Best Wishes from the Sovereign Prince of Lichtenberg 

Comme vous le savez peut-être, j'ai l'honneur d'être devenu, le 3 février 2013, citoyen de la Principauté de Lichtenberg !
En tant que citoyen, je dois fidélité au Prince souverain, Maximilian I, et à la Principauté de Lichtenberg.
J'ai eu la chance de recevoir la carte de bonne année ci-dessous dans laquelle le Prince me présente ses meilleurs voeux :-)
Le recto ci-dessous représente les armoiries de la Principauté avec la devise en latin de la maison princière "Pro Deo et Patria" ("Pour Dieu et la Patrie").
As you maybe know, I have the honor of being, since February 3, 2013, a citizen of the Principality of Lichtenberg !
As a citizen, my duty is loyalty to the Sovereign Prince, Maximilian I, and the Principality of Lichtenberg.
I was lucky to receive the New Year's Greetings card below including the Prince's best wishes :-)
The front below shows the coats of arms of the Principality with the motto (in Latin) of the princely house "Pro Deo et Patria" ("For God and Fatherland").

Pour rappel, cette Principauté de Lichtenberg a été fondée le 16 juillet 2010 avec à sa tête le prince souverain Maximilian (né en 1990) qui détient les pouvoirs exécutifs, législatifs et judiciaires.
Cette principauté, qui fonctionne un peu comme l'état de la Cité du Vatican, n'a toutefois pas officiellement de territoire (un peu comme l'Ordre de Malte à Rome) et n'est reconnu par aucun pays même si elle dispose de consulats en Grande-Bretagne, au Mexique ou en Belgique.
Mais l'originalité de cette principauté, non reconnue par l'UPU, est aussi qu'elle émet ses propres timbres depuis janvier 2012, qui sont utilisés au départ de la résidence du prince (dans le Michigan aux USA) ou des consulats.
As a reminder, this Principality of Lichtenberg was founded on July 16, 2010, headed by the sovereign prince Maximilian (born 1990) holding the executive, legislative and judicial power. This Principality, working a bit like the Vatican City State, has however no official territory (like the Order of Malta in Rome) and is not recognized by any country, even if it has some consulates in Great Britain, Mexico or Belgium. But the originality of this Principality, not recognized by the UPU, is also that it issues its own stamps since January 2012, which are used from the residence of the Prince (in Michigan, USA) or from the consulates.

Malheureusement, aucun timbre de la Principauté n'a été utilisé sur la lettre contenant cette carte ci-dessous, seule la vignette "Par Avion" faisant référence à la Poste de Lichtenberg...
Cette lettre, postée de la ville de Redford (Michigan) le 13 décembre 2013, a été affranchie avec un timbre émis par l'USPS le 28 janvier 2013.
Here is above the back of that same Greetings card including the signature of the Prince Maximilian :-) Unfortunately, none of the Principality's stamp was used on the cover containing this card below, only the "Air Mail" label referring to the Lichtenberg Post...
This letter, mailed from the city of Redford, Michigan on December 13, 2013, was franked with a stamp issued by the USPS on January 28, 2013.

Ce timbre autocollant rond, conçu à partir d'une oeuvre de Leonello Calvetti, est le premier timbre américain incluant le tarif permanent "Global Forever", valable pour des courriers internationaux (1ère classe) jusqu'à une once (environ 28g).
A noter que ce timbre peut également être utilisé pour un envoi jusqu'à 2 onces vers le Canada (la poste canadienne a également un tarif spécifique pour les envois de lettres aux USA).
Ce timbre a été conçu à partir d'images satellites montrant l'océan atlantique ainsi qu'une partie des continents américains, africains et européens.
That self-adhesive stamp, designed from a work by Leonello Calvetti, is the first U.S. stamp including the permanent "Global Forever" postal rate, valid for First-Class Mail International 1-ounce (about 28g) letters.
To Note that this stamp can also be used for sending 2-ounce letters to Canada (Canadian Post also having a special postal rate for sending letters to the USA).
That stamp was designed from satellite images showing the Atlantic Ocean as well as parts of the American, African and European continents.

Le 16 juillet 2010, la principauté de Lichtenberg a été officiellement fondée avec à sa tête le prince souverain Maximilian (né en 1990) qui détient les pouvoirs exécutifs, législatifs et judiciaires.

Une fois affranchis avec des timbres de Lichtenberg, ces courriers transitent alors par l'opérateur postal officiel du pays concerné, l'USPS par exemple pour cette lettre ci-dessus, où des timbres "officiels" du pays doivent être ajoutés (une vignette à 1,10$ sur cette lettre).

Les 2 timbres identiques à droite (1$) font partie de la série courante émise en 2013, composée de 6 valeurs, représentant le profil du jeune prince Maximilian.
Ces timbres, de bonne facture, sont conçus par l'artiste américain Jack Lupro, connu sous le nom de Johann, Comte de Lupro dans la principauté de Lichtenberg, et imprimés en Allemagne à Berlin.
A noter l'oblitération de la poste de Lichtenberg avec la mention "Pro Deo et Patria" qui évoque une partie de la devise "Pour Dieu, le Prince et la Patrie"...
Once franked with stamps from Lichtenberg, these letters then pass by the official postal operator of the concerned country, the USPS for example for this letter above, where some "official" stamps of the country must be added (a $ 1.10 ATM stamp on this cover).

The two identical stamps to the right ($ 1.00) are part of the definitve series issued in 2013, consisting of six values featuring the profile of the young Prince Maximilian.
These stamps, with a rather good quality, are designed by American artist Jack Lupro, known as Johann, Count of Lupro inside the Principality of Lichtenberg, and printed in Berlin, Germany.
To note the cancellation of the Lichtenberg Post with the mention "Pro Deo et Patria" evoking a part of the motto "For God, Prince and Fatherland"...

Je suppose que cette principauté de Lichtenberg tire son nom du territoire du même nom qui fut un état de la confédération allemande au début du 19ème siècle...
Je ne sais pas si le prince actuel (fils du prince héréditaire Friedrich Karl von Lichtenberg et de Marie Grafin von Langel), qui a signé la lettre ci-dessus jointe à cette enveloppe, est un descendant direct de la famille de Saxe-Cobourg et Gotha qui régnait sur cette principauté allemande ?
I suppose that this Principality of Lichtenberg takes its name from the territory of the same name that was a State of the German Confederation in the early 19th century...
I don't know if the current Prince (son of Hereditary Prince Friedrich Karl von Lichtenberg and Marie Grafin von Langel), who has signed the letter above that was inside this envelope, is a direct descendant of the family of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha that ruled this German Principality ?

J'ai également l'honneur d'être devenu, le 3 février 2013, citoyen de la principauté de Lichtenberg comme l'atteste le courrier reçu ci-dessus, signé par le Comte de Lupro !
J'espère que je pourrai toutefois garder ma nationalité française :-)
En tant que citoyen, je dois fidélité au Prince et à la principauté de Lichtenberg qui dispose d'un hymne ("This is My Fatherland"), d'un drapeau (noir et jaune) et d'armoiries.
I also have the honor of becoming, on February 3, 2013, a citizen of the Principality of Lichtenberg as evidenced by the letter received above, signed by the Count of Lupro !
I hope I'll however be able to keep my French nationality :-
As a citizen, my duty is loyalty to the Prince and the Principality of Lichtenberg, that has its national anthem ("This is My Fatherland"), flag (black and yellow) and coat of arms.
