"125 Years of Diplomatic Relations with Mexico" souvenir sheet on FDC from Uruguay

Official diplomatic ties between Uruguay and Mexico date back to March 26, 1901, when Uruguayan diplomat Juan Cuestas presented his credentials to the Mexican president.
125 years after this historic event, the two countries commemorated their bilateral relations at a ceremony at the Palacio Santos, the headquarters of the Uruguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Montevideo, highlighting a shared history of cooperation, dialogue, and cultural affinities.
On that same day, March 26, 2026, the Uruguayan postal administration unilaterally issued an interesting souvenir sheet dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uruguay and Mexico.
This souvenir sheet (print run: 2,500), designed by Alvaro Rodríguez, was used on the official First Day Cover below, sent on March 30, 2026, from Sarandi Grande. Thank you so much, Jorge!
This issue reminds us that the two countries are united by a shared Latin American identity, and that they share values such as the defense of democracy, human dignity, and the conviction that Latin America can and must build its own destiny.

Women are celebrated on this souvenir sheet, through the reproduced works (Indigenous peoples of both countries) and the artists: the portrait of a Charrúa woman (37 UYU) by Mary Porto Casas and the portrait of a Maya woman (95 UYU) by Victoria Guardia.
To mark International Women's Day, the Mexican Embassy in Uruguay organized an exhibition entitled "Ancestors", by Uruguayan visual artist Victoria Guardia (born in 1971). This exhibition presented, for the first time, three large-format works inspired by the stories of Indigenous Mexican women. Through painting and drawing, the artist offered a dialogue between memory, identity, and transformation.
María Esther "Mary" Porto Casas (born in 1960) is an Urugayan multidisciplinary artist whose work centres on the experience of Black women and the culture of Afro-Uruguayans. Using a decolonial approach, her artworks address the intersection of racism and sexism, and the invisibility of Black people. She has been actively involved in Afro-Uruguayan activist groups since the 1980s, as a coordinator, educator and public speaker.

Mexico and Bulgaria established diplomatic relations on January 6, 1938, the date on which the Treaty of friendship signed in October 1936 came into force. Due to World War II, diplomatic relations were suspended in 1941, but were reestablished on July 11, 1974. Since then, closer relations have developed between the two countries.
The two countries have signed several bilateral agreements, such as a Tourism Cooperation Agreement (1979), an Agreement on a Convention on Consular Relations (1984), a Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreement (1994), and a Cultural and Educational Cooperation Agreement (1994).
Currently, in terms of diplomatic missions, Bulgaria has its embassy in Mexico City, and Mexico is accredited to Bulgaria from its embassy in Budapest, Hungary, and maintains an honorary consulate in Sofia.

On the occasion of the celebration of 175 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Guatemala, the postal administrations of the two countries put into circulation, on September 18, 2023, a beautiful joint series (2 stamps) reflecting these relations as well as the historical and cultural richness that unites them since pre-Columbian times.
Mexico and Guatemala are neighboring countries that share a common border in Central America of approximately 958 kilometers long. Diplomatic relations officially date back to 1848 and currently the two countries are committed to strengthening cooperation, which translates into greater development, prosperity and security.
The Mexican version of this joint set (7.50 MXN for each stamp, design: Vivek Luis Martínez Avín, print run: 50,000 each) is present on the official FDC (print run: 1,000) below. Thank you very much Cecy!

The first stamp is dedicated to the Pyramid of the Sun, the largest building in Teotihuacán, "The City of the Gods" in Mexico, one of the largest in Mesoamerica. It measures 225 m on each side and reaches approximately 65 m in height. Its construction began during the Tzacualli period (1-150 AD), when Teotihuacán began to develop as the main city of Mesoamerica. It is inspired by the myth of the Five Suns of Mesoamerican cosmogony: 260 original stages, 52 of which correspond to each sun (or era).
The other stamp represents the Temple of the Great Jaguar, part of the site of Tikal in Guatemala, one of the largest Mayan cities of the Late Classic-Mayan period. It is a funerary and ceremonial temple built between 734 and 750, which became the main construction of Tikal.
The pyramid is 47 meters high, with 9 terraces or platforms and a staircase that goes from the base to the top. The temple was used for various ritual ceremonies and was considered the gateway to the underworld.
The two sites of Teotihuacán and Tikal are inscribed by UNESCO on the list of World Heritage of Humanity.
The mythological figure of the feathered serpent, illustrated on the two stamps, has been shared between Mexico and Guatemala since pre-Columbian times, recognized as a divinity that represents the power of the wind, the force of water and the creation of life.

