark from Banja Luka, concerning the EUROPA series (2 stamps) dedicated this year to the endangered national wildlife ("угрожени национални животињски свијет" in Serbian).
These two stamps were put into circulation by the Republika Srpska (Pošte Srpske), one of the 3 postal operators of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), with the Croatian Post of Mostar (HP Mostar) and the Post of the BiH Federation in Sarajevo.

I really love this series as well as the First Day envelope, showing in particular the size of the harvest mouse (Micromys minutus), the smallest rodent living in Europe, whose range extends from Western Europe as far as Asia (China and Japan).
This species, not particularly endangered (only in some places due to intensive agriculture), lives in fields of cereals such as wheat and oats, as well as in tall grasses, hedges or reed beds (as is the case on the stamp at 2.70 BAM).
A Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni) is depicted on the other stamp (1.95 BAM), of which a subspecies (hercegovinensis) lives on the Dalmatian coast (Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro).
This species (the only terrestrial turtle living in France) is considered threatened and, in Republika Srpska, Hermann's tortoise is a strictly protected species and it also enjoys protection at the international level through several conventions on the species protection.
Illegal trade, habitat destruction, extension of agricultural crops and urbanization mainly threaten this species.

"250th birth anniversary of Beethoven" stamp on FDC from Bosnia & Herzegovina (Pošte Srpske)

Many postal administrations (Germany, Ukraine, France, Jersey, Guernsey, Serbian Republic of Bosnia, Monaco, Vatican City, Moldova, Portugal, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Lebanon, Romania, SMOM, Gibraltar, Austria, Croatia, Brazil, Faroe Islands, Liechtenstein ...) have already issued or will issue stamps in 2020 commemorating the 250th anniversary of the birth of the German composer and pianist Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), probably one of the most famous musicians around the world, with Mozart.
On January 29, 2020, the Republika Srpska (Pošte Srpske), one of the 3 postal operators of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), with the Croatian Post of Mostar (HP Mostar) and the Post of the Federation of BiH in Sarajevo, put into circulation a stamp (1.95 BAM, print run: 15,000, design: Nebojša Dumič) on this theme, desigbed from a famous portrait of the musician (while composing the Missa solemnis) dating from 1820, by the German painter Joseph Karl Stieler, exhibited in his birthplace in Bonn.

This stamp, printed in sheetlet consisting of 8 stamps + 1 label, is present on the official FDC above, with cancellation from Banja Luka (including this crossed out ear, in reference to Beethoven's deafness).
To note that the official logo of the celebrations of this 250th anniversary, "BTHVN2020" (reminding that Beethoven sometimes signed some of his scores and letters with only the 5 consonants of his name), is featured on the stamp and the First Day postmark.
With his immortal music, Beethoven is considered a radical artist and a creative visionary, having passionately defended the ideals of freedom and brotherhood, in particular through his Symphony No. 9 composed between 1822 and 1824, having deeply influenced the history of music in the 19th and 20th century.

EUROPA 2020 (Ancient postal routes) stamp set on FDC from Bosnia & Herzegovina (Pošte Srpske)

Happy to share with you this nice official FDC of September 3, 2020 with cancellation from Banja Luka, concerning the EUROPA series (2 stamps) dedicated this year to the ancient postal routes.
These 2 stamps were put into circulation by the Republika Srpska (Pošte Srpske), one of the 3 postal operators of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), with the Croatian Post of Mostar (HP Mostar) and the Post of the Federation of BiH in Sarajevo.
These EUROPA stamps (design: Tanja Kuruzovic) have been each issued in sheetlet (8 stamps + 1 label) as well as in a booklet of 4 stamps (2 stamps of each, imperforated on some sides). Each of these stamps has been printed in 20,000 copies (10,000 for the booklet).
I do not know exactly the origin of this old map, showing a priori old postal routes on the current territory of Bosnia-Herzegovina, reproduced on the envelope and on each stamp ...

