"Maurice de Vlaminck (1876-1958)" stamp on FDC from France

In conjunction with the ParisPhilex 2026 stamp exhibition held in Paris from June 11 to 14, 2026, the French Post has put into circulation a beautiful souvenir sheet (containing four €6.00 stamps) commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of the painter, ceramicist, printmaker, and writer Maurice de Vlaminck (1876–1958).
A great admirer of Vincent van Gogh—whose work was introduced to him by his friend André Derain—Maurice de Vlaminck frequently drew inspiration from him in his early paintings.
Paying little heed to compositional structure, he focused instead on the spatial and emotional qualities of color. Vlaminck subsequently transitioned from Impressionism to Fauvism—a style that was more rebellious and unbridled.
Maurice de Vlaminck's personality—characterized by vigor and robustness—is clearly reflected in his painting style, which features rich, heavy impasto and broad, confident brushstrokes.
Later, between 1907 and 1910, the influence of Paul Cézanne, combined with that of Cubism, softened his technique, though he retained the bold use of color that defined his Fauvist period.

The influence of his Cézanne-inspired period persisted until 1927. From then until his death, Vlaminck's painting style stabilized, becoming darker, more vehement, and more lyrical.
A self-taught artist who relied on instinct and distrusted reason, Vlaminck—a giant of 20th-century art—is represented in major museums worldwide.
The upper section of this souvenir sheet (print run: 35,000)—which includes a reissue of the "Still Life" (1907, Musée d'Orsay) stamp originally released in 1976—appears on the cover above, with First Day cancellations from Paris dated June 13, 2026.
This stamp was designed by Ségolène Carron based on the 1976 stamp engraved by Pierre Béquet. Notably, the other three stamps in the souvenir sheet reproduce the same painting at various stages of the intaglio printing process (showing the application of blue, beige, and red colors, respectively).
This luminous composition relies on a dynamic interplay of masses: the vertical lines of the blue vase (containing greenish foliage) and the table legs contrast with the horizontal lines of the tabletop and the basket of red-orange fruit resting on a patterned tablecloth or a simple piece of crumpled fabric.
A blue, geometric-style backdrop forms the background of the painting; a tilted picture frame on the wall conveys a sense of compositional imbalance, seemingly echoing the instability of the table and the fruit basket.

"Belfort - Tour de France 2026's stage city" postmark on cover from France

The Tour de France already passed more than 30 times by the city of Belfort (11 times as a departure city, 4 time as an arrival city) since 1907.
For the 113th edition of the Tour de France, from July 4 to 26, 2026, Belfort was the arrival city of the 13th and longest stage, on July 17 (206 km between Dole and Belfort).
The very active and dynamic local stamp association Amicale Philatélique de l'Est-Belfort (Aphiest-Belfort) could not miss this opportunity and put into circulation on July 17, 2026, a special postmark dedicated to this  arrival of the 13th stage of the Tour de France.

This special postmark—depicting a cyclist and the famous Lion of Belfort, a monumental statue commemorating the city's resistance against the Prussian siege during the War of 1870—was applied to the cover above.
In partnership with La Poste, a temporary post office was set up in Belfort on July 17, 2026, with notably the release of a personalized stamp.
This stamp ("Green Letter 20g" rate, unknown print run), which commemorates this 2026 stage finish, was used on the envelope above. It depicts a cyclist and the Lion of Belfort on the left, as well as the bandstand (located in the Place d'Armes) and the tower of Fort de la Miotte on the right.

This same stamp is present on the maxicard above (unknown print run), designed from the same illustration, a cyclist and the "Lion de Belfort" statue.

"Hôtel de Soubise – 99th FFAP Congress" stamps on FDC from France

In conjunction with the ParisPhilex 2026 stamp exhibition held in Paris from June 11 to 14, 2026, the French Post has put into circulation a stamp dedicated to the Hôtel de Soubise, with an adjoining label mentioning the 99th Congress of the FFAP (French Federation of Philatelic Associations).
Designed and engraved by Elsa Catelin, this stamp (€1.52; print run: 702,000)—printed in sheetlet of 10— was used in two copies on the cover below, with First Day cancellation (June 11, 2026) from Paris.
Also designed by Elsa Catelin, the postmark depicts a detail from a bas-relief sculpture located above the entrance porch of the Hôtel de Soubise in Paris. It shows a female face surrounded by symbols of abundance, notably cornucopias spilling out fruit and ears of wheat.
This same bas-relief is featured in the top margin of the sheetlet. Notably, the attached label also references the 100th anniversary of the FIP (International Federation of Philately), celebrated in 2026.

