"100 Years of the FIP - Fédération Internationale de Philatélie" s/s on cover from Slovenia

The Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP - International Federation of Philately) was founded on June 18, 1926, in Paris by representatives from six countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
From the outset, the FIP has worked to promote stamp collecting and philately, foster friendship among nations, maintain ties with the philatelic sector and postal administrations, and support philatelic exhibitions through its patronage and recognition.
Today, the FIP brings together 90 national federations; with them, it organizes conferences and seminars for aspiring jurors during its exhibitions and shapes the evolution of collecting and exhibiting practices by introducing new competitive classes.
Finally, it sponsors and co-organizes—alongside national federations—world exhibitions (both general and specialized) that serve as the true "Olympic Games" of philately.

The FIP is thus celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026, and a number of postal administrations have issued - or will issue - stamps on this theme, most featuring the official 100th-anniversary logo: Belarus, Monaco, Dominican Republic, Serbia, Thailand, Bulgaria, Russia, Slovenia, Romania, Brazil, Uruguay, Israel, Cyprus, Jordan, Pakistan, Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo), United Arab Emirates, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Greece, and others.
On May 8, 2026, the Slovenian Post issued a souvenir sheet (rate "D" for ordinary international first-class mail - currently €2.21, print run: 13,000, design: Gorazd Učakar) commemorating the FIP's 100th anniversary ("100-letnica Mednarodne filatelistične zveze"); it was used on the cover above, sent on May 20, 2026, from the city of Kranj. Many thanks, Petra!
The FIP emblem, combined with the 100th-anniversary logo, appears in the upper margin, while the stamp itself depicts a globe with continents and oceans formed by multicolored stylized stamps.
The Slovenian Philatelic Association (Filatelistična zveza Slovenije – FZS) has been a member of the FIP since 1993.

"Two humanitarians: Queen Maria of Yugoslavia and her lady-in-waiting Franja Tavčar" joint s/s with Serbia, on cover from Slovenia

On June 12, 2026, the postal administrations of Slovenia and Serbia issued a joint souvenir sheet honoring two remarkable humanitarian women : Queen Maria of Yugoslavia and her lady-in-waiting, Franja Tavčar.
Their close friendship, spanning from 1925 to 1938, united them in selfless devotion to destitute students; sick, infirm, or abandoned women; prisoners of war and other detainees; and, above all, children.
The Slovenian version of this souvenir sheet (rate "C" for standard international mail - currently €1.96, print run: 10,000), designed by Nadežda Skočajić (Serbian Post), was used on the cover below, sent on June 22, 2026, from the city of Kranj. Many thanks, Petra!
Queen Maria (1900-1961), born a Princess of Romania, was the wife of King Alexander I. Following his tragic assassination in France in 1934, she continued her charitable activities with renewed determination.
Within the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, she actively collaborated with the Yugoslav Red Cross Committee and the St. John Society, while also establishing an aid fund for impoverished and sick children as well as the elderly.

After falling ill in 1939, she settled in the United Kingdom; during the Second World War, she organized the shipment of aid to occupied Yugoslavia from there, working through the International Committee of the Red Cross in London. Under the pseudonym Mary Djordjevic, she provided support to over 200,000 detainees, prisoners of war, and internees across Europe.
Franja Tavčar was born in Ljubljana in 1868. Orphaned at a very young age, she was deeply affected by this ordeal, which shaped the course of her life. As the wife of the writer and politician Ivan Tavčar, she dedicated her fortune to charitable causes.
She presided over the Ljubljana Women's Association and was actively involved in the Cyril and Methodius Society, the General Association of Slovenian Women, and the Sokol Women's Gymnastics Society.
She paid special attention to the education of girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Through the Red Cross, she provided aid to Balkan nations in conflict and, in 1910, received the Order of Saint Sava from the Kingdom of Serbia.
In 1925, she became a lady-in-waiting to Queen Marie and founded the Home for Mothers and Children in Ljubljana; there, she cared for abandoned mothers and sick children, notably enabling them to recuperate at her seaside home in Kraljevica.
She commissioned the construction of the "Jozefišče," a home for disabled women, and provided meals to needy students at her Ljubljana residence, while also supporting artists such as Josip Murn, Ivana Kobilca, Ivan Vavpotič, and others. In 1928, she became the first woman to be named an honorary citizen of Ljubljana.

