Le 8 mai 1986, le Prix international Charlemagne d'Aix-la-Chapelle était décerné non pas à une seule personnalité, mais au peuple luxembourgeois tout entier.
Par cette décision, le Directoire du Prix Charlemagne rendait hommage à la contribution exceptionnelle du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg à l'unité européenne, portée par un large élan social sur plusieurs générations.
Comptant parmi les plus petits pays d'Europe, le Luxembourg a dès le début joué en effet un rôle majeur dans le processus d'intégration, notamment en tant que membre fondateur des Communautés européennes et, par la suite, haut lieu des institutions européennes.
L'étroite imbrication entre identité nationale et européenne a marqué la politique et l'économie de ce pays multiculturel situé au cœur de l'Europe, mais aussi le quotidien de sa population.
Le prix Charlemagne, remis à l'époque au Grand-Duc Jean au nom de tous les luxembourgeois, reconnaissait ainsi l'engagement du pays mais aussi de tout un peuple en faveur d'une Europe unie.  
On May 8, 1986, the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen was awarded not to a single individual, but to the entire people of Luxembourg.
With this decision, the Charlemagne Prize Board of Directors paid tribute to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg's exceptional contribution to European unity—a contribution driven by broad-based social momentum spanning several generations.
As one of Europe's smallest nations, Luxembourg indeed played a major role in the integration process from the very beginning, notably as a founding member of the European Communities and, subsequently, as a key hub for European institutions.
The close intertwining of national and European identities has shaped the politics and economy of this multicultural country situated at the heart of Europe, as well as the daily lives of its people.
The Charlemagne Prize—presented at the time to Grand Duke Jean on behalf of all Luxembourgers—thus recognized the commitment of both the country and its people to a united Europe.  

Créé en 1950, le Prix international Charlemagne d'Aix-la-Chapelle est décerné chaque année à des personnalités ou des institutions qui se sont particulièrement distinguées dans la promotion de l'unité européenne et de la coopération entre les peuples de l'Europe.
Il est considéré comme l'une des distinctions les plus importantes récompensant l'engagement et l'entente au niveau européen.
Le 5 mai 2026, la poste luxembourgeoise a mis en circulation un bloc-feuillet (1,70€, tirage : 20000) consacré au 40ème anniversaire de la remise du Prix international Charlemagne au peuple luxembourgeois.
Conçu par Annick Kieffer, ce bloc-feuillet figure sur le FDC officiel ci-dessus avec TAD de Luxembourg.
Le timbre représente la médaille remise en 1986, avec la mention en allemand "Le peuple luxembourgeois : un modèle et un témoignage de persévérance sur la voie de l'unité européenne", le ruban jaune formant le nombre "40".
La marge a été conçue à partir d'une photographie de l'époque montrant la remise du Prix Charlemagne au Grand-Duc Jean par le bourgmestre d'Aix-la-Chapelle, Kurt Malangré. 
Deux autres personnalités luxembourgeoises ont également reçu ce prix prestigieux : Joseph Bech en 1960 et Jean-Claude Juncker en 2006.
Established in 1950, the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen is awarded annually to individuals or institutions that have made exceptional contributions to promoting European unity and cooperation among the peoples of Europe.
It is considered one of the most significant awards recognizing commitment to and understanding within Europe.
On May 5, 2026, the Luxembourg Post issued a miniature sheet (€1.70, print run: 20,000) commemorating the 40th anniversary of the awarding of the International Charlemagne Prize to the people of Luxembourg.
Designed by Annick Kieffer, this miniature sheet is present on the official First Day Cover above, with postmarks from Luxembourg.
The stamp depicts the medal awarded in 1986, bearing the German inscription "The people of Luxembourg: a model and a testament to perseverance on the path to European unity", with the yellow ribbon forming the number "40".
The margin design is based on a period photograph showing the Charlemagne Prize being presented to Grand Duke Jean by the Mayor of Aachen, Kurt Malangré.
Two other prominent Luxembourgers have also received this prestigious Prize: Joseph Bech in 1960 and Jean-Claude Juncker in 2006.  

EUROPA 2026 (70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps) stamp set on FDC from Luxembourg

Série EUROPA 2026 (70ème anniversaire des timbres EUROPA) sur FDC du Luxembourg 

L'année 2026 marque le 70ème anniversaire des timbres EUROPA, une initiative philatélique lancée pour renforcer les relations entre les pays européens et promouvoir une paix et une unité durables.
Émis pour la première fois en 1956 par six nations – la Belgique, la France, l'Allemagne, l'Italie, le Luxembourg et les Pays-Bas, membres fondateurs de l'Union européenne – ce programme s'est étendu progressivement à 53 organisations postales participantes.
L'an dernier, le groupe de travail Timbres et Philatélie de PostEurop a organisé un concours interne pour choisir un motif commun sur le thème "70ème anniversaire du timbre EUROPA : Unis par...".
Guidés par des valeurs partagées telles que la communication, l'innovation, la coopération et des racines communes, les membres ont soumis 15 propositions créatives, chacune présentant une vision unique. 
Suite au vote de 50 organisations postales, ce concours a été remporté par la poste finlandaise (Posti), devant la poste de Bosnie-Herzégovine (Sarajevo) et la poste luxembourgeoise.
C'est donc le projet de l'artiste et graphiste Klaus Welp qui figure sur les timbres EUROPA émis en 2026. 
The year 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps, a philatelic initiative launched to strengthen relations between European countries and promote lasting peace and unity.
First issued in 1956 by six nations – Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, founding members of the European Union – this program has gradually expanded to include 53 participating postal organizations.
Last year, PostEurop's Stamps and Philately Working Group organized an internal competition to choose a common design on the theme "70th Anniversary of the EUROPA Stamp: United by...".
Guided by shared values ​​such as communication, innovation, cooperation, and common roots, the members submitted 15 creative proposals, each presenting a unique vision.
Following a vote by 50 postal organizations, the Finnish Post (Posti) won the competition, ahead of the Post of Bosnia & Herzegovina (Sarajevo) and the Post of Luxembourg.
The design by artist and graphic designer Klaus Welp will therefore be featured on the EUROPA stamps issued in 2026.

Le 5 mai 2026, la poste du Luxembourg a mis en circulation une série (3 timbres, tirage : 30000 chacun, imprimés en Belgique par bpost) consacrée à ce thème du 70ème anniversaire des timbres EUROPA, dont deux incluant le logo EUROPA, celui reproduisant le projet de Klaus Welp (1,70€) et celui reproduisant le projet luxembourgeois pour ce concours (1,20€).
Ces 3 timbres figurent sur le FDC officiel ci-dessus avec TAD de Luxembourg. 
Le timbre EUROPA au centre, conçu par Jill Els, représente une colombe moderne qui symbolise à la fois la paix et la correspondance traditionnelle. A noter que seuls les timbres reproduisant les différents projets des postes participantes à ce concours de PostEurop peuvent inclure le logo EUROPA.
Le 3ème timbre à gauche (1,20€), conçu par Marc Wilmes (Prix du jury au Luxembourg), intègre et combine de manière créative les 5 différents alphabets utilisés en Europe : latin, cyrillique, grec, arménien et géorgien.
Chaque alphabet reflète des siècles d'histoire, de culture et d'évolution linguistique, façonnant la manière dont les peuples lisent, écrivent et préservent leur patrimoine.
Ces 2 derniers timbres comportent le thème de cette émission (en anglais !) ainsi que la mention "Unis dans la diversité", qui est aussi la devise de l'Union européenne depuis 2000. 
On May 5, 2026, the Luxembourg Post put into circulation a set of three stamps (print run: 30,000 each, printed in Belgium by bpost) dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps. Two of these stamps include the EUROPA logo: one reproducing Klaus Welp's design (€1.70) and the other reproducing the Luxembourg design for this competition (€1.20).
These three stamps are featured on the official First Day Cover above, with cancellations from Luxembourg.
The EUROPA stamp in the center, designed by Jill Els, depicts a modern dove that symbolises both the tradition of written correspondence and the idea of peace. It should be noted that only stamps reproducing the designs of the participating postal administrations in this PostEurop competition are permitted to include the EUROPA logo.
The third stamp from the left (€1.20), designed by Marc Wilmes (Jury's Prize in Luxembourg), creatively integrates and combines the five different alphabets used in Europe: Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, Armenian, and Georgian.
Each alphabet reflects centuries of history, culture, and linguistic evolution, shaping how people read, write, and preserve their heritage.
These last two stamps feature the theme of this issue (in English!) as well as the mention "United in Diversity", which has also been the motto of the European Union since 2000.  