According to documents from the Ottoman Empire, the first post offices in the territory of present-day Republika Srpska were opened in 1864, in the cities of Visegrad, Zvornik, Bijeljina, Brcko, Gradiska and Brod.
Under this Ottoman rule, there was no regular mail, no postal lines with a specific direction and time of departure and arrival of items. Mail was transported by Tatars on horseback (stamp at 1.80 BAM).
The main postal route was Travnik-Constantinople maintained by the Tatars via Sarajevo, Rogatica, Visegrad, Priboj, Kosovska Mitrovica and further to Skopje and the capital of the Ottoman Empire.
The postal link between Serbia and Bosnia started operating in 1851. When the first railway line in this part of the Ottoman Empire was built in 1878 (stamp at 2.70 BAM), connecting Banja Luka and Dobrljin, the consignments sent to Banja Luka and Gradiška were separated, while other letters were sent by rail to Prijedor, Novi Grad and Dobrljin.

"50th Anniversary of the first moon landing" m/s on cover from Bosnia & Herzegovina (Pošte Srpske)

In May 1961, President John F. Kennedy had announced the goal of landing a man on the Moon before the end of the decade.
Spurred by USSR competition during the Cold War, the US government devoted unprecedented resources (about 400,000 people) to the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo space programs.
On July 19, 1969, this goal was achieved when, for the first time in the history of mankind, two American astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, walked on the Moon.
Five days earlier, as part of the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins took off aboard a Saturn-V rocket from the Kennedy Space Center (Cape Canaveral) in Florida, entering lunar orbit on July 19, 1969.

Like thirty other postal administrations, the Post of the Republika Srpska (Pošte Srpske), one of the 3 postal operators of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), commemorated the 50th anniversary of this first moon landing by issuing, on July 3, 2019, a very nice miniature sheet (2 stamps at 2.70 BAM, print run: 15,000, design: Nebojsa Djumic).
This numbered miniature sheet is present on the official FDC above including an illustration of the faces of the 3 American astronauts, with the moon and the Eagle lunar module (which landed in the Sea of Tranquility) in the background.
The stamp on the left was designed from a now famous photograph showing astronaut Buzz Aldrin walking on the moon's surface, during this Apollo 11 mission. Mission commander Neil Armstrong took this photograph with a 70mm lunar surface camera. While Armstrong and Aldrin explored the Sea of Tranquility region of the moon, Michael Collins stayed in the command and service module in lunar orbit (featured in the margin of the miniature sheet to the left).
The other stamp represents Buzz Aldrin descending from the Eagle module.
After Apollo 11, NASA completed 5 other Apollo missions until 1972 which allowed 12 astronauts to walk on the moon. The United States remains the only country to have accomplished this remarkable feat.

EUROPA 2019 (National birds) stamp set on cover from Bosnia & Herzegovina (Pošte Srpske)

A big thank you Edin for this nice cover sent on December 25, 2019 from the city of Istočno Sarajevo (Lukavica), stamped with the EUROPA 2019 series issued by the Post of the Republika Srpska (Pošte Srpske), one of the three postal operators in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), with the Croatian Post Mostar and the BiH Post of Sarajevo.

Dedicated to national birds that year, this two EUROPA stamps (design: Nebojša Dumič), issued on April 24, 2019, were printed each in sheetlet (8 stamps + 1 label) and in a booklet of 4 stamps (2 of each, non perforated on some sides).
Each of these stamps was printed at 20,000 copies (10,000 for the booklet).

I really love this series featuring heads of raptors in close-up, as if we were flying right next to them ...
The stamp above on the left (2.70 KM) is dedicated to the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), one of the majestic emblems of the Alps region but also present in certain parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina (less than 50 breeding pairs listed).
This bird was also chosen on EUROPA 2019 stamps issued in Moldova, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Romania.
The other stamp (1.80 KM) features a peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), a robust raptor species (present on the 5 continents), of medium size, known to be the the world's fastest bird in dive (over 320 km/h).
This bird was also depicted on EUROPA 2019 stamps issued in Monaco and San Marino.

Each of these stamps (1,70 KM) was printed at 20,000 copies (10,000 for the booklet).

