"50 years of reestablishment of diplomatic relations" joint s/s with Egypt, on FDC from Portugal

Portugal and Egypt share a rich and precious historical and cultural heritage, founded on their common civilizational and geographical origins – the Mediterranean and its entire sphere of influence – and millennia-old ties, such as the maritime aspirations of both nations, which have intersected over time.
Together, the two countries embrace the Mediterranean, guardians of opposite ends of the same shared space.
Their shared history bears witness to a continuity spanning more than two millennia, from the trade routes established by the Phoenicians and Greeks, through the Roman Empire, to the Umayyad and Abbasid caliphates. The humanities, mathematics, the arts, agricultural techniques, and principles of organization and administration circulated across the Mediterranean, reaching both territories and leaving an indelible historical imprint on their respective cultures.
Both countries continue to prioritize freedom of navigation as a vector for cultural and commercial expansion on oceans, seas and rivers, and this axis remains a pillar of their foreign policy, even in the 21st century.

In 1953, Portugal recognized the Republic of Egypt before severing ties in 1963. On February 25, 1975, diplomatic relations were re-established between the two countries.
On January 26, 2026 (originally December 18, 2025), the postal administrations of both countries issued a beautiful joint souvenir sheet (2 stamps) depicting rivers in an urban setting, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Portugal.
The Portuguese version of this souvenir sheet (2 x €1.45 - International 20g, print run: 20,000, design: MAD Activities / Rodrigo Rodrigues based on illustrations by Mina Safwat) was used on the cover above with First Day cancellation from Lisbon. Thank you very much, Pedro!
The stamp on the left shows a view of the Douro River in Porto, the capital of the Northern region of Portugal, featuring the Maria Pia Bridge, a large railway viaduct (designed by Gustave Eiffel), opened in 1877 and decommissioned in 1991. This bridge is sometimes confused with the Dom Luís I Bridge, built between 1881 and 1886.
The other stamp depicts a view of Cairo from the Nile, a river that has played a vital role in Egypt's development and economy for millennia. It prominently features the imposing Cairo Tower (187 meters high, completed in 1961), located on Gezira Island in the Zamalek residential district.

"100 years of consular relations" joint s/s with Egypt, on cover from Hungary

Relations between Egypt and Hungary date back to the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Following the signing of the Treaty of Trianon in 1920 and Hungary's independence, consular relations with Egypt were established in 1924, followed by diplomatic relations in 1927. These diplomatic relations were severed in 1941 due to World War II and reestablished in 1947.
The two countries maintain close ties, particularly in the fields of education and culture, with the presence of numerous Egyptian students at Hungarian universities studying mathematics, engineering, medicine, and agriculture, and through Hungarian excavation missions which began their work in Egypt in 1907 and made important discoveries in Sharouna and Fashn, and then, in 1983, in the Thebes region, including the discovery of the tomb of the nobleman Digihotmos in the Al Khoukha region.
On November 28, 2024, the postal administrations of the two countries put into circulation a joint souvenir sheet dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of these consular relations

The Hungarian version of this souvenir sheet (HUF 1,075, print run: 40,000), designed by Katalin Bódi and Mina Safwat, was used on the above cover sent on December 11, 2024, from the village of Gencsapáti (western Hungary, near the Austrian border). Thank you very much, Janos!
The central element of the souvenir sheet is the official logo of this 100th anniversary, composed of the Hungarian and Egyptian national ribbons, with the margins featuring traditional Hungarian and Egyptian decorative elements.
The other three stamps are part of the definitive "Postal History" series, issued on May 9, 2019 (HUF 70, string holder dating from 1920) and May 4, 2017 (HUF 5, handstamps used between 1867 and 1945 and HUF 10, horse-drawn mail coach used for parcel delivery, between 1867 and 1958), respectively.
Most of the items featured in this series (design: Barnabás Baticz), which began in 2017, are part of the collections of the Postal Museum in Budapest.

