Les 27 états membres de l'Union européenne exercent à tour de rôle la présidence du Conseil de l'Union européenne, pour une période de six mois. Le rôle de la présidence est de présider la plupart des réunions du Conseil, d'établir son programme de travail et ses ordres du jour, et de représenter le Conseil. 
La présidence est principalement chargée de planifier, coordonner et présider les réunions, représenter le Conseil, négocier avec les autres institutions de l'UE, communiquer sur ses activités et servir d'intermédiaire impartial en vue de parvenir à des accords au sein du Conseil. 
Après 2012, Chypre a exercé la présidence du Conseil pour la 2ème fois, du 1er janvier au 30 juin 2026.
Dès le départ, la présidence chypriote a défini cinq grandes priorités afin d'obtenir des avancées tangibles et concrètes dans chacun de ces domaines : de la défense et de la sécurité à la compétitivité, en passant par l'élargissement, les droits des citoyens et le budget à long terme de l'UE. 
La devise de la présidence chypriote, "Une Union autonome, ouverte sur le monde", a orienté l'ensemble de ses travaux et traduit son ambition de contribuer à une UE plus forte, plus résiliente et davantage tournée vers l'extérieur. 
The 27 member states of the European Union hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union on a rotating basis for a six-month term. The presidency's role is to chair most meetings of the Council, set its work programme and agendas, and act as the representative of the Council.
The presidency is primarily responsible for planning, coordinating, and chairing meetings, representing the Council, negotiating with other EU institutions, communicating about its activities, and acting as an impartial mediator to reach agreements within the Council.
Following its 2012 term, Cyprus held the Council presidency for the second time from 1 January to 30 June 2026.
From the outset, the Cypriot presidency defined five key priorities aimed at achieving tangible, concrete progress in each of these areas: ranging from defence and security to competitiveness, as well as enlargement, citizens' rights, and the EU's long-term budget.
The Cypriot presidency's motto, "An autonomous Union. Open to the world", guided all its work and reflected its ambition to contribute to a stronger, more resilient, and more outward-looking EU.  

Le 7 janvier 2026, la poste chypriote a mis en circulation un timbre (0,64€) et un bloc-feuillet (5€) consacrés à cette présidence chypriote du Conseil de l'Union européenne.
Conçu par George Papaioannou, le bloc-feuillet numéroté (tirage : 15000) figure sur le FDC officiel (tirage : 3500) ci-dessus.
Ce bloc-feuillet a été créé à partir du logo et de l'identité visuelle de cette présidence chypriote, conçus par le graphiste Marios Kouroufexis, s'inspirant de l'un des symboles les plus caractéristiques du patrimoine culturel de l'île : la dentelle de Lefkara.
Ce logo est composé de 27 éléments, chacun représentant un état membre, dont la réunion a pour objet d'aboutir à une Union plus forte et plus unie, progressant solidairement vers un objectif commun. La composition évoque le soleil radieux de Chypre, source de vie, de lumière, d'énergie, de renouveau et d'espoir, pour un avenir européen commun, durable et meilleur.
Les nuances chaudes de l'orange reflètent la teinte cuivrée du drapeau chypriote et l'éclat du soleil, symbolisant la chaleur, l'ouverture et la collaboration. Parallèlement, le bleu profond de l'UE en arrière-plan souligne l'identité de Chypre en tant que partie intégrante de l'UE, pays distinct par son caractère mais parfaitement intégré dans la tapisserie européenne.
On January 7, 2026, Cyprus Post issued a stamp (€0.64) and a souvenir sheet (€5.00) dedicated to this Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Designed by George Papaioannou, the numbered souvenir sheet (print run: 15,000) appears on the official First Day Cover (print run: 3,500) above.
This souvenir sheet was created using the logo and visual identity of the Cypriot Presidency—designed by graphic artist Marios Kouroufexis—which draw inspiration from one of the island's most distinctive cultural heritage symbols: Lefkara lace.
The logo consists of 27 elements, each representing a member state; their coming together aims to achieve a stronger, more united Union, progressing in solidarity toward a common goal. The composition evokes Cyprus's radiant sun—a source of life, light, energy, renewal, and hope—signifying a shared, sustainable, and better European future.
Warm orange tones reflect the copper hue of the Cypriot flag and the brilliance of the sun, symbolizing warmth, openness, and collaboration. Meanwhile, the deep EU blue in the background underscores Cyprus's identity as an integral part of the EU—a country distinct in character yet seamlessly woven into the European tapestry.

Timbre EUROPA 2026 (70ème anniversaire des timbres EUROPA) sur FDC de Chypre 

L'année 2026 marque le 70ème anniversaire des timbres EUROPA, une initiative philatélique lancée pour renforcer les relations entre les pays européens et promouvoir une paix et une unité durables.
Émis pour la première fois en 1956 par six nations – la Belgique, la France, l'Allemagne, l'Italie, le Luxembourg et les Pays-Bas, membres fondateurs de l'Union européenne – ce programme s'est étendu progressivement à 53 organisations postales participantes.
L'an dernier, le groupe de travail Timbres et Philatélie de PostEurop a organisé un concours interne pour choisir un motif commun sur le thème "70ème anniversaire du timbre EUROPA : Unis par...".
Guidés par des valeurs partagées telles que la communication, l'innovation, la coopération et des racines communes, les membres ont soumis 15 propositions créatives, chacune présentant une vision unique. 
Suite au vote de 50 organisations postales, ce concours a été remporté par la poste finlandaise (Posti), devant la poste de Bosnie-Herzégovine (Sarajevo) et la poste luxembourgeoise.
C'est donc le projet de l'artiste et graphiste Klaus Welp qui figure sur les timbres EUROPA émis en 2026. 
The year 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps, a philatelic initiative launched to strengthen relations between European countries and promote lasting peace and unity.
First issued in 1956 by six nations – Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, founding members of the European Union – this program has gradually expanded to include 53 participating postal organizations.
Last year, PostEurop's Stamps and Philately Working Group organized an internal competition to choose a common design on the theme "70th Anniversary of the EUROPA Stamp: United by...".
Guided by shared values ​​such as communication, innovation, cooperation, and common roots, the members submitted 15 creative proposals, each presenting a unique vision.
Following a vote by 50 postal organizations, the Finnish Post (Posti) won the competition, ahead of the Post of Bosnia & Herzegovina (Sarajevo) and the Post of Luxembourg.
The design by artist and graphic designer Klaus Welp will therefore be featured on the EUROPA stamps issued in 2026. 

