Euromed Postal 2021 (Handicraft Jewelry in the Mediterranean) stamp on cover from Lebanon

The Lebanese Post has participated since 2014 in the issue of "Euromed Postal" stamps and put into circulation, on August 24, 2021, a new stamp including the Euromed Postal logo (a stylized hawk), dedicated to the theme of Handicraft Jewelry in the Mediterranean this year .
Since 2014, some member countries (currently 23 in total) of the Postal Union for the Mediterranean (PUMed), a restricted union of the UPU, are indeed issuing each year stamps devoted to a common theme related to the Mediterranean region.
This Postal Union for the Mediterranean, created in 2011, is currently including 21 postal operators of Mediterranean countries (Albania, Algeria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Morocco, Monaco, Montenegro, Slovenia, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey) as well as Portugal and Mauritania.

A big thank you Waref for this interesting cover sent on August 26, 2021 from the Chouran district of Beirut, franked with this Euromed Postal stamp (2250 L.L.), in two copies!
This stamp (print run: 200,000), one of the most successful this year in my opinion, was designed in collaboration with Selim Mouzannar (born in 1963), a French-Lebanese jeweler and civil rights activist, president and founder of the Maison Selim Mouzannar, a jewelry and craft house based in Beirut.
In 2016, he won the "Best in Colored Gemstones" category of the Couture Design Award in Las Vegas for his "Amal" necklace. His creations reflect his Middle Eastern roots and are inspired by the architecture and daily life of a city by the sea.
The Mediterranean being an eternal inspiration for Selim Mouzannar, the earrings featured on this stamp come from his "Fish For Love" collection, evoking the delicate pink gold scales of multicolored and sparkling fish.

"75 years of diplomatic relations" joint set with Lebanon on cover from Mexico

On September 30, 2020, an official ceremony took place at the Mexican Embassy in Lebanon, in the presence of the Ambassador and the President of LibanPost, to unveil a nice joint series (2 stamps) dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the establishment. diplomatic relations between Mexico and Lebanon.
This series, released with the support of the Lebanese Center in Mexico City, is featuring major archaeological sites in each country: the Temple of Bacchus in Baalbek for Lebanon and a panoramic view of the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral, located next to the pre-Columbian "Templo Mayor" for Mexico.
This joint issue symbolizes the deep friendship between these 2 countries, having established diplomatic relations on June 12, 1945, 2 years after the independence of Lebanon.
Significant Lebanese immigration to Mexico took place between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century and although the Lebanese made up less than 5% of the total immigrant population in Mexico in the 1930s, they constituted half of the immigrant economic activity.

The Mexican version of this joint series (design: Nancy Torres López for the Mexican post and Myrna Kalfayan for the Lebanese post), composed of 2 se-tenant stamps (7 and 15 pesos, print run: 50,000 each), was used on this letter sent on May 19, 2021 from the city of Hermosillo (capital of the state of Sonora), located in northwestern Mexico. Thank you very much Cecy!
The Temple of Bacchus, one of the best preserved temples of the Greco-Roman world, is one of the main monuments of the ancient city of Baalbek (UNESCO World Heritage since 1984), located at the foot of the south-western slope of Anti-Lebanon, on the edge of the plain of the Bekaa, at an altitude of 1150 m. Its colossal constructions built over more than two centuries make it one of the most famous sanctuaries in the Roman world and a model of Roman architecture of the imperial period. Pilgrims flocked to the shrine to worship the three deities Jupiter, Venus and Mercury.
The Templo Mayor (the "Greater Temple"), located today in central Mexico City, was the name of the great step pyramid of Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztecs. After the Spanish conquest, in the 16th century, the Templo Mayor was destroyed and its exact location was forgotten until archaeological excavations unearthed its foundations in 1978.
To note the presence of the flags of the 2 countries in the lower part of these 2 stamps, including only mentions in Spanish for one stamp and only in Arabic for the other one.

A big thank you also Cecy for sending this official FDC (print run: 700) above concerning this same joint series, with postmark from Hermosillo.
The same buildings are featured on the envelope with a snake's head (Templo Mayor) on the left and a lion's head (gargoyle, Temple of Jupiter at Baalbek) on the right.