In the 18th century, architects Pierre Alexis Delamair and Germain Boffrand transformed the former Hôtel de Guise into a sumptuous private mansion for the Rohan-Soubise family.
Situated in the heart of the highly aristocratic Marais district, the vast palace was given a new look, allowing the family to express the importance of their rank at the court of the Sun King in stone.
Delamair built a spectacular ceremonial courtyard, where a double-columned peristyle frames a monumental façade—redesigned in the Classical style—that is visible on the stamp.
From 1736 onwards, Boffrand devoted his efforts to the interior décor. For the project, he assembled the finest painters, sculptors, and ornamental artists of the era, including François Boucher, Charles Natoire, Jean-Baptiste II Lemoyne, and Jacques Verberckt.
These salons rank among the finest examples of *rocaille* art—a refined decorative style that was in vogue during the reign of Louis XV.
During the Revolution in 1789, the Hôtel de Soubise was sequestered and subsequently sold to satisfy the family's creditors. The State acquired the property via an imperial decree on March 6, 1808, and it was officially designated to house the Imperial Archives. In 1867, the National Archives Museum was established within the mansion's state rooms.

"The Little Prince - 80th anniversary (French edition)" NFT s/s on cover from France

The novella "The Little Prince", published in 1943 (in the United States) by the famous French writer and pioneering aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944), is sometimes considered as one of the most famous books in the world, with the Bible and "Capital" by Karl Marx ...
Under the semblance of a children's fairy tale, "The Little Prince" is intended as a poetic and philosophical tale with a simple writing emphasizing the absurd behavior of adults.
When the Little Prince leaves his asteroid B-612, he discovers on Earth the loneliness and absurdity of life and tells his story to an aviator who, following an engine failure, had to crash-land in the Sahara Desert...
"If you please... draw me a sheep !", "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye" are some of the sentences taken from this book, today being part of our collective imagination.

Surprisingly, few postal administrations have previously issued stamps featuring this character of The Little Prince: Israel, Croatia, New Caledonia, Poland, Equatorial Guinea, Germany, Thailand, Japan, Argentina, Bulgaria, Serbia, or France (1998, 2021).
On May 19, 2026, the French Post released a new #NFTimbre8 set (comprising 4 souvenir sheets) to mark the 80th anniversary of the first French edition of *The Little Prince*—the most translated book in the world, boasting over 650 official translations!
These numbered souvenir sheets (€8.00; designed by Agence Artpoint) are issued in a classic physical format, accompanied by a digital twin—sold exclusively via the NFTimbre platform.
The souvenir sheet above is part of a limited release of 6,000 packs (with the 4 souvenir sheets numbered 000001 through 006000). This cover was sent from Paris on June 11, 2026, with a special "Nature in Paris" (Wallace fountain) postmark issued duting the ParisPhilex 2026 stamp exhibition.
This exclusive collection reinterprets the poetry and sensitivity of *The Little Prince* through contemporary 3D modeling that gives the work a new dimension. Each souvenir sheet features hot stamping with a metallic blue effect highlighting the title "Le Petit Prince" as well as certain stars.
This souvenir sheet depicts the Little Prince and the fox—a spiritual guide who helps the Little Prince gain wisdom—on Asteroid B-612.

On June 15, 2026 (general sale), the French Post issued a new stamp (€2.25; print run: 705,000)—printed in a sheetlet of 15 stamps with illustrated margins—to mark the 80th anniversary of the first French edition of *The Little Prince*, the most translated book in the world, boasting over 650 official translations!
Two self-adhesive stamps from the booklet (print run: 2,060,500; design: Studio Pekelo) were used on the postcard above, with First Day cancellation from Paris dated June 11, 2026.