"Pontifical Institute for Christian Archaeology - 100 years" joint stamp with Vatican, on cover from Luxembourg

Timbre "100 ans de l'Institut pontifical d'archéologie chrétienne", commun avec le Vatican, sur lettre du Luxembourg 

Le 11 décembre 1925, le Pontificio Istituto di Archeologia Cristiana (Institut pontifical d'archéologie chrétienne - PIAC) a été fondé à Rome sur demande du pape Pie XI, formulé dans la lettre (Motu Proprio) "I primitivi cemeteri".
Dès le début, il était prévu qu'il travaille en étroite collaboration avec deux autres instituts de recherche : l'Académie pontificale romaine d'Archéologie (compétente pour l'archéologie classique) et la Commission pontificale d'Archéologie sacrée (compétente pour la gestion des catacombes de Rome).
Depuis 1927, le siège du PIAC se trouve au cœur de Rome, Via Napoleone III. 
Le PIAC est étroitement lié au Luxembourg : c'est en effet le prêtre et scientifique luxembourgeois Johann Peter Kirsch (1861-1941) qui a été chargé de fonder l'Institut en 1925. 
Le 25 novembre 2025, les administrations postales du Luxembourg et de la Cité du Vatican ont mis en circulation un timbre commun consacré au 100ème anniversaire de la fondation de cet Institut pontifical d'archéologie chrétienne. 
On December 11, 1925, the Pontifical Institute for Christian Archaeology (PIAC) was founded in Rome at the request of Pope Pius XI, as stated in the Motu Proprio "I primitivi cemeteri".
From the very beginning, the PIAC was intended to work closely with two other research institutions: the Pontificia Accademia Romana di Archeologia (responsible for traditional archaeology) and the Pontificia Commissione di Archeologia Sacra (responsible for managing the catacombs of Rome).
Since 1927, the head office of the PIAC has been located in Via Napoleone III in the centre of Rome.
The PIAC has close ties to Luxembourg: it was the Luxembourgish priest and scientist Johann Peter Kirsch (1861-1941) who was tasked with founding the Institute in 1925.
On November 25, 2025, the postal administrations of Luxembourg and Vatican City issued a joint stamp commemorating the 100th anniversary of the founding of this Pontifical Institute for Christian Archaeology.

Ce timbre représente un portrait de Johann Peter Kirsch, avec l'emblème de l'Institut derrière lui - représentant le Christ en "Bon Pasteur" dans l'iconographie paléochrétienne - et le siège historique à Rome.
Johann Peter Kirsch s'était rendu à Rome en 1884 en tant que jeune prêtre pour y poursuivre des études. Il s'y est rapidement forgé une excellente réputation, tissant un réseau international tant dans les milieux ecclésiastiques que scientifiques. En 1890, il est devenu professeur de patrologie et d'archéologie chrétienne à la toute nouvelle université de Fribourg, en Suisse, une expérience qui s'est avérée inestimable pour la création du futur PIAC.
Institut d'enseignement et de recherche, le PIAC forme encore aujourd'hui chaque année de nombreux étudiants et doctorants dans les différents domaines de l'archéologie chrétienne. L'enseignement n'est toutefois pas sa seule mission, car l'institut participe également à des fouilles internationales et apporte une contribution déterminante à leur organisation.

This stamp features a portrait of Johann Peter Kirsch, with the emblem of the Institute behind him - featuring the image of Christ as the "Good Shepherd" in early Christian iconography - and the historic headquarters in Rome.
Johann Peter Kirsch moved to Rome in 1884 as a young priest to study. There he swiftly earned an exceptional reputation and created an international network in both ecclesiastical and academic circles. In 1890, he became professor of patristics and Christian archaeology at the newly founded University of Fribourg in Switzerland. This experience was invaluable to the later founding of the PIAC.
Today, the PIAC is still a teaching and research institution which educates numerous undergraduate and PhD students every year in various branches of Christian archaeology. This is not solely about teaching, as the institute is also involved in international excavations and plays a key role in organising them.  

"Orchids 2025" charirty stamp set on cover from Luxembourg

Le 25 novembre 2025, la poste du Luxembourg a mis en circulation la 4ème et dernière partie (4 timbres) d'une série de bienfaisance illustrant différentes espèces d'orchidées locales parmi les plus remarquables.
Conçus à partir de photographies de Marianne Majerus, ces 4 timbres (tirage : 75000), imprimés chacun en feuillet de 10 timbres, ont été utilisés sur la lettre ci-dessous envoyée le 18 décembre 2025 depuis Luxembourg, la capitale. 
A noter cet élégant TAD spécial illustré "Joyeux Noël" incluant différentes décorations d'arbres de Noël. 
On November 25, 2025, the Luxembourg Post issued the fourth and final part (four stamps) of a charity stamp set illustrating some of the most notable indigenous orchids in Luxembourg.
Designed using photographs by Marianne Majerus, these four stamps (print run: 75,000), each printed in sheetlets of ten, have been used on the cover below, sent on December 18, 2025, from Luxembourg, the capital.
To note this elegant special "Merry Christmas" ("Joyeux Noël") illustrated postmark, which includes various Christmas tree decorations. 

L'épipactis à larges feuilles (Epipactis helleborine - 2,40€ + 0,30€) est l'espèce d'épipactis la plus fréquente au Luxembourg et colonise de préférence les forêts et leurs lisières.
Également présente en forêt, la grande listère (Neottia ovata - 2,40€ + 0,15€) se caractérise par ses deux grandes feuilles remarquables, presque opposées, qui constituent un signe distinctif évident. En revanche, l'orchis tacheté (Dactylorhiza maculata - 1,70€ + 0,15€) pousse dans des habitats bien différents : présente dans les prairies humides et les pelouses calcaires, l'espèce est connue pour sa capacité de croisement avec des espèces de Dactylorhiza très proches afin de donner naissance à des hybrides.
Sur les pelouses sèches et ensoleillées, l'épipactis pourpre noirâtre (Epipactis atrorubens - 1,20€ + 0,10€) exerce un attrait particulier. Son délicat parfum de vanille attire de nombreux pollinisateurs et en fait un véritable trésor botanique.
The broad-leaved helleborine (Epipactis helleborine - €2.40 + €0.30), the commonest type of helleborine in Luxembourg, can be found in woods and on the edge of woodlands.
The common twayblade (Neottia ovata - €2.40 + €0.15), whose name is derived from the two impressively large leaves that are almost opposite each other and offer a sure means of recognition, can also be found in wooded areas. The heath spotted-orchid (Dactylorhiza maculata - €1.70 + €0.15) prefers a very different environment: it grows in marshes and grasslands and is known for its ability to cross-pollinate with other closely related orchids in the dactylorhiza genus to create hybrids.
In contrast, the dark-red helleborine (Epipactis atrorubens - €1.20 + €0.10) displays its particular attractions in dry and sunny grassy areas. Its delicate vanilla perfume attracts many pollinators and makes it a real botanical treasure.  