Le 11 mai 2026, la poste chypriote a mis en circulation un timbre EUROPA unique reproduisant le dessin conçu par Klaus Welp.
Ce timbre (0,64€, mise en page : Melanie Efstathiadou, tirage : 55000), imprimé en feuillet de 8 timbres, figure sur le FDC officiel (tirage : 3500) ci-dessus.
Ce timbre a également été imprimé dans un carnet (tirage : 6000 carnets) composé également de 8 timbres, non dentelés sur un côté. 
Ce timbre EUROPA allie éléments abstraits et symboliques. La ligne pointillée ascendante en diagonale représente à la fois la perforation du timbre et le travail progressif de PostEurop. Les sept points, reliés par une ligne droite, symbolisent soixante-dix ans d'efforts concertés des opérateurs postaux à travers le continent.
Les dégradés et les motifs pointillés en arrière-plan forment une surface harmonieuse et dynamique, reflétant le joyeux mélange de couleurs du drapeau européen et symbolisant l'unité de tous les États membres.
A noter que Chypre a émis ses premiers timbres EUROPA en 1962, reproduisant le dessin commun choisi pour l'année 1961 (conçu par le néerlandais Theo Kurpershoek) : une colombe de la paix composée de 19 petites colombes, une pour chacun des 19 membres de la CEPT à l'époque. 
On May 11, 2026, Cyprus Post released a unique EUROPA stamp featuring the design by Klaus Welp.

This stamp was also issued in a booklet (print run: 6,000 booklets) containing eight stamps, each with one imperforate edge.
This EUROPA stamp combines abstract and symbolic elements. The diagonally ascending dotted line represents both the perforation of a stamp and the progressive work of the PostEurop. The seven dots, connected by a straight line, symbolize seventy years of unified effort by postal operators across the continent.
The blending gradients and dotted patterns in the background form a cohesive and vibrant surface, reflecting the joyful mix of colours from the European flag and symbolizing the unity of all member nations.
It is worth noting that Cyprus issued its first EUROPA stamps in 1962, reproducing the common design selected for the year 1961 (created by the Dutch artist Theo Kurpershoek): a peace dove composed of 19 smaller doves, representing each of the 19 CEPT members at the time.  

"100 Years of the FIP - Fédération Internationale de Philatélie" s/s on FDC from Cyprus

Bloc-feuillet "100 ans de la FIP - Fédération Internationale de Philatélie" sur FDC de Chypre 

La Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP) a été créée le 18 juin 1926 à Paris par les représentants de 6 pays : Allemagne, Autriche, Belgique, France, Pays-Bas et Suisse.
Dès le début, la FIP a œuvré pour promouvoir la collection de timbres et la philatélie, favoriser l'amitié entre les peuples, entretenir des liens avec le secteur philatélique et les administrations postales, et soutenir les expositions philatéliques par son patronage et sa reconnaissance.
Aujourd’hui, la FIP regroupe 90 fédérations nationales avec lesquelles elle organise des conférences, des séminaires pour les futurs jurés lors de ses expositions et structure l'évolution de la façon de collectionner et d'exposer en introduisant de nouvelles classes de compétition.
Enfin, elle parraine et co-organise avec les fédérations nationales les expositions mondiales (générales et spécialisées) qui sont de véritable "jeux olympiques" de la philatélie.  
The Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP - International Federation of Philately) was founded on June 18, 1926, in Paris by representatives from six countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. 
From the outset, the FIP has worked to promote stamp collecting and philately, foster friendship among nations, maintain ties with the philatelic sector and postal administrations, and support philatelic exhibitions through its patronage and recognition.
Today, the FIP brings together 90 national federations; with them, it organizes conferences and seminars for aspiring jurors during its exhibitions and shapes the evolution of collecting and exhibiting practices by introducing new competitive classes.
Finally, it sponsors and co-organizes—alongside national federations—world exhibitions (both general and specialized) that serve as the true "Olympic Games" of philately.  

La FIP célèbre donc le 100ème anniversaire de sa création en 2026 et un certain nombre d'administrations postales ont émis ou vont émettre des timbres sur ce thème, la plupart en reproduisant le logo officiel de ces 100 ans : Belarus, Monaco, République dominicaine, Serbie, Thaïlande, Bulgarie, Russie, Slovénie, Roumanie, Brésil, Uruguay, Israël, Chypre, Jordanie, Pakistan, Espagne, Bosnie-Herzégovine (Sarajevo), Émirats Arabes Unis, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, Grèce...
Le 11 mai 2026, la poste de Chypre a mis en circulation un bloc-feuillet numéroté (1€, tirage : 10000, conception : Prodromos Apostolou) sur ce thème, présent sur le FDC officiel ci-dessus (tirage : 3500).
L'emblème de la FIP associé au logo de ce 100ème anniversaire sont reproduits sur le timbre, une loupe devant un timbre stylisé en bas à droite rappelle que le principal objectif de la FIP est d'encourager le développement de la collection de timbres. 
La Société Philatélique de Chypre est membre de la FIP depuis 1987.
The FIP is thus celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026, and a number of postal administrations have issued - or will issue - stamps on this theme, most featuring the official 100th-anniversary logo: Belarus, Monaco, Dominican Republic, Serbia, Thailand, Bulgaria, Russia, Slovenia, Romania, Brazil, Uruguay, Israel, Cyprus, Jordan, Pakistan, Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo), United Arab Emirates, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Greece, and others.
On May 11, 2026, Cyprus Post released a numbered souvenir sheet (€1.00, print run: 10,000; design: Prodromos Apostolou) on this theme; it appears on the official First Day Cover above (print run: 3,500).
The stamp features both the FIP emblem and the 100th-anniversary logo; a magnifying glass positioned over a stylized stamp in the bottom right corner highlights the FIP's primary objective: encouraging the development of stamp collecting.
The Cyprus Philatelic Society has been a member of the FIP since 1987.   