Francophonie and Cairo - Capital of Islamic culture stamps on cover from Egypt

The International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) is an organization created in 1970 bringing together 54 member states and governments and 34 observer and associated countries. Its mission is to promote the French language and cultural and linguistic diversity, to promote peace, democracy and human rights, education and research and development of cooperation.
Egypt (around 3% of the population is French-speaking) has been a member of the OIF since 1983 and the Egyptian Post put into circulation, on March 20, 2020, a stamp (5 EGP) dedicated to the 50th anniversary of this organization.
This stamp was used in two copies on this cover sent recently from Egypt, without any cancellation unfortunately. Thank you very much Tristan!
The stamp in the center (10 EGP) was issued on April 10, 2022 to celebrate the designation of the city of Cairo as Capital of Culture in the Islamic World.

The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), an international organization of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and specialized in the fields of education, science, culture and communication in Islamic countries (54 member states), was created in 1982 and has its headquarters in Rabat.
ICESCO has designated a Capital of Culture in the Islamic World every year since 2005, Cairo for example for the year 2020 initially. Due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, this celebration has been postponed until 2022.
Cairo, sometimes nicknamed the "city of 1000 minarets", has a unique position as a meeting place of cultures through successive eras, an important center for culture and creativity and a point of cultural convergence between the Orient and the West.
Rabat was also Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for 2022, Nouakchott for 2023, Marrakech for 2024, Samarkand for 2025...
Tristan also used two small identical stamps (30 EGP), issued on October 24, 2022, part of a definitive series dedicated to archaeology, to the Narmer palette here.
This is a cosmetic palette (kept in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo) dating from the 32nd century BC and which bears among the oldest known hieroglyphs. The inscriptions it bears evoke the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt by King Narmer.

"50 years of diplomatic relations" joint stamp with Egypt, on cover from United Arab Emirates

From October 26 to 28, 2022, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates celebrated in Cairo the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The United Arab Emirates gained independence from the British protectorate in 1971, establishing relations with countries in the region in the following months.
One of its oldest and strongest ties has been with Egypt, with the UAE becoming one of the top investors in that country in recent years.
In the first nine months of 2022, the Gulf state accounted for 72% of total Arab investment in the country, sending $4.6 billion to support Egyptian industry and commerce...
It should also be noted that the United Arab Emirates supported the military coup of July 3, 2013 in Egypt, against President Morsi, for the benefit of General Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, still in power today.

Characterized by mutual respect and a brotherly relationship that reflects the shared values between the two countries and their people, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt have worked closely together to further increase alliances in various sectors, including the economy, politics, education, media and culture.
These ongoing relations between the two nations serve as a model for bilateral relations between Arab countries.
On this occasion and under the theme "Egypt and the United Arab Emirates - One heart", the postal administrations of the two countries have put into circulation, on January 19, 2023, a joint souvenir sheet, consisting of a large format stamp, devoted to the 50th anniversary of these bilateral relations.
The Emirati stamp (3 AED), with year 2022, extracted here from the souvenir sheet, was used on this pretty cover sent on February 17, 2023 from Dubai. Thank you very much Mohammed!
This stamp features the flags of the two countries with, in the center, the official logo of this 50th anniversary (in golden color), inspired by the pyramids of Giza, with a reference to the 7 emirates constituting the United Arab Emirates.

"Tunisia-Egypt Cultural Year" joint stamp with Egypt, on FDC from Tunisia

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Tunisian counterpart Kais Saied agreed in April 2021, during the latter's visit to Cairo, to declare 2021-2022 as the Year of Egyptian-Tunisian Culture by activating joint cultural and artistic activities in all aspects in both Egypt and Tunisia, thus reflecting the common history between the two peoples and the existing level of communication and interaction between them.
This year of culture was reaffirmed in May 2022 during the visit to Tunisia of the Egyptian Prime Minister who, among other things, visited the City of Culture Chedli-Klibi, inaugurated in 2018 in Tunis.
During this visit, an exhibition dedicated to Arabic calligraphy was organized, celebrating its inscription (involving 16 countries of the Arab world, including Tunisia and Egypt) in December 2021 by UNESCO on the list of intangible cultural heritage.