"Christmas 2025" stamp set and "Merry Christmas" postmark on cover from Luxembourg

Série "Noël 2025" et TAD "Joyeux Noël" sur lettre du Luxembourg 

Le 25 novembre 2025, la poste du Luxembourg a mis en circulation, comme de coutume, sa série "Noël 2025" (2 timbres), illustrant cette année l'atmosphère particulière des marchés de Noël aux nombreuses traditions.
Cette série à été conçue par l'artiste britannique Ben Carter (qui vit au Luxembourg), connu pour son style unique alliant langage visuel clair marqué par des éléments architecturaux et scènes reflétant une atmosphère particulière, ce qui se traduit par une ambiance festive restant toutefois élégante et équilibrée. 
Ces 2 timbres de bienfaisance (tirage : 110004), imprimés en France par Cartor Security Printing avec un vernis spécial "Glow in the dark", ont été utilisés sur la lettre ci-dessous envoyée le 18 décembre 2025 depuis Luxembourg, la capitale. A noter cet élégant TAD spécial illustré "Joyeux Noël" incluant différentes décorations d'arbres de Noël.
On November 25, 2025, the Luxembourg Post put into circulation, as usual, its "Christmas 2025" series (two stamps). This year's series illustrates the unique atmosphere of Christmas markets and their many traditions.
This stamp set was designed by British artist Ben Carter (who lives in Luxembourg), known for his distinctive style that combines a clear visual language marked by architectural elements and scenes reflecting a particular atmosphere, resulting in a festive yet elegant and balanced ambiance.
These two charity stamps (print run: 110,004), printed in France by Cartor Security Printing with a special "glow-in-the-dark" varnish, have been used on the cover below, sent on December 18, 2025, from Luxembourg City. To note this elegant special "Merry Christmas" ("Joyeux Noël") illustrated postmark, which includes various Christmas tree decorations.  

Le timbre à gauche (1,20€ + 0,10€) représente la grande roue de Luxembourg-ville, devenue l'emblème rayonnant du marché "Winterlights" pendant la période de l'Avent. En arrière-plan, la Gëlle Fra (Monument du souvenir) et la cathédrale Notre-Dame, symboles marquants de la capitale, se dressent dans un décor hivernal de Noël.
L'autre timbre (1,70€ + 0,15€) illustre la pyramide de Noël typique, qui symbolise la joie de l'Avent et la tradition, dans la ville d'Esch-sur-Alzette. Là encore, un bâtiment familier de la ville, la maison communale, est plongé dans une ambiance festive qui met en valeur le charme particulier de la période précédant Noël. 
The stamp on the left (€1.20 + €0.10) depicts the Ferris wheel in Luxembourg City, which has become the radiant emblem of the "Winterlights" market during Advent. In the background, the Gëlle Fra (Monument of Remembrance) and Notre-Dame Cathedral, prominent symbols of the capital, stand out in a wintery Christmas scene.
The other stamp (€1.70 + €0.15) illustrates the typical Christmas pyramid, which symbolizes the joy of Advent and tradition, in the city of Esch-sur-Alzette. Here again, one of the city's familiar buildings, the city hall, is depicted in a festive manner, highlighting the special charm of the weeks in the runup to Christmas.

Sepac 2025 (Architecture) stamp on FDC from Luxembourg

Timbre Sepac 2025 (Architecture) sur FDC du Luxembourg 

Pour rappel, la Small European Postal Administration Cooperation (SEPAC) est une association de petites administrations postales européennes (12 actuellement), créée en 1999, afin de discuter de diverses questions philatéliques et postales spécifiques à ces petites structures.
Depuis 2007 (thème des paysages), des timbres sur un thème commun sont émis par certains membres (10 en 2025, tous sauf l'île de Man et la Cité du Vatican) et une élection du plus beau timbre Sepac est organisée depuis 2010.
Le Grand-Duché de Luxembourg participe à ces émissions Sepac depuis 2009 et a émis, le 19 septembre 2025, son 15ème timbre Sepac, illustrant le thème de l'histoire architecturale. 
Ce timbre (1,70€, tirage : 30000), conçu par Reza Kianpour, consacré à l'Hôtel des Postes de Luxembourg, figure sur le FDC officiel ci-dessous.
Ce timbre montre la façade de cet édifice remarquable à travers une des fenêtres du rez-de-chaussée.
As a reminder, the Small European Postal Administration Cooperation (SEPAC) is an association of small European postal administrations (12 currently), created in 1999, in order to discuss various philatelic and postal issues specific to these small structures.
Since 2007 (theme : landscapes), stamps having a common theme are issued by some members (10 in 2025, all except the Isle of Man and Vatican City) and an election for the most beautiful Sepac stamp has been organized for the first time in 2010.
The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has participated in these Sepac issues since 2009 and issued its 15th Sepac stamp on September 19, 2025, illustrating the theme of architectural history.
This stamp (€1.70, print run: 30,000), designed by Reza Kianpour and dedicated to the Luxembourg's Hôtel des Postes, is present on the official first day cover below. 
This stamp shows the facade of this remarkable building through one of the ground floor windows.  

L'Hôtel des Postes a été utilisé pendant plus de 100 ans comme siège central de la poste luxembourgeoise, jusqu'en 2017. Il fait actuellement l'objet de travaux de réhabilitation en vue de sa reconversion en hôtel.
Après le départ de la garnison prussienne, le bureau de poste s'installa d'abord, à partir de 1869, dans les anciennes casernes beim Piquet, avant de s'y retrouver rapidement à l'étroit. Entre 1908 et 1910, un nouveau bâtiment postal situé à la Rue Aldringen, l'actuel Hôtel des Postes, a donc été construit selon les plans de l'architecte Sosthène Weis.
Il s'est rapidement érigé en tant que symbole de la ville de Luxembourg et a accueilli le bureau de poste principal jusqu'en 2017.
L'Hôtel des Postes est un exemple remarquable du style néo-Renaissance français au Grand-Duché, associant technologies de construction modernes et revêtement en pierres traditionnelles provenant de carrières luxembourgeoises. La façade majestueuse mais sobre, aux proportions harmonieuses, est décorée d'ornements plastiques et d'éléments figuratifs, dont la conception a été confiée aux célèbres sculpteurs luxembourgeois Pierre Federspiel, Jean Mich, Claus Cito et Jean-Baptiste Wercollier.
Depuis 2018, l'Hôtel des Postes est classé monument national et se situe dans un secteur protégé UNESCO. Les travaux de réhabilitation actuellement en cours visent à sublimer la valeur artistique et architecturale du bâtiment. 
The Hôtel des Postes served as the head office of POST Luxembourg for over a hundred years - until 2017 - and is currently being converted into a hotel.
After the Prussian garrison left the city, the post office initially moved into their former barracks at beim Piquet in 1869. However, the building soon proved inadequate for its purpose. A new post office - today's Hôtel des Postes - was therefore erected between 1908 and 1910, based on the plans of architect Sosthène Weis.
Located on a newly chosen site on Rue Aldringen, the building soon became one of the city's landmarks and housed Luxembourg's main post office until 2017.
The Hôtel des Postes is an exceptional example of French Neo-Renaissance architecture in Luxembourg. It combines modern construction technology with traditional stone facing, with stone from Luxembourg quarries used for the visible parts of the building. With its harmonious proportions, the majestic yet unpretentious facade is decorated with sculptural ornaments and figurative elements. Renowned Luxembourg sculptors Pierre Federspiel, Jean Mich, Claus Cito and Jean-Baptiste Wercollier were commissioned to design them.
The Hôtel des Postes has been a listed building since 2018 and is located in an area protected by UNESCO. The current renovation highlights the artistic and architectural qualities of the building.