Euromed Postal 2025 (Resources of the Mediterranean) stamp on FDC from Cyprus

Timbre Euromed Postal 2025 (Ressources de la Méditerranée) sur FDC de Chypre 

Pour rappel, depuis 2014, certains pays membres (23 au total actuellement) de l'Union Postale pour la Méditerranée (PUMed), une union restreinte de l'UPU, émettent chaque année des timbres "Euromed Postal" ayant un thème commun lié à la région méditerranéenne.
Après les sports de la Méditerranée en 2024, les 14 administrations postales participantes ont émis en 2025 des timbres "Euromed Postal" différents consacrés au thème des ressources de la Méditerranée.
La version chypriote de ce timbre (0,75€, tirage : 55000, imprimé en feuillet de 8 timbres), conçu par Marios Kouroufexis, émis le 9 juillet 2025, figure sur le FDC officiel (tirage : 3500) ci-dessous.
A noter qu'aucune mention de lieu précis ne figure sur le TAD Premier Jour mais uniquement "Chypre" en grec, turc et anglais (comme sur le timbre). 
As a reminder, since 2014, some member countries (currently 23 in total) of the Postal Union for the Mediterranean (PUMed), a restricted union of the UPU, are issuing each year  "Euromed Postal" stamps devoted to a common theme related to the Mediterranean region.   
Following Sports in the Mediterranean in 2024, the 14 participating postal administrations issued different "Euromed Postal" stamps in 2025 dedicated to the theme of Resources of the Mediterranean.
The Cypriot version of this stamp (€0.75, print run: 55,000, printed in a sheetlet of 8 stamps), designed by Marios Kouroufexis, issued on July 9, 2025, is present on the official FDC (print run: 3,500) below.
To note that no specific location is mentioned on the First Day postmark but only "Cyprus" in Greek, Turkish and English (as on the stamp). 

L'objectif de ce thème 2025 est de souligner les ressources qui déterminent la qualité de vie et l'histoire de la région méditerranéenne.
Chypre, avec sa riche tradition, ses ressources naturelles importantes et son orientation moderne vers la viabilité, présente des turbines éoliennes à travers le timbre de cette année, soulignant l'importance des sources d'énergie renouvelables en tant que ressource précieuse pour le présent et l'avenir de la Méditerranée.
Ces éoliennes symbolisent également la croissance verte et la nécessité de protéger l'environnement, dans le cadre d'un effort méditerranéen commun de transition énergétique. 
Orites est le plus grand parc éolien de Chypre (capacité de 82 MW). Il représente plus de 20% de la capacité de production d'électricité renouvelable de Chypre. Ce parc éolien est en service depuis 2011 et comprend 41 éoliennes. 
Chypre vise à atteindre une part de 31% d'énergies renouvelables dans la production d'électricité d'ici 2030, conformément aux objectifs plus larges de l'Union européenne et à l'Accord de Paris.
The aim of this 2025 theme is to highlight the resources that shape the quality of life and history of the Mediterranean region.
Cyprus, with its rich tradition, significant natural resources, and modern focus on sustainability, features wind turbines on this year's stamp, emphasizing the importance of renewable energy sources as a valuable resource for the present and future of the Mediterranean.
These wind turbines also symbolize green growth and the need to protect the environment, as part of a shared Mediterranean effort toward energy transition.
Orites is Cyprus's largest wind farm (82 MW capacity). It accounts for more than 20% of Cyprus's renewable electricity generation capacity. This wind farm has been operational since 2011 and comprises 41 wind turbines.
Cyprus aims to achieve a 31% share of renewable energy in electricity production by 2030, in line with the broader objectives of the European Union and the Paris Agreement.

Si nous aspirons tous à vivre en paix, les conflits sont une réalité bien présente, que ce soit en nous-mêmes, au sein de nos communautés ou dans le monde. 
Le timbre brodé "Dove of Peace" ("Colombe de la Paix") s'inscrit dans le cadre d'une initiative internationale qui vise à envoyer un signal fort en faveur de la paix et de la cohésion.
La poste de Chypre fait partie de la dizaine d'administrations postales internationales (Åland, Arménie, Autriche, Barbade, Chypre, Groenland, îles Féroé, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Suisse) qui ont uni leurs forces pour concevoir un timbre exceptionnel, finement brodé avec du fil de polyester recyclé, en collaboration avec les Nations Unies (les 3 bureaux de New-York, Genève et Vienne), l'Union postale universelle (UPU) et le spécialiste autrichien de la broderie Hämmerle & Vogel GmbH & Co KG. 
We all wish to live in peace and yet we are often surrounded by conflict, in ourselves and our communities, or at the global level.
An international initiative is now sending a specific signal with the embroidered "Dove of Peace" stamp, to strengthen awareness of peace and solidarity. 
The Post of Cyprus is one of ten international postal administrations (Åland, Armenia, Austria, Barbados, Cyprus, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Switzerland) that have joined forces to design an exceptional stamp, finely embroidered with recycled polyester yarn, in collaboration with the United Nations (the three offices in New York, Geneva and Vienna), the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and the Austrian embroidery manufacturer Hämmerle & Vogel GmbH & Co KG.  

La version chypriote de ce timbre (5€, tirage : 10000) a été utilisée sur la lettre ci-dessus envoyée depuis Nicosie (Lefkosia en grec), le Premier Jour d'émission (19 septembre 2025).
La colombe, symbole universel de paix, d'espoir et de compréhension, a été délibérément choisie en tant que motif central pour transmettre un message clair par-delà les frontières.
Plus qu'un simple objet de collection en édition limitée, ce timbre se veut également un rappel symbolique : la paix ne va pas de soi, elle exige un effort quotidien et un engagement personnel comparables à la patience et au soin nécessaires à la conception de chaque timbre brodé.
Le timbre "Dove of Peace" envoie un message simple mais puissant, fédérateur au-delà des frontières : la paix commence à petite échelle, avec chaque individu. 
The Cypriot version of this stamp (€5.00, print run: 10,000) was used on the above cover sent from Nicosia (Lefkosia in Greek), on the First Day of Issue (September 19, 2025). 
The dove, a universal symbol of peace, hope, and understanding, was deliberately chosen as the central motif to convey a clear message across borders.
More than just a limited-edition collectible, this stamp is also intended as a symbolic reminder: peace is not self-evident; it requires daily effort and personal commitment comparable to the patience and care required to design each embroidered stamp.
The "Dove of Peace" stamp sends a simple yet powerful, unifying message across borders: peace begins with the small gestures made by each of us.  