EUROPA 2026 (70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps) stamp set on cover from Slovenia

The year 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps, a philatelic initiative launched to strengthen relations between European countries and promote lasting peace and unity.
First issued in 1956 by six nations – Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, founding members of the European Union – this program has gradually expanded to include 53 participating postal organizations.
Last year, PostEurop's Stamps and Philately Working Group organized an internal competition to choose a common design on the theme "70th Anniversary of the EUROPA Stamp: United by...".
Guided by shared values such as communication, innovation, cooperation, and common roots, the members submitted 15 creative proposals, each presenting a unique vision.
Following a vote by 50 postal organizations, the Finnish Post (Posti) won the competition, ahead of the Post of Bosnia & Herzegovina (Sarajevo) and the Post of Luxembourg.
The design by artist and graphic designer Klaus Welp will therefore be featured on the EUROPA stamps issued in 2026.

On May 8, 2026, the Slovenian Post issued a two-stamp series dedicated to this 70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps. Both stamps feature the EUROPA logo: one reproduces the design by Klaus Welp (rate "D" for ordinary international first-class mail - currently €2.21, print run: 23,000), while the other features the Slovenian entry for this competition (rate "C" for standard international mail - currently €1.96, print run: 23,000).
These two stamps - each printed in a sheetlet containing eight stamps and a central label - have been used on the cover above, sent from the city of Kranj on May 20, 2026. Many thanks, Petra!
The common EUROPA stamp combines abstract and symbolic elements. The diagonally ascending dotted line represents both the perforation of a stamp and the progressive work of the PostEurop. The seven dots, connected by a straight line, symbolize seventy years of unified effort by postal operators across the continent.
The blending gradients and dotted patterns in the background form a cohesive and vibrant surface, reflecting the joyful mix of colours from the European flag and symbolizing the unity of all member nations.
The other stamp (designed by Natalia Berezina) depicts a tree characteristic of all European countries, while also representing a community of leaves which, despite their different colours and sizes, form a harmonious and colourful tree called "Europe".
It is worth noting that Slovenia issued its first EUROPA stamps in 1993 (Contemporary Art).

"Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games" stamp set on cover from Slovenia

Merci beaucoup Petra !

Slovenia won 4 medals (2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze), one of its best results ever, following the 8 medals won at the Sochi Games in 2014 and the 7 medals in Beijing in 2022.
On January 30, 2026, the Slovenian Post put into circulation a beautiful series (2 stamps) commemorating the 25th Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games, held from February 6 to 22, 2026. These two stamps (designed by Svetlana Milijaševič), printed in a single sheet of six stamps (three of each) + three central labels ("Milano Cortinan 2026," logo of the Slovenian Olympic Committee), have been used on the cover below, sent on February 10, 2026, from the city of Kranj. Thank you so much, Petra!

These two stamps respectively depict alpine skiing (rate "C" for standard international mail - currently €1.96, print run: 23,000) and ski jumping (rate "D" for ordinary international first-class mail - currently €2.21, print run: 30,000), the two sports in which Slovenian athletes have won the most medals since 1992 (19 medals out of a total of 28).
No medals were won in alpine skiing at the Milano Cortina 2026 Games, but all four Slovenian medals have been won in ski jumping events: gold in the mixed team event (Nika Vodan, Nika Prevc, Anže Lanišek, Domen Prevc), gold in the men's large hill (Domen Prevc), silver in the women's normal hill (Nika Prevc), and bronze in the women's large hill (Nika Prevc).
The siblings Nika Prevc and Domen Prevc, Slovenian heroes of these Games and already world champions in Trondheim in 2025, were featured on stamps issued in their honor on September 26, 2025.
I don't know if the Slovenian Post will soon issue (as it did for previous Games) stamps honoring the Olympic champions in Milano Cortina 2026...