In order to celebrate this cultural year between the 2 countries, the postal administrations of Tunisia and Egypt put into circulation, on June 30, 2022, a joint stamp.
The Tunisian version of this stamp (0.9 dinars, print run: 300,000) is present on this cover with First Day postmarks (flags and maps of the 2 countries). Thank you very much Mourad!
This joint stamp, including the flags of the 2 countries, illustrates 2two of the most important religious sites of the two countries, the Al-Azhar mosque in Cairo (on the right, with its dome and 3 minarets) and the Zitouna mosque in Tunis (on the left, with in particular part of the courtyard and the bahou cupola).
Al-Azhar Mosque, founded in 970, is one of the oldest mosques in Cairo and the seat of al-Azhar University, the oldest Islamic university still active in the world after Quaraouiyine in Morocco and Zitouna University in Tunisia. It should be noted that the city of Cairo was designated Capital of culture in the Islamic world in 2022.
Zitouna Mosque, founded in 698, is the oldest and largest sanctuary in the medina of Tunis, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. It takes up the typology of the mosques of Cordoba and Kairouan with its trapezoid courtyard framed by a gallery dating from the 10th century.

"Post Day - The Green Army" stamps on cover from Egypt

After a tribute to the White Army through a stamp put into circulation on October 20, 2020, dedicated to the Covid-19 pandemic and in particular to all these health workers, who have heroically fought against this scourge in the country since March 2020, the Egyptian Post issued another stamp on January 2, 2021, this time evoking the Green Army.
This stamp was issued on the occasion of the National Post Day, the term "Green Army" referring to the employees of the Egyptian Post who continued to work and to serve the inhabitants during this pandemic.

"75th anniversary of the United Nations" stamp on cover from Egypt

In 2020, many postal administrations have issued stamps dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the creation of the United Nations: Kyrgyzstan, Slovakia, Russia, Moldova, Belarus, United Nations Postal Administration, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, Portugal, Turkey, Slovenia, Tunisia, Italia, Serbia, Myanmar, Poland, Pakistan, Oman, Lebanon, Iraq, Singapore, India, Azerbaijan, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Bosnia & Herzegovina (Serbian Republic), Bulgaria, Egypt, Wallis & Futuna ...
As a reminder, 51 countries founded the United Nations in 1945 following the ratification of the United Nations Charter in San Francisco on October 24, 1945.
Egypt was one of these founding countries and the Egyptian Post issued, at the beginning of February 2021 it seems (I do not know the exact date), a stamp dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the United Nations.

This stamp (£E 5), printed in 2020, was used in 3 copies on this nice letter sent on February 20, 2021 from Cairo, with blue postmarks from the "Pyramids" Postal Service Center. Thank you very much Mohammed!
The official logo of this 75th anniversary of the United Nations (United Nations emblem, mention "UN75" with the associated slogan "Shaping our future together") is not reproduced on this stamp, simply mixing the emblem of the United Nations and the number 75.
Egypt has been a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council on 5 occasions, between 1946 and 2017.
The small stamp to the left (£E 2.50), issued on September 12, 2018, is dedicated to the Amon temple in Luxor, especially the large colonnade of Amenhotep III dating from the 18th Dynasty (-1550 / -1292).

"Covid-19 pandemic - Tribute to the White Army" stamps on cover from Egypt

Merci beaucoup Mohammed !
Like many other postal administrations around the world, the Egyptian Post put into circulation, on October 20, 2020, a special stamp (£E 5, unknown print run and designer) dedicated to the Covid-19 pandemic and in particular paying tribute to the white army, all these health workers, who have heroically fought against this scourge in the country since March 2020.
With a slogan "White Army, you are in our hearts", this stamp was used in triplicate on the letter below sent on November 19, 2020 from Cairo (with additional blue postmarks from the "Pyramides" Postal Service Center, dated November 16, 2020). Thank you very much Mohammed!