Après 25 ans de règne, le Grand-Duc Henri a abdiqué le 3 octobre 2025, transmettant le flambeau à son fils ainé, Guillaume (né en 1981), devenant le 10ème Grand-Duc de Luxembourg (depuis 1815), sous le nom de Guillaume V.
À l'aube de ses 44 ans, le Grand-Duc Guillaume a prêté serment devant la Chambre des députés, devenant ainsi le nouveau chef d'État du Luxembourg. 
Depuis plus de 20 ans, le Grand-Duc Guillaume s'est préparé avec sérieux et engagement à cette responsabilité. En tant que Grand-Duc Héritier, puis Lieutenant-Représentant du Grand-Duc, il a multiplié les missions économiques à travers le monde, renforçant la visibilité du Luxembourg et tissant des liens précieux pour l'avenir du pays.
Mais au-delà de ses fonctions officielles, le Grand-Duc Guillaume incarne aussi des valeurs de proximité et d'humanité. Guidé dès son plus jeune âge par l'amour de la nature et le sens du collectif, il s'est engagé dans le scoutisme, devenant en 2019 chef scout du Luxembourg.
En 2012, le Grand-Duc Guillaume a épousé la Comtesse Stéphanie de Lannoy, dans un moment de grande émotion partagé par tout le pays. Ensemble, ils forment un couple uni et engagé, parents de deux jeunes princes, Charles et François. Le nouveau couple grand-ducal s'investit activement dans la vie culturelle, sociale et artisanale du Luxembourg.

On the eve of his 44th birthday, Grand Duke Guillaume took the oath before the Chamber of Deputies, thus becoming Luxembourg's new Head of State. 
For more than 20 years, Grand Duke Guillaume has prepared for this responsibility with seriousness and commitment. As Hereditary Grand Duke and later as the Grand Duke's ‘Lieutenant-Représentant’, he carried out numerous economic missions around the world, enhancing Luxembourg's visibility and forging valuable connections for the future.
But beyond his official duties, Grand Duke Guillaume also embodies values of closeness and humanity. Guided from a young age by a love of nature and a sense of community, he became involved in scouting, and in 2019 was appointed Chief Scout of Luxembourg.
In 2012, Grand Duke Guillaume married Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy, in a deeply emotional moment shared by the entire country. Together, they form a united and committed couple, parents to two young princes, Charles and François. The new Grand Ducal couple is actively involved in Luxembourg's cultural, social, and artisanal life.  

En coopération avec Design Friends asbl, POST Philately a organisé un concours pour la conception d'un bloc-feuillet et d'un timbre à l'occasion de ce début de règne du Grand-Duc Guillaume. Grâce à leurs propositions originales et de grande qualité, Jill Els et Lea Schroeder ont su convaincre le jury.
Ce bloc-feuillet (2,40€, tirage : 30000) et ce timbre (1,20€, tirage : 50400), émis le 3 octobre 2025, ont été utilisés sur la lettre ci-dessus envoyée le 13 octobre 2025 depuis Capellen. Merci beaucoup Dimitri !
Jill Els a imaginé ce bloc-feuillet comme un récit symbolique de l'avènement du Grand-Duc Guillaume. Le parchemin stylisé retrace les étapes marquantes de son parcours : sa famille, son lien avec la nature, ses responsabilités internationales et son engagement scout, représenté par le nœud comme signe de solidarité. La structure en cercles 5x5 code la date du 3 octobre 2025 et traduit une orientation vers l'avenir et l'innovation. La carte du Luxembourg, les résidences grand-ducales et les motifs inspires des jardins et forêts rappellent son ancrage profond dans le pays, tout en affirmant les valeurs de durabilité et d'inclusion.
Lea Schroeder à conçu le timbre (couple grand-ducal et couleurs du drapeau national) dans un feuillet (9 timbres) avec marges illustrées, conçu comme un tableau narratif, illustrant la transmission d'une dynastie en résonance avec les valeurs fondamentales du Luxembourg : continuité, unité et proximité. Autour du portrait du Grand-Duc et de la Grande-Duchesse se déploient des symboles forts : le Palais grand-ducal, la Gëlle Fra (Monument du souvenir), la rose, le lion rouge, le drapeau luxembourgeois et les étoiles européennes - exprimant à la fois l'attachement aux racines nationales et l'ouverture confiante vers l'avenir.

Jill Els conceived this souvenir sheet as a symbolic narrative of Grand Duke Guillaume's accession. The stylized parchment retraces the key stages of his life: his family, his connection with nature, his international responsibilities, and his involvement in scouting, represented by the knot as a symbol of solidarity. The 5x5 circular structure encodes the date October 3, 2025, and reflects a forward-looking and innovative orientation. The map of Luxembourg, the Grand Ducal residences, and motifs inspired by gardens and forests recall its deep roots in the country, while affirming the values ​​of sustainability and inclusion.
Lea Schroeder designed the stamp (featuring the Grand Ducal couple and the colors of the national flag) in a sheet (9 stamps) with illustrated margins, conceived as a narrative tableau, illustrating the transmission of a dynasty in resonance with Luxembourg's fundamental values: continuity, unity, and closeness. Around the portrait of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess unfold powerful symbols: the Grand Ducal Palace, the Gëlle Fra (Monument of Remembrance), the rose, the red lion, the Luxembourg flag, and the European stars - expressing both attachment to national roots and a confident openness to the future.

Le timbre brodé "Dove of Peace" ("Colombe de la Paix") s'inscrit dans le cadre d'une initiative internationale qui vise à envoyer un signal fort en faveur de la paix et de la cohésion.
La poste du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg fait partie de la dizaine d'administrations postales internationales (Åland, Arménie, Autriche, Barbade, Chypre, Groenland, îles Féroé, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Suisse) qui ont uni leurs forces pour concevoir un timbre exceptionnel, finement brodé avec du fil de polyester recyclé, en collaboration avec les Nations Unies (les 3 bureaux de New-York, Genève et Vienne), l'Union postale universelle (UPU) et le spécialiste autrichien de la broderie Hämmerle & Vogel GmbH & Co KG. 
We all wish to live in peace and yet we are often surrounded by conflict, in ourselves and our communities, or at the global level.
An international initiative is now sending a specific signal with the embroidered "Dove of Peace" stamp, to strengthen awareness of peace and solidarity. 
The Post of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is one of ten international postal administrations (Åland, Armenia, Austria, Barbados, Cyprus, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Switzerland) that have joined forces to design an exceptional stamp, finely embroidered with recycled polyester yarn, in collaboration with the United Nations (the three offices in New York, Geneva and Vienna), the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and the Austrian embroidery manufacturer Hämmerle & Vogel GmbH & Co KG. 

La version luxembourgeoise de ce timbre (tarif lettre recommandée "R" - 5,50€, tirage : 30000) figure sur le FDC officiel ci-dessus avec TAD de Luxembourg, la capitale, du 19 septembre 2025.
La colombe, symbole universel de paix, d'espoir et de compréhension, a été délibérément choisie en tant que motif central pour transmettre un message clair par-delà les frontières.
Plus qu'un simple objet de collection en édition limitée, ce timbre se veut également un rappel symbolique : la paix ne va pas de soi, elle exige un effort quotidien et un engagement personnel comparables à la patience et au soin nécessaires à la conception de chaque timbre brodé.
Le timbre "Dove of Peace" envoie un message simple mais puissant, fédérateur au-delà des frontières : la paix commence à petite échelle, avec chaque individu.

The dove, a universal symbol of peace, hope, and understanding, was deliberately chosen as the central motif to convey a clear message across borders.
More than just a limited-edition collectible, this stamp is also intended as a symbolic reminder: peace is not self-evident; it requires daily effort and personal commitment comparable to the patience and care required to design each embroidered stamp.
The "Dove of Peace" stamp sends a simple yet powerful, unifying message across borders: peace begins with the small gestures made by each of us.