Mountaineering, technical and industrial heritage stamps on cover from Slovenia

A big thank you, Petra, for this lovely cover from Slovenia, sent on January 5, 2026 from the town of Kranj, franked with three stamps issued on September 26, 2025!
The stamp on the right (permanent rate "D", design: Grafika Zupan based on a photograph by Danilo Cedilnik) commemorates 50 years since Slovenia conquered its first 8,000-meter summit.
The first Slovenian expeditions in the 1960s (Trisual 1960, Kangbachen 1965, and Annapurna IV 1969) laid the foundations for Slovenian mountaineering in the Himalayas. An expedition to climb the south face of Makalu (8,485 meters, on the border between Tibet and Nepal) was organized in 1972 and reached an altitude of 8,000 meters, although it did not reach the summit.
A new expedition was therefore organized in 1975 and finally reached the summit in October of the same year: the first ascent of Makalu via the south face. Thanks to this extraordinary feat, Slovenian mountaineering reached the summits of the world, both literally and figuratively, subsequently consolidating its position with the ascents of Hidden Peak, Everest, and Lhotse, as well as the numerous successes of younger generations of climbers.

The stamp in the center (permanent rate "B", design: Edi Berk) commemorates the 200th anniversary of beer brewing in the town of Laško.
Since 1825, this town in the east-central part of the country has indeed been known for brewing beer using thermal water, particularly through "Pivovarna Laško," the largest brewery in the country.
The brewery was founded in 1825 by Franz Geyer, a gingerbread baker and mead producer. After the end of World War II in 1945, Laško was the fifth largest brewery in Yugoslavia, and by 1991, it was the largest of the 28 Yugoslav breweries. It lost a significant portion of the Yugoslav market in 1991 following Slovenia's declaration of independence.
The third stamp from the left (permanent rate "C", design: villa creativa based on a photograph by Blaž Zupančič) is dedicated to Slovenian technical heritage and, in particular, the Pony folding bicycle.
Half a century of bicycle production at the Rog factory in Ljubljana has left its mark on the history of the Slovenian cycling industry. In 1963, Rog became Yugoslavia's leading bicycle manufacturer, with 113,688 units wheeled off the production line that year.
In 1964, Rog responded to the need for a small, reliable, and affordable means of transport by launching the Pony, a 20-inch wheel folding bicycle inspired by the Italian Graziella, with some modifications. By 1969, while Rog held 57% of the Yugoslavian bicycle market, the Pony accounted for 43% of the factory's total production.
The Pony not only met with great success in Yugoslavia, but also paved the way for Rog's success in export markets. Thanks to its immense popularity, the Pony, Slovenia's first folding bicycle, is considered one of the iconic products of Yugoslav industry.

"World champions Nika and Domen Prevc" stamps on cover from Slovenia

Merci beaucoup Petra !
Ski jumping is much more than a sport in Slovenia. It is a way of thinking, a feeling, a shared moment when we hold our breath, when we soar alongside the jumper and watch with deep pride as our small country demonstrates once again why it belongs at the very pinnacle of the world ski jumping elite – where it has been for decades.
The 2024-2025 season was another remarkable one for Slovenian ski jumping, particularly at the 2025 World Championships in Trondheim, where siblings Nika Prevc and Domen Prevc became double world champions, respectively in the normal hill and large hill events, and in the large hill and team events.
On September 26, 2025, the Slovenian Post issued two stamps in their honor, to celebrate Nika Prevc and Domen Prevc's achievements on the roof of the world.
These two stamps (designed by Mario Petrak, print run: 25,000 each), printed in a single sheetlet of six stamps (three pairs), have been used on the cover below, sent on January 5, 2026, from Kranj, the Prevc family's hometown. Thank you so much, Petra!