I find this stamp rather successful, with these 4 representatives of the medical world (doctor, nurse ...) with, on the background, the Egyptian flag and stethoscope, electrocardiogram and a stylized red heart.
The 1st case of Covid-19 was recorded in Egypt on February 14, 2020 and to date, nearly 150,000 cases have been identified and around 8,000 deaths, making Egypt one of the most affected countries in Africa.

Thank you very much Mohammed for this lovely letter sent on December 11, 2019 from Cairo, more specifically from the "Pyramids" Postal Service Center, franked with 4 copies of this stamp!

Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) on cover from Egypt

Modern relations between Egypt and India date back to contacts between Saad Zaghloul, leader of the El-Wafd party, and Mahatma Gandhi on the common objectives of their respective independence movements.
Gandhi visited Egypt in 1931, passing through Port Said on his journey by boat to England where he was due to attend a conference. In Port Said, Gandhi was welcomed by a delegation from Egypt's El-Wafd party.
The Egyptian population remained very attached to the principles of non-violence defended by Gandhi, including during the demonstrations of 2011 on Tahrir Square which led to the resignation of President Mubarak ...
The Egyptian Post therefore logically, like a hundred other postal administrations around the world, issued a stamp in 2019 dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948).

This stamp (£E 5) was put into circulation on November 6, 2019, during a ceremony in Cairo in the presence of Egyptian ministers and officials and the Ambassador of India to Egypt, Rahul Kulshresth.
Thank you very much Mohammed for this nice letter sent on December 11, 2019 from Cairo, more precisely from the "Pyramids" Postal Services Center, franked with 3 copies of this stamp!
The same day, a Gandhi's bust was inaugurated in the Al-Horreya gardens in Cairo (Zamalek district).
Mahatma Gandhi ("Mahatma" meaning "venerable"), born in 1869 in Pordanbar (state of Gujarat), nicknamed the "Father of the Nation" in India, was one of the pioneers of the country's independence movement, advocating disobedience, non-violence and the concept of "swaraj" (self-determination).
He was assassinated in 1948 by a Hindu fanatic. Gandhi was the inspiration for many freedom and civil rights movements around the world.

"Al Quds, capital of Palestine" joint stamp on cover from Egypt

On October 9, 2019, the World Post Day, a new unified Arab postage stamp was put into circulation, having for theme this year "Al Quds, capital of Palestine".
This issue, eminently political, aims to recall the position of the member countries of the League of Arab States concerning the spiritual and religious status of Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem), considered as the capital of the state of Palestine.
Jerusalem has been a point of tension between Jews and Muslims for 70 years, the state of Israel having made West Jerusalem its capital in 1949 and then "reunited" Jerusalem in 1967.
For the international community, East Jerusalem is considered as "occupied" by Israel even though Jerusalem was proclaimed Israel's "eternal capital" in 1980 and then capital of Palestine in 1988, although the Palestinian Authority does not sit there.
According to the international community, the status of the city has to be negotiated between Israelis and Palestinians.

This joint stamp is clearly a response from the League of Arab States countries to the recent projects of embassy transfers of some countries in Israel to Jerusalem, the USA in particular ...
At a technical committee (held on February 7, 2019) evaluating the proposed models for the unified Arab postage stamp for the year 2019, the Arab countries have selected the project proposed by the Algerian ministry of Posts, a creation made by the visual artist Teyeb Laidi (born in 1971).
Thank you very much Mohammed for this nice letter sent on October 31, 2019 from Cairo, specifically from the "Pyramids" Postal Services Center (postal code 12556), franked with 3 of these joint stamps (£E 5)!
This stamp, issued on October 9, 2019, is featuring the Dome of the Rock which houses the "Rock of the foundation", the place where, according to the Muslim tradition, Muhammad arrived in Jerusalem from Mecca. With the Al-Aqsa Mosque, this site is one of the Muslim holy places on the Temple Mount.
A Palestinian flag, two doves as well as the emblem of the League of Arab States are also featured on this stamp.
To date, it seems that this joint stamp has been issued by Algeria, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, Morocco, Qatar, Jordan, United Arab Emirates and Tunisia.