"Gabriela Mistral (1889-1957)" joint stamp with Chile, on FDC from Mexico

On October 22 and October 25, 2022, the two postal administrations of Mexico and Chile respectively put into circulation a joint stamp dedicated to Gabriela Mistral (1889-1957), Chilean poetess, Nobel Prize in Literature in 1945, having contributed so much to Hispanic letters and considered as one of the main references of universal feminine poetry.
From a modernist tendency in her beginnings, her poetry drifts towards a personal style, with a familiar and simple language, a great musicality and a symbolism which joins the folk tradition.
Her most recurring themes are suffering, religion and political ideas.
Originally a teacher and rural educator, Gabriela Mistral is considered as one of the most important poets of the 20th century.
Children are the protagonists of most of her compositions. Her job as a teacher made her very close to the little ones and this is perhaps the best known and most admired aspect of her work.

Merci beaucoup Cecy !
But Gabriela Mistral has analyzed the most diverse topics, such as the status of women in Latin America, indigenous peoples, the education of American peoples or the need to raise the dignity and social status of children on the continent to achieve the equality of chances.
She is the first female poet to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1945.
This joint stamp was designed through the eyes of Roberto Montenegro (1887-1968), pioneer of contemporary Mexican art, and his mural "Characters of History: Poetry, Portrait of Characters or Christian Ritual, Gabriela Mistral, Berta Singerman" executed in 1923 in the Secretariat of Public Education in Mexico City.

The Mexican version of this joint stamp (11.50 pesos, print run: 50,000, design: Vivek Luis Martínez Avín) is present on this official FDC (print run: 1,000) with red postmark from the city of Hermosillo. Thank you so much Cecy!

Berta Singerman declared "I returned the poetry to the people. I removed the poetry from the books, to which only certain minorities had access".
Berta Singerman is depicted on the left, with another standing woman who, with a calm gaze, holds an open book in her hands. The work is completed by a case of flowers in which two birds are resting.

The Argentinian version of this joint stamp (150 pesos, print run: 10,000) was used in 4 copies on this cover sent on May 23, 2023 from Buenos Aires. Thank you very much Gabriel!
Gabriel completed his postage with 3 ordinary Postal Unit ("UP") stamps issued in 2019 and 2022, dedicated to some of the 37 national parks listed in the country, El Leoncito National Park (created in 2022, province of San Juan, 40 pesos), Monte León National Park (created in 2004, province of Santa Cruz, 300 pesos) and Iberá National Park (created in 2018, province of Corrientes, 500 pesos) here.

"30th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations" joint stamp with Vatican City, on FDC from Mexico

On September 21, 1992, a joint note from the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs of Mexico and the Secretariat of State of the Holy See announced the reconciliation that had taken place between the two countries, made possible by the awareness of the central and founding role that the religious dimension carries in the life of the Mexican people...
In scattered order, November 16, 2022 and December 12, 2022, the postal administrations of the Vatican City and Mexico put into circulation a joint stamp dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the resumption of these diplomatic relations between the two countries ("30 Aniversario de relaciones Diplomáticas entre México y la Santa Sede").

The Mexican version of this stamp (13.50 pesos, print run: 100,000), designed by Patrizio Daniele and printed in sheet of 50 stamps, is present on this official FDC (print run: 900) with red postmark (coats of arms) from the city of Hermosillo. Thank you so much Cecy!
This stamp depicts the national coats of arms of the two states united in this important project with the respective national flag's colors appearing in the background.

Catholicism was introduced in Mexico in the early 16th century by the Spanish Empire. The majority of Mexicans practice the Catholic faith, however, since the adoption of the current Constitution in 1917, Mexico has been a secular nation.
The Holy See and Mexico severed diplomatic relations after Mexican President Benito Juárez confiscated church property between 1856 and 1861. In 1926, after several years of Mexican Revolution and insecurity, President Plutarco Elías Calles, leader of the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party, enacted a law which eradicated all the personal property of the churches, closed churches that were not registered with the State, and prohibited clerics from holding public office.
In 1974, Mexican President Luis Echeverría paid a visit to the Holy See, becoming the first Mexican head of state to do so. In 1979, Pope John Paul II became the first pope to visit Mexico.
In 1992, after more than 130 years, the Mexican government therefore reestablished formal diplomatic relations with the Holy See.

"200 years of diplomatic relations" joint stamp set with Colombia, on FDC from Mexico

Historically, Mexico and Colombia have maintained a close political, economic, social and cultural relationship that has grown stronger and consolidated over the years.
This can be highlighted through some historical acts between the two countries: after the proclamation of the independence of Mexico, Colombia was the first country to recognize it. Thus, on October 10, 1821, Simón Bolívar, as President of Colombia, appointed Miguel Santa María as the first Colombian representative in Mexico, thus officially inaugurating diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Subsequently, on October 3, 1823, Mexico and Colombia signed the Treaty of Union, League and Perpetual Confederation, which meant that it was Mexico's first international agreement as an independent nation.

