Merci beaucoup Khatuna !

Qatar-Ecuador joint stamp issue

On the occasion of the state visit of the President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, to Qatar, a first in 40 years, the postal administrations of the two countries have put into circulation a joint stamp on October 22, 2014.
The preview sale of that stamp (Ecuadorian and Qatari versions) took place in Doha, the capital of the emirate of Qatar.
Qatar and Ecuador formally established diplomatic relations in 1975 but have opened respective embassies only in 2012.
Economic and trade exchanges between the two countries have largely increased in recent years, in particular following the visit of the Emir of Qatar in Quito in 2013.

The version of this joint stamp issued by Qatar Post, was used on the cover above, sent from Doha on December 16, 2014. Thank you very much Nilesh :-)
That stamp, including the flags of the two countries at the bottom right, is featuring the national animal of the two countries : the Arabian oryx (Qatar) and the Andean condor (Ecuador).
This Qatari stamp, issued in sheet of 8 stamps with central vignette, includes a frame printed with a silver effect while two animals have been printed with a golden effect.
The Arabian oryx (Oryx leucoryx), the emblem of Qatar Airways, has disappeared in the wild in the 1970s and has been successfully reintroduced in several countries of the Arabian Peninsula (Qatar, Saudi Arabia United Arab Emirates).
The Andean condor (Vultur gryphus), an endangered species, is one of the symbols of Ecuador and is featured in the coat of arms of the country, symbolizing the power, greatness and value of the Ecuadorian people.

Emission commune Qatar/Maroc - Faucon

Qatar-Morocco "Falcon" joint stamp issue

I've already mentioned, in a recent post on this blog, the stamp issued on October 9, 2012 by the Moroccan postal administration, dedicated to the falcon.
This stamp was actually a joint issue with Qatar, which explains the presence of the flags of the two countries in the background. It is the Qatar's version of this stamp (2.50 Riyals) that appears to the right on the cover below mailed on December 18th 2012 from Doha, the capital. Thank you very much Nilesh :-)
This theme of the falcon was chosen because it is a symbol of culture, tradition and ancestral sport in many Arab countries.

Nilesh has completed his postage with a stamp (0.50 Riyal), issued on October 14, 2008 to announce the organization of the 14th edition of the GCC Stamps Exhibition in Doha.
This exhibition is taking place each year since 1995 in one of the six member countries of the GCC ("Gulf Cooperation Council") : Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and United Arab Emirates.
This event is seen as an opportunity for participating countries to support artistic values related to postage stamp, to promote philately as a hobby and to increase the cooperation between the postal services of these countries.

Journée de la Poste Arabe 2012 au Qatar

Arab Postal Day 2012 on stamps from Qatar

After covers received from Morocco, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Iraq posted on this blog, I was lucky to receive a new letter, from Qatar this time, franked with the stamp issued jointly in 2012 by several member countries of the Arab League, devoted to the Arab Postal Day.
Thank you very much Nilesh for this letter mailed on December 18, 2012 from Doha, the capital :-)
This stamp (1 Riyal), in three copies below, was issued on August 3, 2012, the day of celebration every year of that Arab Postal Day.

As a reminder, following a competition organized by the Arab Permanent Postal Commission (APPC), the illustration reproduced on this joint stamp (designed by Mohamed Nidham from Oman) shows a map of the 22 countries of the Arab League as well as a carrier pigeon and the emblem of the Arab League.
To note that only 11 countries (out of the 22 member countries of the Arab League!) have participated in this joint stamp issue (Morocco, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Palestine and Sudan), but not all of them have respected the date of issue of August 3, 2012...
Finally, to note the presence on that stamp of the two years 2012 and 1433 respectively referring to the two Gregorian and Islamic calendars.

Emission commune Maroc-Qatar

Morocco-Qatar joint stamp issue

For the first time in its history, the Post of Morocco has issued on October 9th 2012, a joint stamp with another Arab country, Qatar (joint issue with only one other country).
Designed by J. Kassis, this stamp (printed in France by Phil@poste) is dedicated to the falcon with the flags of the two countries in the background.
This stamp is part of the postage of this nice letter mailed on 12.12.12 from the city of Oujda. Thank you very much Hicham for this first cover received from Morocco :-)
Falcon is indeed a symbol of culture, tradition and ancestral sport in many Arab countries. Falconry (in particular with the Saker Falcon), symbol of power and prestige, is particularly popular in some Gulf countries such as Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Falcon (of Quraysh) is moreover part of the arms of some Arab countries (Syria, United Arab Emirates).

This joint issue with Qatar also coincided with the organization of the 25th Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in the Qatari capital, Doha.
Hicham has also used above the stamp issued on August 3, 2012 on the occasion of the Arab Postal Day ("Journée de la Poste Arabe"). As a reminder, following a recommendation of the Arab Permanent Postal Commission (APPC), under the auspices of the Arab League, the postal administrations of the 22 member countries were invited to issue again a joint set of stamps, on August 3, 2012, to commemorate this Arab postal Day.
That stamp, designed by Mohamed Nidham (Oman), shows a map of the countries of the Arab League as well as a carrier pigeon. The emblem of the Arab League is also included on the right side of the stamp.
To this day (if I'm not wrong), among the 22 member countries of the Arab League, only 11 of them (Morocco, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Palestine and Sudan) have actually issued this joint stamp for the moment...

1er courrier du Qatar !

My first cover from Qatar !

A last post today to share with you this special letter for me since this is the first that I receive from the State of Qatar !
Thank you very much Afendi for this nice cover mailed on May 8, 2011 from the city of Doha, the capital of this emirate located in the Arabian Peninsula, with a common border with Saudi Arabia :-)
The two stamps in the upper right are part of a series of four stamps, issued on October 10, 2010, devoted to Doha, declared Capital of Arab culture for 2010.
Each year, a city of an Arab country is thus chosen by the Arab League and UNESCO to promote Arab culture and cooperation between Arab countries.

I had already evoked this topic with the series issued in 2007 by the Algerian Post when Algiers was the capital of Arab culture. To note that the Libyan city of Syrte, the hometown of Muammar Qaddafi, was designated in 2011...
The two identical stamps (1 Riyal) were issued on April 20, 2011 to announce the 36th edition of the Arab Deaf Week.
The 5th element in the lower left is actually the central vignette of a souvenir sheet issued on March 9, 2010 (composed of four same stamps), celebrating the issue of a new edition of the Koran in the country. This vignette is including the word Mus'haf which refers to a set of sheets or handwritten pages bound together, a kind of Codex. The oldest Korans are thus often printed in Mus'haf form.