These two stamps depict, respectively, the Little Prince resting on a bed of stars, and the Little Prince with the fox (a spiritual guide who helps him gain wisdom) sitting in a cardboard box and gazing at the sky.
This postcard, released on May 19, 2026, is part of a set of four different cards (priced at €7.00) sold by Philaposte and also dedicated to the Little Prince.
All these cards feature the Little Prince alongside the Eiffel Tower; the card above also includes the rose—a flower that plays a pivotal role in the story, because without it, the Little Prince would never have come to Earth or met the aviator. It symbolizes the complexities of romantic relationships and is the constant focus of the Little Prince's thoughts.
An iconic quote from the book is also printed (in gold ink) on each of these cards: "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye" here.

"Ron Agam - I love France from the depth of my heart" stamp on FDC from France

Ron Agam is a French-Israeli visual artist, painter, and photographer born in 1958. Raised between Paris and Rehovot (Israel), he lived for many years in New York and currently resides in Miami.
A Chevalier of the Legion of Honour, he is the son of the renowned kinetic art pioneer Yaacov Agam.
He began his career in fine art photography and published several books. Ron Agam did not start painting and drawing until the age of 50 (in 2011), achieving immediate success.
His paintings draw strong inspiration from Russian Constructivism (Malevich, El Lissitzky).
He explores visual perception by creating three-dimensional (3-DK) holographic and lenticular works. His creations encourage viewers to move around in order to observe how the forms shift when viewed from different angles. He works with vibrant, saturated abstract geometric structures.

On June 15, 2026 (general sale), the French Post issued a beautiful stamp featuring an iconic work by Ron Agam.
This stamp (€2.25; print run: 610,200), printed in sheetlet of 12, was used on the cover above, with First Day cancellation from Paris dated June 11, 2026.
The postmark (design: Emmanuel Vedrenne) depicts the cap Ron Agam frequently wears when attending exhibitions of his work.
Titled "I Love France from the Depth of My Heart," this stamp is an intimate declaration born of gratitude and deep attachment. Through its light, culture, and enduring creative spirit, France has nurtured his vision and shaped his sensibility, leaving an indelible mark...
This relationship is visually expressed in the stamp itself. The heart is not merely a symbol but a living form composed of successive layers in the colors of the French flag.
These repeated contours create a sense of depth that draws the eye inward, like a continuous emotional movement. Each layer evokes time, memory, and the intensity of a love built slowly over the course of many experiences.
Notably, a transparent iridescent film has been applied to the stamp to diffract the image and approximate the lenticular effect of the original artwork.

"Nikos Aliagas – Millennial Dance" stamp on FDC from France

Born in Paris to Greek parents in 1969, journalist and entertainer Nikos Aliagas has always divided his life between two worlds: France, where he grew up and still lives, and Greece, whose language and heritage remain an integral part of him.
For over twenty years, he has also been a photographer—a pursuit he views not merely as an extension of his professional career, but as an inner necessity.
Through his portraits, landscapes, and photo essays, Nikos Aliagas seeks less to document the world than to capture its unseen essence. His photographs focus on faces etched by time, simple gestures, vanishing trades, landscapes steeped in memory, and the traces left by successive generations. His gaze lingers on what remains when the noise of the world fades away.
This artistic journey has led to numerous exhibitions and publications, including *L'Épreuve du temps*  - a true photographic manifesto centered on memory, the passing down of heritage, and human dignity.

His photographs have also been exhibited at numerous cultural institutions in France, Greece, and abroad.
Greece holds a special place in his photographic world. Among the recurring motifs in his work, olive trees occupy a central position. Since his childhood in the Missolonghi region, he has regularly returned to these ancient trees; their trunks, sculpted by the wind and the seasons, appear to him as living archives.
On June 15, 2026 (general sale), the French Post issued a stamp (€3.10; print run: 448,200)—printed in sheetlet of nine—featuring a photograph by Nikos Aliagas titled "Danse millénaire" ("Millennial Dance").
This stamp was used on the cover above, with First Day cancellation from Paris dated June 11, 2026.
The postmark depicts the Owl of Athena, a symbol of Greece, knowledge, and wisdom.
This photograph, showing two intertwined ancient olive trees, pays tribute to the olive tree as a universal symbol of peace, the passing on of heritage, and resilience. It also celebrates a particular vision of the Mediterranean: a world where deep roots never hinder openness to others.
Notably, this stamp incorporates augmented reality via a QR code; scanning it with Philaposte's dedicated app (Phil'appli) brings the image to life and allows the viewer to hear the artist's voice.

