"Zanzibar - Cultural and historical ties" joint stamp with Oman, on cover from Tanzania

On October 9, 2022, the postal administrations of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Sultanate of Oman put into circulation an interesting joint stamp illustrating the historical and cultural ties between the two countries and in particular the architectural heritage of the Sultans of Muscat and Oman in Zanzibar.
This joint stamp was printed in both countries in a sheetlet of 8 stamps + 1 large label as well as in a souvenir sheet.
A stamp (3000 TZS) + large label of the sheetlet were used on the cover below sent on May 18, 2024 from the city of Arusha. Thank you very much Bhavin!
As a reminder or information, this Sultanate of Muscat and Oman (1856-1970) which, at the time of its creation, extended from the southeast of Arabia (where the current Sultanate of Oman is located) and along the eastern coasts of Africa, from current Somalia to Zanzibar, was the center of a real colonial empire.

This stamp (and large label) depicts the Zanzibar coastline with some government buildings facing the shore, including the Zanzibar Corniche and the "House of Wonders", the largest and tallest building in Stone Town (the old part of Zanzibar), which is one of six palaces built by Barghash bin Said (1837-1888), the second Sultan of Zanzibar.
This House of Wonders, a vast ceremonial palace built in 1883, owes its nickname to the fact that it was the first building on the island to install lighting and an electric elevator.
In addition to the House of Wonders, Tanzania is home to several magnificent structures that testify to the favorable influence of Oman, which contributed to the development of small villages into renowned cities such as Zanzibar.
The Stone Town of Zanzibar has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.

"Inauguration of the PAPU tower" joint stamps on covers from Tanzania

On September 2, 2023, in the presence of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, the tower housing the new headquarters of the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) was officially inaugurated, after almost 4 years of work.
PAPU (currently 45 member states), a specialized institution of the African Union, was created in 1980 with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania. Its main objective is the coordination of postal service development activities in Africa.
On the occasion of the inauguration of this PAPU tower (construction partly financed by China), actually composed of two buildings, one of which has 17 floors, certain African postal administrations put into circulation a joint stamp representing this tower.

Unless I'm mistaken, 13 countries (Tanzania, Algeria, Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, Zimbabwe, Burundi, Central African Republic, Guinea, Niger, Sierra Leone, Togo) have issued this joint stamp (sometimes available in souvenir sheets), also including a monument or symbol of each of these countries.
On September 2, 2023, the Tanzanian Post put into circulation 4 stamps + 4 souvenir sheets as part of this joint issue.
Two of these stamps have been used on the cover above (1200 TZS) and below (3500 TZS), sent on May 18, 2024 from the city of Arusha. Thank you very much Bhavin!
The PAPU emblem appears at the top left on these stamps, the PAPU tower being featured on the left from different angles, with Kilimanjaro in the background, the highest point (5892 meters) of Tanzania and Africa, located not far from Arusha.
To note on the cover above the use of a 2nd stamp (2300 TZS, with year 2019) part of a series (3 stamps + 1 souvenir sheet) issued on January 18, 2020 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the creation of the PAPU. This stamp represents the cargo ship "Mv MAPINDUZI II" (2015) which ensures the transport of passengers and goods between Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.

The stamps of this "Inauguration of the PAPU tower" joint issue also feature different wild animals from Tanzania such as the elephant, lion or zebras on the stamp above.

Horse, flora and combat aircraft stamps on cover from Tanzania (Zanzibar)

Thank you very much Roland for this interesting cover sent on August 20, 2021 from Zanzibar, the main city of an archipelago located off the coast of mainland Tanzania!
Independent Tanzania was born in 1964 following the union of the states of Tanganyika and Zanzibar which issued (since 1916 for Tanganyika, since 1895 for Zanzibar) then their own stamps.
To note that between 1964 and 1976, stamps with the mention "Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania" were also issued, in addition to stamps including only the mention "Tanzania".
The 3 stamps used on this letter were all issued in the 1990s, a period when, like many other African countries, a plethora of stamps were issued, without much to do with the history or culture of Tanzania ...

This is the case with these 3 stamps, in particular the 20 shillings stamp which is part of a series (7 stamps + 1 souvenir sheet) issued on November 30, 1993, devoted to different breeds of horses, a Norman-Arab here. I must admit that I am not a specialist in horses and that this breed is unknown to me, is this a confusion with the Anglo-Norman horse?
The stamp at the top left (100 shillings) is part of a series (5 stamps + 2 sheetlets of 9 stamps + 1 sheetlet of 8 stamps + 5 s/s!) issued on December 23, 1997, devoted to different combat aircrafts, a P-51D here, an American fighter plane used during WWII.
The 3rd stamp (300 shillings) is part of a series (6 stamps) issued on November 15, 1999, devoted to flowers from different parts of the world, Rhaphiolepis umbellata here, a shrub of the Rosaceae family (white or pink flowers), native to Korea, Japan and Taiwan.

Oiseaux et aéronefs en Tanzanie

Birds and aircrafts in Tanzania

Very pleased to publish that day my first letter received from Tanzania, from the city of Dar es Salaam in particular, the ancient capital, largest city and main economic center of the country !
Thank you very much Kun for this cover posted on January 6, 2014 :-)
The three se-tenant stamps on the left are part of a souvenir sheet consisting of 6 stamps, issued in 1994, devoted to different species of African birds, living in Tanzania in particular.
You can see here, from left to right, an African Hawk Eagle (Aquila spilogaster), a common species throughout sub-Saharan Africa, a Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex), an endangered species living in particular in western Tanzania and in the Lake Victoria region, and a Brown snake eagle (Circaetus cinereus), another species of raptor living in sub-Saharan Africa.

The three other se-tenant stamps to the right (300 shillings each), curiously not cancelled, are also part of a souvenir sheet of 6 stamps, issued in 1998, devoted to different aircrafts of the 20th century.
Like many stamps issued in so large numbers at this time in Tanzania (it's sometimes still the case today...), some approximations are noted regarding either the representation of these aircrafts or the years of manufacturing included...
Thus the top's stamp above mentions that this monoplane designed by the French manufacturer Armand Deperdussin (1860-1924) is dating from 1900 while the first aircrafts of this type were manufactured in 1910...
The stamp in the middle features a Ultralight (1979-1986) while the last stamp is dedicated to an amphibious aircraft supposed to have been built between 1929 and 1930. But this aircraft was designed by the American manufacturer Lake Aircraft, established in 1959...