More recently, in 2015, the bilateral relationship acquired the "strategic" level, with the aim of demonstrating the importance that the two countries attach to common issues. Added to this is Mexico's participation in the group of Friends of Colombia, its work to promote peace agreements and the participation of Mexican troops in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
On December 20, 2021 (January 25, 2022 in Colombia), the postal administrations of Mexico and Colombia put into circulation a joint series (2 se-tenant stamps) dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Many thanks Cecy for sending this official FDC (print run: 800) concerning the Mexican version of this joint set (13.50 pesos, print run: 50,000 for each stamp), designed by Sergio Barranca Rábago, with postmark from Hermosillo.
The official logo of this 200th anniversary, the number "200" on which the flags of the two countries intertwine as well as a stylized butterfly appear on this stamp.
Mexico is known for the impressive migration of the Monarch butterfly and Colombia is the country where the most species of butterflies live (20% of the species listed in the world).

"70 years of diplomatic relations" joint stamp set with Israel, on FDC from Mexico

The ties that unite the peoples of Mexico and Israel are numerous and date back mainly to the end of the 19th century, with the arrival of immigrants of Jewish origin, who left their mark on Mexican society.
After the founding of the State of Israel in 1948, diplomatic relations between the two countries were formalized on July 1, 1952.
Over the years, there have been many collaborations in the political, economic and cultural fields, reflecting the mutual friendship between the two peoples. The Mexican Jewish community (between 40,000 and 50,000 people) has always served as a bridge in relations between the two countries.
In 2000, Israel and Mexico signed a free trade agreement which led to a dramatic increase in trade.
Israel has always been at the side of the Mexican population during tragedies (earthquakes) or by offering humanitarian aid more recently during the Covid-19 pandemic.

On September 13, 2022, the postal administrations of Mexico and Israel put into circulation a joint stamp dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of these diplomatic relations between the 2 countries.
The Mexican Post has actually issued two se-tenant stamps (7.50 pesos, print run: 50,000 each), designed by Rinat Gilboa and Nancy Torres, present on the official FDC above (print run: 900) with red cancellation from Hermosillo. Thank you very much Cecy!
The joint stamp between the two countries is the one at the top above (the other stamp with the number "70" is a "tab" for the Israeli Post), representing the national birds of the two countries, the Eurasian hoopoe (Upupa epops) and the Mexican gold eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), present on the coat of arms of the country. In pre-Hispanic times, this eagle was an emblem of strength and courage.
A Prickly Pear cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica) and a columnar cactus (Stenocereus dumortieri), symbol of the Mexican state of Queretaro, are also depicted on this stamp.
A fun fact finally linking the two countries, the only participation of the Israeli football team in a World Cup took place in 1970 in Mexico...

"100th anniversary of the Mexican Embassy" stamp on cover from Italy

On July 28, 2022, the Italian Post put into circulation a stamp ("B zone 2 50g" rate - €3.90 for a shipment up to 50g to countries in Africa, America and Asia - print run: 500,000) dedicated at the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Embassy in Italy.
The first contact between Italy and Mexico dates back to 1869, just before the end of Italian unification in 1870, when Italy expressed its desire to open a consulate in Mexico. An Italian consulate was opened in Mexico in December 1872, however, diplomatic relations between the two nations were not established until December 15, 1874.
In 1875, Mexico opened a diplomatic office in Rome. During World War I, Mexico remained neutral because it was involved in its own revolution during the same period and closed its diplomatic office in Rome.
In 1922, Mexico reopened its diplomatic office in Rome, in a new embassy depicted on this stamp.

This stamp, designed by Tiziana Trinca, depicting the Art Nouveau building, headquarters of the Mexican Embassy in Rome, was used on this cover sent on October 19, 2022 from the philatelic space of the Rome 1 post office. Thank you very much Liisa!
To note that the Mexican Post also put into circulation, on June 27, 2022, a stamp (we see the same building but curiously without the Mexican flag ...) on the same theme.
This building was originally intended to be sold to a Roman family and was later adapted as a diplomatic headquarters and residence for the Mexican delegation.
On the occasion of the celebrations of this 100th anniversary, the "Salon dorado" of the Mexican Embassy hosted an expected "bilateral" ceremony for the return of cultural heritage of historical value.
Italy has returned to Mexico 30 archaeological finds recovered from four different cities, recognized as authentic by the Mexican authorities. And Mexico has also returned to Italy 1,271 documents from the archives of Ettore Ferrari (1845-1929), Italian sculptor and politician, discovered by chance in Mexico.