"Egypt-France: Suez Canal 150th anniversary" stamp on cover from Egypt

On October 3, 2019, the two postal administrations of France and Egypt put into circulation a stamp dedicated to the same theme, the 150th anniversary of the Suez Canal
Announced as a joint issue in France, the two stamps are unfortunately different, including however the same portraits of Ferdinand de Lesseps, diplomat and French entrepreneur behind the construction of this Canal, and Ismail Pasha, Khedive of Egypt and Sudan during the inauguration of the Canal on November 17, 1869.
Thank you very much Mohammed for this beautiful letter sent on October 21, 2019 from Cairo, specifically from the "Pyramids" Postal Services Center (postal code 12556), franked with 3 of these stamps!

Exceptionally, this stamp (£E 5) includes mentions in French and represents, in the background, the impressive building of the Suez Canal Authority in Port Said.
I do not know exactly what the lower part of this stamp (a sun?) refers to?
The idea of creating a sea passage between the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea is very old, with projects initiated for example by pharaohs of the Middle Kingdom or during the Campaign of Egypt by General Bonaparte from 1798.
Based on the plans drawn up by Linant de Bellefonds and Alois Negrelli, adopted by the International Commission for the Suez Isthmus, the Universal Suez Canal Company of Ferdinand de Lesseps (1805-1894) was authorized to construct the Canal between 1859 and 1869.
190 km long, 280 to 345 m wide and 22.5 m deep, this Canal connects, via three natural lakes, the port city of Port Said in the Mediterranean Sea and the city of Suez in the Gulf of Suez.
Different types of ships, more or less old, are finally featured on this stamp.

"France-Egypt: Suez Canal 150th anniversary" stamp on FDC from France

On October 3, 2019 (First Day of issue), the two postal administrations of France and Egypt put into circulation a stamp dedicated to the same theme, the 150th anniversary of the Suez Canal.
Thank you very much Joël for this First Day cover regarding the French stamp (€ 1.30, print run: 500,000), designed by Stéphane Humbert-Basset, with postmarks from Paris!
Stéphane Humbert-Basset also designed the First Day postmark, apparently inspired by the yacht "L'Aigle" aboard which Empress Eugénie participated in the inauguration of this Canal in 1869.
Stéphane Humbert-Basset signed this envelope, under the stamp!

The background of the stamp was designed from an engraving by Auguste Marc evoking the inauguration of this Canal and in particular the parade of ships.
On November 17, 1869, the imperial yacht "L'Aigle" entered the Canal first, followed by an imposing procession of about forty ships carrying Khedive Ismail Pasha, the Emperor of Austria, the Royal Prince of Prussia, the Princes of the Netherlands and Hanover, or the ambassadors of England and Russia.

"Philatelic Society of Egypt 90th anniversary" stamp on cover from Cairo

From 9 to 15 September 2019, a major continental philatelic exhibition was held in Cairo to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Philatelic Society of Egypt - PSE (originally called the "Philatelic Club of Egypt").
Six Arab countries and the Egypt Study Circle (founded in 1935 in London) participated in this exhibition.
The Egyptian Post also celebrated this PSE's 90th anniversary by putting into circulation, on September 9, 2019, a special stamp (£E 5).

This stamp has been used in 3 copies on this interesting letter above, with on the left the special (oval) cachet, dated September 9, 2019, put into circulation during this exhibition in Cairo. Thank you very much Mohammed!
To note also these two other blue round postmarks with mention of the "Pyramids" Postal Services Center (postal code 12556) of September 16, 2019 and this 4th black cancellation at the center, applied on September 18, 2019 (by the central post office of Cairo?).
This stamp was designed from the emblem of the Philatelic Society of Egypt, including a scarab, and a composition around the number 90 (in black, white and green).
The scarab represents the god Khepri, symbol of the rebirth of the Sun (symbol of rebirth for the dead and a protective emblem for the living persons), in Ancient Egypt.