Nika Prevc (born in 2005), featured on the stamp on the left (rate "C" for standard international mail - currently €1.96), was the undisputed star of the 2024-2025 season. With 15 victories, including ten consecutive wins, two gold medals at the World Championships, and a second overall World Cup title, she became a symbol of sporting excellence.
The highlight of her winter season came in Vikersund in March, when she set the women's world record in ski flying with a jump of 236 meters.
The other stamp (rate "D" for standard international first-class mail - currently €2.21) is dedicated to Domen Prevc (born in 1999), two-time world champion. In Planica, Slovenia's favorite ski jumping venue, before a captivated crowd at the Gorišek Brothers ski jump, he achieved an incredible jump of 254.5 meters, a new world record.
Domen Prevc also won the 2025 Ski Flying Crystal Globe and the 2025-2026 Four Hills Tournament.
It's worth noting that their brother, Peter Prevc, had already been honored on stamps issued in 2016 (Ski Flying World Champion and Ski Jumping Crystal Globe winner) and 2022 (Olympic Mixed Team Champion).

"Pioneers of Electric Television and Aviation" stamps on cover from Slovenia

A big thank you, Petra, for this lovely cover from Slovenia, sent on August 4, 2025, from the city of Kranj!
The souvenir sheet on the right (€1.20, print run: 15,000, design: villa creativa), issued on March 28, 2025, is dedicated to Baron Anton Codelli (1875-1954) and his patent for a process for electric television.
Known primarily for introducing the first automobile to Ljubljana, he was in fact a multi-talented inventor and engineer. In addition to his automotive inventions, he built the first longwave radio link between Africa and Europe for the German telecommunications company Telefunken.
He also produced two films in Africa and became Slovenia's first film producer. He developed inventions related to television and patented an electromechanical-optical image transmission system.
Holder of 31 patents, he designed a giant airship and worked on many other projects including electrically charged water jets, mechanical encryption, measurement of distances, automatic determination of the position of ships and aircraft, an aerial torpedo and an armoured vehicle in the shape of a steel sphere. He developed mechanically resistant tyres, an electromagnetic radiation detector, a high-frequency telephone, a self-propelled lawn mower and a motorboat...

The stamp on the left (€2.81, print run: 25,000, design: Robert Žvokelj), issued on November 22, 2024, is dedicated to another, more contemporary pioneer, Ivo Boscarol (born in 1956), in the field of electric aviation.
Ivo Boscarol is by international standards a top producer of ultralight and experimental aircraft. After a start in sports flying, he went into the development and manufacture of aircraft distinguished by the highest technical, safety, aesthetic and environmentally friendly properties.
His visionary approach integrated into the classic basis the most advanced technology, and his production units around the world have continuously been laboratories for the new concept and philosophy of flying. In the world of aviation he is known as a pioneer of electric aviation, for which he also received the title Living Legend of Aviation.
In 1989, he created Pipistrel d.o.o, an ultralight aircraft production company based in Ajdovščina, and in particular the Pipistrel Sinus, depicted on the stamp.

"Peace - 80th Anniversary of the United Nations" stamp on cover from Slovenia

Many postal administrations will issue stamps in 2025 dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, reproducing the official logo of this anniversary and sometimes its associated slogan, "Building our future together".
On May 9, 2025, the Slovenian Post released an interesting set (5 stamps) entitled "Peace", including one (€1.79) reproducing this logo of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
This stamp and the other four (print run: 25,000 each, design: Marko Prah) have been used on the cover below sent on August 25, 2025, from the town of Kranj. Thank you very much, Petra!
For 80 years, by promoting peace, human rights and social progress, including access to healthcare and education, the United Nations has improved the lives of people around the world, creating better living standards for all.
The other 4 stamps in this series illustrate various events that allowed Slovenia to live in peace after the end of the Second World War, in particular partisans greeting the crowd on board a truck in the streets of Ljubljana on May 9, 1945 (€0.92).