"50 years since the Turkish invasion and occupation" souvenir sheet on FDC from Cyprus

Bloc-feuillet "50 ans de l'invasion et occupation turques" sur FDC de Chypre 

Lorsque Chypre devient une république indépendante du Royaume-Uni en 1960, sa population se répartit en deux communautés principales : la communauté chypriote grecque et la communauté chypriote turque (minoritaire).
Pendant la dictature des colonels qui se met en place en Grèce, de nombreux opposants politiques se réfugient à Chypre. Le 15 juillet 1974, la Garde nationale dirigée par des officiers grecs lance une tentative de coup d'État contre le président chypriote, l'archevêque Makários, avec l'aide du groupe paramilitaire chypriote grec de l'EOKA B, leur objectif commun étant de réaliser l'Énosis, c'est-à-dire l'unification de Chypre à la Grèce.
Le 20 juillet 1974, la Turquie intervient militairement en évoquant la protection des intérêts de la communauté turque de l'île (alors 18 % de la population chypriote) et le rétablissement de l'ordre constitutionnel.
Cette offensive militaire des forces armées turques a conduit à l'occupation par la Turquie de 38 % du territoire chypriote, et à la partition de celui-ci.
When Cyprus became an independent republic from the United Kingdom in 1960, its population was divided into two main communities: the Greek Cypriot community and the Turkish Cypriot community (a minority).
During the establishment of the dictatorship of the colonels in Greece, many political opponents took refuge in Cyprus. On July 15, 1974, the National Guard, led by Greek officers, launched a coup attempt against the Cypriot president, Archbishop Makarios, with the help of the Greek Cypriot paramilitary group EOKA B. Their common goal was to achieve Enosis, the unification of Cyprus with Greece.
On July 20, 1974, Turkey intervened militarily, citing the protection of the interests of the island's Turkish community (then 18% of the Cypriot population) and the restoration of constitutional order.
This military offensive by the Turkish armed forces led to the occupation by Turkey of 38% of the Cypriot territory, and to its partition.  

Le 10 juillet 2024, la poste chypriote a mis en circulation un bloc-feuillet numéroté (1€, tirage : 15000) consacré au 50ème anniversaire de cette invasion et occupation d'une partie de l'île par la Turquie.
Ce bloc-feuillet, conçu par Antonia Hadjigeorgiou, figure sur le FDC officiel ci-dessus, envoyé récemment depuis Chypre. Merci beaucoup Maire !
Le timbre a été conçu à partir d'une des nombreuses photographies prises à l'époque par Doros Partasides, qui travaillait pour la Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation TV en tant que caméraman/photographe pour couvrir les souffrances humaines consécutives à l'invasion turque. Cette photographie montre en particulier une mère qui venait d'apprendre la mort de son fils au combat.
Au cours de ces 50 années, le gouvernement chypriote a déploré les conséquences de cette occupation : 170000 réfugiés, chassés de force du nord de l'île, installation de colons turcs, destruction du patrimoine culturel grec... 
Néanmoins, la République de Chypre poursuit ses efforts pour une solution juste et durable au problème chypriote, conforme aux résolutions et décisions des Nations Unies, qui préservera l'indépendance, l'intégrité, la souveraineté et l'unité de Chypre et garantira le respect et la protection des droits humains de tous ses citoyens.
Une carte de l'île figure dans la marge supérieure de ce bloc-feuillet, la partie occupée par la Turquie étant illustrée en rouge sang. A noter aussi la mention "Je n'oublie pas" en grec dans la marge inférieure.
A noter également ce 2ème timbre (0,02€, émission de 2023) avec mention "Refugee Stamp" (en grec, anglais et turc), réémis régulièrement, apposé en complément sur toutes les lettres et cartes postales postées sur l'île afin de financer un fond pour les réfugiés grecs ayant fui le nord de l'île après cette invasion turque de 1974.

The stamp was designed based on one of the numerous photographs taken at the time by Doros Partasides, who worked for the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation TV as a cameraman/photographer, covering the human suffering following the Turkish invasion. This photograph in particular shows a mother who had just learned of the death of her son in combat.
Over the past 50 years, the Cypriot government has deplored the consequences of this occupation: 170,000 refugees forcibly expelled from the north of the island, the settlement of Turkish settlers, the destruction of Greek cultural heritage, and more.
Nevertheless, the Republic of Cyprus continues its efforts to find a just and lasting solution to the Cyprus problem, in accordance with United Nations resolutions and decisions, which will preserve the independence, integrity, sovereignty, and unity of Cyprus and guarantee respect for and protection of the human rights of all its citizens.
A map of the island appears in the top margin of this souvenir sheet, with the Turkish-occupied part depicted in blood red. Also note the words "I do not forget" in Greek in the bottom margin.

Le 9 mai 2025 (Journée de l'Europe), la poste chypriote a mis en circulation sa série EUROPA (2 timbres) consacrée cette année au thème des Découvertes archéologiques nationales, en particulier un sol en mosaïque.
Ces 2 timbres se-tenant (0,64€, conception : Aggeliki Athanasiades, tirage : 27500 chacun) ont été imprimés dans un même feuillet de 8 timbres (4 paires) ainsi que dans un même carnet (tirage : 6000 carnets) composé également de 8 timbres, non dentelés sur un côté.

On May 9, 2025 (Europe Day), the Cyprus Post released its EUROPA series (2 stamps), this year dedicated to the theme of National Archaeological Discoveries, in particular a mosaic floor.
These two se-tenant stamps (€0.64, design: Aggeliki Athanasiades, print run: 27,500 each) have been printed in a unique sheetlet of 8 stamps (4 pairs) and in a same booklet (print run: 6,000 booklets) also composed of 8 stamps, imperforated on one side.

Ce sol en mosaïque représentant une scène d'hippodrome a été découvert lors de fouilles menées par le Département des Antiquités de Chypre près de la communauté d'Akaki, dans le district de Nicosie.
Il fait partie du décor d'une villa rurale datant du 4ème siècle après J.-C., fouillée entre 2023 et 2024. Le sol en mosaïque, long de 26 mètres, illustre une course de chars se déroulant dans un hippodrome, rendue avec une grande précision.
L'Euripe, ou spina, est clairement représenté, avec divers sanctuaires, colonnes, obélisques et sculptures utilisés pour le chronométrage et le décompte des tours pendant la course. Quatre tethrippon (chars à quatre chevaux) participent à la course, représentée en quatre phases différentes. Chaque char est accompagné de deux noms écrits en grec : celui du cocher et celui de l'un des chevaux, permettant de suivre le déroulement de la course.
La mosaïque récemment découverte à Akaki est unique à Chypre et se distingue par son savoir-faire exceptionnel mais aussi parce qu'elle offre une représentation iconographique rare de la course de chars à l'époque romaine. 
This mosaic floor depicting a hippodrome scene was discovered during excavations conducted by the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus near the community of Akaki, Nicosia District.
It is part of the floor decoration of a rural villa dating to the 4th century AD, which was excavated between 2023 and 2024. The mosaic floor, measuring 26 meters in length, illustrates a chariot race unfolding within a hippodrome, which is rendered with great detail.
The euripus or spina is clearly depicted, featuring various shrines, columns, obelisks, and sculptures that were used for timekeeping and lap counting during the race. Four tethrippon (four-horse chariots) participate in the race, shown in four different phases of the competition. Each chariot is accompanied by two names written in Greek: the name of the charioteer and the name of one of the horses, allowing to follow the progression of the race.
The newly discovered mosaic from Akaki is unique in Cyprus and stands out for its exceptional craftsmanship but also because it provides a rare iconographic representation of chariot race during the Roman period.