"2019 Africa Football Cup of Nations" stamp set on cover from Egypt

Egypt finally replaced Cameroon for the organization of the 32nd edition of the African Cup of Nations of football, from 21 June to 19 July 2019, with matches held in Cairo (3 different stadiums), Alexandria, Suez and Ismailia.
Organized in general every 2 years (odd years), this competition (1st edition in 1957) gathered for the first time this year 24 teams and it is Algeria which was crowned African Champion by beating Senegal (1-0) in the final.
Egypt, beaten in the round of 16 by South Africa (1-0) remains the country that has won the most times (7 times) this African Cup, ahead of Cameroon (5 times) and Ghana (4 times).
On June 21, 2019, the Egyptian Post put into circulation a nice series (3 stamps + 1 souvenir sheet) dedicated to this competition.

The 3 se-tenant stamps (4 £E each), including the word "EGYPT" in the background, as well as the souvenir sheet (5 £E, imperforated), are present on the beautiful letter above sent on August 30, 2019 from Cairo, specifically from the "Pyramids" Postal Services Center (postal code 12556). Thank you very much, Mohammed!
To note the application of an additional black postmark on September 1, 2019 (Cairo central post office?) and the presence of rectangular First Day cancellations.
These cancellations feature the logo of this competition (appeared in January 2017) of which the French company Total is the main sponsor until 2024.
The trophy awarded to the winner and the mascot Tut (a young footballer evoking Tutankhamun) are depicted on the souvenir sheet next to the Egyptian flag, as well as on the stamp on the right.
An approximate map of Africa (absence of South Sudan and Madagascar, incorrect flags of Mauritania, Libya or the Democratic Republic of Congo) is shown on the stamp on the left.
Unless I am mistaken, only some of the main monuments of Cairo are included in the background on these 3 stamps (Mohammed Ali Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque, Giza Pyramids, Cairo Tower).

Euromed Postal 2019 (Costumes in the Mediterranean) stamp set on cover from Egypt

After the "Houses of the Mediterranean" in 2018, the 14 participating postal administrations have issued this year different "Euromed Postal" stamps devoted to traditional types of costumes around the Mediterranean Sea.
Since 2014, some member countries (currently 22 in total) of the Postal Union for the Mediterranean (PUMed), a restricted union of the UPU, are indeed issuing each year stamps devoted to a common theme related to the Mediterranean region.
If I am not mistaken, the Egyptian Post issued "Euromed Postal" stamps in 2014 (common design) and 2018 (Houses of the Mediterranean) and put into circulation, on July 8, 2019, a series of 3 stamps including the Euromed Postal logo (a stylized hawk), to illustrate this theme of the Costumes in the Mediterranean.

These 3 se-tenant stamps (£E 4.00, print run: 75,000 each) are present on the envelope above sent on July 14, 2019 from Cairo, specifically from the "Pyramids" Postal Service Center (postal code 12556). Thank you very much, Mohammed!
The region of the Mediterranean Sea is characterized by various traditional costumes and especially Egypt whose history has been marked by a large number of different civilizations, pharaonic, Roman, Coptic or Islamic.
The first stamp on the right represents the ornaments and costumes of the ancient Egyptian (Pharaohs) civilization which constitutes the true historical heritage of the Egyptians, the middle stamp being dedicated to the region of Nubia (southern Egypt) and the stamp on the left representing the coastal area, especially traditional costumes worn during the fishermen's dance.
The 4th definitive stamp above (£E 1.00), issued on May 25, 2002, seems to represent the pyramid of Meidum, a pyramid with degree (7 degrees initially) built during the 4th dynasty (-2670 / -2450) by Pharaoh Houni, at the entrance of Fayum region.

Pharaohs, temple, pyramid and culture on postcard from Egypt

Thank you very much Terence for this nice postcard sent on December 19, 2018 from Cairo (to note these two blue postmarks including only Arabic characters), the capital of the Arab Republic of Egypt!
Terence franked this postcard (£E 7.50, £E 1.00 = 100 piastres) with 4 small definitive stamps evoking, as is the case for almost all of this type of stamp issued by the Egyptian Post, the rich heritage dating from the time of the pharaohs.