A session of the first Slovenian government in Ajdovščina on May 5, 1945, is depicted on the following stamp (€1.07). The Slovenian resistance movement consistently sought to transform itself into a state organization capable of governing Slovenia within a federal Yugoslavia, based on national self-determination.
On January 20 and 21, 1945, in the midst of the final battles of World War II, the only known wartime winter sports competition took place in Cerkno, in a partisan-held region. Sports competitions never completely disappeared during the war, and many were also organized within military units. The stamp (€1.20) features a ski jumping competition in Cerkno on November 7, 1944.
The fourth stamp (€1.50) depicts the front page of the newspaper "Partizanski dnevnik" from December 24, 1944. "Partizanski dnevnik" was the only daily newspaper of the Slovenian national liberation movement; it first appeared in November 1943. Like all clandestine partisan publications, the newspaper was distributed daily by courier in the Primorska and Gorenjska regions.
On May 13, 1945, the newspaper was renamed "Primorski dnevnik" and is still published today as the main newspaper of the Slovene minority in Italy.

Euromed Postal 2025 (Resources of the Mediterranean) stamp on cover from Slovenia

Merci beaucoup Petra !
As a reminder, on July 9, 2007, the first international Mediterranean postal convention was signed in Marseille. Since that date, the Postal Union for the Mediterranean (PUMed), a restricted union of the UPU, was created on March 11, 2011 and currently includes postal operators from 23 countries in the Mediterranean basin (also including Portugal and Mauritania).
Since 2014, some of these countries have issued "Euromed Postal" stamps every year illustrating a common theme, the Resources of the Mediterranean ("
Naravna bogastva Mediterana" in Slovene) in 2025.
Unless I'm mistaken, 14 countries have issued Euromed Postal stamps in 2025 to date, including Slovenia, with a beautiful stamp (design by Mario Petrak based on a photo by Jaka Ivančič) put into circulation on July 14, 2025, depicting an iconic local karst landscape.
This stamp (rate "D" for ordinary international first-class mail - currently €2.06) was used on the right side of the cover below, sent on August 4, 2025, from Kranj. Thank you very much, Petra!

The Karst edge ("Kraški rob" in Slovene) is an inland area of Koper where the continental Slovenia meets the coast, and the Karst plateau turns into the flysch landscape of Slovenian Istria, thus representing a geological and climatic border.
It extends from Socerb (along the Slovenia–Italy border) to Mlini (along the Slovenia–Croatia border).
In this area, you will have the opportunity to admire the magnificent natural sites of the Karst and the sub-Mediterranean landscape (like the one depicted on the stamp). The steep limestone walls are home to endangered bird species, and the meadows are home to other rare or endangered animal species. Along the Karst edge are located villages classified as protected cultural heritage sites (Osp, Socerb, Hrastovlje, Črni Kal, etc.).
The other stamp above (rate "B" for ordinary domestic mail up to 50g - €1.20, design: Mario Petrak), issued on the same day, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the University of Maribor.
Founded in 1975, it now comprises 17 faculties, a university library, and several student residences, creating a dynamic environment for teaching, research, and cooperation with the region.
The historic building (dating from 1886) housing the university headquarters is depicted in the center, with the left side depicting the signing of the founding document in 1975 and the right side featuring the Trisat satellite, the first Slovenian nanosatellite (launched into space in 2022), developed by experts from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Maribor and the company SkyLabs.

"International Day of Sport" and "European Space Agency" s/s on cover from Slovenia

Merci beaucoup Petra !
In 2013, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed April 6 as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, commemorating the opening of the first modern Olympic Games, held in Athens on April 6, 1896.
The proclamation of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace highlights the role of sport as a powerful tool for promoting peace, social progress, improved health and quality of life, gender equality, and education. Sport also helps reduce inequalities, integrate marginalized groups, and connect people around the world. Sport builds bridges between communities, encourages participation, and contributes to a more inclusive and just society, while providing significant support for the Sustainable Development Goals.
To celebrate this Day, the Slovenian Post has released a souvenir sheet (€1.79, print run: 15,000, design: Tija Šadl Praprotnik) on March 28, 2025. This souvenir sheet have been used on the left of the cover below, sent from Kranj on May 22, 2025. Thank you very much, Petra!