Pour rappel, depuis 2014, certains pays membres (23 au total actuellement) de l'Union Postale pour la Méditerranée (PUMed), une union restreinte de l'UPU, émettent chaque année des timbres "Euromed Postal" ayant un thème commun lié à la région méditerranéenne.
Après les festivals de Méditerranée en 2023, les 14 administrations postales participantes en 2024 ont émis des timbres illustrant le thème des sports de Méditerranée.
La version chypriote de ce timbre (0,75€, tirage : 55000, imprimé en feuillet de 8 timbres), conçu par Liza Petridou, émis le 10 juillet 2024, figure sur le FDC officiel (tirage : 3500) ci-dessous.
A noter qu'aucune mention de lieu précis ne figure sur le TAD Premier Jour (voile) mais uniquement "Chypre" en grec, turc et anglais (comme sur le timbre).

Comme de coutume, le logo Euromed Postal (un faucon stylisé) est présent en bas à droite sur ce timbre.
Ce timbre est consacré au beach-volley, un sport de plage (créé vers 1920 en Californie, sport olympique depuis 1996) très populaire à Chypre et dans les pays du bassin méditerranéen. Ce sport évoque aussi les vacances avec ce ciel bleu, le sable et le soleil.
Les équipes féminine et masculine chypriotes de beach-volley ont performé en particulier entre les années 2000 et 2015 au niveau des championnats d'Europe des petits états.
As usual, the Euromed Postal logo (a stylized falcon) is featured in the lower right corner on this stamp.
This stamp is dedicated to beach volleyball, a beach sport (created around 1920 in California and an Olympic sport since 1996) that is very popular in Cyprus and the Mediterranean countries. This sport also evokes vacations with this blue sky, sand, and sun.
The Cypriot women's and men's beach volleyball teams performed particularly well between 2000 and 2015, at the European Championships of the Small States. 

"150 years of the UPU 1874-2024" stamp on FDC from Cyprus

En 2024, l'Union Postale Universelle (UPU) célèbrait son 150ème anniversaire. Le 9 octobre 1874, 22 pays se sont réunis pour signer le Traité de Berne, créant ainsi l'Union générale des postes, qui deviendra ensuite l'Union Postale Universelle (à partir de 1878).
150 ans plus tard, l'UPU unit à présent les réseaux postaux de 192 pays membres. Elle a ainsi concrétisé la vision de ses fondateurs, qui consistait à établir un territoire postal unique pour servir toutes les populations, où qu'elles se trouvent.
Avec le thème de ce 150ème anniversaire, "150 ans d'engagement pour la communication et le développement des peuples à travers le monde", l'UPU célèbre cette réalisation et renforce son engagement à servir les populations pour les années et siècles à venir.
Tout au long de cette année 2024, l'UPU a organisé une série d'événements et des campagnes visant à rendre hommage à la richesse de son passé, à la pertinence de son présent et aux promesses de son avenir, en utilisant en particulier le hashtag #UPU150 sur les réseaux sociaux.
In 2024, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) celebrated its 150th anniversary. On October 9, 1874, 22 countries gathered to sign the Treaty of Bern, creating the General Postal Union, which would later become known as the Universal Postal Union (from 1878).
150 years later, the UPU now unites the postal networks of 192 member countries, having realized its founders' vision of establishing a single postal territory to serve people everywhere.
The UPU's theme for its 150th year, "150 years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nations", recognizes this accomplishment, and reinforces its commitment to serve peoples for the decades and centuries to come.
Throughout 2024, the UPU organized a series of events and campaigns in celebration of its rich past, dedicated present and promising future, in particular using the hashtag #UPU150 on social media.

On October 9, 2024, World Post Day, the Cyprus Post put into circulation a stamp dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the UPU.

"Paris 2024 Olympic Games" stamp set on FDC from Cyprus

Le 2 mai 2024, la poste de Chypre a mis en circulation une jolie série (4 timbres) consacrée aux jeux olympiques de Paris 2024 (33ème olympiade) organisés du 26 juillet au 11 août 2024.
Conçus par Alexandros Savvides, ces 4 timbres (tirage : 90000 pour timbres à 0,34€, 0,41€ et 0,64€, 55000 pour timbre à 0,75€), imprimés chacun en feuillet de 8 timbres, figurent sur le FDC officiel ci-dessous (tirage : 3500). A noter qu'aucune mention de lieu précis ne figure sur le TAD Premier Jour (flamme olympique) mais uniquement "Chypre" en grec, turc et anglais (comme sur les timbres).
Les timbres de cette série comportent simplement la mention "Paris 2024", sans présence du logo officiel ni des anneaux olympiques, ainsi que l'emblème du comité olympique de Chypre.
A date, environ 12 athlètes chypriotes sont qualifiés pour ces jeux olympiques de Paris, dans 7 sports différents : athlétisme, gymnastique, cyclisme, escrime, judo, voile et tir.

To date, around 12 Cypriot athletes have qualified for the Paris Olympic Games, in 7 different sports: athletics, gymnastics, cycling, fencing, judo, sailing and shooting.

Des silhouettes d'athlètes (natation, tir-skeet, voile, cyclisme sur piste), noires avec application d'une encre argentée spéciale, sont représentées sur cette jolie série, avec présence de rubans arborant les couleurs du drapeau français dans le fond.
La République de Chypre participe aux jeux olympiques d'été depuis 1980 et n'a remporté qu'une seule médaille à ce jour, une médaille d'argent en voile (laser masculin) grâce à Pavlos Kontides (né en 1990), lors des jeux de Londres en 2012.
Pavlos Kontides, à l'honneur sur un timbre spécial chypriote émis en novembre 2012, participera à ses 5èmes jeux olympiques à Paris.
A noter également sur l'illustration de cette enveloppe la présence de l'iconique Tour Eiffel.
Silhouettes of athletes (swimming, skeet shooting, sailing, track cycling), in black with application of a special silver ink, are featured on this pretty series, with ribbons displaying the colors of the French flag in the background.
The Republic of Cyprus has participated in the Summer Olympics since 1980 and has only won one medal to date, a silver medal in sailing (men's laser) thanks to Pavlos Kontides (born in 1990), at the London Games in 2012.
Pavlos Kontides, featured on a special Cypriot stamp issued in November 2012, will participate in his 5th Olympic Games in Paris.

Comme les années précédentes, ces 2 timbres (conception : Anna Fotiadou) ont été imprimés chacun en feuillet de 8 timbres ainsi que dans un même carnet (tirage : 6000 carnets) composé de 8 timbres (4 de chaque) non dentelés sur un côté.