Après Dubaï en 2021-2022, la ville japonaise d'Osaka organise cette année, du 13 avril au 13 octobre 2025, l'exposition universelle, sur l'île artificielle de Yumeshima (environ 155 hectares).
Cette expo rassemble 160 pays autour du thème "Concevoir la société du futur, imaginer notre vie de demain".
Ce thème se décline sous trois axes : sauver des vies, inspirer des vies et connecter des vies. C'est sous ce dernier angle que le Grand-Duché de Luxembourg présente son pavillon dont le thème est "Doki Doki - The Luxembourg Heartbeat" ("Doki Doki - Le battement de coeur luxembourgeois").
Au Japon, "Doki Doki" est l'expression japonaise pour le son d'un cœur qui bat avec excitation et une anticipation joyeuse.
Ce leitmotiv stimulant constitue le fil rouge de l'expérience du visiteur à travers ce pavillon, reflétant la diversité et le multiculturalisme de la société luxembourgeoise.
Following Dubai in 2021-2022, the Japanese city of Osaka is hosting the World Expo 2025 this year, from April 13 to October 13, 2025, on the artificial island of Yumeshima (approximately 155 hectares).

Sa structure est une construction modulaire en acier surmontée d'un toit en membrane tendue, le tout conçu selon le principe "designed for disassembly", c'est-à-dire en utilisant le moins de matériaux possible, et de manière à ce que les différents éléments de la structure puissent être réutilisés facilement.
Conçu par le bureau d'architectes luxembourgeois STDM, ce pavillon est représenté sur le timbre (2,40€, tirage : 30000, conception : Arnaud De Meyer) émis le 6 mai 2025, présent sur le FDC officiel ci-dessus, avec TAD de Luxembourg.
With its circular architectural design and captivating scenography that embodies the "Doki Doki" feeling, the Luxembourg pavilion offers a captivating experience. Its structure is a modular steel construction topped with a tensile membrane roof, all designed according to the "designed for disassembly" principle, meaning it uses as few materials as possible and ensures that the various structural elements can be easily reused. 
Designed by the Luxembourg architectural firm STDM, this pavilion is featured on the stamp (€2.40, print run: 30,000, design: Arnaud De Meyer) issued on May 6, 2025, featured on the official FDC above, with cancellations from Luxembourg.  

EUROPA 2025 (National Archaeological Discoveries) stamp set on FDC from Luxembourg

Série EUROPA 2025 (Découvertes archéologiques nationales) sur FDC du Luxembourg 

Le thème choisi par l'association PostEurop pour les timbres EUROPA 2025 est intitulé "Découvertes archéologiques nationales".
Le 6 mai 2025, la poste du Luxembourg a mis en circulation une très jolie série (2 timbres) illustrant ce thème, en collaboration avec l'Institut National de Recherches Archéologiques (INRA).
Ces 2 timbres (conception : Agence Créa Post Luxembourg, tirage : 30000 chacun), imprimés en feuillet de 10 timbres, figurent sur le FDC officiel ci-dessous, avec TAD de Luxembourg.
J'aime beaucoup ce TAD Premier Jour conçu à partir d'une tête de statue antique de femme.
Le timbre à gauche ("L50g" pour un envoi domestique jusqu'à 50g, 1,20€ actuellement) est consacré au théâtre gallo-romain de Dalheim/Ricciacum, situé dans le sud-est du Grand-Duché du Luxembourg.
The theme chosen by the PostEurop association for the EUROPA 2025 stamps is entitled "National Archaeological Discoveries".
On May 6, 2025, the Luxembourg Post released a very attractive set (two stamps) illustrating this theme, in collaboration with the National Institute of Archaeological Research (INRA).

I really love this First Day postmark designed from the head of an antique female statue.
The stamp on the left ("L50g" for domestic mail up to 50g, currently €1.20) is dedicated to the Gallo-Roman theater of Dalheim/Ricciacum, located in the southeast of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.  

Découvert par hasard en 1985, ce théâtre remarquablement bien conservé constitue l'un des sites les plus importants de l'époque romaine au Luxembourg, tant sur le plan archéologique que touristique. Construit au début du 2ème siècle, il pouvait accueillir jusqu'à 3000 personnes et a été le centre culturel, religieux et administratif de toute une région pendant plus de deux siècles. 
L'autre timbre ("L50g" pour un envoi en Europe jusqu'à 50g, 1,70€ actuellement) est consacré à la villa gallo-romaine de Schieren (centre du pays). Avec ses 13 dépendances connues, un complexe thermal avec des bassins d'eau chauffés et un bâtiment principal impressionnant, cette villa (fouillée depuis 2013) couvre une superficie de plus de 7 hectares. Le bâtiment principal disposait d'une colonnade ouverte et l'intérieur était décoré de peintures murales colorées présentant des motifs mythologiques, figuratifs et géométriques. Des vestiges d'un sol en mosaïque multicolore ont par ailleurs été découverts. 
Discovered by chance in 1985, this theatre is one of the most important Roman sites in Luxembourg, both from an archaeological and a tourism perspective, thanks to its good state of preservation. Built at the beginning of the 2nd century, the theatre was able to seat up to 3,000 people and served as the cultural, religious and administrative centre of an entire region for over two centuries.
The other stamp ("L50g" for shipping within Europe up to 50g, currently €1.70) is dedicated to the Gallo-Roman villa of Schieren (central Luxembourg). With 13 known outbuildings, a thermal bath complex with heated pools, and a typical main building, this villa (excavated since 2013) covers an area of over seven hectares. The main building had an open colonnade, and its interior was decorated with colourful murals featuring mythological, figurative and geometric designs. The remains of a multicoloured mosaic floor were also found.

Pour rappel, le Conseil de l'Europe a été fondé le 5 mai 1949 par le traité de Londres et est composé aujourd'hui de représentants de 46 pays européens (tous sauf le Belarus et la Russie) et a pour objectif la défense de la démocratie, des droits de l'homme, de l'identité et de la diversité culturelle de l'Europe, la lutte contre les discriminations.
Le Palais de l'Europe à Strasbourg, conçu par l'architecte français Henry Bernard et inauguré en 1977, est le bâtiment principal du Conseil de l'Europe. 
Le suisse Alain Berset et le secrétaire général actuel (depuis septembre 2024) du Conseil de l'Europe, élu par l'Assemblée parlementaire du Conseil de l'Europe sur recommandation du Comité des Ministres, pour une période de cinq ans.
La présidence du Comité des Ministres est assurée pour une durée de six mois à tour de rôle par les représentants des États membres dans l'ordre alphabétique anglais.

The Palais de l'Europe in Strasbourg, designed by French architect Henry Bernard and inaugurated in 1977, is the main building of the Council of Europe.
Alain Berset, a Swiss national, is the current Secretary General (since September 2024) of the Council of Europe. He is elected by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on the recommendation of the Committee of Ministers for a period of five years.
The Presidency of the Committee of Ministers is held for a period of six months, rotating among the representatives of the member states in English alphabetical order.

This presidency is transferred from one member state to another in mid-May and mid-November, on a date set by the Committee based on a joint proposal from the incoming and outgoing presidents.
Since November 13, 2024 (until May 14, 2025), Luxembourg has held the presidency of this Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, following Lithuania and preceding Malta.

Dans le cadre du 77ème Salon Philatélique d'Automne organisé à Paris du 7 au 9 novembre 2024, la poste du Luxembourg a mis en circulation un timbre spécial (et une oblitération associée) consacré au 80ème anniversaire de la disparition d'Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
Ce timbre (tarif international - 1,40€, prix de vente : 1,80€, tirage inconnu) est plus précisément un timbre conçu par le service "meng.post.lu" de la poste luxembourgeoise permettant de personnaliser timbres et cartes postales.
Ce timbre, conçu par l'illustrateur Frédéric Thiry, a été utilisé sur la lettre ci-dessous avec le TAD spécial associé mis en circulation pendant les 3 jours de ce Salon parisien. Merci beaucoup Maxim !  
Spécialiste du collage, Frédéric Thiry a intégré des touches de papier vieilli à son œuvre, tout en relevant le défi de rendre chaque détail lisible à petite échelle.