I do not know exactly which pharaohs are featured on the two stamps on the left above, issued respectively on May 25, 2002 (25 piastres) and in 2017 (125 piastres) ...
The following stamp (£E 2.50), issued on September 12, 2018, is dedicated to the Amon temple in Luxor, especially the large colonnade of Amenhotep III dating from the 18th Dynasty (-1550 / -1292).
The last definitive stamp (£E 1), issued on May 25, 2002, seems to represent the pyramid of Meidum, a pyramid with degree (7 degrees initially) built during the 4th dynasty (-2670 / -2450) by Pharaoh Houni, at the entrance of Fayum region.
The last stamp on the right (£E 2.50), issued on October 14, 2018, is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, with an evocation of literature, song or cinema.

Azerbaijan-Egypt joint stamp issue: culture and tourism

The Egyptian Post issued on May 28, 2012, two se-tenant stamps devoted to the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Azerbaijan, with particular a focus on iconic cultural and tourist sites of the two countries.
Surprisingly, a souvenir sheet was unveiled on October 18, 2012 by the Azerbaijan Post, on the same theme, including the similar two stamps (60 qəpik each)...
This joint souvenir sheet (design: Khasay Mirzoyev, print run: 10,000) was used to frank the letter below sent on November 7, 2017 from Baku, the capital.
Since the independence of Azerbaijan in 1991, the two countries have started to establish relations in many fields (political, economic, cultural and educational) and Egypt opened its embassy in Baku in 1993, while the Azerbaijan's first embassy on the African continent was established in Cairo in 1994.

This souvenir sheet, with vignettes on the right and on the left featuring the flags of the 2 countries, evokes in particular the famous Giza pyramid complex (Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinos) with the sphinx in the foreground, built around 2500 BC (a UNESCO world heritage site since 1979).
The other stamp depicts the Maiden Tower, a fortified tower integrated in the 12th century to the defense system of the "Old City" of Baku, as well as the Shirvanshahs' Palace (15th century) classified on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2000.
The margins of this souvenir sheet are interesting because they represent Egyptian hieroglyphs on the right (not precisely identified?) and on the left, some examples of petroglyphs characteristic of the rock art of the Gobustan reserve in Azerbaijan, a cultural landscape also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2007.

Journée de la Poste 2014 en Egypte

Post Day 2014 in Egypt

Merci beaucoup Mohamed :-)
As every year, the Egyptian Post has devoted its first stamp issue in 2014 to the Post Day, celebrated on January 2.
It seems that this date was chosen to commemorate the nationalization, on January 2, 1865, by the Egyptian government of the "Posta Europea", a postal administration created a few years ago in Alexandria by an Italian...
This year, the Egypt Post has issued this interesting imperforated souvenir sheet (value : £ 4) used to frank the nice cover below posted on January 16, 2014 at the Mohandseen post office located in the city of Giza, in the south west of Cairo. Thank you very much Mohamed :-)

To note this curiosity about the two postmarks applied to this sheet : the mentions in Arabic are listed right side up while the date is upside down !
For this Post Day 2014, the Egypt Post has chosen to highlight contemporary art with this work of the painter M. Sabry depicting a nilometer, seeming to have been inspired by the one built from the 11th century on the Rhoda island...
This type of structure has a system (often a graduated pillar) to measure changes in heights of the Nile water.

Mohamed has also used three identical stamps (£ 0.50) on the back of this letter (see above), issued on October 7, 2013, being part of a definitive series (4 stamps) featuring pharaoh statues, Thutmosis III here.
To note the mechanical cancellation dated January 21, 2014, applied on this letter in the sorting center in Cairo, before leaving Egypt.
Thutmosis III, the fifth pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty, is featured on this statue (Cairo Museum) offering nou vases (containing wine or milk) to the god Amon-Rê.