Le timbre à gauche (0,34€, tirage : 90000) est consacré aux algues en général, sans évoquer une espèce en particulier, constituant une vaste classe d'organismes unicellulaires ou multicellulaires de formes et tailles variées.
Les algues constituent une part très importante de la biodiversité et la base principale des chaînes alimentaires des eaux douces, saumâtres et marines. Ces organismes sont capables de produire de la photosynthèse oxygénique.
L'autre timbre (0,64€, tirage : 55000) illustre une anémone de mer, une espèce au métabolisme basique. Elle est un polype solitaire, contrairement aux coraux qui vivent en colonies, qui se fixe à un support. Elle a des tentacules urticants pour capturer les proies imprudentes en leur injectant une dose de venin avant de les assimiler, mais l'essentiel de leur énergie leur est procurée par de petits algues qu'elles hébergent dans leurs tentacules et qui synthétisent la lumière du soleil. 
The stamp on the left (€0.34, print run: 90,000) is devoted to algae in general, without mentioning a species in particular, constituting a vast class of unicellular or multicellular organisms of varied shapes and sizes.
Algae constitute a very important part of biodiversity and the main basis of food chains in fresh, brackish and marine waters. These organisms are capable of producing oxygenic photosynthesis.
The other stamp (€0.64, print run: 55,000) illustrates a sea anemone, a species with a basic metabolism. It is a solitary polyp, unlike corals which live in colonies, which attaches to a support. It has stinging tentacles to capture unwary prey by injecting them with a dose of venom before assimilating them, but most of their energy is provided by small algae that they host in their tentacles and which synthesize sunlight.

Ce timbre est consacré au festival des roses, organisée chaque année (au mois de mai) depuis 15 ans à Agros, l'un des plus beaux villages de Chypre, situé dans le Massif du Troodos (centre de l'île), en amphithéâtre entre de hautes montagnes, à une altitude de 1100 mètres avec une population d'environ 1000 habitants.
Ce festival a pour objectif de diffuser la tradition de la récolte et de la transformation des roses, la quasi-totalité de l'économie du village reposant sur la culture de la rose (de Damas), magnifiquement parfumée, utilisée dans la fabrication de toutes sortes de produits cosmétiques (eau de rose en particulier) et culinaires à Chypre.
Lors de ce festival, les visiteurs peuvent aussi profiter de représentations de danse et musique traditionnelles de cette région de Chypre.

This stamp is dedicated to the Rose Festival, organized every year (in May) for 15 years in Agros, one of the most beautiful villages in Cyprus, located in the Troodos Mountains (center of the island), in an amphitheater between high mountains, at an altitude of 1100 meters with a population of around 1000 inhabitants.
This festival aims to spread the tradition of harvesting and processing roses, almost the entire economy of the village being based on the cultivation of the magnificently fragrant (Damascus) rose, used in the manufacture of all kinds of cosmetic products (rose water in particular) and culinary products in Cyprus.
During this festival, visitors can also enjoy performances of traditional dance and music from this region of Cyprus.

"FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022" stamps on cover from Cyprus

Timbres "Coupe du monde de la FIFA Qatar 2022" sur lettre de Chypre

Le 18 novembre 2022, 2 jours avant le match d'ouverture Qatar-Équateur, la poste de Chypre a mis en circulation un timbre consacré à la 22ème édition de la Coupe du monde de la FIFA, organisée du 20 novembre au 18 décembre 2022 au Qatar.
Malgré les polémiques (nombreux morts lors de la construction des stades, stades climatisés, droits humains...) liées à cette compétition organisée exceptionnellement en fin d'année, cette Coupe du monde s'est globalement bien déroulée, pour la 1ère fois dans un pays arabe, avec une victoire finale de l'Argentine contre la France...
L'équipe nationale du Qatar, éliminée dès le 1er tour, participait pour la 1ère fois à une Coupe du monde, la seule des 32 équipes engagées dans ce cas.
Depuis l'indépendance du pays en 1960, Chypre a participé à 16 phases de qualifications (UEFA) à cette Coupe du monde sans parvenir à se qualifier jusqu'à maintenant.
On November 18, 2022, two days before the Qatar-Ecuador opening match, the Post of Cyprus put into circulation a stamp dedicated to the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup, organized from November 20 to December 18, 2022 in Qatar.
Despite the controversies (many deaths during the construction of stadiums, air-conditioned stadiums, human rights, etc.) linked to this competition organized exceptionally at the end of the year, this World Cup went well overall, for the first time in an Arab country, with a final victory for Argentina against France...
The national team of Qatar, eliminated in the first round, participated for the first time in a World Cup, the only one of the 32 teams involved in this case.
Since the country's independence in 1960, Cyprus has participated in 16 qualifying phases (UEFA) for this World Cup without managing to qualify so far.

"Aerial firefighting" joint stamp with Cyprus, on FDC from Israel

Timbre "Lutte aérienne contre les incendies", commun avec Chypre, sur FDC d'Israël

En raison de leur proximité, de leur expérience et de leur gestion de situations de nature similaire résultant de risques naturels ou d'origine humaine, un accord interétatique et un protocole de coopération ont été signés en 2010 entre le service d'incendie de Chypre et le service d'incendie et de sauvetage d'Israël.
Depuis 2010, les 2 pays ont régulièrement envoyés des avions en renfort lors d'importants incendies en Israël ou Chypre, en particulier lors des incendies de la forêt de Carmel en 2011 ou l'opération "Hot Fire" en 2019.
Le 4 avril 2023, les administrations postales de Chypre et d'Israël ont mis en circulation un timbre commun consacré à cette entraide entre les 2 pays dans la lutte aérienne contre les incendies. 
Due to their proximity, experience and deal with situations of a similar nature resulting from natural or man-made hazards, an interstate agreement and cooperation protocol was signed in 2010 between the Cyprus Fire Service and the Israel Fire and Rescue Service.

En raison de leur proximité, de leur expérience et de leur gestion de situations de nature similaire résultant de risques naturels ou d'origine humaine, un accord interétatique et un protocole de coopération ont été signés en 2010 entre le service d'incendie de Chypre et le service d'incendie et de sauvetage d'Israël.
Depuis 2010, les 2 pays ont régulièrement envoyés des avions en renfort lors d'importants incendies en Israël ou Chypre, en particulier lors des incendies de la forêt de Carmel en 2011 ou l'opération "Hot Fire" en 2019.
Le 4 avril 2023, les administrations postales de Chypre et d'Israël ont mis en circulation un timbre commun consacré à cette entraide entre les 2 pays dans la lutte aérienne contre les incendies.