A collage specialist, Frédéric Thiry incorporated touches of aged paper into his work, while taking on the challenge of making every detail legible on a small scale.

Pionnier de l'aviation, héros de l'Aéropostale, écrivain récompensé par de prestigieux prix littéraires, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944), né à Lyon, ne se réduit pas au "Petit Prince" (1943), émouvant conte pour enfants qu'il a conçu et illustré lui-même durant son exil aux États-Unis durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
Son métier nourrit son écriture, et les deux lui valent la Légion d’honneur. Ses romans "Courrier Sud" (1929), "Vol de nuit" (1931, prix Femina) et "Terre des hommes" (1939, Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française), connaissent un succès mondial.
Ayant réintégré les forces françaises libres, Saint Exupéry est abattu en mission le 31 juillet 1944. Le 25 mai 2000, son avion est retrouvé au large de Marseille et formellement identifié en 2003.
Aviation pioneer, hero of the Aéropostale, and writer awarded prestigious literary prizes, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944), born in Lyon, is not limited to "The Little Prince" (1943), a moving children's story he conceived and illustrated himself during his exile in the United States during World War II.
His work nourished his writing, and both earned him the Legion of Honor. His novels "Courrier Sud" (1929), "Night Flight" (1931, Prix Femina), and "Terre des hommes" (1939, Grand Prix de l'Académie française) were a worldwide success.
Having rejoined the Free French Forces, Saint-Exupéry was shot down during a mission on July 31, 1944. On May 25, 2000, his plane was found off the coast of Marseille and formally identified in 2003. 

"Christmas 2024 - American St. Nick" stamp on cover from Luxembourg

Timbre "Noël 2024 - American St. Nick" sur lettre du Luxembourg

Le 12 novembre 2024, la poste du Luxembourg a mis en circulation, comme de coutume, sa série "Noël 2024" (2 timbres), évoquant un événement émouvant qui s'est produit en décembre 1944 à Wiltz, une ville située dans le nord du Luxembourg.
Peu après le retrait des troupes allemandes après 4 années d'occupation, c'est un triste Noël qui s'annonçait pour les habitants de cette ville profondément marquée par la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Consciente de la situation, la 28ème division d'infanterie de l'armée américaine, en convalescence à Wiltz après de durs combats, a souhaité apporter un peu de joie à la population, et en particulier aux enfants.
Après avoir entendu parler du "Kleeschen" (Saint-Nicolas en luxembourgeois), le caporal Harry Stutz a eu l'idée d'organiser une fête avant Noël pour les enfants. Son camarade, le caporal Richard Brookins, s'est ainsi déguisé en "American St. Nick", dans un costume improvisé. 
On November 12, 2024, the Luxembourg Post put into circulation, as usual, its "Christmas 2024" series (2 stamps), commemorating a touching event that took place in December 1944 in Wiltz, a town in northern Luxembourg.
Shortly after the German troops withdrew after four years of occupation, the inhabitants of the town, which had been scarred by the Second World War, were faced with a sad Christmas. The 28th Infantry Division of the US Army, which was recovering after heavy fighting in Wiltz, recognised the bleak situation and wanted to bring some joy to the people, especially the children.
Corporal Harry Stutz learned about Luxembourg's "Kleeschen" (St. Nicholas) and decided to organise a pre-Christmas celebration for the children. His comrade, Corporal Richard Brookins, dressed up as "American St. Nick" in an improvised costume.

Il a parcouru les rues de Wiltz jusqu'au château dans une jeep de l'armée, accompagné de deux jeunes filles déguisées en anges. Les enfants ont reçu des friandises préparées avec les rations des soldats et ont pu faire part de leurs souhaits de Noël à Saint-Nicolas.
Malheureusement, quelques jours plus tard, Wiltz fût durement touchée lors de la bataille des Ardennes et de nombreux habitants ont perdu la vie. Mais le souvenir de cette Saint-Nicolas si particulière est resté bien vivant. Après la guerre, Wiltz a été reconstruite et l'Œuvre Saint-Nicolas, fondée en 1949 par des commerçants de Wiltz, honore le geste des soldats américains en perpétuant chaque année la tradition de cet "American St. Nick". 
Un des 2 timbres de cette série (1,40€ + 0,15€), conçue par Marco Zorzi et imprimée en France par Cartor Security Printing, a été utilisée sur la lettre ci-dessus, avec TAD spécial "Joyeux Noël" (Arbre de Noël) du 19 décembre 2024 de la ville de Luxembourg. Merci beaucoup Maxim ! 
He drove through the streets of Wiltz to the castle in an army jeep, accompanied by two girls in angel costumes. The children received sweets made from the soldiers' rations and were allowed to share their Christmas wishes with St. Nicholas.
Unfortunately, Wiltz was badly hit only days later in the Battle of the Bulge, and many residents lost their lives. However, the memory of that special St. Nicholas Day remained vivid. After the war, Wiltz was rebuilt, and the "Œuvre Saint-Nicolas", founded by local businesspeople in 1949, continues to honour the American soldiers' gesture by carrying on the American St. Nick tradition each year. 
One of the two stamps of this series (€1.40 + €0.15), designed by Marco Zorzi and printed in France by Cartor Security Printing, was used on the cover above, with special "Joyeux Noël" postmark (Christmas Tree) of December 19, 2024 from the city of Luxembourg. Thank you very much Maxim!

Le TAD Premier Jour du 12 novembre 2024 a été appliqué ici, représentant Saint-Nicolas lors de sa distribution de cadeaux aux enfants, avec un tour du château de Wiltz (également représenté sur le timbre) dans le fond. 
Ce château, construit au 13ème siècle, remanié dans un style Renaissance au 17ème siècle, abrite aujourd'hui le Musée national d'Art brassicole et le Musée de la bataille des Ardennes, ainsi qu'un office de tourisme.

The First Day cancellation of November 12, 2024 has been applied here, depicting Saint Nicholas distributing gifts to children, with a tour of Wiltz Castle (also depicted on the stamp) in the background.
This castle, built in the 13th century and remodelled in a Renaissance style in the 17th century, now houses the National Museum of Brewing Art and the Museum of the Battle of the Bulge, as well as a tourist office.

En 2024, l'Union Postale Universelle (UPU) célèbrait son 150ème anniversaire. Le 9 octobre 1874, 22 pays (dont le Luxembourg) se sont réunis pour signer le Traité de Berne, créant ainsi l'Union générale des postes, qui deviendra ensuite l'Union Postale Universelle (à partir de 1878).
150 ans plus tard, l'UPU unit à présent les réseaux postaux de 192 pays membres. Elle a ainsi concrétisé la vision de ses fondateurs, qui consistait à établir un territoire postal unique pour servir toutes les populations, où qu'elles se trouvent.
Avec le thème de ce 150ème anniversaire, "150 ans d'engagement pour la communication et le développement des peuples à travers le monde", l'UPU célèbre cette réalisation et renforce son engagement à servir les populations pour les années et siècles à venir.
Tout au long de cette année 2024, l'UPU a organisé une série d'événements et des campagnes visant à rendre hommage à la richesse de son passé, à la pertinence de son présent et aux promesses de son avenir, en utilisant en particulier le hashtag #UPU150 sur les réseaux sociaux.
In 2024, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) celebrated its 150th anniversary. On October 9, 1874, 22 countries (including Luxembourg) gathered to sign the Treaty of Bern, creating the General Postal Union, which would later become known as the Universal Postal Union (from 1878).
150 years later, the UPU now unites the postal networks of 192 member countries, having realized its founders' vision of establishing a single postal territory to serve people everywhere.
The UPU's theme for its 150th year, "150 years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nations", recognizes this accomplishment, and reinforces its commitment to serve peoples for the decades and centuries to come.
Throughout 2024, the UPU organized a series of events and campaigns in celebration of its rich past, dedicated present and promising future, in particular using the hashtag #UPU150 on social media.