The stamp above on the right is dedicated to the Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge of Višegrad (east of the country), inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2007.
This bridge (11 arches, 180 meters long) was built at the end of the 16th century over the Drina River by the court architect Mimar Koca Sinan on the orders of Grand Vizier Mehmed Paša Sokolović and is characteristic of the apogee of Ottoman monumental architecture and civil engineering.
The other stamp represents the Arslanagića Ćuprija bridge located on the territory of the city of Trebinje (southeast of the country).
Built on the Trebišnjica river in the 16th century thanks to an endowment from Mehmed Paša Sokolović, this stone bridge (7 arches, 92 meters long) is inscribed on the list of national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Originally built 5 kilometers upstream from its current location, this bridge was partially destroyed during the 2nd World War. It was relocated and rebuilt identically in 1972 following the construction of a hydroelectric dam.
This bridge is the most famous monument of the Turkish period in Trebinje and has a very important place in the Balkan architecture of the 16th century.

"50th anniversary of the first EUROPA stamps" set on cover from Bosnia & Herzegovina (Pošte Srpske)

In 2005 and 2006, many European postal administrations (Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Gibraltar, Greenland, Estonia, Latvia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Romania, Turkey, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Iceland, Malta, Isle of Man, Ukraine, Moldova or Austria) but also non European postal administrations (Sri Lanka, Laos, Uruguay, Fiji, Samoa, Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica, Kyrgyzstan, Peru, Solomon Islands, Belize, Bhutan, Saint Helena, Mongolia, Nicaragua or Suriname) issued stamps celebrating the 50th anniversary of the issue of the first EUROPA stamps in 1956.
This says a lot about the popularity of these EUROPA stamps among collectors all over the world !

A big thank you Zhou for this nice letter sent by registered mail on April 18, 2019 from the city of Banja Luka, franked with a stamp and the souvenir sheet on this theme issued on August 30, 2005 by the Post of the Republika Srpska (Pošte Srpske), one of the 3 postal operators of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), with the Croatian Post Mostar and the Post of the BiH Federation of Sarajevo.
The CEPT logo (which appeared on the EUROPA stamps issued before 1993) as well as the logo of this 50th anniversary of the issue of the first EUROPA stamps are present on these stamps as well as in the margins of the souvenir sheet.
The Pošte Srpske issued 4 stamps (1.95 KM, print run: 30,000 each, design: Radomir Bojanić / Nadežda Skočajić), also in the form of the souvenir sheet above, illustrating natural sites and bridges in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Perućica forest (one of the few primary forests in Europe, located in the Sutjeska National Park near the border with Montenegro), rafting on one of the many rivers of the country, old bridge of Mostar (which is not located on the territory of the Republika Srpska) and the Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge built in 1577 on the Drina River in Višegrad.
To note that this last bridge is also depicted on one of the two EUROPA 2018 stamps issued by the Pošte Srpske.
Finally, to note this registered label ending with QM while similar labels end with BA in the other two entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

EUROPA 2017 (Castles) stamp set on cover from Bosnia & Herzegovina (Pošte Srpske)

A big thank you Edin for this great cover sent by registered mail on September 4, 2017 from the city of Istočno Sarajevo (Lukavica), franked, among others, with the EUROPA 2017 set issued by the Post of the Republika Srpska (Pošte Srpske), one of the three postal operators in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), with the Croatian Post Mostar and the Post of Sarajevo.
Istočno Sarajevo consists of neighborhoods in the eastern part of Sarajevo, attached to the Republika Srpska following the Dayton Accords of 1995, and is the official capital (Banja Luka, the seat of government and institutions, being the de facto capital).
The EUROPA series (design: Božidar Došenović), issued on April 28, 2017, is dedicated this year to castles and fortresses. Each stamp was printed in sheetlet (8 stamps + 1 central coupon) and in a booklet of 4 stamps (2 of each, non perforated on some sides).
Each of these stamps (1,70 KM) was printed at 25,000 copies (10,000 for the booklet).

The two EUROPA 2017 stamps above on the right were extracted from their respective sheetlets, with the attached coupon, and show different views of the Kastel fortress in Banja Luka.
National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, this fortress was built from Antiquity (end of construction in the medieval period) on the left bank of the Vrbas River.
The site was conquered by the Ottomans from the 16th century when Banja Luka became the capital of the Bosnian Sandjak.
At the time of Numan-pacha Ćuprilić (1712-1714), the Kastel fortress was strengthened and took its current configuration (an elongated trapezium). Like the rest of the country, it passed under the control of the Empire of Austria-Hungary from 1878.
The two other stamps above (design: Radomir Bojanić, print run: 55,000 each) constitute the EUROPA series issued on May 5, 2003, devoted to the theme of poster art, old posters concerning air and maritime transport here.
It should be noted that Pošte Srpske (as well as the Croatian Post in Mostar) was not yet a UPU member and the EUROPA stamps issued since 1997 are not considered as official (this will be the case from 2005).