EUROPA 2023 (Peace - the highest value of humanity) stamp set on FDC from Cyprus

Série EUROPA 2023 (La Paix - la valeur humaine la plus importante) sur FDC de Chypre

Sur proposition de la poste ukrainienne, le thème choisi par l'organisation PostEurop pour les timbres EUROPA 2023 est "La Paix - la valeur humaine la plus importante" ("ΕΙΡΗΝΗ – η μεγαλύτερη αξία της ανθρωπότητας" en grec), en écho à l'agression du pays par la Russie débutée il y a plus d'un an.
Ce choix sonne comme un rappel de la volonté qui avait présidé en 1950 à la création de l'Union européenne après la 2ème Guerre mondiale, résumée par Robert Schuman en une formule désormais célèbre : faire l'Europe pour faire la Paix.
Pour illustrer ce thème 2023, PostEurop a organisé un concours au sein des pays membres et c'est le projet "Nœud de la paix" de la poste luxembourgeoise (auteurs : Linda Bos et Runa Egilsdottir - A Designers' Collective) qui a été choisi, parmi 29 propositions.
Ce projet représente des cœurs entrelacés, et des mains aux doigts entremêlés, inspirés des nœuds d'amour celtiques. Les différentes couleurs renvoient à tous les pays du monde, unis par ce nouveau symbole de paix, une sorte de société fondée sur la coopération, dans laquelle les individus sont solidaires.
On the proposal of the Ukrainian Post, the theme chosen by the PostEurop organization for the EUROPA 2023 stamps is "Peace - the highest value of humanity" ("ΕΙΡΗΝΗ – η μεγαλύτερη αξία της ανθρωπότητας" in Greek), echoing the aggression of the country by Russia which began more than one year ago.
This choice sounds like a reminder of the will that presided over the creation of the European Union in 1950 after the Second World War, summed up by Robert Schuman in a now famous formula: make Europe to make Peace.
To illustrate this 2023 theme, PostEurop organized a competition within the member countries and the Luxembourg Post's "Peace Knot" project (authors: Linda Bos and Runa Egilsdottir - A Designers' Collective) was chosen from among 29 proposals.
This project represents intertwined hearts, and hands with intertwined fingers, inspired by Celtic love knots. The different colors refer to all the countries of the world, united by this new symbol of peace, a kind of society based on cooperation, in which individuals stand together.

Le 9 mai 2023 (Journée de l'Europe), la poste chypriote a mis en circulation sa série EUROPA, avec un timbre (0,64€, tirage : 55000) reproduisant ce "Nœud de la paix" commun et un autre timbre (0,34€, tirage : 55000) représentant le projet de la poste chypriote (conception : Antonia Hadjigeorgiou) pour ce concours PostEurop. 
Comme les années précédentes, ces 2 timbres ont été imprimés chacun en feuillet de 8 timbres ainsi que dans un même carnet (tirage : 6000 carnets) composé de 8 timbres (4 de chaque) non dentelés sur un côté. Cette série EUROPA figure sur le pli FDC officiel ci-dessus (tirage : 4000). 
Le 2ème timbre EUROPA illustre le fait que nos enfants sont l'avenir - représentant un enfant jouant avec son ombre pour faire apparaître une colombe de la paix, imaginant un avenir paisible et plus lumineux, sur fond d'arc-en-ciel.
A noter que la poste chypriote est une des rares administrations postales à avoir ajouter la mention "Paix - Europe" en anglais sur ses 2 timbres EUROPA.
On May 9, 2023 (the Europe Day), the Cyprus Post put its EUROPA series into circulation, with a stamp (€0.64, print run: 55,000) reproducing this common "Peace Knot" and another stamp (€0.34, print run: 55,000) representing the Cyprus Post's project (design: Antonia Hadjigeorgiou) for this PostEurop competition.
As in previous years, these two stamps were each printed in a sheetlet of 8 stamps as well as in the same booklet (print run: 6,000 booklets) composed of 8 stamps (4 of each) not perforated on one side. This EUROPA series appears on the official FDC above (print run: 4,000).
The 2nd EUROPA stamp illustrates that our children are the future - depicting a child playing with his shadow to make a dove of peace appear, imagining a peaceful and brighter future, with a rainbow in the background.
To note that the Cyprus Post is one of the few postal administrations to have added the mention "Peace - Europe" in English on its two EUROPA stamps.

"FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022" stamp on FDC from Cyprus

Timbre "Coupe du monde de la FIFA Qatar 2022" sur FDC de Chypre

Le 18 novembre 2022, 2 jours avant le match d'ouverture Qatar-Équateur, la poste de Chypre a mis en circulation un timbre consacré à la 22ème édition de la Coupe du monde de la FIFA, organisée du 20 novembre au 18 décembre 2022 au Qatar.
Malgré les polémiques (nombreux morts lors de la construction des stades, stades climatisés, droits humains...) liées à cette compétition organisée exceptionnellement en fin d'année, cette Coupe du monde s'est globalement bien déroulée, pour la 1ère fois dans un pays arabe, avec une victoire finale de l'Argentine contre la France...
L'équipe nationale du Qatar, éliminée dès le 1er tour, participait pour la 1ère fois à une Coupe du monde, la seule des 32 équipes engagées dans ce cas.
Depuis l'indépendance du pays en 1960, Chypre a participé à 16 phases de qualifications (UEFA) à cette Coupe du monde sans parvenir à se qualifier jusqu'à maintenant.
On November 18, 2022, two days before the Qatar-Ecuador opening match, the Post of Cyprus put into circulation a stamp dedicated to the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup, organized from November 20 to December 18, 2022 in Qatar.
Despite the controversies (many deaths during the construction of stadiums, air-conditioned stadiums, human rights, etc.) linked to this competition organized exceptionally at the end of the year, this World Cup went well overall, for the first time in an Arab country, with a final victory for Argentina against France...
The national team of Qatar, eliminated in the first round, participated for the first time in a World Cup, the only one of the 32 teams involved in this case.
Since the country's independence in 1960, Cyprus has participated in 16 qualifying phases (UEFA) for this World Cup without managing to qualify so far.

Les ondulations de ce logo font allusion aux dunes des déserts de sable caractéristiques du pays hôte, tandis que sa forme est à la fois celle du chiffre 8, comme le nombre de stades qui ont accueilli la compétition, et celle du symbole de l'infini, qui vient souligner les innombrables interconnexions qu'implique la compétition.
Les contours reprennent ceux du trophée et font référence au keffieh utilisé dans les pays arabes.