"190 Years of Harness Racing" souvenir sheet on FDC from France

Harness racing is a type of equestrian sport in which trotting horses pull a sulky, guided by a driver. These horses must trot as fast as possible to reach the finish line first without ever breaking into a gallop; doing so results in disqualification.
The first trotting races in France were organized in 1836 through the initiative of Ephrem Houël, an officer of the National Stud Farms, with the assistance of the Cherbourg municipality.
Houël proposed organizing races for local horses, mandating a trotting gait to create the spectacle of a tight, grouped competition and avoid the scattering effect seen with galloping horse packs.
On September 25 and 26, 1836, the municipality of Cherbourg became the first to host this equestrian event, immediately drawing a massive crowd from both the town and the surrounding countryside. The success of these events prompted cities such as Caen, Dieppe (1837), Saint-Lô, Angers, Boulogne-sur-Mer (1838), Langonnet (1839), and many others to follow suit.

In 1852, there were 26 trotting races held in France.
The first trotting race bulletin was published in 1867. Serving as the official journal of the sport, it continues to be published weekly to this day.
In 1873, the Paris-Vincennes racecourse drew a crowd of over 100,000 people. In 1920, the now-renowned Prix d'Amérique (named in honor of the Allies) was held there for the first time.
Even today, with 155 race meetings and 1,254 races annually, the Paris-Vincennes racecourse remains the flagship venue for harness racing.
On June 15, 2026 (general sale), the French Post put into circulation a souvenir sheet (€2.25; print run: 200,000) commemorating the 190th anniversary of trotting races in France.
Designed by heritage architect Wandrille Thieulin (layout by Emmanuel Vedrenne), this souvenir sheet was used on the cover above, with First Day cancellations from Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (50 - Manche department), dated June 11, 2026.
It is worth noting that the preview sale of this souvenir sheet also took place in Paris and Boissy-Saint-Léger.
I quite like the stamp's graphic design - featuring stylized horses in motion - and the contrast between black and red as well as the enthusiasm of the spectators watching these trotting races, featured in the margins.

"The Little Prince - 80th anniversary (French edition)" stamp on FDC from France

This stamp (designed by Studio Pekelo), featuring an original illustration of the Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, was used on the cover above with First Day cancellation from Paris dated June 11, 2026.

"Passion Nature - Meeting with the European bee-eater" stamps on FDC from France

Following four previous "Passion Nature" collector sets dedicated to the deer, fox, bee, and squirrel, the French Post released a new collector set (featuring four different stamps) entitled "Meeting with the European Bee-eater", during the ParisPhilex stamp exhibition held from June 11 to 13, 2026.
Based on photographs by Michel Chardin, the four self-adhesive stamps in this set ("Green Letter 20g" rate; print run: 8,000; selling price: €7.50) depict the European Bee-eater (Merops apiaste), arguably one of the most colorful birds living in mainland France.
The four stamps from this set have been used on the cover below, with corresponding postmarks from Paris, dated June 13, 2026.

The European bee-eater is a migratory bird that returns each year—starting in May—to breed in France, along watercourses, where it excavates its nest and lives in colonies.
At the end of summer, it embarks on a long and perilous journey to West and South Africa. Its increasingly frequent presence in Northern Europe appears linked to global warming; it is no longer rare to spot the bird in the Jura, Aisne, Brittany, and Île-de-France regions, or even in Belgium.
As its name suggests, this passerine feeds primarily on large flying insects, such as wasps, hornets, honeybees, and bumblebees...
While still relatively numerous and not currently classified as a threatened species, the degradation of its habitat due to human activity poses a challenge for its reproduction.
This bird previously appeared on a "Nature Conservation – Camargue" engraved stamp issued in 1960 and on one of the stamps in the "Tender Animals" booklet issued in 2023.