The other souvenir sheet above (permanent rate "C" for standard international mail - currently €1.79, print run: 15,000, design: Maja Tomažič), issued on the same day, features the slogan "Slovenia. Small on Earth. Big in Space" recalling that Slovenia became a full member of the European Space Agency (ESA) on January 1, 2025.
This milestone can be considered a success for Slovenia's rapidly expanding space sector, comprised of innovative and pioneering companies and research institutes. Today, Slovenia is internationally recognized in the fields of Earth observation, space data processing (applied to sectors ranging from agriculture to rescue operations and transportation), and control and measurement systems...
The first two Slovenian satellites, Nemo HD and TriSat, were launched into low-Earth orbit in 2020.
In 1928, Slovenian engineer Hermann Potočnik, writing under the pseudonym Hermann Noordung, published a book in Berlin entitled "The Problem of Space Travel", in which he outlined his pioneering ideas on spaceflight and detailed his plans for a space station, which he named Wohnrad (Living Wheel), depicted on the stamp and the lower left margin of the souvenir sheet.

EUROPA 2025 (National Archaeological Discoveries) stamp set on cover from Slovenia

The theme chosen by the PostEurop association for the EUROPA 2025 stamps is entitled "National Archaeological Discoveries" ("Nacionalne arheološke najdbe" in Slovene).
On May 9, 2025 (Europe Day), the Slovenian Post released a beautiful set (2 stamps) illustrating this theme, in collaboration with the National Museum of Slovenia in Ljubljana.
These two stamps (print run: 25,000 each), designed by Edi Berk based on photographs by Tomaž Lauko and each printed in a sheetlet consisting of 8 stamps + 1 label, have been used on the cover below sent on May 22, 2025, from the city of Kranj. Thank you very much, Petra!
The stamp on the right (€1.79) depicts a bronze statuette of Apollo (11.5 cm high), discovered in the Ljubljanica River, near the village of Blatna Brezovica.
The Ljubljanica River is indeed a popular site for archaeologists and treasure hunters. Sites located on the river between Ljubljana and Vrhnika have yielded fragments of history, from the Stone Age to the Renaissance, belonging to various groups, from local ancient cultures to more well-known groups such as the Romans and Celts.

This statuette depicts a naked man, with a hairstyle typical of Hellenistic representations of the Greek and Roman god Apollo. The necklace, however, does not correspond to traditional representations of Apollo and is a typically Celtic element. The pose of the body and the position of the arms are reminiscent of Italo-Etruscan statuettes.
This statuette is believed to have been made in northeastern Italy or in the vicinity of the site where it was discovered. It was probably made during the Romanization period of the Vrhnika and Ljubljana regions, in the middle or second half of the 1st century BC. The statuette was probably thrown into the river as a votive offering.
The other stamp (€2.06) is dedicated to a round bronze brooch plated with an iron core, representing a centaur archer. This type of brooch is relatively common in 8th- and 9th-century Slavic cemeteries in the Slovenian region of Gorenjska, such as this example discovered in the Brda cemetery near Bled.
It may have been made by a Christian inspired by an illustration in an illuminated manuscript. However, the Slavs, pagans when they settled in this region in the 6th century and whose Christianization under the Carolingians was only just beginning in the 8th century, probably did not see this motif as a Christian symbol, but as a pagan one.

The centaur archer may have reminded them of Perun the Thunderer, the supreme god of the Slavs, who could also be depicted as a horseman with a thunderbolt or bow in his hand.

"European Capital of Culture - Nova Gorica and Gorizia" joint s/s with Slovenia, on cover from Italy

After World War II, in 1947, Italy signed the Treaty of Paris. As a result, most of the Slovenian-speaking areas of the province of Gorizia were transferred to Yugoslavia.
Yugoslavia thus took control of the north-east of the city of Gorizia, including the railway station and the railway line, with the new border running just west of the station. The border was marked by a fence, the "Gorizia Wall", and the area of the current Piazza della Transalpina was thus divided between the two countries. Construction of the new town of Nova Gorica, on the Slovenian side, began in 1948.
In 1991, Slovenia became independent. In 2004, it joined the European Union and the separation fence with Italy was dismantled and a circular mosaic was installed on the ground, marking the former location of the separation wall.
In 2025, the cities of Nova Gorica and Gorizia, which together form a metropolitan area, are united to form the first cross-border European Capital of Culture.
On February 6, 2025, the postal administrations of Slovenia and Italy released an attractive joint souvenir sheet (two stamps) dedicated to this European Capital of Culture.