The undulations of this logo allude to the dunes of the characteristic sand deserts of the host country, while its shape is both that of the number 8, like the number of stadiums that have hosted the competition, and that of the symbol of infinity, which underlines the innumerable interconnections involved in the competition.
The contours take up those of the trophy and refer to the keffiyeh used in Arab countries.

Pour rappel, depuis 2014, certains pays membres (23 au total actuellement) de l'Union Postale pour la Méditerranée (PUMed), une union restreinte de l'UPU, émettent chaque année des timbres "Euromed Postal" ayant un thème commun lié à la région méditerranéenne.
Après les "bijoux artisanaux de la Méditerranée" en 2021, les 14 administrations postales participantes en 2022 ont émis, pour la plupart, des timbres consacrés à différentes cités antiques du pourtour de la mer Méditerranée.
La version chypriote de ce timbre (0,64€, tirage : 55000, imprimé en feuillet de 8 timbres), conçu par Melanie Efstathiadou, mis en circulation le 11 juillet 2022, figure sur le FDC officiel ci-dessous (tirage : 4500).

Ce timbre est consacré au site archéologique d'Amathonte, situé sur la côte sud de l'île, près de Limassol. La ville, fondée vers 1050 avant J.C., a été le siège d'un des royaumes de Chypre et a abrité un sanctuaire consacré à Aphrodite.
Deux vases en pierre monumentaux avaient été placés au 7ème siècle avant J.C. sur l'acropole, à l'extérieur du temple d'Aphrodite. Un vase a été transféré au Musée du Louvre à Paris en 1865, le 2ème, cassé, est resté sur le site, au sommet de l'acropole (c'est ce vase qui figure sur le timbre).

This stamp is dedicated to the archaeological site of Amathus, located on the south coast of the island, near Limassol. The city, founded around 1050 BC, was the seat of one of the kingdoms of Cyprus and housed a sanctuary dedicated to Aphrodite.
Two monumental stone vases had been placed in the 7th century BC on the acropolis, outside the temple of Aphrodite. A vase was transferred to the Louvre Museum in Paris in 1865, the 2nd, broken, remained on the site, at the top of the acropolis (it is this vase which is featured on the stamp).

Comme les années précédentes, ces 2 timbres (conception : Ioanna Kalli) ont été imprimés chacun en feuillet de 8 timbres ainsi que dans un même carnet (tirage : 6500 carnets) composé de 8 timbres (4 de chaque) non dentelés sur un côté.
Cette série EUROPA figure sur le pli FDC officiel ci-dessous (tirage : 4500). A noter qu'aucune mention de lieu précis ne figure sur le TAD Premier Jour mais uniquement "Chypre" en grec, turc et anglais (comme sur les timbres).

On May 6, 2022, the Cyprus Post released its EUROPA series (2 stamps) dedicated this year to the theme of Stories and myths, in particular the secret treasure of Regina and the legend of Digenis Akritas.

The stamp on the left (€0.34, print run: 90,000) is dedicated to the legend of the secret treasure of Regina, namely the Queen, a mysterious person mentioned in several myths and legends of Cyprus.

 

Certaines de ces légendes sont liées au château de Vufavendo, dans lequel, selon la tradition, Regina a caché ses trésors dans l'une de ses 101 chambres. L'une des légendes raconte que chaque nuit où la résurrection du Christ était célébrée, une porte secrète s'ouvrait pendant une courte période à travers laquelle quelqu'un pouvait accéder à la chambre de Regina contenant les trésors. Une nuit de la résurrection du Christ, un berger est entré dans la pièce, mais la porte s'est fermée avant qu'il ne puisse récupérer les trésors. Le berger avait une grenade avec lui et en mangeant un morceau chaque jour, il a été maintenu en vie jusqu'à l'année suivante lorsque la nuit de la Résurrection la porte secrète s'est à nouveau ouverte.
L'autre timbre (0,64€, tirage : 55000) est consacré à la légende de Digenis Akritas, qui était le plus courageux de tous les Akrites, qui gardaient les frontières de Byzance. Ils ont semé la peur et la terreur chez les Sarrasins venus des montagnes d'Asie centrale. La pierre géante qui domine la mer et s'appelle "Petra tou Romiou", est associée à la légende de Digenes Akritas, dont la région tire son nom.
Selon la légende, Digenis Akritas, afin de repousser les Sarrasins qui se préparaient à piller la région, s'est emparé d'une main de la chaîne de montagnes de Kyrenia, qui prit le nom de Pentadaktylos (signifiant "cinq doigts") et de son autre main, souleva cet énorme rocher "Petra tou Romiou" et le jeta à la mer contre les sarrasins qui prirent la fuite.
Some of these legends are connected to the castle of Vufavendo, in which, according to tradition, Regina hid her treasures in one of its 101 rooms. One of the legends says that each night when the resurrection of Christ was celebrated, a secret door opened for a short time through which someone could gain access to Regina's chamber containing the treasures. One night of Christ's resurrection, a shepherd entered the room, but the door closed before he could collect the treasures. The shepherd had a pomegranate with him and by eating a piece every day he was kept alive until the following year when on the night of the Resurrection the secret door opened again.
The other stamp (€0.64, print run: 55,000) is dedicated to the legend of Digenis Akritas, who was the bravest of all the Akrites, who guarded the borders of Byzantium. They caused fear and terror among the Saracens who came from the mountains of Central Asia. The giant stone that dominates the sea and is called "Petra tou Romiou", is associated with the legend of Digenes Akritas, from which the region takes its name.
According to legend, Digenis Akritas, in order to repel the Saracens who were preparing to plunder the region, grabbed onto the mountain range of Kyrenia by his one hand as a result of which it took the name Pentadaktylos (meaning "five fingers") and with his other hand lifted this huge rock "Petra tou Romiou" and threw it into the sea against the Saracens who left fleeing.

Ce timbre illustre un pendentif en or datant du 14ème au 13ème siècle avant J.C., trouvé lors de fouilles à Engomi (site archéologique d'Alasia) et exposé au musée archéologique de Chypre. Un pendentif similaire se trouve au British Museum.
La conception est celle d'une grenade creuse avec un anneau au sommet pour la suspension. Toute la surface est recouverte de douze rangées horizontales de petits triangles granulés.

This stamp illustrates a gold  pendant from the 14th-13th century B.C., found during excavations at Engomi (Alasia archaeological site) and now exhibited in the Archeological Museum in Cyprus. A similar pendant is in the British Museum.
The design is that of a hollow pomegranate with a ring at the top for suspension. The whole surface is covered with twelve horizontal rows of small granulated triangles.