On October 10, 2024, the Luxembourg Post put into circulation a stamp dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the UPU.

Pour rappel, la Small European Postal Administration Cooperation (SEPAC) est une association de petites administrations postales européennes (12 actuellement), créée en 1999, afin de discuter de diverses questions philatéliques et postales spécifiques à ces petites structures.
Depuis 2007 (thème des paysages), des timbres sur un thème commun sont émis par certains membres (9 en 2024 a priori, tous sauf l'île de Man, Guernesey et la Cité du Vatican) et une élection du plus beau timbre Sepac est organisée depuis 2010.
Le Grand-Duché de Luxembourg participe à ces émissions Sepac depuis 2009 et a émis, le 10 septembre 2024, son 14ème timbre Sepac, illustrant le thème des "Principales attractions touristiques".

As a reminder, the Small European Postal Administration Cooperation (SEPAC) is an association of small European postal administrations (12 currently), created in 1999, in order to discuss various philatelic and postal issues specific to these small structures.
Since 2007 (theme : landscapes), stamps having a common theme are issued by some members (9 in 2024 a priori, all except the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Vatican City) and an election for the most beautiful Sepac stamp has been organized for the first time in 2010.
The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has been participating in these Sepac issues since 2009 and issued, on September 10, 2024, its 14th Sepac stamp, illustrating the theme of "Main tourist attractions".

Pfaffenthal ("Pafendall" en luxembourgeois) est l'un des 24 quartiers de Luxembourg-ville, situé dans la vallée de l'Alzette. Il s'étend approximativement du pont grande-duchesse Charlotte (représenté dans le fond sur ce timbre) jusqu'au viaduc ferroviaire, juste au nord-est de la Ville Haute.
Ce quartier, situé 60 mètres sous la Ville Haute, fait partie de la zone tampon du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO depuis 1994. Il s'agit du plus ancien quartier de Luxembourg-ville, offrant une vue spectaculaire sur une partie des anciennes fortifications et la vieille ville.Depuis 2016, un ascenseur panoramique (représenté à gauche sur le timbre) relie le Pfaffenthal au parc Fondation Pescatore dans la Ville Haute.
Une sculpture de l'artiste Menny Olinger, "De midde Waasserdréier", inaugurée en 2024 dans ce quartier parfois surnommé "Petite Venise", rappelle qu'à l'époque où la Ville Haute ne disposait pas d'eau courante ni de puits, les habitants du quartier montaient des seaux sur leurs épaules aux riches bourgeois. 
Ce monument représente un jeune porteur d'eau, fatigué et se reposant, et une petite fille lui apportant des roses.
Pfaffenthal ("Pafendall" in Luxembourgish) is one of the 24 districts of the city of Luxembourg, located in the Alzette Valley. It extends approximately from the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge (shown in the background on this stamp) to the railway viaduct, just northeast of the Ville Haute (Upper Town).
This district, located 60 metres below the Ville Haute, has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage buffer zone since 1994. It is the oldest district of Luxembourg City, offering a spectacular view of part of the old fortifications and the old town.
Since 2016, a panoramic elevator (shown on the left on the stamp) has connected Pfaffenthal to the Fondation Pescatore park in the Ville Haute.
A sculpture by artist Menny Olinger, "De midde Waasserdréier", inaugurated in 2024 in this district sometimes nicknamed "Little Venice", recalls that at the time when the Upper Town did not have running water or wells, the inhabitants of the district carried buckets on their shoulders to the wealthy bourgeois.
This monument represents a young water carrier, tired and resting, and a little girl bringing him roses.

A l'occasion de cette visite qui avait pour thème "Pour servir", la poste du Luxembourg a mis en circulation, le 10 septembre 2024, un bloc-feuillet spécial (1,75€, conception : Binsfeld, tirage : 30000), utilisé sur la lettre ci-dessous envoyée le 27 septembre 2024 (à noter cette mention erronée de l'année "23" au lieu de "24" sur le TAD) depuis Esch-sur-Alzette. Before a visit to Belgium, Pope Francis spent the day of September 26, 2024 in Luxembourg, at the invitation of Grand Duke Henri, almost 40 years after the visit of Pope John Paul II in May 1985.

Lors de cette visite au Luxembourg, le pape François a rencontré les autorités politiques du pays, a effectué un parcours dans la capitale dans sa papamobile puis a échangé avec la communauté catholique à la cathédrale Notre-Dame. Il a également mis à l'honneur des congrégations religieuses qui œuvrent auprès des malades et des réfugiés accueillis au Luxembourg.

Colorful characters are also depicted in the foreground, symbolizing the diversity of the country, with its long Christian tradition, but where 40% of the population is of foreign nationality. The Luxembourg flag finally flies in a blue sky where a few doves of peace are flying.
During this visit to Luxembourg, Pope Francis met with the country's political authorities, toured the capital in his popemobile and then spoke with the Catholic community at Notre-Dame Cathedral. He also honored religious congregations that work with the sick and refugees welcomed in Luxembourg. 

"100 years of diplomatic relations" joint s/s with Hungary, on cover from Luxembourg

Bloc-feuillet "100 ans de relations diplomatiques", commun avec la Hongrie, sur lettre du Luxembourg 

Le 12 mars 2024, les administrations postales de Hongrie et du Luxembourg ont mis en circulation un bloc-feuillet commun composé de 2 timbres, à l'occasion du 100ème anniversaire de l'établissement de relations diplomatiques entre les 2 pays.
Ce bloc-feuillet reproduit deux tableaux du peintre académique hongrois Mihály Munkácsy (1844-1900), l'un représentant la Hongrie, "Dusty Country Road II" (après 1874, Magyar Nemzeti Galéria, Budapest), et l'autre le Luxembourg, "Grazing cattle herd at red sunset" (1882), en reconnaissance du fait que l'artiste de renommée mondiale est l'un des liens culturels les plus étroits entre les deux pays.
L'épouse de Munkácsy était Cécile Papier, originaire du Luxembourg, avec qui il vivait près de la frontière belge au Château de Colpach au Luxembourg. De nombreuses œuvres de ce peintre hongrois, à juste titre et très apprécié, y ont été peintes.

On March 12, 2024, the postal administrations of Hungary and Luxembourg put into circulation a joint souvenir sheet composed of two stamps, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the 2 countries.
This souvenir sheet reproduces two paintings by Hungarian academic painter Mihály Munkácsy (1844-1900), one representing Hungary, "Dusty Country Road II" (after 1874, Magyar Nemzeti Galéria, Budapest), and the other one Luxembourg, " Grazing cattle herd at red sunset" (1882), in recognition of the fact that the world-famous artist is one of the closest cultural ties between the two countries.
Munkácsy's wife was Cécile Papier, a Luxembourgian socialite, with whom he lived near the Belgian border at Château de Colpach in Luxembourg. Many works by this rightly and highly regarded Hungarian painter were painted there.