"Hubertine Auclert (1848-1914)" stamp on FDC from France

In the political context of the Third Republic, the qualifier "French suffragette" for Hubertine Auclert (1848-1914) immediately underscores the singularity of this woman.
While her contemporaries opted for a gradualist strategy, first demanding equal civil rights, Hubertine Auclert campaigned for women's political rights.
For Hubertine Auclert, challenging the hierarchy between the sexes required women to participate in political decision-making, to take part in drafting and voting on laws. Why should men, on their own initiative, change a situation that favored them?
While this demand seems perfectly legitimate today, at the time it marked the originality of her activist journey.
She was also the first to advocate for women to be able to compete for public sector jobs in France. She was also the first to campaign for a marriage contract with separate property and shared wages.
In 1882, she reclaimed the term "Feminism", hitherto despised by detractors of the cause, to give it a positive value and designate the struggle to improve the condition of women.

Merci beaucoup Jean-Claude !
Throughout her life, she championed the need to feminize language in order to denounce the exclusion of women from the public sphere. For her, the systematic use of masculine and feminine terms was an effective way to promote and guarantee gender equality in all areas of society.
To make her ideas understood and ensure their widespread dissemination, Hubertine Auclert strove to translate them into slogans, images, and actions. From issuing stamps celebrating women's rights to boycotting the census and even disrupting the reading of the Civil Code during a civil marriage ceremony, the accounts of her struggle are always punctuated by these symbolic acts that have left a lasting impression.
On April 20, 2026 (general sale), the French Post issued a stamp (€1.52, print run: 702,000) dedicated to Hubertine Auclert.
This stamp, created and engraved by Sophie Beaujard from a photograph showing Hubertine Auclert holding a "Women's Suffrage" banner, was used on the cover above with First Day cancellation from Moulins (03 - Allier), of April 17, 2026. Thank you very much, Jean-Claude!

This same stamp, printed in sheetlet of 15, was also used on the cover above, with the same First Day postmark from Moulins depicting two women with the inscription "Women want to vote" on their hats.
Hubertine Auclert succeeded in placing suffragism on the political agenda, but French women would not obtain the right to vote until 1944, thirty years after her death...
Note the illustration on the first envelope above showing her birthplace in Saint-Priest-en-Murat (03 - Allier).

EUROPA 2026 (70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps) stamp on FDC from France

The year 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps, a philatelic initiative launched to strengthen relations between European countries and promote lasting peace and unity.
First issued in 1956 by six nations – Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, founding members of the European Union – this program has gradually expanded to include 53 participating postal organizations.
Last year, PostEurop's Stamps and Philately Working Group organized an internal competition to choose a common design on the theme "70th Anniversary of the EUROPA Stamp: United by...".
Guided by shared values such as communication, innovation, cooperation, and common roots, the members submitted 15 creative proposals, each presenting a unique vision.
Following a vote by 50 postal organizations, the Finnish Post (Posti) won the competition, ahead of the Post of Bosnia & Herzegovina (Sarajevo) and the Post of Luxembourg.
The design by artist and graphic designer Klaus Welp will therefore be featured on the EUROPA stamps issued in 2026.

On May 11, 2026 (general sale), the French Post put into circulation a unique EUROPA stamp (€2.25, print run: 720,000) reproducing the design by Klaus Welp.
This stamp, printed in a sheetlet of 12 with illustrated margins, was used on the cover above, with First Day cancellation (design: Valérie Besser) from Strasbourg (67) dated May 9, 2026 (Europe Day). Thank you very much, Olivier!
This EUROPA stamp combines abstract and symbolic elements. The diagonally ascending dotted line represents both the perforation of a stamp and the progressive work of the PostEurop. The seven dots, connected by a straight line, symbolize seventy years of unified effort by postal operators across the continent.
The blending gradients and dotted patterns in the background form a cohesive and vibrant surface, reflecting the joyful mix of colours from the European flag and symbolizing the unity of all member nations.
It should be noted that the French Post seems to be the only European postal administration to have altered Klaus Welp's design, adding this ugly inscription "70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamp" on a blue background, thus distorting the work in my opinion...

"170 years of the Œuvre d'Orient" stamp on FDCs from France

For 170 years, the Œuvre d'Orient has been committed to supporting Christians in the Middle East, the Horn of Africa, Eastern Europe, and India.
In times of war and peace, it supports the work of bishops, priests, and religious communities who reach out to all, regardless of religious affiliation.
The Œuvre d'Orient was founded in 1856 in a pivotal historical context: the end of the Crimean War and the signing of the Treaty of Paris, which recognized France's role in protecting Christians in the Ottoman Empire. Then called the "Œuvre des écoles d'Orient", it was created at the initiative of lay professors at the Sorbonne, gathered around Baron Cauchy, to support the establishment of schools in Lebanon, convinced that education is essential for the future of any society.
In 1860, following the massacres of Christians by the Druze, Father Charles Lavigerie, the first director, recommended broadening its scope of action. This would be the beginning of a great history of solidarity.