Lebanon-France joint stamps (2008) on cover from Lebanon

A big thank you Waref for this interesting letter sent on November 5, 2020 from the Chouran district of Beirut, franked with the Lebanese version (1750 Lebanese pounds) and the French version (€ 0.85) of the joint stamp issued on November 21, 2008 between these 2 countries!
This stamp, designed by Jean-Paul Cousin, printed in France by Phil@poste for the 2 countries, illustrates the ties of friendship between France and Lebanon, with a map of the Mediterranean basin and 2 emblematic trees of each country: an (evergreen ?) oak for France and a Lebanon cedar (Cedrus libani).
To note that a stamp dedicated to the cultural heritage of Lebanon had already been issued in France in 1999, devoted to a mosaic "The abduction of Europe by Zeus" discovered on the site of Byblos, one of the oldest cities in the world.

Ties between Lebanon and France are very old, probably dating back to the 11th century when Mount Lebanon was inhabited by the Maronites, one of the most important Christian communities in the Near East. Over the centuries, this Christian land will forge links with France. During the Seventh Crusade, King Louis IX thus committed to the Maronites to ensure their protection.
More recently, France played a major role in the birth of Lebanon as it exists today, particularly in 1860 when Napoleon III sent an expeditionary force to once again protect the Maronite community, after massacres perpetrated by the Druze Muslims.
The "Greater Lebanon", under French administration, was created in 1920 and the country will then obtain its independence in 1943.
Cultural (more than economic) ties are still very strong between the 2 countries, sharing the French language (around 40% of the Lebanese population speaks French), literature, cinema ...
France is the country in Europe where the Lebanese community is the largest (around 250,000 people), far behind Brazil or the USA however.

Euromed Postal 2018 stamp on cover from Lebanon

Since 2014, the Lebanese Post has been contributing to the "Euromed Postal" stamp issues and has put into circulation, on July 9, 2018, a new stamp including the Euromed Postal's logo (a stylized hawk), dedicated to the theme of the "Houses in the Mediterranean" this year.
After a common design in 2014, the "boats of the Mediterranean" in 2015, the "fish of the Mediterranean" in 2016 and the "trees in the Mediterranean" in 2017, the participating postal administrations issued this year different stamps dedicated to characteristic habitat types around the Mediterranean Sea.
As a reminder, July 9th evokes the first International Convention of the Mediterranean Post signed in Marseille, France on July 9, 2007. Since that date, the Postal Union for the Mediterranean (PUMed), a restricted union of the UPU, was created on March 11, 2011 and currently includes 18 postal operators of Mediterranean countries as well as Portugal and Mauritania.

A big thank you Joe for this nice letter sent on July 28, 2018 from the city of Jbeil, famous for its ancient site of Byblos (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), franked with this new Euromed Postal stamp (2250 LBP) on the right.
That stamp (print run: 50,000), designed by Mirna Kalfayan, is dedicated to the Beiteddine Palace, built in the Chouf region by the Emir of Mount Lebanon Bashir Shihab II between 1788 and 1818. A historical monument since 1934, this building is became the summer residence of the President of the Republic after independence in 1943.
An important art festival (music, song, dance) has been organized there since 1984.
The other stamp above (1000 LBP, print run: 50,000), issued on November 21, 2012 with the mention "The Nation, The Independence", pays tribute to Adel Osseiran (1905-1998), a Lebanese politician who played a important role during the independence crisis in 1943. He then held important offices, president of parliament between 1953 and 1959 and minister on many occasions between 1969 and 1989.

1er courrier du Liban !

My first cover from Lebanon !

I'm very happy to share with you today this very first letter coming from Lebanon, mailed on April 1, 2011 on the post office of the the village of Beit Mery, located on a hill overlooking the capital, Beirut !
Thank you very much Daniela :-)
To note the two massive rectangular cancellations (upside down !) including the logo of the LibanPost (envelope).

It was unfortunately very difficult for me to find interesting details about the four stamps used above...
They are all part of a definitive series of 10 stamps, issued on August 2, 2010, devoted to different themes : the old typical houses in Lebanon (the three stamps above on the left), civil defense (fire fighters to the right here) but also the preservation of environment, crafts (soap production), the army and the fight against tobacco and drugs...
I'd be curious to know exactly where the three houses above could well be located in Lebanon ??