La diplomatie hongroise indépendante et moderne est née après la dissolution de la monarchie austro-hongroise en 1918 et la consolidation de la Hongrie après 1920.
Le comte Olivier Woracziczky, alors chef de l'ambassade à Bruxelles, a été nommé par le gouvernement hongrois comme chargé permanent d'affaires accrédité au Grand-Duché de Luxembourg le 9 février 1924. Cette date est ainsi considérée comme la date officielle du début des relations diplomatiques entre la Hongrie et le Luxembourg, marquant le début de l'étroite coopération entre les deux pays qui se poursuit aujourd'hui dans le cadre de l'Union européenne.
Grâce à l'ouverture du bureau luxembourgeois de l'ambassade de Hongrie à Bruxelles en 2014, la Hongrie a rétabli une représentation diplomatique permanente auprès du Grand-Duché.
Aujourd'hui, ces relations diplomatiques bilatérales sont encore renforcées par la présence en Hongrie d'importantes entreprises luxembourgeoises ou la coopération entre des villes de chaque pays.
La communauté hongroise au Luxembourg est constituée d'environ 2000 personnes qui vivent et travaillent de manière permanente, principalement dans les institutions financières et les institutions de l'Union européenne, la Cour de justice européenne et la Cour des comptes européenne basées à Luxembourg. 
Independent and modern Hungarian diplomacy emerged after the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy in 1918 and the consolidation of Hungary after 1920.
Count Olivier Woracziczky, then head of the embassy in Brussels, was appointed by the Hungarian government as permanent chargé d'affaires accredited to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on February 9, 1924. This date is thus considered the official starting date of diplomatic relations between Hungary and Luxembourg, marking the beginning of the close cooperation between the two countries which continues today within the framework of the European Union.
Thanks to the opening of the Luxembourg office of the Hungarian Embassy in Brussels in 2014, Hungary re-established a permanent diplomatic representation with the Grand Duchy.
Today, these bilateral diplomatic relations are further strengthened by the presence in Hungary of important Luxembourg companies or cooperation between cities from each country.
The Hungarian community in Luxembourg consists of around 2000 people who live and work permanently, mainly in financial institutions and institutions of the European Union, the European Court of Justice and the European Court of Auditors based in Luxembourg.

 

EUROPA 2024 (Underwater Fauna and Flora) stamp set on cover from Luxembourg

Pour rappel, le thème choisi par l'association PostEurop pour les timbres EUROPA émis en 2024, la faune et flore subaquatiques, met en lumière la biodiversité des eaux européennes qui souffrent de la surpêche, de la pollution et du changement climatique et qui doivent être protégées pour les générations futures.
En commémoration du 40ème anniversaire de la série culturelle 1984 (4 timbres) consacrée aux fossiles du pays, la poste luxembourgeoise a choisi de réinterpréter ce thème à travers deux timbres émis le 14 mai 2024, consacrés à des reptiles marins de l'époque des dinosaures, appartenant en particulier à l'ordre fossile des ichtyosaures ("L 50g" - 1€) et des plésiosaures ("E 50g" - 1,40€).
Conçus à partir d'œuvres de l'artiste Jean-Marie Poissenot, en collaboration avec le Musée national d'histoire naturelle, ces 2 timbres autocollants (imprimés en France par Cartor) ont été utilisés sur la lettre ci-dessous envoyée le 27 septembre 2024 depuis Esch-sur-Alzette. As a reminder, the theme chosen by the PostEurop association for the EUROPA stamps issued in 2024, underwater fauna and flora, highlights the biodiversity of European waters which suffer from overfishing, pollution and climate change and which must be protected for future generations.
In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the 1984 cultural series (4 stamps) dedicated to the country's fossils, the Luxembourg Post has chosen to reinterpret this theme through two stamps issued on May 14, 2024, dedicated to marine reptiles from the time of the dinosaurs, belonging in particular to the fossil order of ichthyosauria ("L 50g" - €1.00) and plesiosauria ("E 50g" - €1.40).
Designed from works by the artist Jean-Marie Poissenot, in collaboration with the National Museum of Natural History, these two self-adhesive stamps (printed in France by Cartor) have been used on the cover below sent on September 27, 2024 from Esch-sur-Alzette. Thank you very much Dimitri!

 

Cette série rappelle que des ossements d'espèces de dinosaures ont déjà été découverts à plusieurs reprises sur le territoire actuel du Luxembourg, en particulier dans les années 1990 (fossile de plésiosaure à Sanem) et en 2020 (fossile d'une sous-espèce d'ichtyosaure appelée temnodontosaurus, dans le quartier de la Cloche d'Or à Luxembourg, découvert par le paléontologue Ben Thuy).
S'il n'est pas rare de découvrir des fossiles dans le sol du Luxembourg, cette découverte en 2020 était importante dans le monde de la paléontologie. Il n'existe en effet à ce jour qu'un seul autre fossile de temnodontosaurus dans le monde, découvert en Allemagne dans les années 1940.
Ces espèces marines vivaient il y a plusieurs millions d'années lorsque la moitié sud du Luxembourg était recouverte par la mer.
This series recalls that bones of dinosaur species have already been discovered several times on the current territory of Luxembourg, in particular in the 1990s (plesiosauria fossil in Sanem) and in 2020 (fossil of a subspecies of ichthyosauria called temnodontosaurus, in the Cloche d'Or district of Luxembourg, discovered by paleontologist Ben Thuy).
While it is not uncommon to discover fossils in the soil of Luxembourg, this discovery in 2020 was important in the world of paleontology. In fact, to date there is only one other temnodontosaurus fossil in the world, discovered in Germany in the 1940s.
These marine species lived several million years ago when the southern half of Luxembourg was covered by the sea. 

 

"Olympic Games Paris 2024 - Breakdancing" stamp on FDC from Luxembourg

Lors des jeux olympiques de Paris 2024 (33ème olympiade) organisés du 26 juillet au 11 août 2024, le Luxembourg participera pour la 26ème fois de son histoire à des jeux olympiques d'été (toutes les éditions depuis 1900 sauf 1904, 1908 et 1932).
A date, malgré sa population limitée, le Luxembourg a remporté 3 médailles olympiques, 2 en or (Michel Théato en marathon en 1900, Josy Barthel en 1500m en 1952) et 1 en argent (Joseph Alzin en haltérophilie en 1920).
A Paris, la délégation luxembourgeoise sera composée d'un moins 7 athlètes engagés dans 4 sports (athlétisme, cyclisme, équitation et triathlon).

Le 14 mai 2024, la poste luxembourgeoise a mis en circulation un timbre (1,40€), imprimé (en Belgique par Bpost Stamps Factory) en feuillet de 10 timbres, conçu par l'artiste Sandra Lieners (née en 1990) qui utilise régulièrement le flou dans sa peinture.
C'est ce qu'elle a appliqué pour concevoir ce timbre, présent sur le FDC officiel ci-dessus avec TAD (Tour Eiffel et lions figurant sur le drapeau civil du pays) de Luxembourg.
Ce timbre est consacré à l'une des nouvelles disciplines sportives au programme des jeux olympiques de Paris 2024, le breakdance, alliant sport et danse urbaine.
Les 9 et 10 août 2024, 16 B-Boys et 16 B-Girls s'affronteront en un contre un sur la place de la Concorde, dans des prestations effectuées en alternance, durant chacune 60 secondes. 
L'emblème de l'équipe olympique luxembourgeoise (tête de lion et anneaux olympiques) figure en bas à gauche sur ce timbre.
On May 14, 2024, the Luxembourg Post put into circulation a stamp (€1.40), printed (in Belgium by Bpost Stamps Factory) in sheetlet of 10 stamps, designed by the artist Sandra Lieners (born in 1990) who uses regularly the blur in her painting.
This is what she applied to design this stamp, present on the official FDC above with cancellations (Eiffel Tower and lions appearing on the civil flag of the country) from Luxembourg.
This stamp is dedicated to one of the new sporting disciplines on the program for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, breakdancing, combining sport and urban dance.
On August 9 and 10, 2024, 16 B-Boys and 16 B-Girls will compete one-on-one on the Place de la Concorde, in performances alternately, each lasting 60 seconds.