Today, the Œuvre d'Orient, a non-political organization, works with 70 volunteers on missions in 400 Christian communities across four areas: education, healthcare and social assistance, community outreach, and culture and heritage.
Because Epiphany is synonymous with Christmas for Eastern Christians, the Œuvre d'Orient has dedicated its 170th anniversary to the celebration of the Epiphany, or the Adoration of the Magi.
This is what the artwork (dating from 2024) by painter and sculptor Augustin Frison-Roche (born in 1987) represents, a symbol of Eastern spiritual richness and the universality of the message it has carried since its founding, reproduced on the beautiful stamp issued on April 13, 2026 (general sale) to commemorate the 170th anniversary of the Œuvre d'Orient.
This stamp (€1.52, print run: 630,000), printed (partially with gold ink) in a sheetlet of 9 stamps, was used on the two illustrated envelopes above and below, with First Day cancellations dated April 10, 2026, from Metz (57) and Moulins (03) respectively. Many thanks, Olivier and Jean-Claude!

The postmark was designed by Sandrine Chimbaud based on the official logo for the 170th anniversary of the Œuvre d'Orient. The illustration on the left on these envelopes (170 years in service to the Christians of the East) is a creation of the independent graphic designer and illustrator Nicolas de Palmaert (born in 1977).
To note that the preview sale of this stamp also took place in Paris, Aix-en-Provence, Périgueux, Toulouse, and Valenciennes.

"Paul Bocuse (1926-2018)" stamp on FDC from France

On February 9, 2026 (general sale), the French Post put into circulation a stamp dedicated to French chef Paul Bocuse (1926-2018), commemorating the 100th anniversary of his birth.
This stamp (€1.52, print run: 702,000), designed and engraved by Louis Genty, is present on the First Day Cover below, with a postmark dated February 6, 2026, from Collonges-au-Mont-d'Or (69 - Rhône), his birthplace and the location of his main restaurant on the banks of the Saône River.
Named "Chef of the Century" by Gault & Millau, and holding three Michelin stars for 53 years (from 1965 until his death in 2018), Paul Bocuse will always hold a special place in the hearts (and taste buds) of the people of Lyon. Paul Bocuse is considered one of the greatest chefs of the 20th century.

Trained in Lyonnaise cuisine by Mère Brazier and later by Fernand Point, whom he considered his mentor, Paul Bocuse brought chefs out of their kitchens and helped them gain media attention beyond television.
Wearing a white jacket embroidered with his name and adorned with a tricolor collar signifying his Meilleur Ouvrier de France (Best Craftsman of France) title, awarded in 1961, he made it his duty for decades to welcome every guest to his restaurant in Collonges-au-Mont-d'Or.
Both a pioneer of "nouvelle cuisine" and a master of traditional cooking, "Monsieur Paul" embodied a simple and authentic cuisine, true to its roots and executed with a love of craftsmanship.
In 1987, he created the Bocuse d'Or, the World Culinary Competition, in Lyon, one of the most prestigious gastronomic competitions in the world, and then, in 1989, became President of the Meilleur Ouvrier de France competition (culinary arts and restaurant category). Paul Bocuse is keen to pass on his knowledge to younger generations: in 2004, the Paul Bocuse Foundation was created.

"Eden-Théâtre Cinema in La Ciotat" stamps on FDC from France

The Eden-Théâtre is a cinema located in La Ciotat (Bouches-du-Rhône), inaugurated as a theater on June 15, 1889.
Louis Lumière, inventor of the Cinematograph in 1895, filmed his first movies in La Ciotat during the summer of that year, and the Eden hosted some screenings starting in the autumn of 1895.
Serving as both a theater and a concert hall, the Eden was a popular venue, welcoming the families of shipyard workers, the main industry in this small Provençal town.
March 21, 1899, is recognized as the date of the first paid film screening at the Eden-Théâtre (with 250 enthusiastic spectators), making it the oldest purpose-built cinema in operation in the world, listed in the Guinness World Records with 127 years of operation.
The Eden cinema has been listed as a supplementary historical monument since February 12, 1996. It has belonged to the city of La Ciotat since 1992 and is part of the heritage of the 7th Art (cinema).