Wooden Church and 60 years of the Council of Europe on cover from Republika Srpska (BiH)

A big thank you Lars for this nice letter sent on September 9, 2016 from the city of Trebinje, located in the Republika Srpska, in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, not far from the border with Croatia and Montenegro !
The stamp on the right (1.50 KM), issued on March 25, 2009, is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Council of Europe.
Created in 1949 by 10 European countries, this institution (47 member countries today) aims to defend democracy, human rights, identity and cultural diversity of Europe or fight against discrimination.
The Palace of Europe, seat of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, is depicted on that stamp (print run : 20,000) printed in sheet of 8 stamps + 1 central label.

In the same series, a 2nd stamp was issued about the 50th anniversary of the European Court of Human Rights.
Bosnia and Herzegovina joined the Council of Europe on April 24, 2002.
To note that many other postal administrations have also issued stamps in 2009 about this 60th anniversary of the Council of Europe : Turkey, Albania, Georgia, Armenia, Moldova, Croatian Post Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo), Andorra ( Spanish post), Azerbaijan, Spain, Slovenia, Romania...
The 2nd stamp (0.10 KM, print run : 200,000) in two copies above is part of a series of 3 stamps, issued on July 17, 2014, devoted to wooden churches of the Republika Srpska, the Church of the Ascension located in Omarska (municipality of Prijedor, north-west of the country) here.
Consecrated in 1922 (an old wooden church was built here around 1893), this little church houses several relics and icons (icons of the Three Holy Hierarchs or Saint Sava). The interior of the church was completely renovated in 2013.

Merci beaucoup Edin !
With this new cover, my EUROPA 2016 collection from Bosnia and Herzegovina is full !
I had indeed already shared with you on this blog two covers franked with the EUROPA 2016 stamp sets respectively issued by the Croatian Post Mostar and the Post of the Federation of B&H in Sarajevo
I was lucky to receive the EUROPA 2016 series issued this time by the postal administration of the Republika Srpska, used to frank the cover below sent on September 13, 2016 from the city of Istočno Sarajevo (Lukavica). Thank you very much Edin !

As a reminder, Istočno Sarajevo consists of neighborhoods in the eastern part of Sarajevo, attached to the Republika Srpska following the Dayton Accords of 1995, and is the official capital (Banja Luka, the seat of government and institutions, being the de facto capital).
Devoted to the theme of Ecology in Europe and in particular to the slogan "Think Green" ("Misli zeleno" in Bosnian), this EUROPA series, issued on April 25, 2016, was declined for each stamp in sheetlet (9 stamps) as well as in booklet of 4 stamps (2 of each).
Each of these stamps (1.50 KM) was printed in 25,000 copies (15,000 for the booklet).
The stamp to the right was designed from the joint drawing (author : Doxia Sergidou / Cyprus Post) selected among 24 projects following a competition organized by PostEurop to celebrate this year the 60th anniversary of the issue of the first CEPT-EUROPA stamps.
The other stamp, designed by Nebojša Đumić, is entitled "Let's save energy" ("štedi energiju").

Istočno Sarajevo consists of neighborhoods in the eastern part of Sarajevo, attached to the Republika Srpska after the Dayton Accords of 1995.

This city is the official capital of the Republika Srpska even if Banja Luka, the seat of government and institutions, is the de facto capital.
Devoted in 2015 to old toys ("stare igračke" in Serbian), this EUROPA series (design : Božidar Došenović and Nebojša Đumić), issued on April 17, 2015, was declined for each stamp in sheetlet (8 stamps + 1 central vignette) as well as in a booklet of 6 stamps (3 of each).
Each of these stamps (0.90 KM and 1.70 KM) was printed in 30,000 copies (10,000 for the booklet).
These two stamps were designed in collaboration with the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade, with a focus on a colorful tractor manufactured in 1957 (by Mehanotehnika (?), one of the most famous toy factories in the former Yugoslavia) and a small robot of aluminum dating from the first half of the 20th century.
These two toys are featured with different plasticine elements (planet, rocket and stars for example for the robot).