The Italian version of this self-adhesive souvenir sheet (design: Matias Hermo, print run: 100,002), consisting of two stamps ("B zone 1" rate - €1.35 for a shipment up to 20g to European and Mediterranean countries), was used on the above cover sent in March 2025 (no cancellation unfortunately...) from the city of Bologna. Thank you very much Salvatore!
The medieval Gorizia Castle and the Novi Gorica railway station (opened in 1906), located on the Piazza della Transalpina (called "Europe Square" in Slovenian), marking the border between the two countries, are depicted on both stamps.
"GO! 2025" is the theme of this European Capital of Culture, bringing together people from both sides of the border and, as such, an excellent opportunity to overcome all that separates them. This is why the common thread of this project is the absence of borders, the ability to live in complete freedom, transcending established frameworks and overcoming obstacles.
Nova Gorica and Gorizia are already considered a model of cross-border cooperation in Europe, and with "GO! 2025", the organizers aim to prove that life without borders and friendly coexistence are possible, despite a sometimes bitter and tragic past.
For the record, the German city of Chemnitz is also the European Capital of Culture in 2025.

The same two stamps from the souvenir sheet were used on the second cover above, sent by Salvatore on February 17, 2025, from Bologna.
The circular mosaic installed on the ground, marking the former location of the separation wall between the two cities, is also depicted in the top left corner on these two joint Italian and Slovenian stamps.

"European Capital of Culture - Nova Gorica and Gorizia" joint s/s with Italy, on cover from Slovenia

The Slovenian version of this souvenir sheet (design: M. Hermo, F. Gallina, print run: 15,000), consisting of two stamps (permanent rate "C" for standard international mail - currently €1.79), was used on the above cover sent on February 25, 2025, from the town of Kranj. Thank you very much, Petra!

"Sports - Alpine skiing" stamp set on cover from Slovenia

Merci beaucoup Petra !
"Anyone who doesn't ski isn't a Slovene!" - this is a saying that has been heard recently all over the country, on the sunny side of the Alps, where skiing has long been a part of life, as evidenced by the description of skiers from the Bloke Plateau skiing down the snowy slopes found in Johann Weikhard Valvasor's (1641-1693) book "The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola" published in 1689.
Slovenia has a skiing tradition that goes back more than 300 years, making it one of the oldest in Europe.
On October 9, 2024, the Slovenian Post put into circulation a nice set (two se-tenant stamps) dedicated to alpine skiing: a women's event (rate "B" for ordinary domestic mail up to 50g - €1.20) and a men's event (rate "D" for ordinary international 1st class mail - currently €2.06).
Designed by Gorazd Učakar, these two stamps (print run: 225,000 each), printed in a single sheet of 6 stamps, have been used on the cover below sent on October 29, 2024 from the city of Kranj. Thank you very much Petra!

To note the logo of SloSki, the Slovenian Ski Association founded in 1948, on the side margins. SloSki is an association of ski clubs in Slovenia that practice alpine skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined, cross-country skiing, biathlon, freestyle skiing, snowboarding and telemark skiing.
The 20th century saw the introduction of skiing to the masses and the beginning of a culture of enthusiastic fans for winter sports. It could be said that this really began when Jure Franko won Yugoslavia's first Winter Olympic medal (silver in giant slalom) at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.
Slovenia won the most recent of nine Olympic medals in alpine skiing in 2014, won by Tina Maze (4 Olympic medals in total, including 2 gold) in Sochi. Slovenian athletes have also won 23 medals at the Alpine Skiing World Championships so far.
The fans' enthusiasm reaches its peak at the two Alpine Skiing World Cup competitions that traditionally take place in Slovenia every winter, in Maribor and/or Kranjska Gora, in slalom and giant slalom.