In 2013, as part of Marseille-Provence European Capital of Culture, a renovation of the building breathed new life into the cinema.
A cradle of cinema, now a symbol of cultural heritage and resilience against the ravages of time, the Eden-Théâtre is firmly established in the French film and heritage landscape and beyond. It regularly welcomes the most prestigious artists and directors who contribute to the preservation of this landmark of the 7th art.
On February 16, 2026 (general sale), the French Post put into circulation a stamp (€1.52, print run: 702,000), designed and engraved by Christophe Laborde-Balen, depicting the imposing current façade of this Eden-Théâtre Cinema in La Ciotat.
This stamp, printed in a sheetlet of 10 (with illustrated margins), was used twice (top of the sheetlet) on the cover above with First Day cancellation from La Ciotat dated February 13, 2026. A big thank you to my little sister!
It's a shame about that ugly mechanical cancellation (21530A - Vitrolles Marseille Provence mail sorting center)...
The First Day postmark, also designed by Christophe Laborde-Balen, reproduces the emblem of the "Lumières de l'Eden" ("Lights of Eden"), created in 2002 by Gilles Trarieux-Lumière, great-grandson of Louis Lumière, and which has been multiplying initiatives to raise awareness of the importance of this place in the history of cinema.

"Fête du Timbre 2026 - Street arts" stamp and souvenir sheet on FDCs from France

After a three-year cycle dedicated to travel (train, bicycle, boat), the theme for the Fête du Timbre is changing since 2025 with a focus on street arts.
Street Art and street painters were in the spotlight in particular at this "Fête du Timbre", organized across France from March 6 to March 8, 2026.
This year, 75 cities hosted this "Fête du Timbre", located in 63 different departments of metropolitan France.
As a reminder, this philatelic event, which takes place every year since 1938 at the initiative of the FFAP ("French Federation of Philatelic Associations"), was called "Journée du Timbre" ("Stamp Day") until 1999. The issue of a specific stamp devoted to this Stamp Day only took place in 1944.

As in previous years, a stamp (€1.52, print run: 720,000) and a souvenir sheet (€3.10, print run: 350,000) have been issued on March 6, 2026, designed respectively by the engraver André Lavergne (born in 1946) and artist Hopare (Alexandre Monteiro, born in 1989, of Portuguese origin), associated with the urban art (Street Art) movement. He is particularly active in mural painting, painting on canvas, sculpture, and azulejo tile work.
This souvenir sheet features a mural characteristic of Hopare's work (created, it seems, specifically for this "Fête du Timbre"), depicting a woman's face surrounded by various types of flowers.
The souvenir sheet and the "Street Painters" stamp have been used on the First Day Cover above, with cancellations ("Street Art and street painters") designed by André Lavergne, from the town of Oullins-Pierre-Bénite (69 - Rhône).

As in previous years, for a minimum of €10.00 purchased during this event from local philatelic associations ("Philapostel Rhône-Alpes" in Oullins-Pierre-Bénite), the postal stationery "The stamp in Street Art style" ("Green Letter" rate, limited edition) above (front) and below (back) was offered for free, with the pre-printed "Street painters" stamp, and the same cancellation from Oullins-Pierre-Bénite here.

Below, the various souvenirs (envelopes, cards), illustrated by Chantal Gabillard and Véronique Bandry (in an old and kitschy style, in my opinion...), offered by the FFAP (French Federation of Philatelic Associations) and the "Philapostel Rhône-Alpes" association on the occasion of this "Fête du Timbre" in Oullins-Pierre-Bénite.

Some other examples below of First Day covers concerning the souvenir sheet and stamp of this Fête du Timbre 2026 with postmarks from Verneuil-sur-Avre (27 - Eure) here. Many thanks Stéphane!

While I find the souvenir sheet magnificent (this female face with its intense gaze makes us question what we see of the world and what we choose to look at), the stamp itself is messy and difficult to read, with too many street artists on such a small surface. too bad.