"50 years of diplomatic relations" joint stamp set with China, on cover from Mexico

The first contacts between Chinese and Mexicans date back to the early days of the Spanish colonial empire in the Americas.
In December 1899, Imperial China and Mexico officially established diplomatic relations after signing a treaty of friendship, trade and navigation. In 1904, Mexico opened its first diplomatic mission in Beijing and maintained a diplomatic mission in several cities where it was forced to move during various wars and instabilities, especially the Japanese invasion of China in 1941.
In 1942, Mexico reopened a diplomatic mission in the city of Chongqing and in 1943, diplomatic missions between the two nations were upgraded to embassies.
In 1971, Mexico decided to sever official diplomatic relations with the Republic of China (Taiwan) after the adoption of the resolution 2758 recognizing the People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate representative of China at the United Nations. In February 1972, the People's Republic of China and Mexico established diplomatic relations.

On February 14, 2022, the postal administrations of China and Mexico put into circulation a nice series (2 stamps) on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of these diplomatic relations.
The Chinese version of this stamp set (1.20 yuan each, design: Ma Lihang) was used on this cover sent on the first day of issue from the city of Shenyang (Liaoning province). Thank you very much Wenbo!
Two monuments inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List have been featured on this series, the Dengfeng Astronomical Observatory (built in 1276, early Yuan Dynasty, to observe the movements of the sun and stars) and the Pyramid of Kukulcán, a pre-Columbian monument of the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá (Yucatán), a temple built by the Maya Itzá, in several stages, between 550 and 1300, in honor of Kukulcán, the feathered serpent deity.
These two stamps illustrate these monuments in the dark by combining the images with light effects, a silver ink for the "Dengfeng Observatory" stamp and a white fluorescence in the background, a golden ink for the "Pyramid of Kukulcán" stamp and a colorless orange fluorescence, which highlights the radiant effect of the sun in the background. In addition, both stamps are perforated on both sides with special star and sun-shaped cutouts.

"75 years of diplomatic relations" joint set with Lebanon on cover from Mexico

On September 30, 2020, an official ceremony took place at the Mexican Embassy in Lebanon, in the presence of the Ambassador and the President of LibanPost, to unveil a nice joint series (2 stamps) dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the establishment. diplomatic relations between Mexico and Lebanon.
This series, released with the support of the Lebanese Center in Mexico City, is featuring major archaeological sites in each country: the Temple of Bacchus in Baalbek for Lebanon and a panoramic view of the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral, located next to the pre-Columbian "Templo Mayor" for Mexico.
This joint issue symbolizes the deep friendship between these 2 countries, having established diplomatic relations on June 12, 1945, 2 years after the independence of Lebanon.
Significant Lebanese immigration to Mexico took place between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century and although the Lebanese made up less than 5% of the total immigrant population in Mexico in the 1930s, they constituted half of the immigrant economic activity.

The Mexican version of this joint series (design: Nancy Torres López for the Mexican post and Myrna Kalfayan for the Lebanese post), composed of 2 se-tenant stamps (7 and 15 pesos, print run: 50,000 each), was used on this letter sent on May 19, 2021 from the city of Hermosillo (capital of the state of Sonora), located in northwestern Mexico. Thank you very much Cecy!
The Temple of Bacchus, one of the best preserved temples of the Greco-Roman world, is one of the main monuments of the ancient city of Baalbek (UNESCO World Heritage since 1984), located at the foot of the south-western slope of Anti-Lebanon, on the edge of the plain of the Bekaa, at an altitude of 1150 m. Its colossal constructions built over more than two centuries make it one of the most famous sanctuaries in the Roman world and a model of Roman architecture of the imperial period. Pilgrims flocked to the shrine to worship the three deities Jupiter, Venus and Mercury.
The Templo Mayor (the "Greater Temple"), located today in central Mexico City, was the name of the great step pyramid of Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztecs. After the Spanish conquest, in the 16th century, the Templo Mayor was destroyed and its exact location was forgotten until archaeological excavations unearthed its foundations in 1978.
To note the presence of the flags of the 2 countries in the lower part of these 2 stamps, including only mentions in Spanish for one stamp and only in Arabic for the other one.

A big thank you also Cecy for sending this official FDC (print run: 700) above concerning this same joint series, with postmark from Hermosillo.
The same buildings are featured on the envelope with a snake's head (Templo Mayor) on the left and a lion's head (gargoyle, Temple of Jupiter at Baalbek) on the right.