"150 years of the UPU 1874-2024" stamp on cover from Slovenia

In 2024, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) celebrated its 150th anniversary. On October 9, 1874, 22 countries gathered to sign the Treaty of Bern, creating the General Postal Union, which would later become known as the Universal Postal Union (from 1878).
150 years later, the UPU now unites the postal networks of 192 member countries, having realized its founders' vision of establishing a single postal territory to serve people everywhere.
The UPU's theme for its 150th year, "150 years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nations", recognizes this accomplishment, and reinforces its commitment to serve peoples for the decades and centuries to come.
Throughout 2024, the UPU organized a series of events and campaigns in celebration of its rich past, dedicated present and promising future, in particular using the hashtag #UPU150 on social media.

The UPU, a specialized agency of the United Nations (since 1947) headquartered in Bern, Switzerland, is the second oldest international organization after the International Telecommunications Union, and constitutes the main forum for cooperation between global postal sector players.
On October 9, 2024, World Post Day, the Slovenian Post put into circulation a stamp dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the UPU ("150 let Svetovne poštne zveze" in Slovenian).
This stamp (€1.69, print run: 25,000, design: Gorazd Učakar), printed in a sheet of 25 stamps, was used on the above cover sent on October 29, 2024 from the city of Kranj. Many thanks Petra!
This stamp, including the official logo of this 150th anniversary created by the UPU (top left), is featuring a yellow mailbox operated by the Slovenian Post, with a world map in the background.
Slovenia has been a member of the UPU since August 27, 1992 and Slovenian Marjan Osvald is the Deputy Director General of the International Bureau of the UPU for the period 2022-2025.

"Paris 2024 - Olympic and Paralympic gold medals" stamp set on cover from Slovenia

Merci beaucoup Petra !
As it did in 2008 for the gold medal of Primož Kozmus (hammer throw), in 2012 for the gold medal of Urška Žolnir (judo), in 2016 for the two gold medals of Tina Trstenjak (judo) and Veselka Pevec (shooting), and in 2021 for the three gold medals of Janja Garnbret (climbing), Primož Roglič (cycling) and Benjamin Savšek (canoeing C1), the Slovenian Post has put into circulation, on November 22, 2024, a series of 3 special stamps to celebrate the two Olympic gold medals and the Paralympic gold medal won by Slovenian athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
With these two gold medals (+ one silver medal) in Paris 2024, Slovenia has known the 2nd best Olympic result in its history (after Tokyo 2020) since its first participation in 1992 in Barcelona.
These three new stamps (permanent rate "C" for standard international mail - currently €1.69, print run: 25,000 each) have been used on the cover below sent on November 25, 2024 from the city of Kranj. Many thanks Petra!

Designed by Mario Petrak based on photographs by Vid Ponikvar and Aleš Fevžer, these three stamps were printed (in Croatia) each in a sheetlet of 10 stamps with the words "Olympic/Paralympic Gold Medal for Slovenia" (as above) in the upper and lower margins (in Slovenian, English, French and German).
The emblem of the Slovenian Olympic/Paralympic Committee is also present in the margins as well as on all three stamps.
Already an Olympic champion in Tokyo, Janja Garnbret (born in 1999), multiple gold medalist at world and European championships, has written her name a little more in history by winning a 2nd gold medal (a first for a Slovenian athlete at the Summer Olympics) in climbing, in the combined event (bouldering and lead).
Olympic champion in judo (63 kg), Andreja Leški (born in 1997) became the 3rd Slovenian female Olympic champion in judo, the sport in which Slovenia has won the most medals (7 out of 31) since 1992.
After 3 silver medals and a bronze medal won at the Paralympic Games since 2012, Franček Gorazd Tiršek (born in 1975) became Paralympic champion in Paris, in a shooting event (R4 Mixed 10 metre air rifle standing SH2).
